Decadent Catering is such a great find. I was introduced to the company while my office was planning out 75th anniversary/open house party. I helped the office manager a bit with the planning and Dean was such a pleasure to work with and the food was fantastic! There was a multitude of delicious appetizers, that the servers served perfectly, if only I had more time to eat them! Dean and his team also turned out 8' conference table into a beautiful display of food, including cheese/crackers, a few dips, their delicious homemade potato chips and a big display of delicious mini cupcakes. All in all everything was impecable! My office also used Decadent to cater our office holiday party and again Dean was a pleasure. It was a much smaller affair and he was able to work with our budget to create a beautiful spread. This time we didn't have servers to save money but they still delivered everything and set it up beautifully for us. read more

I had used them before for various events and they did a decent job. Unfortunately, when they catered the most important event I ever used them for, they failed me.. I recently used them for my wedding. They catered both there rehearsal dinner and the reception. When they have catered events in the past the presentation and quality of the food has been excellent. On the evening of our rehearsal dinner the food was just placed on the table. The linens were not those planned, there was no staging or presentation whatsoever. More importantly, the food was terrible. The tapenades were brought with no crostini, leaving us to wonder how we were supposed to enjoy them. The cheese plate was likewise without crackers. We were forced to rummage through our cupboards to look for crackers to use. The main course was chicken, which was so cold, dry and tasteless that even our guests mentioned having trouble eating it. The vegetables were NOT as planned. When we met with Dean we unequivocally requested anything BUT green beans. I hate green beans. We asked for broccoli. Guess what I found on the table, much to my horror.... Green beans! We had booked this dinner with servers, so we wouldn't have to worry about serving, clean up, etc. When we needed help, they were nowhere to be found until we went out and looked in their van. There they were, playing on their iPads. The next day was the wedding. Where do I start. We paid for an hour of cocktails and passed hors d'oeuvres, and when guests arrived neither the bar nor the appetizers were ready. They were not ready for about 15 of the 60' we contracted for. We then went upstairs to dinner. The candles for place markers were left unlit. We paid for 2 bartenders and an open bar. They sent one bartender, who was lobbing liquor bottles over her shoulder during the blessing and toasts, and spent the rest of the evening complaining vocally that she "needed a smoke." She was unable to make even the most basic of cocktails. There was a long line all night as there were half the servers there should have been. Dinner was served to the head table lacking any sides. The servers passed in front of speakers during toasts instead of across the other side of the dance floor. Vegetarian and gluten-free meals which were ordered were not available, in fact servers told our guests that they were were wrong when they said they had requested same. Non-alcoholic champagne was never offered as requested to our non-drinking guests. The cake was supposed to be cut and put on tables with labels as to which of the three cakes each was. They were cut and served haphazardly, some barely slivers of frosting, others huge slabs. As a result, there was not enough cake to go around. In fact, the head table got no cake... I did not even get a piece of my own wedding cake! We had had about a half dozen late hour cancellations, people who had ordered filet mignon. We were told by the caterer that while we could not change our order, we would be given those filets to take home. Instead they were either never supplied, or perhaps taken home by the servers. We never saw them. After the event we expressed our disappointment to Dean, who expressed regret and asked to meet with us. Three months later, when he had failed to follow up, we contacted him again and met with him discussing all of the above. It is now 5 months since our wedding and they/he has made no effort whatsoever to make it right. When I pay for certain services, I expect to get those services. They cannot undo the flail that was their performance at my wedding. They can make recompense on those services contracted for and not provided. Any other contractor is expected to provide the service for which you have paid, or in some manner adjust for the breach in contract. There are many other fine caterers in the providence area. We will use one of them next time. read more

