This is for the Cedar Park location. I am only giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 since Chloe did a great job correcting my awful haircut, which was done by another stylist in the salon. My experience was terrible from the start. I had an appointment booked with Melanie (the owner) for months only to be informed a week before the appointment that they have to cancel it with her because she wasn't accepting new clients. I was also told that Melanie keeps spots open for existing clients which means my appointment that I had booked for months was unfairly given away to someone else through no fault of my own. I thought that this was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I was put with another stylist who I was told was supposed to be super 'talented'. Even though I was upset that they canceled my appointment with Melanie (I had researched for a while which stylist I wanted) I agreed to have this new stylist do my hair and boy oh boy how I regret agreeing to this. The stylist totally butchered my hair! I had super long thick hair and she cut off 11-12 inches of my hair without my permission even though I asked for a trim and not a full on transformation. On top of that, the cut was super uneven and chopped really bluntly with no care at all. I showed her at least three times the exact length I wanted and I also told her that I am not adventurous with cutting my hair and didn't want to cut too much off. She reassured me that she would first cut off less and show me before she cut any more off- but she never did so. At first I was shocked to see how short my hair was but when I got home I just wanted to cry when I saw how uneven and choppy it looked. The haircut was weird overall with random lengths throughout my hair and the underneath bit of my hair was shorter than the top. Even my friends and family were shocked at how such a supposedly reputable salon would have stylists who cut hair so badly. I could have done a way better job myself and I have no hairdressing experience! It was honestly the worst haircut I've ever had. Luckily Chloe was able to even my hair out and she was lovely to chat to and was super friendly. However, I'm still sad at how much shorter my hair is- it's not what I wanted and now I have to wait a long time for it to grow out. I don't understand why this salon has so many good reviews. The customer service is very poor and they only seem to care about their existing clients. That is no way to run a business. The prices are not cheap for the quality hair cut I received at $75. All in all it was a very disappointing experience. read more

Then I stumble upon deep roots and get introduced to Cassie. 1. She's incredibly easy to talk to 2. She listens and really tries to understand what you're looking to achieve. For example, in the spring I asked for sun kissed balayage- and the result was this beautiful color with so much dimension. My hair looked like it spent a month in bora bora. In the fall, I asked for a reddish tint. And she delivered this gorgeous but subtle hue that made for the perfect season transition. Cassie is a hair angel sent from the heavens. Today I arrived at 11:23 for my 11:30 hair appointment. I am meticulous about appointments and don't believe in the last 30 years I have EVER been late or missed one. At any rate, the receptionist told me that my appointment was for 11:00 and they only allowed for a 15-minute late arrival. I was flabbergasted since I had 11:30 written in three appointment calendars. She showed me, however, that the confirmation they sent me said 11:00. They had clearly stated their rules and I had broken them. She was clearly right. (Although I harbor many questions about whether the appointment was changed from the original booking...but the confirmation did say 11:00) BUT, what i would suggest is that if you are a HUMAN BEING and you have ever made a slight error, this is NOT the salon for you. They are harsh, inflexible, and unquestionably interested in RULES not PEOPLE. As a doctor, I have made far more allowances for patient errors in my schedule than these hair dressers can make for their clients. read more

DO NO COME IF YOU HAVE CURLY HAIR. I went in asking for a curly specialist to get a cut and lighten my hair. I recently moved to Texas and I've been looking for a new curly stylist. My person in Los Angeles is incredible. I heard great things about the salon and wanted to test it out. I ended up leaving with white streaks in my hair and the texture being very rough and damaged. My pattern has not been the same since. I just went back to my stylist in Los Angeles and he told me that Deep Roots tried to put bleach on top of already blonde hair, which left my hair patchy. I wanted a very natural Sunkissed look instead I got money pieces and white streaks. Afterwards they styled my hair and it looked like just thrown some water on and shook around for 10 minutes with all the frizz and lack of curl definition. I went home right after and re did it myself and was late to the event I was getting my hair done for. The lady doing my hair also asked me how I got my hair to the color is was and if I used bleach, I told her no my normal guy just uses color and she said that was not possible and proceeded to use bleach on my hair, which turns out is not correct, and left my hair feeling brittle. I knew something was wrong towards the end of the foil session because I pulled one of them back after sitting there for what felt like way too long and saw pure white. Luckily they were able to calm it down with some toner but still, this should not be done and it's absolutely unacceptable. If you can't handle curly hair, just say it and don't take on a job you can't handle. read more

I had an appointment today and when I walked in, I was shocked to see that 95% of the staff weren't wearing masks and most of the customers weren't either, after CDC said we should wear masks indoors, even if vaxxed. Deep Roots required me to sign a waiver that says I have not been around anyone with covid, show no covid symptoms and that I won't hold them responsible for getting covid if I get it there. Yet no one in there was following the CDC advice that we must wear masks indoors now. Why is it that we must prove to them we have been safe, but we can't ask the same of them to prove to us that THEY are safe? Thats not how Covid works. With hairdryers and the close proximity in this small salon, it would be hard to mitigate my risk as the only masked one in there. Deep Roots claims to be a "education" based salon. Deep Roots needs to learn about educating themselves about Covid, stop coddling the unmasked, and the unwilling to get vaxxed. There is nothing educational about not following CDC guidelines and putting their customers at risk, even vaccinated. I don't know why we, the vaccinated, have to be punished when we are doing our job to keep society safe, while the unvaxxed and unmasked are partying like its 1999 and creating more dangerous variants and act like their freedoms are at risk. yet everyone panders to them! I am done giving my money to businesses who don't take this stuff seriously. We lost our father to covid and its a slap in the face to everyone who has lost a love one to this awful virus. The front desk girl told me "they haven't decided yet what to do about masks yet". Which took me a minute to bite my tongue not to go full blast. Had it been my biz, I would have sent an email out to everyone telling folks "Mask Up!" It's not that hard. Stop coddling folks who are the root of the problem. If you are concerned with your health and safety of others, look for another salon. I don't care how talented people are, a haircut is not worth getting sick over. Edited to add: after calling MANY places to discover that a lot of salons are not requiring masks, I FINALLY found one that requires everyone to wear masks and freely admit they're vaxxed! What a breath of fresh air. Edited to ADD: In response to the owner's response, what a load of BS. You require ME to prove I am taking precautions (which people lie all the time!) you also are not proving to me your STAFF is taking precautions as well? Masks are a better way! Why can't I require my beauty providers to be safe, vaxxed and masked? Covid is a two way street. And this response, from the owner proves my point. read more

