Tucked a bit back from the main road, Death by Pizza is absolutely worth seeking out--especially if you love Detroit-style pizza. The pizza was phenomenal: perfectly crisp edges, a fluffy interior, and loaded with flavor in every bite. We went with a group of eight, and while the experience was still great, it's probably not ideal for larger parties--we ended up having to sit outside, which worked fine, but it's something to keep in mind if you're planning a bigger gathering. The standout was the pizza special with burrata (seriously, delicious). Everything we tried was excellent, and the quality easily justifies the hype. I was genuinely excited to try this place after seeing countless videos and hearing so many people rave about it. Unfortunately, after driving 40 minutes to get there, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. We arrived around 6:20 PM on Saturday, May 30th. The restaurant appeared to have roughly six open tables in a dining room of about fifteen tables. A party ahead of us was seated immediately (perhaps they had a reservation), but when we approached the host stand, we were told the wait would be 40 minutes. There was no visible crowd waiting, but okay, fair enough. The host mentioned we could be seated outside immediately. With storm clouds rolling in and the Florida humidity doing its thing, we politely declined and asked to be added to the waitlist. While we were putting our name down, the party that had just been seated inside got up and moved outside. Naturally, I asked if that changed anything. The answer was still "40 minutes." I'm not a mathematician, but that one was hard to follow. We stepped outside to find somewhere nearby to wait. There wasn't really anything in the plaza, and I noticed I never received a confirmation text. Since most restaurants using waitlists send some type of confirmation these days, I had a bad feeling and decided to go back in to verify my information. A different hostess was at the stand. I explained that I wanted to confirm my phone number because I hadn't received a text. She looked at the tablet and said, "I got you." Okay... but I wasn't asking if you had me. I was asking if you had my number. Again, I asked to confirm it. Again, I was told, "You're good." So my wife and I went back to our car and waited. Forty minutes came and went. Nothing. At around 7:15 PM, my wife noticed they were on OpenTable and made a reservation for 7:30 PM just in case. By 7:20 PM, I decided to walk back inside and check on our status. This is where things went completely off the rails. Both hosts looked up our name and, with surprising enthusiasm, informed us that they had canceled our place on the waitlist. Why? Because they had supposedly texted and called us with no response. I asked what number they contacted. Turns out the number was wrong by one digit. The same phone number I had specifically come back inside to verify. The same phone number that nobody actually verified. When I reminded the hostess that I had literally come back to confirm my number and was told, "I got you," she seemed completely unfazed. The other host then insisted that he had read the number back to me and that I had confirmed it. After telling my wife what he claimed, she told me that not only had he read the number back correctly, but she had repeated it correctly to him as well. So the information was clearly correct at that point, which makes it seem like the number was changed before the reservation was saved. At that point I asked to speak with a manager. To his credit, he came over quickly. Unfortunately, instead of immediately focusing on solving the problem, the initial response felt more focused on defending what had happened. What frustrated me most wasn't the mistake itself. Mistakes happen. It was the lack of ownership and the lack of a solution. After waiting nearly an hour because of an error made by the restaurant, I had to repeatedly ask what the plan was. Even then, the answer was essentially, "Maybe another 20 minutes. I'm not really sure." That's where the experience completely fell apart for me. A simple: "I'm sorry. Let me get you seated outside with a drink while we get an indoor table ready." Or: "We made a mistake. You're next for the first available table." Or even: "I understand why you're upset. Let me see what I can do to make this right." Any of those responses would have gone a long way. Instead, I was left feeling like I was inconveniencing everyone by expecting a solution to a problem they created. As we were leaving, the manager followed us outside and said he wanted to help if we were willing to work with him. The problem was that even then, there still wasn't an actual solution being offered. At that point, after nearly an hour of waiting, multiple missed opportunities to verify information, a canceled spot on the waitlist, and no clear path forward, we decided to leave. I have always been a huge fan of this place. I would drive alllll the way out east to get pizza regularly. When they added a location by me, I was SO excited! We went a bunch of times and everything was always stellar. Last week we had a less than stellar experience honestly. First of all, menu changes and found out the liquid gold wings are gone. Super disappointing. The spinach dip was cold, then nuked to the point of burning. Pizza was just ok. I get your rules, I respect your rules, but to charge me $6 for a side of mushrooms since you wouldn't put them on half, is outrageous. The waitress was nice enough but didn't seem like she wanted to be bothered with working. My kids are annoying, I get it, but you can still be nice to them. Chicago style deep dish pizza, we ordered one type with a