I've lost count of how many times I've bought from Decorium Furniture, but it never disappoints. This place is a hidden gem in Chicago, and it's worth the drive from Gurnee every single time. The furniture here is unique and of excellent quality. You won't find these pieces at the big box stores. Plus, the prices are really fair, which is a big deal these days.. We bought a large coffee table a few years ago from them and it looks as good today as it did then. Customer service? Top-notch. The staff is always friendly and helpful without being pushy. As soon my wife and I agreed to purchase a couple items, they their team wrapped and protected the products for us to take. We've also had them deliver which was a great experience. I was looking for a desk which would work well in my second bedroom. I looked on line and at many different stores. I could not find a place that would deliver a desk assembled and at a decent price. Most places wanted to send the desk not put together and left outside the condo unit. We would have to bring in this heavy package and wait for someone to assemble it. My husband and I are no longer spring chickens who could do this. I checked online at the Decorium. I found a very reasonably price desk that I liked. I called the store and spoke to a wonderful man called Jorge. What a gem! He was able to get the desk from their warehouse to the store within 2 weeks. The desk was assembled and delivered to us yesterday. Jorge brought it along with his brother. I love my new desk. The customer service was top notch. Quick notes on furniture shopping: This is the only one place where I felt like I'd get scammed - why? Well saw two bar stools that were listed at $359 each and asked if they'd do any discount for same-day Columbus Day sale. Guess what they said - sure, how about $980 for both. They said the original price was $659 and so they can discount from that. A lot of the furniture just looked heavily marked up on wholesale prices and none of it justified the price tags. I had such a positive experience with them the first time I needed to furnish my office that I went back to Decorium as my first stop when I decided to expand my office. My husband and I just bought a white leather bed here. We couldn't be more pleased with the quality, price and service. We tried multiple stores and everywhere were told it takes 6-8 weeks to deliver. Decorium was able to do it in a week. Granted, this particular piece was available in their warehouse but unless you want something really custom made, they can deliver within 2 weeks tops (from their warehouse in NY). The delivery and assemply went without any problems. I read some of the other reviews and I disagree with them. Decorium is reasonably priced; they offer variety of styles so depending on what you choose, the prices vary. Some of the leathern furniture are designed in Japan or Spain; those may be on a pricier end but they are also very unique. As for the comments about "furniture from Austin Powers movie" i couldn't help laughing. I feel sorry for al those midwest rednecks who cannot recognize quality nor style unless it comes in a typical, just-like-the-Joneses form. People like them should consider shopping at Walmart. read more

OK look. I get it that there are people out there who need to stay within a certain price point, and are also against all things vintage or "old" (my sister being a perfect example of this). And while Decorium meets this criteria you also need to know that this merchandise is some serious crap. If you are coming here based on the website, be forewarned. The website is seductively clever, making the showroom as well as the products look better than they really are. But wait until you walk into the actual store. The store itself looks like a mix of a storage unit, store closing sale and bordello. The upstairs is in such disarray it looks like someone is either sleeping in the display beds on a regular basis, or someone likes to take "testing the mattress" to a whole other level. If I owned a store and one day I realized it looked like this I would make myself into a human Moltov cocktail and lock myself inside. Some of the most ridiculous furniture and art (hello, soft core porn on the north wall) is thrown together haphazardly with some relatively decent looking pieces. The only problem is that these items all have a life expectancy of about 8 1/2 weeks (2 weeks if you actually plan on using them). Cardboard, bonded leather, photo finishes...you name the crappy cost-cutting feature, these things have it all. Which is all great if you don't mind temporary furniture, but really, for any sort of long term use you are totally throwing your money away. Oh and bonus points if you get the old guy with the long silver hair, who will be super aggressive and manage to toss in a few completely inappropriate remarks if you are a woman. And I love the review accusing this place of honing in on competitors business through Craigslist. If other furniture stores consider this place a threat, then maybe they should be out of business. All it takes to be better than Decorium is a mop and 2 pieces of furniture actually made out of wood. read more

