A few of the olive oils for sale. Yum.
Diann B.

This winery was recommended by an owner of another local winery. We are SO GRATEFUL that he did recommend it. I entered this quaint establishment and was thrilled that we could sit inside. I believe that San Diego county just entered the orange tier. We sat at an empty table inside. We asked for a flight of reds. I really enjoyed the banter between the customers (1 couple sat at the bar. The other couple sat at the table beside us.... socially distanced of course.) They weren't regulars and yet it was if they knew Dianne forever. Please let me talk about Dianne before I go into my over the top experience!! There is something so charismatic about her... she just draws you in. She is smart, funny, keeps it real and has an evident pride in what she does. She exudes happiness and really listens. I appreciated the occasional cuss word that she intentionally used to add flavor to the conversation. Deerhorn Valley Vineyards is open on weekends and by appointment on the weekdays. Tastings are $10 each. They are waived if you buy 1 bottle of wine. We loved every wine that she generously poured. Wowza. I appreciate great wine. If you do, please find your way to Deerhorn Valley. The young couple next to us .. perhaps 30ish, were raving about the wines and Dianne. I asked the customer what he was eating. It looked like bread sticks with a variety of little plastic cups. The couple said it was amazing. I asked Dianne if I could buy that too. Dianne replied that it is free. She wants her customers to taste the variety of olive oils and balsalmic vinegars that they have for sale. She said, I guarantee that you will love it. There were about 15ish perfectly placed plastic containers of deliciousness. Based on where the samples were placed, Dianne could tell you which one was which. Please be patient as this is loving and prideful process! We spent about 1 hour and a half there. We ended up exchanging numbers with the young couple. The couple seated at the bar bought us each a glass of wine for our 22nd anniversary. Dianne was very very kind and generous. We bought 3 or 4 bottles of wine, 2 balsamic vinegars and 2-3 bottles of infused olive oils. Everything is priced very reasonably. The Bourbon balsalmic vinegar is to die for (as my Mom would say). We have already served a dish at home to company and had rave reviews. We gave the butter infused olive oil to our friend who is a chef. He called us and thanked us. My husband spent about 20 minutes speaking to the winemaker. He shared lovingly, Dianne is the draw. She has a way of connecting with people. Yeah... we know. As another Yelper wrote, "Go for the wine and view, stay to spend time with Dianne." When it was time to leave, I thought to myself, What an over the top wonderful way to spend our anniversary. (I wish that the people at our campground... Thousand Trails Pio Pico knew about this hidden gem. i feel so fortunate that it was recommended to me by a local.) Salud! Cin Cin!

Petite Verdot is my new favorite - It was a great late winter day.

Every single wine we tasted was full bodied and complex. All of them were well balanced. It is rare that you like every wine. What a surprise it was to discover this gem. Blows anything in Temecula away. Left with 5 bottles. Diane is a super gracious host and Donna was super helpful. This is a down to earth atmosphere that we didn't want to leave. Diane brought us a tasting of her amazing vinegars and oils to try. The bourbon Vinegar with the basil oil is my new favorite and far more reasonably priced than others in San Diego county.

I would recommend this winery 1000xs if I could. Chris and Diane were beyond amazing. Their knowledge on the wines were on point. Each one tasted better than the last! The conversation and personal touch they add to the tasting make you feel as if you're in their backyard enjoying a nice evening with friends. They both are so sweet and personable WE LOVED IT. Being from the Ecoast and having southern hospitality ( something CA lacks) these two made up for it in less than 2hours! They did a tasting with oils (prob 15 diff flavors) OH MY! I wanted to buy some many of them! Some of the wine I couldn't even pronounce BUT that's bc they go out of the ordinary and choose grapes that aren't the normal ones company's use. Bottles are soooooo reasonably priced! I got two Bottles, a jalapeño oil, and two tastings only spend $67. If you are looking for a amazing experience, do come here. You will not be disappointed. I hope they open a bigger tasting room bc they are phenomenal! Thank you for a wonderful experience !!

