My family was in McLeansboro last week for my grandparents memorial. It wasn't the easiest trip but Deep South added a little extra warmth to our stay. We ordered several sandwiches to pick up for dinner and the restaurant called a few minutes later to let us know they were out of the particular kind of meat we ordered and asked us if there was anything else we would like. When we got there to pick up the order, the lady told us the sandwiches were on the house and refused to take our money. Thank you for your hospitality and generosity Deep South!! 1 Star because when we first started coming here--the food and service were EXCELLENT. Anymore when we come it's a "hit or miss". Tonight we had to wipe our own table because our waitress was distracted and couldn't stay on task. I get that Fish Fry Friday is a busy night, but there was plenty of staff standing around that could have jumped in and helped! Our corn nuggets were raw in the middle, fries were cold and I'm pretty sure I pee hotter than our fish was. In a place with pretty limited options it's great to have a hometown favorite like Deep South. So far I've stuck with the classics and haven't been disappointed. I have a feeling with this place I'll eventually try everything on the menu... why not! read more

I had seen the posts on Facebook many times and never had the opportunity to try this place until last night. I went there with my sister and mother, and we proceeded to order the 16 ounce ribeye special. The salads came out quickly and were fresh and very good. The steaks took a while to come out, and when they did, the meat was barely lukewarm. This was very disappointing to say the least the waitress ask how everything was and we told her about the temperature of the steaks and she basically didn't seem to care. Two of the steaks were supposed to be cooked medium and mine was ordered medium rare. Mine was received medium well. We found out later my mother received the medium rare steak. Very disappointing to drive 30 minutes and order a $29.00 steak and it's barely warm and not cooked as you ordered it. We paid our bill and left. This place is delicious!! Small town, pop owned. True Red blooded American food! Pulled pork is deicious, Pizza is even greater. Staff is wonderful and checks on you frequently. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for a while now. I had the Mailman burger with peanut butter, jelly, bacon, Sriracha and pepper jack cheese. Absolutely delicious and worth every calorie! read more

Fish was awesome- crisp, hot, not-greasy. Baked beans with BBQ were a favorite. Very pleased Other food items all looked good too. Fish only on Fridays. read more

This was our first time here. The service was outstanding and the portions very generous & beer ice cold!!

Pretty good food. They were out of froglegs when we were there. But the pulled pork sandwich and bbq beans were really good. The coleslaw tasted weird to us but it may just be the recipe. Oh odd tidbit, the sign says they buy American but the hot sauce on the table is made in Mexico. Lol read more

Place was clean service was a bit slow took 22 minutes before someone came and took order went for chicken but was told they sold out really didn't want pizza had cheeseburger and fries wasn't bad nothing to write home about wife had pizza it was again nothing to write home about much better pizza just down the street had no soda read more

This place has great barbecue in McLeansboro Illinois. If you want good ribs, good pulled pork, or anything else that is good BBQ This is the place to go. The next best place is in Benton called Pops. Other than here I guess your next best bet is to Dairy Queen.....! read more
