The main counter had two registers in the center with bagel options on one side and deli options on the other. They had fresh selections in the cases, to-go fridges filled with cream cheese/soup, and to-go shelves of prepackaged bagels and bread. My husband and I visited to enjoy fresh bagels. I was thoroughly impressed by the bagel flavors and saw ones I hadn't seen before (french onion, rye, pretzel, etc). I got the Rye bagel with chive cream cheese. I really enjoyed the flavor profile and would highly recommend it! My husband got the All Season bagel with Lox Spread. Everything was high quality for ingredients, fresh, and delicious. Also, the prices here were very reasonable. If the bagels were this good, I can only imagine how good their other items are! read more

A friend of mine introduced me to this place 30 years ago. Although I don't live close by, I still head up there whenever I have a taste for lox and bagels and other deli specialties. They are pretty popular so it can get crowded, especially on weekend mornings and lunchtime. In addition to their to-go deli offerings, you can also order breakfast and lunch items, and there is ample space for dining in. On this occasion, I did both, I ate a tasty breakfast burrito at the table, then picked up my deli items to go. I especially like the high quality Nova lox they have on hand. It always seems fresh and without discoloration. I don't really care about the price, when I want it, I get it. I usually buy three days worth, along with the cheeses spreads and bagels. The potato salad, and deli pickles are also excellent. Although the service is friendly, I recommend that you double check your order. I'm always on the lookout for quality delicatessens in the Chicagoland area. Unfortunately, there aren't many left! But I was very pleased with my experience at this place, and would highly recommend it to anyone. They have a great selection of meats, smoked fish, and breads. I will preface this review by stating that I do not like cold deli meats. I typically do not order cold deli sandwiches. That said, I was starving when I arrived and the menu is too big with too many options. The woman at the register was friendly but not helpful with making a selection. So without really realizing it, I ordered a specialty sandwich that contains 3 types of cold cut meats. I added mayo, lettuce, and tomato. The sandwich was massive and cost $17. It was dry and cold and lacking in flavor. I found spicy mustard and that helped me to at least finish the meat from one half of the sandwich. I brought the other half home. I'm sure they probably have some better tasting menu options but I don't live close enough to give them another try. read more

Outstanding! While out traveling to a mall south from our home we planned to visit this deli. We knew they were going to close soon so we went ahead and called in our order. 1 ea BD's BBQ Brisket with coleslaw, 1 ea Lon's Turkey Reuben with potato salad and 1 ea Ally's Double Grilled Cheese with potato chips and an order of the Original Latke Fries. Crazy that my husband added 1 of everything else before we left. Just kidding, he did purchase 6 bagels and two containers of cream cheese. Once my hubby was finished paying and ran to the washroom I asked what they recommend. The gentleman said the Matzo Ball Soup and proceeded to bring a to go container out to show me then wrapped it nicely and sent it home with us. The Buffalo Grove location was getting a sign installed so proceed with caution upon entry in the event that is still going on. Just inside the door to the right in a table with multiple items on display for sale and some booths just behind that. Just ahead and to the right is the deli items displayed in the cooler, ahead and to the left is the register. Just around the corner to the left is the bakery items. On the left is more seating and appears there is also a room that can hold large groups. There is nothing we purchased that we did not enjoy. And that Matza Ball Soup was delicious as well. Would certainly return for some of that! One thing I would suggest would be offering the BBQ Brisket sandwich with coleslaw on it would be a great option. My hubby and I both ate ours with the coleslaw on it. Would have had more for a side as well. A must check out if you're in the area! read more

Lovingly called "The deli by Jewel", by my family and I, Original Bagel & Bialy is truly the best! This is your staple neighborhood deli where you can always rely on a warm bowl of matzo ball soup, a delicious lox and bagel sandwich, or a tasty fried matzah! When I grew up in the 50's and 60's in the city there were very good Jewish delis all over Chicago. Today not so much. Original Bagel and Bialy is one of the better ones around. My wife and I stopped by for lunch recently. Nancy had a corned beef on rye and I ordered a pastrami on rye with a slice of Swiss cheese. My wife wanted her corned beef sliced extra thin which they did. The sandwiches were PERFECT!! We stopped by just before closing so it would have been understandable if the bread was too dry or the meat not hot but we both felt these sandwiches could not be improved upon. They were great! Even the sides of potato salad and the pickle slices were extra tasty. Kudos to a great Jewish deli, long may they prosper. read more

