We thought that with the new tee boxes deep cliff could be playable... Not impressed with the condition for 15$. You are teeing off of mud

As advertised, a real gem in the middle of residential Cupertino. It's peaceful, and welcoming to beginners and kids too. Yet well maintained. On this Labor Day we finished a foursome in 4 hours, saw a couple of deer, listened to the birdies chirp...a very nice place. P.S. The sandwiches in the Cafe are excellent. read more

Kudos to CARL WHEATLEY for the lesson I had from him at Deep Cliff Golf Course. I've taken MANY golf lessons in my lifetime, some at fancy places, and his was honestly the most practical and directly applicable lesson I've ever had. I've been able to take that instruction session straight to the course. Other lessons I've taken, while very good (and expensive), seemed in retrospect to be drawn out. Carl's teaching style to me was here's what you need right here and now. In one hour, we appropriately touched on irons, the driver and putting! Lastly, he is very personable and encouraging. While I agree this is a nice course for beginners. (whcih i think is the reason why you cannot complain about the slow pace since most beginners play here. I must say the greens are terrible. The fairways are not well kept. Also the rental pull carts they have are beaten to death. Most of the straps didn't work or were cut off. The tee boxes were totally trashed. Deep Cliff is a nice local course. amazing within 3 miles are millions of people. Tucked in the hills it is a very post card looking course. Fun layout. greens are good but tee boxes HAVE major issues! The cafe has nice Craft beer on draft. But they could use a newer TV. Wow circa 1980's read more

This is a great place for the local duffer that wants to hit a bucket down the fairway. The coarse is short, and I mean short. Heck my drive way is longer. But its a nice, well maintained and kept in top notch form. The tees could use some work on a few of the holes. The fairways have the occasional squirrel hole, but are green and offer a nice roll off the tee. The greens are by far the best feature of this track, they roll pretty true for the amount of feet they see per day. They also have a decent cafe for a cold one and a dog if your hungry. The local pro can help you with that duck hook if you need lessons as well. Check It out! read more

I played here today with a few buddies. Good pace of play.didn't have to wait on people. This course its mainly par 3's and par 4's..holes are not too long so walking the course is cool.Clubhouse is not all that great but beer was cold! Il be back.good practice course read more

This course is great for beginners and for practicing short game. The fees are cheap. BUT, and a big but, it is slow on the weekend. You will need lots of beer and/or patience if you play here. The other huge complaint is about the over-zealous marshall that pushed us (4some) to keep up with the 2some in front even though there were 4 holes behind us open. He was very rude. read more

Beautiful course!! My fiance and I went on one of their grand re-opening weekends so it was packed unfortunately. It took us an hour and a half to get to the 4th hole (starting at 6pm in the evening), so that was a bummer. The views and grounds were stunning though and on hole 3 we even got to enjoy an assortment of wild life from dear, to quail, to even cotton tail bunnies. The staff was great as well. We look forward to going back again when it's less crowded so we can enjoy the rest of the course! read more

Ahh, the 18 hole course that should actually be 9... I have to agree with everything that has already been said about this place. Beautiful scenery, but thats about all they have going for them. They like to send out groups too close to each other for some reason, and it always causes problems later in the round. I'll also agree this course has poor drainage. On the few times I've played here, you could see the effects of poor drainage and poor upkeep. Would I ever find myself here again? Maybe...if I was with a group of friends who are trying to transition into golf, and on a day where I think I can just throw 4 clubs into the bag and play... read more

It's a short course but a beautiful one. It feels like walking in a state park with how many trees there are but also the wildlife. The deers simply don't give a damn as if they are inviting you to hit them. The fairways are quite narrow so be careful with your drives, but its a nice short course to help you work out your irons and short game. They have a huge putting green, but what is really unfortunate is their tiny driving range. I never seen a range that is only 40 yrds long with a net. You have no idea if you slice the ball which sucks. Nevertheless, the course is very affordable and a must visit spot for intermediate golfers that want to practice iron shots. read more

I've heard of this course but never played it until this past weekend. Short course. Twilight rate was $28. The front 9 was jammed up a bit but once we hit the back 9, we were cruising right along with no traffic in front of us. This is a very forgiving course and I can appreciate that with my novice golf skills. I took out my driver 3 times. I wish I could have used it more though...but that's another course and another review! read more

Fun course, adds a little "excitement" to the game. Good golf camp too for the young ones.

