Granted, I went in to order a cake at the last minute for my daughter's impromptu birthday dinner. The manager took my order, and he did not seem like he wanted to help me at all. Definitely made me feel bad for putting in a rush order. I paid for the cake at the time of order. The person who picked up the cake was given a hard time stating it was not paid for until finally it was resolved. The cake cost well over $100. It was such crap work. You couldn't even read the message it was so terribly written. Not only was it terrible looking on the outside, it tasted terrible too. It was so dry and too sweet. If they did not want to do my order, and do it well, they should've just said no. I submitted a complaint on their website and never heard back. I have refused to shop or order from them in the future. Much better bakeries out there. read more

I have been shopping at the one in Buffalo Grove and Schaumburg for many years. We even bought my daughters wedding cake here. Today I went in to pickup some pastries to take to work and to get my free jumbo cupcake for my birthday. First off I had to ask for service. I asked for the cupcake and was told by a very rude woman, who turned out to be the manager, that they didn't have them at the moment. In the past I have always been given 2 small ones. She said no and I should come back. Needless to say, I didn't buy anything. It is sad to see the decline in this bakery. The customer service is non existent. There are other bakeries to go to. We always get cakes and cheesecake from here for birthday lunches at work. Gross cakes! The frosting tastes bland and horrible the cake itself isn't moist and the decorations are just decent. Just went to birthday party on Saturday for my granddaughter. Her birthday cake was spectacular in taste and looks. I love chocolate so this was a winner. The insides was chocolatey cake with custard and butter cream filling. The outside decoration was the first to go, that's how perfect it was for a wonderful granddaughter. TERRIBLE, unprofessional and rude customer service!! Our business just moved into the area in January and we established an account shortly thereafter. Early in Septmeber, placed a big order, about a week in advance, for 90 people (their Schaumburg location is just 3 miles away!) and they couldn't honor a reasonable time. I won't go into everything said and the rediculous options given. The lady I placed the order with (I'll withhold her name to be respectful) was unpleasant and I nearly hung up on her! To sum it up ---they have larger orders and ours was too small to matter (small? 90 people?) When I said it seems I may have to order elsewhere, she said --well you may just have to do that! WHAT!?!! This was the third time we ordered and will be the last! They also screwed up this order and failed to deliver a few items. One of our staff went to pick it up on her lunch break. That said, their food is DEEEELICIOUS. Customer service will spoil it! Not surprised they have only 3.5 stars. Jarosch Bakery is close by and we receive EXCELLENT, friendly service in every way. They will be receiving more in lieu of Deerfields. read more

Went here the other day for the first time. I was really impressed by the array of baked goods and sweets! What I did not appreciate was the extremely rude cashier and terrible service. I walked in hoping to pick up a donut and coffee. I grabbed a donut and waited at the counter under a sign that included speciality drinks, iced coffee, etc. I waited a few minutes for a girl to ask if I needed help. She said I could get iced coffee at the check-out counters and they only did espresso drinks at her counter. I said ok and sorry, I was confused because it included iced coffee on the sign right above her. I walk over to the register with my donut, wait a few minutes again and ask the male cashier for an iced coffee to go. He looks at me expressionless and says "we don't have iced coffee." I asked him if he was kidding and pointed to the sign above him again very confused. He said very rudely "what did I just say?" Really? You say that to a customer? Clearly, I heard you, but excuse me for thinking this was a big joke. He continued on after I took a step back from the counter a little bit now pretty ticked off saying their espresso machine is broken so they don't have anything iced. No "sorry" or "unfortunately." Instead I get, "what did I just say." I was really taken aback and offended. I would have even taken a hot coffee if there was no iced coffee, but certainly not with his attitude. He's lucky I still bought a donut. Delicious donut, but I certainly won't be recommending this place! read more

I am a very dissatisfied customer. I've been to Deerfields Bakery a handful of times and I really enjoy your sweets and coffee. I was really excited to get Sweets for an event and decided to get a head start on my day and get to the Buffalo Grove location by the time they opened. I looked at your website and saw that you open at 6:00am on Saturdays. When we arrived at the Buffalo Grove location at 6:00am, it was closed!! We had to sit in the car for over an hour in the cold weather because your website says that you are open at 6:00am and you are not. There was no point in me going home because it took 20 minutes to get here. I am very dissatisfied and disappointed. You should fix your business hours considering that while we sat in the car for an hour, you had multiple other potential customers thinking that your bakery was open at 6:00am as well. read more

Bought few individual slices of three different cakes and an oat wheat bread. The cake slices were stale and hard like anything. The icing was more like 5X shot of sugar with no taste. Threw all of them into trash. Bread was almost stale and kept breaking. Do yourself a favor and go to a real bakery store. read more