If I could give this catering company 10 stars out of 5 I would. I met with Dean to get the ball rolling for my wedding day and he was so beyond helpful. He helped me stay within my budget and got creative with new ideas to make that budget manageable whilst having quality food. He was easy to work with and such a delightful person. Dean LITERALLY gave me the shoes off his feet at the end of the night after my sister accidently took mine away. Everyone raved about the food at the wedding and the service was amazing. The salmon and capers were perfectly prepared and they were beyond helpful to our guests with dietary restrictions. They helped build a menu that was even parts healthy, nutritious, and tasty. Our personal server Stacy made sure that our glasses were always full and she was always checking in to see if I needed anything at all. Honestly aside from amazing service, delicious cuisine and a professional attitude I loved everyone's warmth, the whole team was a pleasure to be around and had a great sense of humor. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. read more

From start to finish WE LOVE DECADENT!!!! They catered our wedding on September 7th and everything was perfect. The food from our tasting to the delivered product at our event was exceptional. I have been in the restaurant business for 20 years, ten of which I was food and beverage director and my husband is a Chef in Newport and we are nothing but impressed. As you can imagine this was our biggest decision and Dean made us feel confident the whole way through and fed!!!! Words cannot express enough how truly remarkable Dean and Charlene made my wife and I feel going into our wedding day. They were easy to work with, accommodating, and just fun people to know. I was what you might call a "groomzilla", but Dean made me feel confident that what we envisioned for the day would be a reality and it was perfect! While e visiting our venue one weekend in 2015 (a year before our wedding) we were lucky enough to meet Dean and watch his team at Decadent Catering set up for a wedding to be held that evening. He introduced us to the chef and we were very impressed how everyone was diligently working, smiling, already in uniform (hours before the event) and were paying such close attention to detail. While working with Dean, he was very honest in what was feasible or not with our budget and made sure he was able to give us what we wanted. He put many hours into planning and creating a menu for us that we would be happy with. Our guests loved the food and no one complained of there being too much or too little. Dean was very easy to communicate with and get a hold of over the course of the 12 months leading up to our big day. We mostly used email, but when he wrote back you could tell he gave an incredible amount of thought to answering your questions and never promised something he knew he wouldn't be able to keep. When we met Dean he was such a joy to talk to we instantly felt confident in his work. When speaking to Dean, you can tell this is not just a job, but rather his passion to create magic for the bride and groom that day and that's exactly what he did. The night progressed without a hitch in the planning and us and our guests had such a blast! The entire Decadent team is very passionate about the product they produced for our special day and honest about how to make it happen. When you work with them, you feel like you are their only client because of the attention to detail they give to your event. My wife and I will be raving about Dean and Decadent Catering for years to come and will be recommending his services to anyone we know needing a caterer. Decadent provides exceptional service, exquisite food, and at a lower price point than the big vendors in the area. Moreover, when Decadent caters your wedding or event, they focus all their time and energy on just your event. We sampled other caterers and felt that Decadent had the best food and a better vision for our event. We expected to pay more for this level of service, but in the end they were much less expensive despite delivering a higher value. You can't ask for more than that. Dean Mistretta is likely to be your main contact in the process. He is smart, outgoing, and has a huge amount of experience with weddings and other events. He starts off by getting to know you and then helps you shape your vision of the event. If you have a set plan, he will make sure it comes to fruition. We, on the other hand, really just had an impression of what we would like (summer, evening event, relatively casual and modern). It was remarkable to sit in on these meetings and find that you and the caterer were developing a common vision for the event naturally and effortlessly. And the food was outstanding. We received high praise for the food from all the guests -- and some of our guests had thrown incredible weddings of their own recently, so they knew what they were talking about. The Decadent staff was exceptional as well. Our other vendors specifically praised Decadent as being professional and easy to work with. After browsing their website and reading the reviews, I expected Decadent Catering to live up to its claim of offering "exquisite catering." I hired them to cater an event for ~50-60 persons. To say that I was disappointed is a huge understatement. Each dish, except for the chips and gorgonzola dip, were of the most inferior ingredients and not as described on their online menu. For instance the Seasonal Vegetable Crudités with Dipping Sauces was grocery-store variety carrots, zucchini, celery and cherry tomatoes served with bottled dressing (I discovered the bottles of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing left by the set-up crew). The Assortimento Platter did not live up to the promise of assorted domestic imported cheeses, gourmet olives, nuts and berries. Half the platter was filled with low-quality marinated beans and there were no cheeses included. The Tuscan Bruchetta and Tapenades were equally disappointing. The Assorted Stromboli were piled together on a huge platter, making it impossible to distinguish between the meat and vegetarian ones. I can't say that any of the items were a cut above what I could have ordered from a grocery deli which would have been a fraction of the cost. My guests clearly were also not impressed since everything, except the chips, was hardly touched. On top of that, the set-up items sat on my porch for over a week before they were picked up, even after I called several times. I am shocked by the positive reviews. Perhaps they put more care into huge events. To his credit, Dean was responsive to my complaints and offered me a partial refund. read more