Got the belly lox and bagel and it was incredibly salty and struggled to finish it. I couldn't tell if it was the everything bagel or lox that was so salty so I tried them separately and they were both salty but the lox was by far the saltiest, like they pulled the lox out of brine. Definitely, the worst lox and bagel I have had. I would come back to try something else just not lox. read more

We were searching for different bagel spots near our house and found good reviews for Original Bagel & Billy. We decided to give it a try for lunch and picked up some bagels too. There are two counters when you walk into the deli, the left side has the bagels and bakery goods. The right side has an assortment of savory pastry's and meats. There are so many things to try, we'll have to go back a few more times to try everything! There are an around 10-15 tables/booths in the front of the deli and we saw an additional room with more seating towards the back. We ordered a few sandwiches for lunch while we were there, a Reuben and chicken salad. The Reuben was very good. It was loaded with a lot of corned beef, that was not too fatty. The bread was toasted and had a perfect crunch. This was one of the better Reuben's I've had. The chicken salad sandwich was equally as good. We were both impressed with our sandwiches. Looking forward to trying different items from the menu. We haven't tried the bagels and cream cheese we picked up yet, I'll have to update the review after we try them. read more

My Jewish friends recommended the matzo ball soup at this place when I was complaining to them that my former favorite matzo ball soup restaurant closed ...and they were not wrong! It's SO good! Really flavorful soup broth ... and perfect matzo balls!!!! I also love their Reuben sandwich, homemade potato salad, soft delicious bagels, cream cheese ...and my kids say they have the best cookies ever! The cookies here are fresh and soft with good icing! I arrived ahead of my 12:30 meet-up with my friend Rich. (If you're not 15 minutes early, you're late.) The counter staff was very attentive and greeted me, then finished ringing up a customer before asking what I'd like to order. I said I wanted coffee while I waited for my friend and he gave me a mug and said he'd charge me when I placed my order. Perhaps a small gesture, but those niceties do not go unnoticed. Once Rich arrived, I ordered my go-to lox & bagel (pumpernickel, toasted with butter and cream cheese) with the works (sliced tomato, onion, cucumbers and capers). Yum-yum delicious. I need to clarify something. I mentioned about the coffee at Original Bagel and how my friends act towards the owner about what coffee he serves. He is not a coffee shop. It is his restaurant. I go almost every Sunday and they always complain about the coffee and that they need to change it. I'm getting sick and tired about them complaining about the coffee. I don't drink it, I don't care. Ambiance - very neighborhood like. Plenty of regulars and def busy on weekends. I have ordered from here A LOT and I will keep going. With that being said, count on one thing- they WILL get your order wrong. Whether it's not enough potatoes, missing an item or missing a sauce, without fail, every time I order from them, something is wrong. However, the food itself is classic. Nothing out of this world but reliable (taste wise). This takeout photo shows how they rly skimped out on the potatoes. My Bf added his potatoes into my box and it still was not much. We frequently dine here as a family for Sunday morning breakfast! Some of our favorites are their French toast, rainbow bagels, nova lox, matzo ball soup, tuna salad, and corned beef hash. We've come here a few times as it's hard to find a good bagel in the Northwest suburbs. We always enjoy their food but it takes a long time to get the order. Today we ordered 4 bagels, toasted with cream cheese . There are 9 folks working behind the counter and it's been 45 minutes so far. I don't think I'm overreacting, but should it really take this long? My wife went shopping at the Jewel next door, finished, loaded up the car and we're still waiting. It wasn't busy when we came in but is now. Just finally got our order and as you'll see in the pictures, the bagels are halved with spreads and all on top of each other. The manager/owner was very apologetic and offered to redo the order. Miscommunication and newer employees were the excuses. Shenanigans and tomfoolery! This deli is going on my best corned beef list. My sandwich was packed with semi warm (I did ask for a hot corned beef) corned beef on top of some thick sliced rye bread. Our other sandwich was a Rueben on the same bread. Both came with a pickle slice and choice of coleslaw or potato salad. My wife ordered curly fries for a dollar upcharge that was worth it because the basket of fries was enough for the both of us. You order, get a number and find a table where they bring the order to your table. Located in a strip mall near a Jewel grocery store so plenty of parking. Looking forward to trying more of the huge menu but for now the corned beef sandwiches and this dining experience is four stars. read more
