We discussed the general details (size, theme, flavors, shape, etc.) over the phone, and I was then provided with a phone number to text additional information and reference pictures. CUSTOMIZATION I sent 3 cake pictures as references to the phone number, and explained which elements I want from each cake. Also, I wanted a heart-shaped cake instead of a round one. I was very picky, I admit, but the team was incredibly accommodating and happy to fulfill ALL my wishes - big and small. I also sent 3 more pictures of characters I wanted to add, and yet again, they accommodated. TRANSPARENCY The communication was so easy and clear. I inquired about the price at our first meeting, and was told that all added decorations are included. (The price would have only changed if I had added another tier, changed the size, or made any other dramatic changes.) This was amazing. I was able to tell them all my detailed wishes, and I never once feared about the final price, since their communication was so clear. OVERALL This is a great business to support and order from. I was very picky in what I wanted for my cake, and they were able to match it perfectly. All my guests loved the cake - looks and taste. And it tasted as good the following days. The employee, Tim, told me they had 6 vanilla and 6 chocolate vegan cupcakes available. I requested 4 chocolate cupcakes, and he said I would need to prepay and that they would be ready in 15 minutes. I was surprised they could be prepared that quickly, but went along with it. We picked them up about 30 minutes later and brought them home. That evening, my son tried one and it was extremely hard, with grainy frosting. Overall, the cupcake tasted terrible. We didn't eat the remaining three and left them in the box. The next day, I returned to the shop to share my concerns and was told Tim would call me back. He did call and said they had tried a cupcake and felt it tasted fine. He also told me that I may not know what vegan cupcakes taste like. I didn't argue, but I've had plenty of vegan desserts before, and they've never been this inedible. He then explained that the batter used was leftover from a cake made a week earlier and that it's common practice for them to freeze batter and make cupcakes later. I was surprised to hear this. More disappointing was that there was no attempt to make things right or offer any solution--only to explain why they wouldn't provide a refund. I told him that was fine, but that I wouldn't be returning or recommending their shop and would be sharing my experience. Recently, we had ordered a small cake from the Deerfields Bakery in Buffalo Grove, and really loved it.   A few days ago, while I was in the Deerfield area, I decided to stop by the Deerfield location for the first time in at least five or six years. This bakery has gone through a nice renovation. It is clean, bright, modern, and pleasant, just like the one in Buffalo Grove, except that it is a lot smaller.  Since it was after 4:00 pm when I went, within an hour of closing, some of the shelves were already empty, which is understandable and probably a good sign for the business. Out of nostalgia, I purchased a big smiley face cookie for $3.95.   The girl who helped me was very polite and friendly even though I was just purchasing one cookie.  That made the visit even more pleasant.  However, I would likely get some other baked goods instead next time, as this cookie and its icing were quite hard, and just tasted like a lot of sugar. I am deducting one star mostly because of the parking situation.  There are only four parking spaces by the building, once these spaces are occupied, customers have to walk to the parking lot in the back that's diagonal from the bakery, and cross a busy driveway shared with a bank.  This can be especially inconvenient when carrying a cake. Since the Buffalo Grove location is much larger and has its own parking lot that makes parking easy, I will most likely continue going to the Buffalo Grove location unless I happen to be in the Deerfield area.

The signature chocolate donut barely tastes like chocolate anymore, and whatever chocolate is there feels cheaper and thinner than it used to be. The birthday cake donut? Honestly tasted like an Entenmann's donut--fine, but nothing special and definitely not bakery-worthy. The prices are still decent, but I'd gladly pay a little more if it meant bringing back the old recipes and higher-quality ingredients. This place built its reputation on standout baked goods, and right now the donuts just aren't living up to that legacy.