I was kind of surprised to see that the Decorium had received such poor reviews on Yelp. I think furniture stores are, unfortunately, in a business where a lot can go wrong; maybe that's why it has so many unfavorable reviews. If you look at other reviews for furniture places, they all seem to receive a mix of good and bad. With the Decorium, I had a good experience and would order furniture from them again. My husband and I recently bought a new condo and needed a dining room table with chairs, as well as stools for a breakfast bar. After shopping around, we decided to go with a table that we had seen in the basement of the Decorium's showroom. We didn't really care for the chairs that were paired with it, so Carlos was able to find us chairs and benches we liked along with matching bar stools to go along with our breakfast bar. The furniture was available within a week. We paid extra to have the pieces delivered and assembled at our condo, which I thought was well worth the extra cash. Two very nice guys delivered and assembled the furniture. They were fast and polite and didn't hang around awkwardly waiting for a tip when they were finished. I gave them a tip anyway because that's how I roll. I just don't like it when I feel pressured to tip. Overall, I thought it was a really good experience. The salesman, Carlos, was really helpful and friendly. The delivery/assembly guys were great. I love how the furniture looks in our new place. I'm a happy customer! NOTE: I will say that some of the pieces in the Decorium showroom are a little weird. I think a lot of that has to do with just trying to get people in the door with eye-catching furniture in the windows. I don't know. There is some weird stuff there, but they also sell Ashley Furniture pieces, which are pretty normal-looking. I am a big fan of Decorium and here's why: Husb and I needed to purchase several items. A love seat, chair, coffee table and king size platform. I had read the reviews on Yelp (not great) but decided to check out the store anyhow. I had gone to a competitor and was not at all pleased w/the service and subsequent lack of customer support from the owner. Husb and I figured we go and see for ourselves -- plus, there was a very funky bedroom set in the display window, and while not my taste, I wanted to check it out up close and personal. Charles, the wonderful, genuine and remarkably intuitive associate/sales rep., let us alone for a good long while we browsed all three floors. Afterwards, we gave Charles a good idea of what we wanted and asked him for pricing and options. Like quicksilver, he was able to put together pages and pages options from 6 or 7 different catalogs for our bed frame. While we did not find one we liked at that visit, and did not make a purchase or any other furniture, Charles filed away the notes he took on the items we were interested in and had them at the ready at our second visit. At that time, we decided to work w/Charles to place an order for a dark green love seat, chair, ottoman and a king bed frame. Before placing the order; I asked Charles about the negative ratings on Yelp. He was completely open about them and said that sometimes, when a piece is being designed overseas, it can take a good deal longer than the estimate Decorium is provided by the designer at the start of the project as each piece is handmade. Charles was upfront that it would take about 7-10 days for the love seat, chair and ottoman and about a month or so for the king bed platform. To date, he has kept his words and we have been back to buy tables. He even told us the best place in the area to look for a specific type of kitchen table. I would definitely recommend AGAINST buying anything custom made here. I'm sure you might be ok buying something off the showroom floor, but we had a negative experience buying a couch custom made. And yes, some of the blame lies on us. With a custom couch, obviously we weren't able to see or feel it before we bought it. But we were very very explicit in what we wanted. I told the owner that I wanted something really soft and plush, that would work well as a couch that could be used to sleep on as well. At one point, I even demonstrated physically, how I wanted to be able to "plop" on the couch by mimicking how I would jump onto it. I told them, I want it to be so soft and comfy that you can just launch yourself on top of the couch. That's the kind of couch we wanted. So I was pretty damn specific. We went through this huge book of style options and settled on one that looked good, and again, I reiterated how I wanted a soft comfy plush sofa good for lounging and sleeping. When we got the couch, 2 weeks later than promised, and with no apologies or anything, it immediately it just was not comfortable. Very hard and stiff and firm, the seat really wasn't deep enough for anything other than sitting up straight (not a lounging sofa) and the color was not what we expected either. I contacted Decorium straight away and basically the answer we got was that this was just the nature of the couch we got and not much could be done unless we wanted to pay for the couch to be shipped back to the manufacturer and shipped back which would cost several hundred dollars. The sofa is a tightback. And if I knew couch lingo, I guess I should have known that a tightback is just that, tight and straight with not much give to it. I didn't know that and maybe I should have. But I feel like when ordering a custom item, I relied on the expertise of the workers there. If this type of style and couch wasn't good for lounging and was firm and straight and not very deep, shouldn't they have told me that? Shouldn't they have said, "for what you're looking for, this isn't the right kind of couch." But instead they just kept saying, "Ok, yes, ok. We can do that. This is the one you want? Ok." I think they were just intent on making a sale and not really caring that we got the right couch for us. Because it's a custom couch, no refunds, no returns, nothing. We even offered to buy another, more expensive couch off the showroom floor if they would take the one we had made for us, but they wouldn't even entertain the idea. The worker literally waved at the showroom floor and said, "Where would I even put it? I have no room for it." Wow, thanks for all that great customer service. I definitely think if you see a couch you like here, the prices are ok. And I know that ultimately, it was my decision to get the couch I got and that falls on me. But don't expect the people here to guide you in any meaningful way and don't buy custom from here! They want the sale and that's it and won't help you if you're not satisfied. read more

