As a visitor it can be unnerving visiting new places in the US, but soon as I walked into the store…read moreI received a warm welcome and felt immediately comfortable! The owner took a real interest in helping me and showing me local products. I wasn't sure what to expect walking in, as their website doesn't show their products. However there was an impressive selection to choose from, one that I felt encompassed a wide price point which I appreciated. There was lots of different brands/ fibers/ weights ranging from $4 to $30 (all great quality). A great store for garment/ sock knitters like myself, I did also spot some unique fibers that would be great for other items like bags or amigurumi. One thing I would suggest is maybe providing baskets to carry around since I bought so much!

I walked in on a Sunday around 2pm. I was never greeted by any person. There were two tables of…read morepeople knitting in groups. There was a strong odor of cigarette smoke outside the shop, but thought this could have been from someone smoking outside. Nope. The strong smoke odor permeated throughout the shop. I spent about 15 minutes in the shop, picking up several different skeins of yarn to inspect the fibers and composition. No one was at the register. I'm not even sure if anyone there was working or not. It felt like I had entered a party that I was not invited to. Strange experience. I wanted to support a local business instead of Michaels, but walked out without a purchase. Even as I was exiting there was no greeting of any kind.

I had to go purchase replacements but the first attempted was no charge even for the correct ones, but right so. Odd that the proof was correct but the finished items were incorrect. I located replacement sweaters then we tried again. No proof this time. I did pay a fee for the replacements, which I thought was odd because I had to locate and purchase materials at my expense due to their error but the good news was the price was do-able. I'd use them again but be very clear about what you want done, especially if it is a non-replaceable heirloom item.

Classic bait & switch. Explanation of the 4x markup was due to the possibility of replacement due to a possible mistake on their part....so essentially the cost of doing business or loss due to mistakes are to be paid by consumer according to this companies policy. The hats that are offered by every other embroidery shops weren't offered here for some reason. The shop employees are rude and don't seem to have understanding of basic customer service accountability... BUYER/Consumer BEWARE !! (Rude + Dishonest Establishment)

I've taken a couple of classes here, some before the pandemic and one since (as well as a class at…read moreher Berwyn location as the day worked better). When I had trouble figuring out her website, the owner worked with me, and when I took a class wanting to do something very specific (make a traditional wired-brim hat that duplicated the look of one from a film), she helped me with that too even though it was slightly different from what the class was about (making an artistic felt hat). This is the only place in the suburbs that I know of which does any kind of millinery classes (felt hats from wool roving), and I'm grateful it's available. The owner's primary focus is the fabric arts (felting; weaving; dyeing) but also offer some bead and jewelry classes; the class I just took was a jewelry-making class in silver, copper, brass and even bronze taught by another artist. We all walked out with a generous handful of pieces we'd made and it was a lot of fun. I feel lucky to have access to such a variety of classes without having to drive in to Chicago, and the Berwyn studio is also fairly convenient. You might be taking a class all by yourself or with some other people; she has huge quantities of supplies, is patient guiding students, and you'll leave with something cool you made yourself. (She also sells tools and some of her / others' art. Some open studio available.) Limited parking in the back; some street parking. Studio might be a bit cold in the winter; consider a sweater or hoodie.

I had the MOST horrible phone experience with this place. Unfortunately, I called the get…read moreinformation on the jewelry classes and received unacceptable phone etiquette from Tammy ( one of the instructors ). I was hoping to find a reasonable adult on the other end and instead I spoke with a child. The price for a private class was double the amount ( 2 people ) plus materials for certain classes. This being "ok" because there may not be at least 2 people signing up for the same class. While having a 30 minute conversation after being interrupted numerous of times when I'm trying to get information. I was finally told that I wouldn't be a good fit for her and that we shouldn't work together LOL. I was shocked and amazed at the level of disrespect and combative behavior I received speaking with this lady on the phone. Don't waste your time or money dealing with this kind of attitude and low level customer service. If you're looking to take a jewelry making classes for a reasonable price without the attitude, try Circle of Stones in LaGrange. They offer private one on one classes and all are classes are $35 for an hour and a half. Not $76 the price for 2 people at TLD for a private class. Circle of Stones also provide custom classes for the same price!! Perfect for me!! I'm looking forward to my first class next month!! Oh please, there was no miscommunication at all. This was definitely bigger than $3 and 3 hours oppose to 1.5 hours lol that's hilarious! Your attempt to save face is so horrible.