Pour of petite verlot (chocolate covered cherry with vanilla flavors).

My wife and I found this gem, which is conveniently located in the beautiful Jamul countryside. We had the best time tasting wine and chatting with the owner, Diane and her son, Chris. They are very nice people and very hospitable. The wine is delicious! I am picky with wine and every pour was great. I even enjoyed the white, which is a style I don't like in general. Their white wine was so juicy and smooth and not tart or sour at all as I am used to tasting with other whites. I took home two bottles of red that stood out to me. The grounds are gorgeous and parking is easy. The tasting room is perfect with cold AC blowing. The best part was being greeted by their adorable dog, Timmy. He made the experience that much better. We will definitely be returning to enjoy more wine and catch up with new friends in the future! Highly recommend.

A spontaneous stop here on Valentine's weekend and the owner was so gracious in accommodating my husband, daughter and I on the pergola which we had all to ourselves with the vineyard behind us and rolling hills in front of us. It was lovely. We enjoyed tasting a delicious array of olive oils and wine. My daughter loved the chocolate balsamic vinegar, my husband the jalapeño olive oil, and I loved the bourbon balsamic vinegar. We went home with 5 or 6 oils and vinegars and a bottle of the Montepulciano. We'll definitely be back, and have already recommended this great little spot to friends.

Diana is great host and her family is great ! The wine is delicious and small locally owned winery for the area. The olive oils are also delicious and recommend sampling some of them as well. A great time and nice views as well.

Oil and vinegar tasting

Our group of 6 had a wonderful afternoon here at Deerhorn Valley Vineyards. We enjoyed a wine and oil + vinegar tasting before purchasing some bottles of wine and oil. The woman running the tasting is an owner and was wonderful. Very knowledgeable about the grapes and varieties. I really enjoyed a few of the wines, but enjoyed tasting them all regardless. She allowed us to bring some cheese and snacks to taste with the wine, and provided bread for us to dip in the oils and vinegars. The views at this winery are gorgeous, with the vineyards nearby. I loved walking the grounds after, smelling a beautiful lemon tree and watching the other owner scoop Chardonnay grapes into the de-stemmer. I would love to return to this winery.

This vineyard is great. The owner is amazingly friendly. She let us take our Dog inside the tasting room. We tasted all the different kind of olive oil and balsamic Vinegar. My favorite is the chocolate balsamic. Cute little place to hang out. We will be definitely be bac

The tasting was seriously enjoyable. They also make their own olive oil from their olives on the property. You can really tastes it's pure, clean taste of the extra virgin olive oil. I even brought home some of their honey. I live close to Valentina's and they say that eating locally sourced honey is good for allergies. I also came home with 2 other bottles of wine that I am sure we'll enjoy. Lance, the owner was a pleasure to meet and I will definitely be sharing this place with friends. See you soon

They are representatives of what old California wines use to be. The kind of places where you met the owners, talked about the grapes, got to see the fields, discuss real life events, enjoy good wine. You don't get that anymore from the commercialize corporate Napa or Temecula areas. There are still some places but in general the days of enjoying those wine country areas are long gone. The wines had great character and taste. From the whites with their aromas and great senses. Easy to pair with light food or pastries or just drink at an event or picnic. The rose wine with their unique changes in palate and taste a great addition for an awesome lunch get together, an afternoon boating, or a good sunset. To the ideals reds with bold creativity. Screams of chimichurri, big pieces of beef, lamb or portobello grilled. Yet you can just sit with some and enjoy an evening with some cheese, bread and music and think "life is alright". This place is not big but you feel comfortable, you are welcome by the family as if you are a long lost cousin, the country side makes you want to stay. Next door there is a nice store with a continuous running grill and excellent tacos when you get hungry. Don't forget to try and buy their great olive oil and honey. All natural grown on location. I am hard to please to 5 stars. I can't wait to come back bring a good basket of food and just spend my afternoon thinking of nothing and enjoying everything.
