Found this place when we just had to know where the amazing donuts our farmers market had were made. Not only are the donuts second to none but everyone I've brought treats home for so far has said it's the best **fill in the blank** I've ever had. Excellent ingredients. Excellent donuts and most pastries. Excellent to ok cakes. Marred by sometimes uninspired execution and flavors. I've been coming here for years so I thought I'd share my impressions. First, the best things to get here imho are the donuts. Specifically the chocolate covered donuts. By far the best in maybe 20 miles. Also, the cinnamon rolls. My goodness they are a heavenly treat. In general, I've not had a bad donut or breakfast pastry here yet. The birthday cakes can be very very good to a bit of a let down. I will say I've never questioned there ingredients- it always appears as if they use top notch. But I've had at least one very dry cake here and though my wife absolutely adores them, I find the chocolate birthday cakes here too dark, rich and dry for my tastes. Advisory on the eclairs. Though the chocolate icing is amazing, They are more whipped egg cream than custard and the last one i had the pastry was in fact a little stale. I couldn't have been more impressed with this bakery. It didn't have a big variety of items however the items they did make were exceptional. I ordered an eclair, carrot cake jar, croissant cup (forgot the picture), and a cake pop (forgot the picture). Out of all of these items I enjoyed the carrot cake jar THE MOST the cake was moist and delicious and full of flavor, it wasn't overly sweet I only wished they had bigger jars. This place is the bomb. I love the Boston Cream donuts. Real custard filling with a generous topping of rich chocolate icing and it is huge. Excellent donut selection and numerous pastry options are available. They have delicious breads, cookies and coffee cakes. Service is outstanding! No place to eat inside but plan to sample on the way home. I never have regretted over buying. Most trips I buy extra to share with friends. I have ordered several cakes that were very good. One important thing I forgot to mention was the taste! The mousse was unlike any I've had before- perfect amount of chocolate and smooth as can be. The cake was incredibly moist and tasted fantastic! So incredibly good. We just moved to the area from South Loop a few months ago. We were happy with everything apart from oneeee sector - the food. The Naperville area just can't compete. That is, until we found this place a few days ago. My mom is in town, visiting from The Bahamas. She has a sweet tooth and I wanted to treat her, so we found DeEtta's on Yelp and my wife and mother went in. What they came back with was perfection. They were all God damn divine. At least as good as the best bakery we visited in the city. They may have fancier places in the Loop, but the taste and texture of everything we had was just so good. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it. Some recommendations: - The almond cake. Lord Jesus above, I love this moist slice of heaven. - the chocolate brownie. Amazing. Perfectly balanced. - the lemon bar. Tart, sweet, lovely texture. Whatever the base/crust is, is in another level. As is the custard. - the apple cinnamon scone. - the petite four. I didn't get to try them because my mom inhaled them before I had a chance, but...by all indications, they were great. There wasn't one thing that I didn't immensely enjoy. I got a gift card to this bakery for Christmas after I mentioned to a friend that I had passed the place a million times but never been in! And yesterday I finally got around to making use of it. So many yummy creations to choose from (as I was checking out I spotted something in another person's order behind me and had to be nosy. Note to self: try a coconut long John next time...) I got the ham and smoked Gouda croissant cup, which was FABULOUS, and an apple cinnamon scone (not my favorite flavor but the top out of the others available: lemon blueberry and strawberry banana. There are many other flavors that they rotate, according to the web site.) Even the next morning it had retained a good texture and was still very crumbly. Though the gift card is of the plastic variety, I was surprised that they still record how much was spent off it in a paper spreadsheet! I retained my receipt as well in case there is any confusion... Overall, I would definitely return to try new things (and not just because I still have half a gift card to use!) DO NOT order your wedding cake from DeEtta's (or any special occasion cake). Our cake was supposed to have little figurines of our pets at the bottom. We had extensive email communication confirming the design. We showed up at the venue on the day of the wedding and saw that they delivered a plain white cake with zero decoration. When we asked for a refund, we were told that they would give us $100 off (not even 1/4 of the cost of the cake) and a $75 gift card. Two months later, we still haven't received the refund. My husband and I waited two years to have our wedding celebration and the cake was a key detail that we splurged on and were excited about. Not only did DeEtta's fail to deliver the cake they promised, they have done absolutely nothing to make it right. Buyer beware. read more

