I was walking by and was in need of a cleanup. The 1st shop was busy but I was taken in next door. Nice guy and barber and a pretty good haircut. But, I wasn't offered the new customer discount, no shampoo and no razor blade finish on the sideburns nor the back line. I asked twice and I was told it looked good but he hadn't done anything. I talked to Victor over the phone and he said it was 40$ for a men's haircut. When he charged me 50$ I simply asked what the extra 10$ was for and he said it's because I went from "long to short". I asked "what does that mean" and then he said "just give me 40 I'm not gonna argue with you." I said "It's just a question." I wasn't trying to argue. I would have happily paid it and given a tip but I was just wondering. Then he said "No you're just being rude" because I asked him a simple question about the price. My hair wasn't long, I had it cut the same way about three weeks ago. Needless to say I'm not going to get a haircut with him again. The second star is because he actually fixed my fade in order to match the picture that I showed him at the beginning of my cut so maybe he was upset that he had to shorten my fade. I love coming to Little Italy and gaslamp area often since I live an hour away so it feels like im on vacation. Next time I'll just get a haircut before coming to San Diego to avoid this. read more

When I arrived at the shop, I was greeted by John who then proceeded to give me one of the BEST haircuts and beard trims I've ever had. Not only was it a great cut, John went above and beyond with a hot towel treatment, head & shoulder massage, and beard oil application. Boris took care of me and gave me a medium fade, and the haircut came out excellent. The customer service was on point, the shop was clean, well kept, and had a great vibe. I also appreciated that they offered refreshments, which is a nice touch and makes the whole experience feel elevated. In Little Italy on Ash. Two small shops, separate, but together. Check-in for $5 off your cut. There's a little lull between customers. The barber cutting my husband's hair was just chilling out, he's somewhat meticulous with the cut he gives and makes sure you are satisfied with the length of the cut. $40 for all cuts, seemed a bit pricey for a electric clipper cut, but all cuts include a wash and a shoulder massage with a small hand held machine. The old school straight razor for the neck shave. The wash was afterwards. The cleanup wasn't so good, which we noticed after we took off. read more

Jon at Vince's Barber Shop was a great haircut with a fun old timey feel. My father is in a wheel chair and wanted to get a shave with a straight blade razor as well as a haircut. The owner of the shop was there too and was very friendly and helped me set up my dad in his wheelchair. The chairs there are authentic from the early 1900's and beautiful. Jon did a fantastic job with my dad, even with the added difficulty of his wheelchair. They even gave my dad a beer while he got his haircut which he really enjoyed (as did I!). On my way home from the office on a mid-Sunday afternoon, and remembered that I needed a haircut. My regular place had already closed and I did a quick Yelp search to see what was nearby. I went to Vince's barbershop hoping I could get a walk in appointment, and Paul was ready to go. I sat down in the chair and Paul was very thorough in asking how I style my hair, what length I wanted, how I wanted it cut, and asked the last time had it cut BEFORE he started cutting. Much to my surprise, he then washed my hair, parted it, and then cut everything with scissors. Efficient, yet, careful attention to detail. The place is clean, with mid-volume music. After he cut my hair, he blow dried the excess hair of me, styled my hair, gave me a baby wipe to clean my face, and ended with a nice after shave on the back of my neck. 5-star experience and my hair looks great! It's a very convenient location, very accessible, and really competent staff. Prices are super-reasonable (lower than competitors, but you don't sacrifice a thing). I gave this place a few tries for the benefit of the doubt, and because I work close by. but will not be going back. 1. One of the times I went I got home and had to do a bunch of touch ups on my line-up. They charge 40+ dollars and that doesn't include a hot/razor shave, which is pretty standard these days at most reputable barbershops. 2. The second time I went I got a bunch of little bumps and irritation from the electric shaver they used in place of a razor shave. Another barber told me that this is from not properly sanitizing the equipment. Not sure what happened. This was with a guy named Paul. 3. The final straw: I stopped by today and there was nobody waiting. They told me I was next when the the barber came back from the bathroom, but when he came back he told me the other guy would cut my hair, and then I had the pleasure of having two of the barbers argue over who would cut my hair because it sounded like one wanted to leave and one didn't think he could cut it in time before his next appointment. Extremely unprofessional and tacky. I told them I'd go somewhere else and suddenly they were ready for me, but I rather take my money to a barber that wants it. They have two little storefronts and all this happened at the "main" one which I think is even worse. For what they charge, you can get much better around town. I gave them the benefit of the doubt out of convenience, but it was not worth it after trying them out a few times. P.S. the only haircuts I was happy with here were by a young man named Eric, who was very sweet and did a great job, and another guy named George. read more
