We haven't eaten in Goliad in a number of years and tried to remember the last place we ate at. This wasn't it, but we still made a great selection. From start to finish, the staff, food, and service were incredible. The only drawback was the chicken fried steak had brown gravy on it instead of cream gravy. The server stated that is what I requested. Who knows?! Maybe I did! The food was still delicious nonetheless! This was a beautiful restaurant. Don't let the exterior of the building fool you. Beautiful decor and ambiance! Everything was seemless. Please eat here. You won't regret it!

Food was good, server just doing her job. Atmosphere, place fell like home. Great prices for good food.

Grilled chicken, smothered in mushrooms and onions with fried okra and buttered corn!

Cute local hometown cafe. Everything made from scratch served hot and fresh! The dessert looked delicious but no room after our meals, but the offer to go.

Took a day trip with the wife on Valentine's Day to Goliad Tx! Wonderful town with Missions and old Forts to visit. Found this little restaurant on the town square and gave it a try. Food was excellent and in just the right portions. I had the daily special, which was lasagna and my wife had grilled chicken. Very tasty and no complaints. The waitress was nice and took care of us well. I noticed that the owner was helping out where she was needed and even had her young daughter manning the cash register and credit card machine. The place was very clean and had an air of old town charm. We will definitely go back on our next visit that direction.

This is a very homey restaurant. The walls are adorned with pictures of families enjoying meals together. The tables have vintage looking salt and pepper shakers, different sets on each table. This old building has the feel of home. I had the pecan crusted chicken w/ linguine, however today it was spaghetti. The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It came topped with some butter and a drizzle of honey. The spaghetti didn't have any sauce on it so I just used the butter and it was fine. The server was friendly and did a great job. The prices are reasonable and provide a great lunch value. I will visit again.

Clean, attentive staff. Food was served quickly and it was very good. A home away from home feel to the place.

I've never been to a Buc-ee's, but my family and friends have ranted and raved about the jumbo beaver-inspired travel centers for several years. With that being said, I immediately made a strong correlation between Buc-ee's and The Texan. After a long swim in the hotel pool, my daughters and I reviewed the dinner offerings in the sleepy town. I suggested we just go check out The Texan and at least restock on fluids and snacks for our upcoming beach trip. As soon as we walked in, we all gravitated to the grab-n-go section. Cold items included salads, sandwiches, fruit and veggie cups, boiled eggs, pies, and other desserts. Then we drifted towards the hot items: pizza, tacos, burgers, and other plates, but I was curious about the BBQ sliced brisket sandwich ($9.99). It was so good! Not soggy. Loads of brisket! They also had donuts, kolaches, and muffins in another display. Here's the rest of our supper menu: + sweet tea drinks (medium) = $1.69 + sweet tea (large) = $1.79 + Nutty Bavarian dessert in a cup = $4.49 + 3-piece cake balls cup = $6.99 + grilled chicken sandwich = $8.99 + 5-pc jalapeno poppers = $5.99 + a large meat lover's pizza slice = $3.99 + pecans Great service. Restrooms, a beer cave, wine selections, souvenirs, indoor dining area, and gas/diesel pumps also available. Big rigs have their own area. The only bummer was they sold out of these really cool dog stickers with the Texas flag.

The food options were plentiful but the chopped beef sandwich and fries that I got were a bit disappointing; the fries were once crispy some hours ago but became a soggy lump of sadness once trapped in its plastic container in a hot box. The buns in the sandwich were also smushed/soggy beyond repair with moisture and residual pickle juice; the disadvantages of lower food turnover definitely affects the freshness of the product a bit. They still have a good selection of chips, drinks, and merch so it's a step above the usual run of the mill stop.

The food was absolutely excellent--fresh, flavorful, well-prepared, and made with quality ingredients. You could tell a lot of care went into every plate, from the presentation to the taste. The portions were great, and everything we ordered came out hot and delicious. The service was just as impressive. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and welcoming, especially considering how busy a first opening day can be. The new location has such a great atmosphere, and we truly enjoyed the entire experience. I understand they split time with another restaurant, so there's a Cajun menu and the Water Well Cafe menu -- our family ordered from both. Across the board, everything was good. The Cajun menu looked great. Mexican chicken fried steak, ~$20 -- 100% worth ordering. I'd never had a Mexican chicken fried steak before -- it's basically a chicken fried steak, but it comes with an order of queso on the side. Something different and unique, and very, very good. Highly recommend it. The sides I had were the okra, tater tots and a roll, all above average. Bottom line, everything we had here was very good. Would highly recommend, and would come again.

I had called 30 mins prior but they do not do reservations but I gave them my info over the phone anyway. Upon arrival, I did get seated rather quickly with my group of 8, but that's not why I took off 2 stars. This would have been a 3.5 star restaurant because the food was good when it finally came out, but the key word is finally. Once we ordered, it took about 1 hour for the food to even come out. For a small breakfast restaurant this is just ridiculous. We saw 2-3 other tables that arrived after us that received their food. It tells me they either only have 1 person in the kitchen, or they're not prepared for a Sunday crowd. Either way, they're were not prepared. Our group ordered both lunch and breakfast items but based on the foods that were coming from the kitchen, they chose to only cook the breakfast items and bring those to other tables. I chose the chicken fried steak since the menu indicated it was hand-breaded. I picked Texas toast as my bread, and green beans and mashed potatoes as my sides, expecting them to be basically canned and powdered potatoes. The sides ended up being fresh green beans cooked well done with caramelized onions which were very flavorful. The potatoes were homemade as well with cream gravy, but needed some additional seasoning. The rest of my group loved their food too, as all 7 other plates were cleaned with no food left. Just when we thought we were in the clear it was time to pay. Well, that didn't go all that well either. Our waitress was busy bringing orders out and catering to another newly seated table and going back and forth to the kitchen getting them anything and everything to go along with their meal, meanwhile we had our check ready and she bypassed our table 2-3 times and didn't look our way. I didn't want to be rude since she was nice, but she was in over her head and beyond busy apparently. Three stars is being nice here, but we did like the food....so that's their saving grace.