Small scale golf for a decent price. I suggest wearing an Army helmet instead of your Taylormade visor cuz rocks are flying at you Tiger! The kids that work there are quite douchey but that's expected right?! Grab a Michelob and a sandie at the turn and for God sakes you don't NEED a cart fattie! And let me play thru cuz you suck and I'm sick of watching it!!! read more

fun little course to get out and work on your short game some people come in thinking its a small course and they can hit the big stick and get up and down, but this place plays better with short game mentality. This is a good course. Good for the beginner to the intermediate. They have some good deals. 18 holes. Good place to practice. Course is relatively well-maintained. Does not have a true driving range....just a net...but much better than the one at Blackberry Farm nearby. Would definitely come back again. read more

I really enjoy playing here. Its a 18 hole executive course, but its not that small. Big enough to use a driver on a couple of holes and small enough to walk the entire course. They usually are not packed, so getting a tee time last minute is probable. The staff are always nice and the check - in person at the 1st tee is always friendly and informative. They look like they actually enjoy being at work. Bernard who works at the 1st tee is my favorite. Nicest guy in the world and funny to boot. read more

I went there a couple of times. beautiful scenery, sort-of-difficult holes (trees and little ponds, creeks), but the big problem is most of the holes are too short.. too many 3s, short 4s, and i don't remember if there is a par-5 hole or not. I'm a beginner to intermediate golfer and had my first golf lesson (ever) today with Carl. He is a GREAT instructor. He had a great demeanor and provided to-the-point instruction that yielded some tangible results in my short game almost immediately. I've never had an official golf lesson before and wasn't sure how it would go. Now I understand why a good pro is in high demand... Carl can see flaws in a swing and make recommendations immediately. The lessons are worth every penny and I highly recommend Carl Wheatley. read more

I want to premise my remarks by first saying I'm a beginning golfer, a real bad hacker, but I love the game, and respect the other golfers. I currently like to play nine hole courses in the area allowing me to walk them which has given me some comparison. With regard to Deep Cliff, the staff is courteous, and the club house is clean and pleasant, great place to sit and have something to eat with a beer. The bathrooms are clean, and stocked with soap, and paper towels. As a senior, the fees are very affordable. There is a small driving range with a cage. Unfortunately due to the water shortage the greens could use some TLC. The T's are more sand than turf, the fairways are drying up, and the putting greens could use a little help. However, despite the courses condition, the setting is beautiful with huge redwood trees, and streams meandering through the course. With a lot of par 3 & 4's on the front nine, I love how challenging the course is, so prepare to lose a ball or two. And after the renovation in August I'm looking forward to returning to play the course again. What I didn't care for while trying to finish my chipping, and putting, some younger people behind me were teeing off. I have not experienced that at Santa Teresa, Los Lagos, or the Rancho Del Pueblo Golf courses. This happened more than once, and I attribute it to the staff at the club not reminding younger people regarding the etiquette, and safety of respecting the other golfers trying to finish up on the course. Unfortunately there is always going to be a few bad apples in the bunch out on the course with an entitlement attitude of me first. However despite that one glitch, I plan on returning and giving the course another chance, I mean lets face it, when it comes to golf, and golf courses, I would play in the desert if I had to, I would just hope the golfers behind me had slow camels. read more

I am a 40 year old beginner golfer. I was lucky enough to have Carl Wheatly as my golf instructor. He was patient, specific yet not overwhelming in his instruction, and sociable. He definitely had the style and demeanor that has caused me to want to continue to golf. In addition to Carl, the Deep Cliff staff was kind and efficient. I have been a golfer for the past five years and wanted to improve my skills, so I took a few lessons at Deep Cliff with Carl Wheatley and they were fabulous! Carl took the time to explain and demostrate exactly what I needed to do to improve my swing. Immediately, I was able to send the ball straight and in the air, just through his careful instruction. On my second lesson, he gave me the option if i wanted to play on the course or practice at the range. I opted for the course and gained valuable insight to improve my chipping, because Carl showed me how to hold my club and alter my weight distribution. I ended up landing the ball in the hole! My game has improved significantly, thanks to Carl and a great course to practice! read more

one of the few executive courses in the area which is meant for a quick round of golf. but i played on a fri early afternoon and it was packed, not to mention some people were just learning to play golf here. i left early even before the turn as it was becoming a five hour round. bad luck on my part but 2 stars because the tee boxes were incredibly beat up, patches of dirt all around the greens and on fairways, and velcro like greens. read more

45 mins delay teeing off 1st hole. So backed up it took 20 to 30 min wait to play on each hole. Groups would just stand around in bunches waiting to play each hole. Stopped after 9 holes, which took over 4 hours to play - it was a joke, but not very funny. Whoever manages the course clearly knows that they completely overbook the course - the guy that checked us in told us they were surprised that "everyone showed up". Only for beginners and children. Tees are in very bad shape. They ran out of hand carts. Net-net, a complete waste of time - will never play there again. read more

Went there with some friends, not knowing too much about golf and this place was a great place to learn. I liked it a lot!