salad which was good to satisfy a part of three! We were sat right away and waited on promptly. We started with the jumbo mozz sticks which was amazing. We the each did the slice combo which was 2 slices and a soda. Death by Pizza -- Or as I call it, Death by Many Succulent Flavors I went to Death by Pizza today with my fiancé and my father, and while I've been here before, this was the first time I felt compelled to put pen to paper (or thumbs to Yelp). This place is quickly becoming my favorite pizza spot in the entire Delray Beach area. They advertise Detroit-style pies, but honestly, these creations lean more toward artisan pizzas--carefully crafted, flavor-forward, and absolutely nothing like the standard New York-style slice. These are pizzas you experience, not just eat. My all-time favorite here is the Meatball Burrata: sweet, tender meatballs paired with ricotta, mozzarella, and a drizzle of hot honey. Every bite is a burst of layered flavors--rich, savory, creamy, sweet, spicy--all working together in a way that feels almost unfair to every other pizza I've ever had. Today I also tried their French Dip special, topped with shaved steak, mozzarella, pecorino, horseradish aioli, and accompanied by its own bowl of au jus for dipping. It was outstanding. The Meatball Burrata still holds the crown for me, but both were delicious. Service today was fantastic. Our waiter--appropriately named Mario--was attentive, friendly, and took our lighthearted Mario Bros. jokes like a true champ (he says he hears them a few times a day, but he still smiled through it). He kept drinks filled and checked in without hovering. The hostess was equally warm and welcoming, letting us choose our table. The atmosphere is cozy and unpretentious: music playing but not blasting, a relaxed vibe, and a quaint indoor space. There's also a very nice outdoor seating area; at 80 degrees and breezy today, it would've been perfect, but we opted for indoors. Death by Pizza isn't cheap--but it is absolutely worth it. This is pizza elevated, reinvented, and crafted with real thought. If you haven't tried it yet, you don't know what you're missing. It's not a dine-in place -- you order, pick it up, and take it home... or you end up eating it right on the sidewalk because you're too greedy to wait. I've been there. Death By Pizza made a splash with their downtown Delray "takeout-only" spot when they won the 2024 Palm Beach Post Reader's Choice Award for Best Pizza in Palm Beach County. So, when they opened this more traditional restaurant location people were psyched. They are good operators who clearly know what they're doing. The vibe is very casual, yet high-energy when busy, with a comfortable space indoors and a patio option. Reservations are easy to make on OpenTable. The place is well staffed--both on the floor and in the kitchen--and the menu offers a nice variety of interesting items beyond their centerpiece: Detroit-style pizzas. The pizzas are well conceived with thoughtful combinations, and they're passionate enough about their creations to state, "we kindly decline any modifications or amendments." I respect that. I skipped the salad, though it looked tempting at the next table. Beer selection is limited--bottles only--but enough to please. We ordered the ABAGNALE, topped with Ezzo's pepperoni, sweet onion, torn burrata, mozzarella, sweet sauce, basil, and hot honey. It was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked, with a lightly caramelized crust. Even though Detroit style isn't my first choice (I lean toward a thin-crust NY slice), this was pizza done on the highest level. We went on the early side and the place quickly filled up--everyone seemed to be having a great time. Service was excellent, thanks to our server Mario. If you want an introduction to their pizza, they do slices at lunchtime. Also, don't overlook their fantastic hot sandwiches (sandos) available at lunchtime as well... and on Mondays they run a $5 off Sandos promo at both locations... so there's no excuse not to give them a try. My husband is obsessed with pizza, so he bookmarked this spot, we drove 50+ minutes, and waited 45 minutes for a table (true commitment). Even take out was a 35 minutes wait! The wings and pizza were great, one of the best pizzas I have had in the palm beach county area. The place was slammed with people! This was my first time at Death by Pizza. We met friends for an early dinner, around 5:30. There were plenty of open tables inside, but they were all reserved. One of the hostesses was not particularly friendly, but I guess we all have bad days. We had to sit outside, and it was pretty hot. There are rotating fans that help, but until the sun goes down it's uncomfortable. They also have bug fans for flies. Maia was our server. She knew the menu backwards and forwards. She was nice and pretty attentive. We ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls as an appetizer. There were two egg rolls cut in half, so we were each able to try them. They were pretty good. My husband ordered the Kobra style wings. He said they were flavorful. He would try the Liquid Gold next time. Two of us ordered the smaller portion of the Short Rib Pappardelle. It was delicious, but very small. The wings were reasonably priced, however, the starter and pasta dishes were overpriced for the portion sizes. The pizza is Detroit style. The location here at Atlantic and 441 is a little odd, tucked into this mini plaza by a WaWa gas station the surrounding area is still pretty desolate and under construction. However once you get here the service was speedy and friendly. They have surprisingly good Detroit style pizza. The Johnny Boy in particular was my