BEWARE AND BE EXTRA CAREFUL DEALING WITH DECORIUM Very tricky sales reps. I went to the Decorium store, bought a sofa and loveseat. Liked it but saw some spots on loveseat. Sales rep said not to worry about that and that there will be no spots in the piece that will be delivered to me. He wrote "floor model as is" on the receipt and when I asked him said not to worry about that. I trusted the guy and gave him $800 advance for $1300 set. When they delivered today, the love seat not only had The spots but the leather polish on the side and back had noticeable discolaration patch. When I called the store I was given the reason that it is "as is" model. He was not ready to stick to his word. I felt ripped off. The only option I had was to ask the drivers to take the loveseat back and take rest 500 when I get a better piece. I went through lots of discussion and I felt I am fooled by trusting them on their words. I would recommend to be very careful while dealing with decorium. read more

This is a great store in our neighborhood with very helpful, reliable staff/owner Kim. Also, all the other employees at the store have been consistently helpful and friendly on every visit--and there have been a number as we have found many great items to furnish our place. They called me and said my table will be in store tomorrow after 4pm and when I came to pick it up they said it's not there yet! No phone call nor email! I just spent the last 20 minutes debating with a Decorium employee about why furniture will NOT be delivered on the day promised (tomorrow). . . although, I've already scheduled the time off to receive the delivery. Apparently, they think its okay to call people within less than 24 hours of when they plan to deliver it and the customer will just rearrange their life to accommodate. Had I known that the nearly 1-hour drive in traffic to the north side would have resulted in such inconvenience, I would have just gone to the big box store and paid a few extra $'s to have had the same pieces delivered the next day. I haven't received my furniture yet to comment on quality but their ability to set realistic expectations with their customers suck! Additionally, the showroom is cold, dank, and disorganized. I hadn't been in this store at all before recently. I know that Chicago is full of conservative furniture stores that lack style and originality. I was kind of impressed by this place though. I stopped in the store in a bit of a rush to get what I was looking for. A few Mondays back I was looking to get a bedroom set by the weeks end when my move in date was. I was in a bit of a hurry and time was of great importance to me in this instance. After shopping around on the web for just a bit I realized that Decorium had some really great prices. I stopped by their store as well as 3 others in the area. I mentioned to all the stores that I was looking to have something real soon and Decorium was only 1 of 2 stores that could accommodate my request so quickly. I narrowed things down and wound up making my purchase through Decorium because I found their selection to be fantastic! Their store on Western Ave. is huge. The showroom has a lot to choose from and I could've easily spent 2 hours there browsing what they have to offer. I didn't spend that long there at all though. A nice guy by the name of Ed helped me out while there and helped me select a bedroom collection that was decent quality and was able to be delivered the same week. At the end of the week 2 friendly delivery guys delivered my bedroom set to my new condo. They were at my place promptly during the time slot of when management said they'd be there. They also didn't damage anything in my place at all and they setup my bedroom set in less than an hour. Their delivery staff definitely seems to know what they're doing. I was impressed with my experience at Decorium. I found the staff there to be knowledgeable and not too pushy. Ed was both patient but yet understood that I was in a bit of a hurry with my furniture needs. I know that the furniture business is a bit tough and delays are unavoidable at times but I found this particular shopping experience through Decorium to be very pleasant. My wife and I always used to walk by this furniture store and laugh at the loud Austin Powers-style furniture they had in the window. The furniture is an odd mix of contemporary and over-the-top. We needed a couch, and just decided on a whim to check out what they had. To our surprise, we found something that we wanted! We went into this experience wanting a nice leather sectional with ottoman at an affordable price. We found these things, but soon discovered that poor customer service and a long wait time would dominate our next SIX MONTHS! We special ordered our sectional, and have in writing that it would arrive in 7 to 15 weeks. Week 15 came around, and we contacted Decorium to see what was going on. One week later they delivered our sectional, to our satisfaction. The delivery men were courteous, and set up the couch quickly. The ottoman was not delivered. We asked about the ottoman, which was "lost somewhere in the warehouse." Each time we called, they said they would "look into it, and call us tomorrow." We never received a call in return. We made 4 or 5 stops to the store to try and sort things out-- to no avail. 22 weeks later, we still have NO ottoman! When we courteously confronted the salesman in charge of locating our ottoman, we were treated quite rudely, and he began shouting and throwing his hands up in the air in apparent frustration-- with us! Needless to say, we will not shop there again, and HIGHLY recommend that you try another store for your furniture needs. read more