This is a very nice course for the beginner to scratch golfer. The course provides a challenge with some narrow fairways, Stevens Creek running through it as water hazards, a couple fairways lined with tall trees, even animals crossing your address from the natural habitat. You feel like you are out in the country with minimal vehicle noise from the close-by freeways. The tee boxes could use more grass as sand and soil made it sometimes a task to set a proper footing when you are at address. The greens are well kept and golfers seem to keep with etiquette when repairing divots and walking by on adjacent holes. The staff is nice at the clubhouse, however a marshal had seemed to make our group move along farther in the back nine because he felt we slow-played. He did however comeback to us after advancing rather quickly through the next hole and seemed to apologize to us for making us feel that way (apparently the group behind us was actually sowing two other groups behind them). Deep Cliff''s website is a nice touch with advice of how to approach the course which actually prepared me for the round (no driver needed if you follow fundamentals). A pull cart can help you relax while taking a full 18-hole round. Overall, my experience was great for my first outing. It was the first of more future rounds for me. read more

Played on Monday. Good time with friends, but if you are a serious golfer, don't bother. A rather lousy pitch and putt.

This course is kind of hard to find, it takes a little patience to follow the directions there, and is for goflers of various calibres. The course itself is not overlong and does allow for scoring by players on any level. Well - kept and does not have the rowdy antics of some similar courses in the clubhouse; there was some noise from the first tee area where the hitting cages are for practice, and this was audible for some time after beginning our round. read more

We got to play 8 holes for 12$. Nice course. Starting Marshall said we all needed a bag, when the front desk told us we could consolidate. So that took about 10 minutes to figure out. Finally got to playing. We play pretty decent ( 4 of us ) we are hitting about 4-5 per hole. The people in back of us never were waiting behind on us. We were going at a pretty good pace. Out of nowhere the Marshall comes up to us and pretty much tells us that we suck, and we shouldn't be playing on this course. He tells us to skip the 8th hole. So we do. ( nobody was behind us ). We finish the 9th hole ( while my friend hit a 35 yard chip ) and I hit a 20 yard putt, and he comes up to us again. This time he states " I've been playing golf a long Time, you should start at the driving range ( mind you we are all hitting 150+ yards a drive ) , and says we should play best ball? This was coming out of no where. And I replied " how are we ever gonna practice if you keep coming up to us, I'll spend my money else where next time" he obviously didn't like us for some reason, i probably won't be returning here read more

my friends and i graduated from the 9 holes and started out at this executive 18 a few weeks ago, and i gotta say, i LOVE playing here. short enough to walk and i can finally hit my driver on more than one or two holes at a typical nine. greens are in decent shape but the tee boxes take some beating from hackers :p never really had a problem booking tee times but it seems like they book times a little too closely together b/c there always seems to be a wait at the first tee box. usually around the 4th or 5th hole everybody falls into their own rythmn and keeps pace. some water hazards and lots of sand bunkers (which my ball always seems attracted to) make it an interesting course to play. recommend to anyone starting out who wants something more challenging than sunken or blackberry. read more

I worked with Carl Wheatley today for only about 20-30 minutes, and I'm hitting the ball more pure than I ever have in my entire life! Carl wasn't afraid to overload me with lots of things for me to thing about, because he understood very quickly that I really wanted to understand the mechanics of my swing. We worked on better takeaway, wider athletic stance, shorter backswing, choke down 1/2" on club, and most important of all weight transfer. Although this was a lot to grasp, he made it crystal clear that more important than anything else was weight transfer in my swing. I went to the range tonight and worked on the drills carl showed me and everything just started to click, one after the other. I feel like a mich better ball striker after just 20 minutes with Carl. I was so thrilled that I actually left a few balls at the range because I felt like I couldn't hit the ball ANY cleaner even if I hit another 100 balls. I highly highly recommend Carl Wheatley for any golfer at any stage of his/her guy. His multi-pack lessons are the best deal and you can walk away knowing that your money was well spent! read more

Not a golf review, I am not a golfer. Go there for lunch (DC Tap House) and the food is very reasonably priced and of very good quality; portions generous. Six or so draught microbrewery beers, good variety. Bottled beers and small collection of hard liquor. My favorite is the lean pastrami sandwich with either coleslaw or French fries. Great value. Personnel are very efficient, friendly and courteous. Walls lined with LCDs featuring sports. read more

This is a beautifully designed course that is being ruined by major overuse and inept maintenance. We spent most of our time waiting to play as the course was packed. Typically, there were 2-3 other foursomes queued up at every hole. It was truly painful. Maintenance on the course is horrible. Many of the walkways have deep puddles of water. Mud holes abound. read more

I'd give this place a 0 if I could. Absolutely the worst conditions for a golf course I've ever seen. No grass on tee boxes, they are like unraked bunkers,. "Fairways" are 90% mud / bare dirt, greens with lots of holes from some sort of fungus. They still charge full rate, $38 to walk for this goat track. Huge rip off. read more