About 3.5-4 stars on flavor as they are pleasant and doesn't really seem to use any artificial ingredients. But rounded down as the price is a bit high for something that isn't very distinct or well-refined. Overall, the donuts are prepared a little better than normal. The cake donuts have a nice fluffiness and aren't too sweet. The yeast donuts could've had a better texture and been a bit more moist. They are definitely cheaper than the famous donut shops such are Firecakes, Glazed 'n Infused, Do-rite Donuts, and Doughnut Vault -- but the flavor and complexity cannot be compared. Much more expensive than other solid options such as Spunky Dunkers, Wheeling Donuts, or Donut Drop. Either items like the cookies and brownies fell into a similar issue -- nice ingredients but nothing stands out about the flavor or texture. There are many other bakeries in the suburbs offering similar items for much less. Pastries like Bostock and the almond croissant cup were very moist and buttery -- however, again -- the butter is really all that will stand out about these items. The toppings and fillings don't make an impression unfortunately. Overall, I might stop by if I'm in the area -- but I wouldn't make a special trip here for the food. read more

WE'VE FOUND OUR PERMANENT BAKERY! We ordered a cake from DeEtta's for our son's 5th birthday. We've tried numerous bakeries in Chicago and Weber's, but the cakes are never good enough for us to return for future events. After speaking with the staff at DeEtta's, I had a REALLY good feeling. They are very, very knowledgeable, creative, and caring. They gave me options within my budget, described the different types of buttercream, and were very honest. This was important because I wanted a really nice 2 tiered cake, but I didn't want to pay a fortune for it. THE CAKE: This was quite possibly the best cake I've ever had! We had it decorated with a Toy Story theme, which they did beautifully. It was chocolate cake, with chocolate mousse filling and vanilla American buttercream icing and IT TASTED PHENOMENAL! The cake was perfectly moist, the mousse and the buttercream weren't too sweet. The buttercream wasn't greasy at all either. All the adults at the party loved the cake and unfortunately, I didn't have any of DeEtta's cards, so I had to write the name and phone number numerous times. My only slight complaint was some of the donuts had a little bit too much frosting for my liking but I am one of those weirdos that doesn't like a lot of frosting on my cake or donuts. Their final quote was over $3,400 for the same cake design that we are now buying from a very well-established baker with a great reputation for $860 delivered. We didn't have a specific price point. It was a matter of being asked to pay $2,600 more for a cake of the same quality. read more

We ordered a cookie kit in March which included 6 cookies, 3 buttercream bags and 2 containers of sprinkles for $22. We previously tried Dettas bakery a few weeks prior and we really enjoyed their donuts and eclairs so I was looking forward to a fun activity for the kids. I pre ordered and picked up my kit the next day. We came home and set up the area for the kids to decorate while it was a fun experience for the kids as soon as they went to take a bite my daughter said, mom, the cookie is really hard. Sure enough we tried to break off a piece to try and it was hard to bite into. We ended up having to warm them up in the microwave a few mins but for homemade it definitely wasn't worth it. I don't mind paying $ for quality but the 6 cookies being hard wasn't worth it in my opinion. There's no way those cookies were freshly cooked that day or the previous day. The next day they wanted to decorate but we skipped out on eating them. I'm giving them 2 stars for the easiness in ordering and our previous experience with their other treats. read more

I visited DeEttas this morning following a recommendation I read on a neighborhood app. I purchased nearly $50 in wonderful yummy goods. So far I've only tried the kolaches and they truly are better than homemade. I can't wait to taste the cinnamon roll, almond danish, marshmallows and the popover. This place truly is a hidden gem. And they're open on Sunday! However my excitement upon arrival was quickly diminished by the clerk waiting on me. She was extremely unwelcoming and obviously lacked proper customer service etiquette. I don't know if she was family but that shouldn't excuse her piss-poor attitude. She never smiled and was a big downer! Other clerks were standing around looking helpless and perhaps untrained. No team effort. I thought it was odd that they didn't have a large bag to hold the 5 boxes/ bags I purchased. She just shoved them across the counter to me and went on to the next customer. She never thanked me for my business or wished me a nice day! I just don't understand how someone can't be pleasant. It's just so much easier to be nice In the end I will be a return customer but will definitely wait for another clerk to wait on me if she's working. read more

The coffee cakes are so tasty. The Ham & Bacon muffins are original I wished they had some meat in them. Every time we buy them I keep thinking when we slice them to put in oven to warm them they will have added some meat but there is so little ham & bacon that you end up so disappointed.