Had a cake for my sons birthday which he loves their cake. This time it was awful the cake had no flavor and the frosting wasn't very good either( buttercream. ) the positive it was a cute cake . I did call and tell them but their policy is to bring in any leftover cake for a refund. Of course we didn't keep the bad cake. We used Deerfield for breakfast at my business meeting this morning. The quiches were wonderful and the coffee cakes outstanding. In the past we have used local chain places, but i work for a small business, and thought, why the heck are we using big chain places instead of local? So we used Deerfield, ironically, our bill was 40% less than what it usually is with the chain places, and the attendees were very touched that we went out of our way to provide an over the top breakfast. I plan on using them as much as possible for any event that I plan. When my sister and brother in law were visiting from Michigan, they wanted a good fast authentic Chicagoland breakfast, we went to Deerfield in BG, and they were so impressed. they said "this should be on that Rachel Ray show "$40 a day"" ! read more

I had been a customer of Deerfields for years. A while back I felt the customer service and quality had really gone down hill. After THREE disappointments I stopped ordering and have been searching for a few years. This past weekend we had a very important family event - our first wedding shower in the immediate family. Reluctantly I went back to Deerfields and tried the Buffalo Grove location instead of Schaumburg. I had the pleasure of working with Cassie. She was amazing and made me remember the Deerfields I had loved and counted on for so many years. To my great pleasure not only was she a delight in store, but my delivery went perfect and the product exceeded my expectations. Custom colored frosting to my exact specifications on 6 dozen cookies. 3 cakes made to absolute perfection. This was an extravagant order and well worth every minute of time and every dollar spent. This is a fancy, upscale bakery that I don't quite get the draw. It looks great inside, but I've been here multiple times and don't think it's worth the price tag. Sure, if you have family in town and want to impress them with a beautiful bakery, this is the place. However, the food was nothing special and very expensive. Had lunch on a weekday at the bakery in the cafe. I had the roast turkey sandwich and my husband had the quesadillas. Both were great, the turkey sandwich was on the softest bun and fries were crispy on the outside delicious on the inside. Husband enjoyed his quesadillas. We have been long time customers of Deerfield Bakery. Our son is allergic to nuts, so when we ordered his birthday cake we explicitly told them to make it nut free. We were told that they do not/will not put any nuts in the cake, but they can not guarantee that the surroundings will be nut free. Extremely transparent and we liked it till we got the cake. To our horror the carrot cake was completely full of walnuts. Thankfully as we were cutting the cake we noticed it and made sure we tasted it before giving it to him otherwise a birthday celebration would have turned into a hospital visit. Bought some X-mas cookies based on previous years, the butter cookies were tasteless!!! like eating plaster. Attempted to return them the girl said I had 24 hours to return them and I said where does it say that, she replied on the bottom the receipt. I had thrown it out, and not knowing the return policy is on the bottom. Crappy! Also the selection of cookies has decreased, they used to have chocolate covered oreos amongst other varieties. I have been a customer of Deerfields first in Deerfield, and now in Buffalo Grove for 30 YEARS. We have ordered every birthday cake and even my daughter's wedding cake from this bakery, and we have always loved it. There has been a management change, and not for the better. No one greets you, and in fact they seem to avoid eye contact. They have drastically cut back on pastry selection. Instead they have expanded the café. I stopped in to pick up a variety of pastries today, and was very disappointed-no Napoleons, carrot cake squares, or eclairs. I was told they will not be making them any longer. If you want a brownie, cupcake, or lemon square, you are in luck. I will not be back. read more

Went in for the third time (during my lunch hour) and can't believe the lack of preparedness for them. Two people at a register and the line 12-15 deep. Couldn't get anyone to wait on me at the bakery counter so I left. Also, why don't they put something up showing that the drive thru is no longer available. They manage to get signs up to protect their parking from funerals next door. Why do they allow individuals to do the drive all the way to the building to find out it isn't available. I think it would be great if they put as much time into servicing their clients as they do their product. The product is great. The service isn't. read more

It had been a while since I've been to Deerfield's. I forgot how fricken good it was. They have this awesome display in the middle of the bakery with all these pastries you can choose from. Grab a piece of tissue paper, and take the ones you want. I grabbed a chocolate thing, it was screaming at me to take it. I wrapped it in the tissue and waited for my friend to finish ordering from the counter. I couldn't take it anymore, my fat started to taunt me. I unwrapped the chocolate thing and stuffed my face. It was the greatest thing I have ever tasted. (Besides chipotle, of course...) In addition to the deliciousness Deerfield's has to offer, their customer service is great!