Lauren agreed to squeeze me in the following day to correct her mistakes -- I left the salon with DRIPPING WET hair. Hair dye was dripping all over my clothes and my car seats. After each visit I was satisfied with the look my stylist achieved... I regularly did color and hand tied extensions with each appointment, and she did this very well. However, she didn't come to the table with an opinion or any specialized recommendations for me specifically (i.e., a service or product recommendation based on concerns I had or a look I wanted to achieve). Overall, the salon feels very mechanical, and the customers are cogs - there is no unique connection or assessment provided. Also, the one time I had balayage done at the salon, I had significant damage because the bleach was left on too long. I have never had damage to my hair in all my years of getting my hair done - this was not my first-time using bleach. On top of that my stylist never even told me there was damage. She put my extensions back in (which covered the damage), and I discovered the damage when I was back home. When I went back (thinking it was an honest mistake), my stylist didn't apologize and take ownership of the mistake or make any recommendations to help minimize the damage or next steps. I went to another salon to assess my options. I had 7 inches cut off my hair to have healthy looking hair again. I will never go back to the Deep Roots. They are good at their niche but have very mediocre customer service and interactions - especially for the price tag. read more

When I first moved to Austin I had a disaster of over processed bleach on top of nearly black store bought hair dye (I'm a natural dark blonde). It was so awful, but Mandy gave me a life changing color correction and now I wouldn't trust anyone else. I always go for balayage but she can literally do anything!! I recently moved to Austin and needed a new hairstylist for a subtle balayage and cut revamp on my hair. Deep Roots has an easy online appointment request portal and I was contacted within an hour to setup and confirm my appointment. I don't get my hair done often so I typically rely on my stylist for some guidance and I was thankful my stylist, Amanda, was able to provide great insight on what would work best for my hair. I explained my goals and typical hair habits and she took it from there. I got a balayage and simple trim/cut and it turned out amazing, it was exactly what I wanted. As far as price, I would say it's pretty typical for Austin. I paid $325+Tip for my services. I've been quoted much higher for the same services in the past so I was happy with the price, especially with the outcome of my hair. If you're looking for a new salon, this is a great choice! I followed Erin to Deep Roots from another salon, and I'm so glad I followed my instincts! I'm never great at communicating what I want, but she always puts together my jumbled thoughts and random photos. I feel like she understands the texture of my hair and how low maintenance I want the style to be, and I always love the result! She corrected my over balayaged hair that had gone ombré. She also gave me a layered cut that I can air dry but still put in a ponytail. She's also easy to talk to and just generally awesome. Not to mention the price was much lower than I expected! The salon is really easy to schedule with, and I love that they do an express toner for a low price so I can refresh my color more often than I used to! I also left a product I purchased, and they have politely stayed on me to remind me (but I still haven't picked it up....oops.) Anyways, highly recommend! All positive experiences here! read more

THIS SALON ALSO NEEDS A LESSON ON BACK HANDED COMPLIMENTS. Oh and they don't do eyebrows here but fantastic Sams does! I came here bc it's a 5 star salon with so many reviews. I had a consult and explained repeatedly two things - 1. LONG Bob 2. NO SHORT HAIR I HATE SHORT HAIR. The hairstylist had 5 years experience (apparently) and BUTCHERED my hair. I cried all day. I had 12 whole inches to play with and her first cut was up to my chin. WHAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO AFTER THAT?! $70 to get totally shotty work. And wasn't listened to. Let's move on from the length - let's talk about the actual cut. Stylist also tried an asymmetrical Bob on me and told me I'm too OLD for layers after I suggested them.. ?? I'm literally 29. It looked like a lawn mower cut my hair at the ends I'm also over weight and self conscious about my rounder face. Every time I would mention me being overweight this salon says "NO you're beautiful!" WHAT A BACKHANDED COMPLIMENT. I KNOW IM BEAUTIFUL but just like clothing fits you a certain way so does your hair. If I said "I have a big forehead. I look better in bangs." Would you say "NOO you're beautiful." Everyone was extremely friendly and made sure I was taken care of from beginning to end. Definitely book an appointment with Robert for color and cut! In all of my 30+ years of getting highlights, I've had the best balayage/foilyage with Lo Davis at the Cedar Park location. Asian hair is tricky. Most of the time, our dark brown hair turns orange and requires multiple trips and processing. By the time it gets to a nice blonde, I've gone through many moments of frustration and panic attacks with having to live with orange hair for months after failed attempts. Not with Lo! After growing my hair out for 1.5 years, I came to Lo with dark brown/black virgin hair and within 3 hours from start to finish, I came out with the exact balayage highlights that I wanted while still keeping my roots dark for low maintenance.
