I was a walk in from out of town. Alexxus gave me an amazing haircut. The vibe in the place is friendly and chill. I was offered a drink as soon as I walked in and was told I would be next. Alexxus was friendly and had a super positive attitude. I immediately felt at home, like and old friend was giving me a haircut. Not only does his cut come out perfect every time, Jason is able to keep up with the ever changing requests of a ten year old soccer player. The service is efficient, yet detailed and precise. Loved getting my first professional haircut in 18 months by fully vaccinated barber Cesar. (I wore a mask due to my own health issues.). Sharp new shop, right next to The Deli Llama. It was spotlessly clean with sun coming in the big windows and AC on. Smelled good! And Caesar was on-time and on-point, taking a T-blade, scissors, & product to my newly-crisp Mohawk. Hector has helped take my really long and plain hair and turned it into really long and fun hair! He doesn't over-cut, and listens to everything I am looking for. I got two good haircuts here, but both times while getting my hair cut, my barber urged me to set an appointment with "the black barber" in their shop since he would be better at cutting my hair. It seemed weird, but I followed his advice and set an appointment. Since then, I've been stood up for more haircuts than I've received. I set an appointment, and show up only to have other embarrassed employees tell me that my barber is not coming in. I get zero notifications, no email, no nothing until I'm literally in a seat waiting to be turned away. This has happened 3 times and two of the occasions were right before events where I needed to look crisp. I'm never going back to get a haircut here and it sucks because they're like 300 feet from my house. On the plus side, they've left me hanging so often I've actually learned to cut my own hair. read more

I've been going to Defined Cuts for a while now. The shop is located in Hillcrest with LGBTQIA+ welcome decals in the window so you would think they would be LGBTQIA+ welcoming and friendly. However, I was completely turned off by employee discussions centered around the LGBTQIA+ community. The first incident was bashing Drag Queens. I won't get into details but suffice it to say it was completely inappropriate. I was not going to return but thought maybe it was just a one-off and gave it a second chance...WELL, during my next visit, an employee walked in saying that, "it was just announced that Gonzo (the Muppet) was Trans and how fucked up it was. He said Gonzo is a fuc*ing TRANNY, isn't that a bunch of bull sh*t". The clients sat in their chairs and said nothing. You could feel the tension in the shop - how uncomfortable. I find it disturbing for a business in Hillcrest displaying the LGBTQIA+ Ally, Progress and Trans flag decals in the window but has employee(s) spouting anti-LGBTQIA+ discourse. What a quick way to ruin a perfectly good business. Sadly to say, I will not return. Hopefully the owner will take corrective action. read more
