(The young girl actually looked afraid to go back and ask someone a question.) you offer A BACKHANDED SLAM. Even less confidence now. Jewel made an awesome cake!!! The Jewel employee came out from behind the counter with an order form discussed what I wanted in the cake and it was ready and awesome when I picked it up on Sunday morning. Maybe you shouldn't put people behind the counter of your bakery that don't understand what a cake is or how to take an order for it. I got the turtle cheesecake, lemon sour cream donut and Boston kreme donut and let me just say- holy SUGAR. I have a massive sweet tooth but these take the cake as one of the sweetest, but delicious, desserts I've had in a while. * cheesecake: the thickest cheesecake I've ever seen- yes it was thicker than Cheesecake Factory. I wish it had more graham cracker base but it was still amazing and so rich. / * donuts: these donuts are stuffed to perfection, huge, and flavorful! I preferred the Boston Kreme but I'll definitely swing by to try the other flavors. / They're only opened until 2 PM on the weekends so I highly urge you to go early! Our wedding cake from DeEtta's Bakery was absolutely delicious! The entire process to coordinate our tasting and select our cake was very smooth. They offer a variety of cake flavors, fillings, and beautiful designs to choose from. We chose a white cake with almond cream filling and an almond cake with cream cheese filling. Both were beyond my expectations. The flavors were perfect together and the cake was incredibly moist and soft. We had many guests mentioning how good the cake was! The final result was absolutely beautiful. I hadn't heard of DeEtta's until we began our wedding planning and they are on our radar now! I don't know how anyone could give Deettas less than five stars. Every item I've tasted there has been ridiculously delicious (although the coffee cakes really aren't my favorite). The eclairs are huge and amazing. The cinnamon rolls are ginormous and delicious. My kids love the decorated cookies, and they even taste great. The donuts are fantastic. The lemon bars are unique, and probably one of my favorite items. And the Boston cream and strawberry filled donuts are fought over at my house. Those are probably our go-to items, although we have purchased others. read more

My wife and I used DeEtta's Bakery for our wedding cake. To provide a little context where we got married the venue had an exclusively agreement with DeEtta's to provide our wedding cake. The cost of the wedding cake (and a one year anniversary cake) was built into our venue price. Overall, the cake was good not great. You could get a better cake for the same price elsewhere. The owner is rude to his own customers (which after reading all the reviews I now know is on brand for him). To start with some of the positives. The look and design of the cake was great. It was exactly what we had ordered. Overall the cake taste was just average. It was nothing extra special. I have had the same type of cake, but better in many other places in and around the city of Chicago. What could be improved; plain and simple the customer service. The owner who I spoke with multiple times was rude and disrespectful. Our main issue was that we wanted to try a variety of different cakes/fillings/icing that went past the 2-3 favors DeEtta's allowed. We called DeEtta's to gain clarity on how to move forward. After multiple rude phone calls and paying an additional charge per cake/filling our request was honored. Every conversation was met with the owner being nothing but argumentative and disrespectful. The other workers/staff we spoke with were very kind and helpful. My suggestion would be to add some additional communication about how to obtain additional favors in the original instructions. Our other issue was that the DeEtta's provided the cake tasting in a deconstructed format. Which essentially was just small cubes of cake and a few scoops of the filling/icing. While this some what accomplishes the taste component, it was difficult to envision what the full layered cake presentation would look like for our guests. Overall communication was poor. I really wanted to like DeEtta's especially because they are a local bakery. Additionally, I think it's important to note that they have acquired many exclusively agreements from multiple large wedding venues in the in the chicago land area. This essentially forces the bride/groom to utilize them as a vendor or pay hundreds more to go with a different vendor. I hope they can utilize this feedback to improve on their customer service. I will add additional notes to my review after our 1 year anniversary cake is fulfilled. read more