This review is a long time coming for Decadent Catering. I first hired them to do my oldest sons high school graduation party in 2008. Planning, setting up, food, service, everything was wonderful! I then hired them in 2013 for our 25th anniversary party. Again, everything was just perfect! Dean has the best servers, they were all a pleasure to have at our house! We used Decadent Catering to cater our July 2010 Providence, RI wedding. The food was delicous and we received many compliments on the food and the courteous waitstaff. Their event manager, Diane, did a great job in keeping the timeline on track and catered to anything/everything that we wanted. Overall, this was a very positive experience. Went to a party last night that was catered by Decadent Catering. All I can say is WOW. The food was fresh and presented very well. The staff were on top of everything from making sure every guest had anything they wanted to keeping the house clean. It was the best catering experience I have had in over ten years. Sadly, Decadent catering didn't deliver on my big day. I regret using them for reasons running from them not packing enough coffee, to forgetting to tell people to got up to get the buffet, to setting up the room incorrectly, to overpromising and underdelivering on a number of things, and personally insulting me by bringing up the fact that I was happy I got a good deal on my honeymoon as a way to justify why the service didn't meet my expectations - what does that have to do with anything?? read more

The homemade potato chips and gorgonzola dipping sauce were great. That's the good news. The rest - not so much. I had just that and 3 pizzas for a very small event. Perhaps they are great if you are having a large event. For me, they were unsatisfactory. Two of the pizzas were okay (not nearly as wonderful as I expected, buf fine). But one person at my party had allergies to both dairy and various vegetables. Hence I customorder a pizza that would work for her and be interesting - pesto base, with mushrooms, spinach, eggplant and tomatoes - all picked so she could eat it. (sounded so good I was tempted to order two - good thing I didn't!) What I got had nothing at all to do with what I ordered. No pesto base, and totally different vegetables (zucchini, onions - which I had to remove, butternut squash and tomatoes). The chef seems to have just made it up as he went along. It was a bunch of boring veggies on a boring crust. One half slice was eaten; we had to throw out the rest. I had made clear that the veggies I were ordering were custom for allergies - so random substitutions are not acceptable. To be fair, Dean refunded me my money for that pizza and offered me a free pizza next time I am at Pizzico. But this doesn't change the fact that one of my guests had little she could eat. But that wasn't the only problem - it took weeks (and various excuses) to nail down a proposal (I asked for a revision - so some of the delay was mine, but mostly not) and a price. ('Your file got lost", "our computers crashed" ... ) All in all, this was very unprofessional - especially paying no attention to my order. I would not use them again. read more

My son got married in providence last weekend. The o'dourves and dinner entries were great, however it fell short of our expectations on three counts - (1) plastic cutlery, (2) didn't offer dessert in the price that they charged, (3) the most embarrassing of the three things was 'not enough food' which was most embarrassing to see people not being able to eat proper dinner. They ran out of quite a few dishes. Service was not great either. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more