I think the wise word/phrase to use here is: DON'T GET CUSTOM ORDER! They really just don't seem like they can handle it. My experience was I loved a couch they had on display but it was in bright purple. Not really my color. But the sales clerk said I could order it custom and here are the 50+ leather swatches it can be done in. So I chose a Mahagony and the sales person said it would be about 3 months. This was in Nov 2012. Around the end of Jan I called and they said to expect it in late March. In April I called and they (Kim who may be a manager or owner) said some mistake had been made. I couldn't really understand what the mistake was but I got the impression they hadn't ordered enough to justify shipping from China from their supplier and didn't give the instruction they should have of "ship it anyway". Regardless, Kim now quoted me mid to late July and 5% discount. And even offers to refund my deposit money. I'm kind of frustrated at that point because I think 7 months for a couch is a ridiculously long time. But I really liked the couch. I think. I remember really liking the couch, but couldn't even picture it anymore. Mid-July 2013: I happened to be in the area and stopped by the store so I could remember what my couch looks like and to get an update. No couch on the floor but the person I talked to was able to bring it up on the computer and print a picture. I hate that I still like this couch. However she was unable to give me a status update, but would let Kim know I stopped by. Later that day, to her credit, Kim calls. Still more issues with shipping and it won't be in for at least another 8 weeks. 8 WEEKS!!! That puts it at Mid-Sept. A full TEN MONTHS since I placed the order. Kim emphatically offers my money back, or I can wait for the couch. Or I can get my money back. OR... I can get my money back. It was pretty clear that Kim wanted to be done with this transaction. Especially when she said "I'm never going to offer to do this custom order thing again to anyone. Too much hassle". So we reached a compromise. She would refund my money and call me when the couch comes in, so if I'm still in need of a couch I can purchase it. Deposit money was promptly refunded to my credit card. Am I am still in the market for a couch. :-( read more

This place has perhaps some of the strangest furniture you will see outside of a 1970's Science Fiction film. If you want a round bed and a square lamp, it's there for you. If you want a giant square sofa set in orange, it is there. Only problem is it's a bit pricey. Oh, also, everything is arranged on three separate floors and by "arranged" I mean "not really." She took me around the entire store and I could not believe how easily we picked out each item that I needed for my office. The prices are reasonable and comparable to other local furniture stores. I just wish there were more fabric couches, as that was what I was looking for but I'd still say there is a large selection. So, we went into Decorium furniture way back in March to see if we could find a few items for our place. It was important for us to keep the money local and not go to a big box store for any of our furniture. We walked into Decorium and worked with Charles so was very friendly. We ended up purchasing a dining table set (sigh un seen as it was not in the showroom) as well as a customized sectional and a coffee table. The owner was very up front with us that the order may take 8-10 weeks and we walked up the door happy with our purchase. Well, the happiness soon wore off. We get a call at the end of May that our furniture was in and that they would be delivering it. Great! Unfortunately, the couch that they delievered was the wrong couch as the chaise was on the wrong side. Specifically why we wanted to wait the 10 weeks for this exact couch. I call the store and no one really knew what was going on or how to fix the problem. Nobody called me back when they said they would and no one had any anwers for me. After 2 weeks, I am finally told that they have placed a new order for the couch and it will be another 8 weeks before it arrives!!!!!!! OK, I get that things happen, so I wasn't as annoyed with this issue..but it gets worse! While dealing with the wrong couch issue, we also had a coffee table issue. The table that we purchased was a floor model and they told us that they would not sell as it as they thought it was going to be discountinued. Well...they sold it. So, we didn't receive the table nor was there anything else in the store that seemed to appeal to us. Again, this process took at least 2 weeks as no one knew what was going on. I asked that we either be refunded our money for the table or that they put an order in for 2 additional dining chairs for our table. They add the chairs and then tell me that it will be an extra $75. What? No way! I have waited 3 months for you to tell me that you can't sell me a table that you actually sold me, no one calls me back and you sent me the wrong couch....you eat the $75 as I am not paying it. So, they agreed. 5 months later from the date of purchase we receive the actual couch that we ordered....still no coffee table! Needless to say, you get what you pay for. The service was horrible and everyone was always confused and did not get back to you in a timely manner. It takes me awhile to lose my cool as I work in hospitality and know shit happens, butt this was so ridiculous! It's like no one cared that we got the wrong stuff or any stuff at all! I really wanted Decorium to come through, but I am pretty sure we will not be stepping back into this store again due to the chaos and lack of customer service. read more

I went there to buy a bed room set. the sales person is very helpful in finding the stuff that i am looking for. she was able search for a matching sofa that we want to get with the bedroom set. she was patient and spent a lot of time on finding the one that matches and looks good. prices are very reasonable. the shop itself looks a little old but the furniture they offer is really nice. read more