My gf was craving a scone so I Google Mapped "bakeries near me" & discovered this gem. She got a raspberry scone & some kinda muffin; I got the double chocolate cookie. I like to heat up my cookies in the microwave for a few seconds to soften them up, but I didn't need to do that with this one as it was already super soft. So delicious! We bought a sea salt chocolate chip cookie (think: tons of chocolate paired with sea salt), DeEtta bar (tastes like oats, chocolate, and coconut), Cardamon Pear Scone with sliced almonds, Blueberry Scone, Pumpkin Tart, Lemon Bar, and Herbed Butter. How have I not known about this place for the last 4 years living in Naperville?! Stopped in here one morning and got an array of goodies from the stuffed croissant muffins and donuts to apple cinnamon bun and pumpkin pie tart and everything was delicious. I've frequented this bakery for a while, especially liked their whole wheat bread. The donuts are only available on Saturdays and Sundays, however they often run out. So for an upcoming Sunday event I called to place an order for one dozen assorted donuts. After selecting I was asked for a credit card... my response, "Can you give me a total so I can recognize the charge?" I was told, "I'm not near the register so I can't do that..." then I got a verbal rundown of each donut's price but no total. In retrospect, there was my red flag!! So I flexed on needing exact total, provided my card info and afterward was told that if I didn't pick up by 10am Sunday I could not cancel, and that made some sense. Later that same day (within a couple of hours after I placed the order) the event was cancelled. I called the bakery, which was closed, and left a message to cancel the order for pick up the next day assuming they would (1) not make extras and (2) process a refund. Next morning at 7am I called again to make sure they cancelled and was told the order had already been filled! Evidently they don't listen to their voice mail! Long story short their policy is NO Cancellations, NO refunds, under ANY circumstances. This was no custom cake or anything different from their normal product offering. After a few conversations I went there to pick up my day old donuts and donated them to our break room at work! How utterly rigid and inflexible!! I could flex on not knowing what charge went on my card cause their order taker didn't know how to total without a register but they could not flex to accommodate me. They just kept repeating "it's our policy..." Write me off as a client, won't be back, not the attitude I like doing business with. Now, they make an excellent product and I can't take that away from them but I can get better attitude at Dunkin'. Those of you who read my reviews know I'm hypercritical of food but forgiving on many levels and will often try again! Not this place, and I haven't hit Google In reply to the owner: I actually left a message Saturday to cancel the order and castigating you for being rigid and non customer friendly May not be something you want to hear. Yelp made me "edit" out a reference inspired by Seinfeld in dealing with a store that sold soup. In retrospect your receipt that I had to ask for says "All orders are nonchangeable and no refundable...." A receipt I could not see over the phone! And, no, I was not told that and it doesn't excuse the fact that you (1) don't listen to voice mail (2) never told me how much the order was over the phone! Shame on you, how you got to be exclusive to the Morton Arboretum with your poor attitude is sad! read more

Some of the best coffee in town. Stunning sour cream donuts. Last week I was lucky enough to win some apple cinnamon rolls from them and they were humongous and arguably the best cinnamon rolls we have ever had anywhere. Pre-ordered donuts and a bunch of other items for a Friday morning due to reviews advising it. When we arrived staff was friendly, and swiftly put additional items we bought that day together with our pre-ordered items. Let me start by saying I saw video of the coffee cake being made. I did not see a finished product, but what I saw during the process looked delicious. I asked the price before I ordered and was shocked at the $14.95 price for one coffee cake. But, thought it at least would be bigger than a Jewel coffee cake ( and better). Welllllllll, unfortunately it was not. It actually looked deflated, and lacked flavor. The only pastry I bought that was half decent were the $6 chocolate eclairs. And, the carrot cake jars were good. None of the donuts were good...I hate to say half went in the garbage. I HATE wasting food and money. Donuts have NEVER gone to waste in my house until now. I spent about $100 that I wish would have been worth spending. read more

We had our home wedding this past weekend and decided that even though we weren't having our big 150+ party with a massive cake, we still wanted to have a wedding cake to celebrate. DeEtta's was able to make the EXACT same cake I had originally ordered for 150 people, in a smaller size. The cake was beyond delicious. My husband and I both do not like desserts but I swear this is the best cake I have ever had and I can't stop eating it! We choose the American buttercream frosting, white cake and Bavarian cream filling. It was perfect! The blue ombré style was everything I pictured in my head it would be and we just could not be more pleased! With the majority of the wedding being nothing as originally planned, it was so special to still have one a beautiful wedding cake. Even if we cut it in our living room! One of my favorite bakeries ever! The cinnamon rolls are massive and more importantly DELICIOUS! Everything here is great! The bread, while not TERRIBLE is by far the least recommended item. I had read about this bakery and marked it "to try" and finally made that into a reality. It is a destination bakery, you will not fortuitously amble past. I was able to purchase a variety of items, luckily, to share with guests. Muffins, kolacky, "sweetie pies", scones, and a coffee cake. It was shared and devoured. This way, we got to taste some of everything. I was told there are donuts on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and possibly on Friday mornings. I am betting they sell out, so get there early. What we had was mouth-watering delicious, moist, with just the right amount of crumbliness. Service was attentive and all my questions were happily answered. Yes, it may be worth the drive and the earlier you arrive, the greater your selection. There is ample parking, but the business next door has earmarked some spaces, it doesn't appear to be nearly as busy as the bakery. read more