favorite. We had a good lunch here -- although it took over a half an hour to get any of our food. The restaurant is in an unusual location off 441 in an area with not much around it except a Wawa gas station. But we'd been here before when this spot was a different pizza place. This one is way better. The restaurant was full when we were there and there was a large group of women at a long table. We took the only open table. Because it was so busy, it took a while to order and the server and kitchen were overwhelmed. When we finally got our ultimate salad, it was wonderful. Chock full of tasty bits: iceberg lettuce, salami, provolone cheese, roasted red peppers, and tomatoes in an Italian vinaigrette dressing. We left off the onions. We both loved the salad. We took a portion of it home. After sharing the salad, we shared a meatball sub. The meatballs were tender and delicious and topped with cheese. The tomato sauce was non-acidic. And the roll was crisped in the oven. The only downside was that the bottom bread got quite soggy from the sauce, so there was no way to eat it but with a knife and fork. We didn't get their pizza although the couple seated next to us enjoyed it. And told us so. They have a number of different kinds by the slice (square?). I will preface by acknowledging that on a Tuesday afternoon they were hosting a large party of women celebrating an event. This was a contributing factor in our Everything Salad and Meatball Sub taking over 30 minutes. 20 minutes to get water and fountain beverage. However, when our food did arrive it was very very good. We have been following Death by Pizza on Instagram for years, but it's not really that close to us so we never had an opportunity to go. But this past week, we went with a couple friends on our way down to the Keys for vacation. WOWWWWW! I'm a little sad we hadn't gone sooner! This pizza is INCREDIBLE. Top 3 for me for sure! The weekly special when we were there was the Short Rib Truffle Cream - just amazing. We also ordered a few other things to split among each other: Philly Cheesesteak Egg rolls (So good!!), Chicken Caesar Wrap (yum!!) and the Fried Chicken Ala Vodka Sando (delicious!). We even went back again on way back home from the Keys and got the other special of the week: Tie Die Chicken Parm Pie - of course AMAZING. Having enjoyed the take-out pizza from the original Death by Pizza location, we were excited to visit the new DBP location for dine-in service. To better describe the food here, they really need to rename this place as "Joyously Living by Pizza"! We dined outdoor in a nice setting away from the parking lot. The outdoor temperature was more pleasant than inside the bone-chilling restaurant. The menu at the full-service restaurant is also more extensive than the take-out location, as DBP features a variety of large and creative salads along with several types pasta dishes and a range of ginormous chicken wings. We ordered the Vodka Roni pizza, which includes the spicy Ezzo pepperoni cups and vodka sauce on a crispy, thick Detroit style pizza crust. So, so yummy! (Note: The version of this pizza with a sweet tomato sauce is called Roni Jabroni.) Unfortunately, there was a mix-up in the order, and we were given the Rupert Pupkin pizza, which includes pieces of fried chicken milanese along with the vodka sauce. We didn't realize this error right away and actually enjoyed a slice of this pizza before it was whisked away and we were served the Vodka Roni pizza. While the chicken was quite tasty, nothing compares to the Ezzo pepperoni. In fact, my wife inquired about buying some uncooked pepperonis to take home, and the chef gladly obliged us. So now we can enjoy these pepperonis on other dishes at home. (We'll think of DBP when we do!) The menu notes that the pizzas are large enough to serve 2 - 3 people. If you order a salad or an appetizer with your pizza, you'll definitely be taking home several slices of pizza. Yay! The server was polite and accommodating, especially when we asked for refills on our waters. We enjoyed our dinner at DPB (maybe someday renamed as "Joyously Living by Pizza") and we will definitely return for some more pizza as well as some of the other tempting menu items. read more

I want to start this off with I will definitely be back. The pizza here is phenomenal. Not my typical choice of pizza, but it's delicious! They use good quality products and it shows! The 50/50 gnocchi was ok at best. Maybe it's because I make the best homemade pesto, but I did not like the pesto gnocchi, flavor was lacking.. it tasted like it could've been pesto from a jar.. the house vodka half tasted better, I would probably never order that again. The short rib Pappardelle was delicious! And a must try! I definitely want to try more items off the menu, it's definitely worth the hype I'm seeing all of our social media. Service here was good, staff was very friendly, only advice I can give the staff is to ask if we want clean plates after we're done appetizers and ask if I want crushed red peppers or Parmesan cheese when the pizza and pasta come out. Death by pizza- the viral pizza takeout sensation now has a full service restaurant in west delray. I was craving pizza on Friday night and decided to order some for pick up from their new location. We got the nosefertu, the meatballs with whipped ricotta, and a side of the liquid gold sauce. The place is very nice with a huge open kitchen. I love that as you can see the magic happen and how they keep everything squeaky clean. There were a lot of people dining in and they have both inside and outside seating on a side patio. My pizza was amazing. It smelled so great on the drive home I was tempted to dig