I was pleasantly surprised at how responsive this company is; the owner, Ophir, responded immediately to my phone call and request for a quote. He came to the house the next day. It was a small job; refinishing the kitchen/family room floors, installing new baseboards and a new electrical outlet, some demo of the fireplace mantle, and paint. After he gave me the quote, I called two of his references. Never heard back from one but the other was getting ready to hire him again for another job. The reference was really good; I asked about things like delays (there were none), fixing problems that came up (they were fixed), overall satisfaction with the job (very satisfied). I hired Decotal. They started a few days later; it seemed like I barely had time to move the furniture out of the room before they were there. They did demo first, removing the old mantle and baseboards, and then did the floors (this took several days but they were there each day). Ophir was there almost every day and continually inspecting the work. There were a few minor issues which were fixed as soon as I pointed them out. Tomas, the painter, was great! When they were done, there was some dust but not a lot. I did take all of the drawers out of the kitchen and emptied the cupboards and pantry. Not everything went back... I wanted to take the time to write a review for Decotal Construction, because it is very rare that you find a construction company that truly cares about doing beautiful detailed work and making sure that you are happy. Almost two years ago, my husband and I purchased our dream home in Ventura County. We had no idea the amount of work that completely remodeling this house would entail or even how to start the process. We called numerous contractors and most of them would not even return phone calls or schedule appointments. The contractors that did come to my house quoted me unbelievable prices to remodel my home, ie, $1,000,000. I called Decotal Construction and talked to a contractor named Ophir. Ophir scheduled a time to meet with my husband and I within the week. Ophir helped me with making plans on how to remodel our home and still live on the property. Ophir recommended that we convert our garage into a guest house and live in it until the main house was completed. He found an architect that drew up plans for our guest house and he gave us a reasonable and fair quote for the job. So, we hired Decotal. Decotal and their employees were 100% professional. Their work was detailed and beautiful. Ophir was kind, understanding, and helped me stay clam through this very stressful process. Our guest house was completed and it is absolutely beautiful!!! Ophir and his company did a wonderful job. I had a custom countertop cut and installed and could not be happier. I contacted other contractors to get quotes and no one else wanted to even attempt to do a custom countertop. I already had a beautiful piece of granite and wanted to use it. Other contractors tried to get me to get a prefabricated countertop or tried to convince me that I would be happier with a whole new expensive vanity, not Ophir. He quoted a fair price and did a beautiful job. I also had tile installed in my bathroom and the crew was so efficient. One of the most important things to me is he worked with my schedule. I have pets, so I wanted to be home with them. Every one who came into my house was professional, polite, and answered all my questions. I found Decotal Contruction on Yelp, (the only way to go). I read the reviews of several companies before deciding that I would contact this company. I had already met with 2 other types of companies for estimates on the work I wanted done over the past 6 months and after those meetings I had decided to put my project on hold because I had felt unsure after both of those meetings. One was with a handyman type who paid no attention to the detail of what I was asking for,he took a quick look around and gave me a "ballpark" estimate.Then I met with a person form a "big" construction company. This was a project manager that was sent to my house to give me an estimate. It was very impersonal, he seemed interested in up selling me to the "best" "most expensive" materials. Anyway after the holidays I was ready to try again and sent a message to Decotal through Yelp. I was contacted right away even though it was a holiday weekend by Ophir, the owner. Having the time to meet is hard for me as I own my own business as well and I was off work due to the holiday. Ophir came over the next day, went over in detail what I wanted. He carefully helped me to focus on the priorities, and helped me to make a less expensive choice when that would suffice, and advised me when not to go cheap as well. I felt confident right away that he was advising me based on my best interest. He is friendly and non-intimadating. I didn't feel uncomfortable at any time. His demo crew showed up first and they were fast! Swept through my home removing all the "don't wants" in no time! The crew is all friendly and easy to be around. The installation crew are very detail oriented and Ophir is even more so. He was constantly inspecting and adjusting the work his crew was performing to make sure the smallest detail was just perfect. People thought we were crazy for picking our contractor on yelp for a kitchen remodel, however, we could not be happier! The positive yelp reviews are spot on. Not only did Ophir stick to the price quoted, but his attention to detail was excellent. We were initially concerned about getting the work done on time because we had someone else coming in to do floors. It was not an issue; all of the work was completed by the agreed upon timelines. My daughter and I worked with Ophir Atar. We came away with two major observations. (1) He ensured that we were happy and satisfied with the end product, and (2) He was a great source of new and helpful ideas. In our case, he made suggestions that achieved a far-better end product than the one we had in mind. We started with a "small project" in our family room that grew along with our confidence in Ophir and his capabilities. We refinished the family room and kitchen floor, updated the baseboards, removed the fireplace mantle, extended a circuit to create a recessed power outlet over the fireplace, and repainted the walls. I bought a fireplace insert for LED lighting (it also has a heat function) and an 82" TV to hang over the fireplace. I intended to use the insert for mood lighting, never using its heat function for fear of damaging the TV. I was going to ignore the fact that (a) the fireplace opening was far larger than the insert (ugly filler panels would solve that issue) and (b) once hung, the TV would dwarf the small fireplace surround. The project expanded when Ophir suggested that he could obtain a slab of granite identical to that on the existing surround (Juparana Colombo) and from it fashion a new larger hearth and surround that would contain an opening perfectly sized for the insert. In addition, he could fashion from the granite a shelf above the opening, on which I could place a soundbar. The shelf would block any heat from the insert (if the heater were accidentally turned on), protecting the TV. And the additional cost would not be significant. Of course, along the way, we did encounter some issues, but in every case Ophir was there to address and resolve them. As I write this, the only issue remaining is to hang the television, which is scheduled for next week. I applaud Ophir for his competence, his willingness to engage in our problem-solving, his frequent appearance onsite, his responsiveness, his communication skills (texts and phone calls were numerous), and his pricing. Structural upgrades and cosmetic improvements on a recently purchased duplex. I took many bids from others, including those with high reviewer marks. Decotal Construction was referred to me by a friend and competitively bid on this project. Decotal was also a good fit for my project - I received bids from those who just wanted to do the "big" fixes of what I needed to have done and would not take on all the minor "honey do" fixes. I had others who only bid on the cosmetic work and did not have the breadth of skill needed for all my repairs and upgrades. Decotal can do (and will do) it all. The owner Ophir takes the time to work with you, and is extremely responsive. I am a workaholic and often cannot take time during normal working hours to deal with issues related to this project. Ophir is very accessible and makes sure any questions or issues I may have are promptly addressed. He has helped me greatly in making choices for some of my cosmetic upgrades - I showed him pictures off the internet of things I liked, and he took the time to pre-select samples of materials targeted just to my tastes (and conveniently dropped them off for me) to help me make decisions more quickly. The quality of work is strong - the structural work passes the city inspections and the cosmetic work is visually clean and precisely done. It is very apparent that the work was done by a professional. He and his crews arrive promptly for their work, they keep the work areas relatively tidy, take care to cover and protect areas not part of the construction, and are respectful of the neighbors. He also absorbed many of the small fixes into the bigger project, no extra charge, and worked with me to find creative and cost effective solutions for things unexpectedly uncovered along the way. At the project outset, we worked together to document in detail the scope of work and the payment installments, including how much would be set aside pending final satisfactory completion of the job. He brought his credentials and proof of insurance (saving me the time to go digging for that information), and during the project he carefully went back to that paperwork to clearly document payment installments against completion of certain stages in the project. Scope changes were separately assessed, agreed upon and documented. As unexpected complications were discovered that were part of the agreed upon scope of the project, Ophir handled these and stood by his agreed upon bid.