in but I kept my patience. The crust is perfectly crispy with a nice chewy center. It's just right without it being heavy or overly greasy. The meatballs were also stellar and the liquid gold sauce (a garlic butter sauce) was great for dipping crusts in. We are huge fans of Two Egg- the breakfast, the bakery, all of it. I had always wanted to order their pizza but never found that right time to do so since it's in Delray and you had to order ahead of time. So now with an actual storefront, we decided it was time to make it happen! We ordered the Nosferatu and the Grandma's - Detroit style pizza is the name of the game here folks and there are no alterations so what you see is what you get. Came with huge pepper! I've known about Death by Pizza for SO long, but have avoided it simply based on all the hype. I figured it would just be overpriced, mediocre pizza. I decided to pull the trigger and go once they opened their new location which was closer to me. It's a really nice and big space. With a kitchen that you can see into, and see how hard everybody is working to crank out your fresh pizza and sandwiches. Despite it being busy, we were able to get a table quickly. We ordered the burrata and tomato to start, along with two Fountain drinks. And then for our entrees we ordered a fried chicken ala vodka sando and a slice combo which comes with 2 slices and drink. The burrata and tomato was fantastic. Incredibly fresh, exploding with flavor a real great start to the meal. The fried chicken ala vodka sando was insanely huge. For the price I almost feel like I ripped them off. The chicken was beautifully fried, the perfect amount of sauce and cheese. The bread was so soft, I almost wish it was a little harder so that it had a bit more of a bite to it. And the sesame on the bread added a nice mild nutty flavor. It definitely ended up being two meals and reheated wonderfully in the airfryer. For the 2 slices as an entree, we got the Mr. White and Cryptonite. Unfortunately if you're vegetarian, you don't have a lot to choose from when it comes to individual slices. That's the only downside to the experience. But as far as vegetarian slices go, the Mr. White was fantastic. The pesto tasted very fresh. The Cryptonite has that same vodka sauce which is beautifully flavored. The pizza slices are fluffy, but crisp on the edges, and they're pretty big and filling! To go we ordered two more slices, another Mr. White and a Redrum. Along with a 1/2 lb chocolate chunk cookie. The server was nice enough to ring up the to-go slices as a combo since I also ordered a fountain drink. The cookie was massive! In the chocolate chunks were huge, perfectly proportioned to the size of the cookie. I could see how adding ice cream to this would be absolutely divine, which they do have on the menu. The Redrum slice was hands down one of my favorites. I love those crispy pepperoni cups which caught all of the hot honey goodness. I didnt get too many jalapenos on my slice, but who cares, it was amazing. Also the to-go slices we had the next day, and again, they heated up beautifully in the air fryer. Overall, is this place super budget friendly? No. A whole pizza is pretty pricey. And the burrata and tomato costs more than the fried chicken sando. The sando was only $15, and the burrata and tomato was $17. The combos were only $12 each, and the cookies was $6. All in all, we paid $66.34, and it made four meals. Not bad at all, but probably won't be my go-to spot all the time, because you also have to factor in a tip if you're eating there. However, I'll definitely be back to try more menu items and for such a young business, it's great to see how fast it's growing and I wish it all the success! read more

I had dinner here and I was absolutely blown away by the pizza! We decided to try to we tried the margarita and I can't remember the name of the other, but it was pepperoni. Both were absolutely delicious. Was so kind and informative. He described all the different items on the menu and was extremely accommodating. The only thing I would say is a little negative is that besides having a very small footprint with very few tables they are also quite small. They sat five of us at a very small round table. Such a great experience! And well worth the hour drive my friends and I took to dine here. The place was packed and loud but it wasn't too off putting. Despite our reservation, it still took 35 minutes for us to be sat as they only have one 6-seater table. Our server was super friendly and even packed our leftovers for us, which was highly appreciated. Death By Pizza always blows my mind. Whenever I think of good pizza or have a pizza craving, I think of Death By Pizza. My friends' minds were blown and I can't wait for the next hour-long journey for pizza. Oh and the tenders were sooo so yummy. I don't know how they make them so flavorful. The chicken just falls apart and the sauce is so mouthwatering. We chose the S'mores Brownie Sundae and wow that thing was huge!! So glad we were a table of 6 because we needed everyone to tackle this dessert. I'm totally at all because I don't remember her name, but she's the gorgeous girl with the Marilyn Monroe tattoo on her arm. Such a phenomenal waitress and beyond attentive. The food was absolutely outstanding! We started off with the Korean barbecue wings which were to die for. The pizza was sensational. We got something called the easy E which had mushrooms and pepperonis perfectly cooked. We try to pasta which had short ribs on top. Absolutely scrumptious. For dessert we ended up with a brownie s'mores gelato galore. I have no idea what it was called, but I thought that's how you every single calorie was worth it!
