COVID-19: open for emergencies. There's a global pandemic going on, and the American Dental Association has recommended that all dental practices be closed *except for emergencies* -- and an infected tooth that requires removal meets that condition. You will not be confused about whether or not you need emergency dental services. In my own case, high levels of pain provided the clue. Dehnert Dental has rearranged their waiting room, sent home virtually all of their staff and hygienists, but the actual dentists and key assistants remain on the job, to do emergency dental work that might otherwise send you to the ER. My visit yesterday was to remove stitches from last week's oral surgery. It had apparently been a busy morning, with several otherwise unplanned extractions. The fact of the pandemic has not eliminated the need for emergency dental medicine. Dr Dehnert and his partner Dr Mednick are both "Best Doctor" rated dentists ("Best Doctor" uses peer rating system to determine who are the best doctors within a given field). They have an extraordinary dedication to their patients and staff. Contrary to some comments, dentists are not "a dime a dozen", especially in the area of oral surgery. You will not find quickly find a better dentist. Highly recommended for those in need. read more

Paid a visit to Aspen dental 2 years ago and the end result gave me a fear of dentists and prospective $25,000 solution that included complete removal of every tooth in my head. I hid for 2 years then went to Dehnert Dental for a second opinion. After a MORE COMPREHENSIVE exam than I previously received, they Identified the TWO (2) teeth that actually needed to be pulled. They confirmed I have gum disease and may eventually lose more but in no way suggested a complete mouth makeover any time soon. I have found my dentist FINALLY! read more

Ah, the dentist. Who really wants to go to the dentist? Surely, not me. But, alas, I chipped a tooth once, and that set off a series of dental appointments. I chose Dr. Dehnert for his proximity and availability at the time. I was a patient of Dr. Dehnert's for a little more than a year, but no longer, for a few reasons that I'll go through here. While I think he does good work, he has a mediocre, at best, bedside manner. He comes across as arrogant and impatient. It's almost as if he doesn't really want to be bothered by what you have to say, because he doesn't believe what you're saying. Even when he's being friendly (for him) it still feels a little cold. Dental work itself is already unpleasant without compounding a poor demeanor from the dentist onto it. This office is also HIGHLY concerned with money. They play games with the insurance to maximize their profits. They completely screwed up my insurance one year by charging far too much for a procedure. I was aware of this because I had the same procedure done not even a year before, and the cost was 30% less when I paid by cash. Well, my insurance company has rules to try to avoid that kind of gouging, and so they didn't cover a large portion of the procedure, leaving it for me to pay out-of-pocket. Another thing that irked me was their insistence on having deep cleanings done (for additional cost, of course). My new dentist seems to think that they're not necessary for me, that a regular cleaning is just fine. Another money making scheme? I'm not sure, but it seems like it. The office is new and quite nice. The work that Dr. Dehnert has done hasn't given me any problems, so I would trust him as a dentist, but I would never see him again because he makes me uncomfortable. Additionally, I just don't trust the office as a whole to do what's best for me as a person. I trust that they're doing all they can to line their pockets. read more

This place really is as good as it gets! I have seen a few dentists in the past, and sadly my favorite retired when I was 8. :( I had never found an office that was even close to how amazing my first dentist was, well until now. The ladies in this office, are amazing! From the moment you step in the door they make you feel like a friend. They put my mind at ease, and I'm the type to get nervous at a dentist's office. But nope not here. :) Dr. Mednick, is just amazing. At first I wanted an appointment with Dr. Dehnert, since his name is on the office. But he was booked for the day I needed, so I went with Dr. Mednick. I am so happy I did, as i said she is amazing! I got 2 fillings and didn't feel a thing. You see I'm a chicken when it comes to dental work, and needles, so I opted to get gas first. She knows exactly what she is doing, she upped the gas before she numbed me, so I didn't even feel the needle, and before she drilled so it was a breeze. I came here for the first time recently, switching from a different dentist across town. I really liked the professionalism and friendliness of all of the staff. Even before coming here for my visit, everything over the phone went well and they were able to answer all of my questions and put me at ease before my first exam. Half of the patient chairs face out these huge windows that look out at the beautiful mountains, but the chair I got just faced a wall. They stopped taking my insurance so I decided to not go back. They called me the day before my appointment to confirm and I said that I wasn't going to go back because of them not taking my insurance anymore. They said that they will still take my insurance until June but I have bronchitis so still can't make the appointment. Now they're charging me $50 for a no-show. I will not be going back and I suggest you don't either. I probably wouldn't have gone back anyway because their hygienist is condescending and annoying. And their equipment is outdated. The office and staff are great. It's really a nice place. But their concern over getting the most money out of your insurance and you was very disappointing. I don't mind splitting my appointments up if I have the time, but I don't like demands being made contingent to getting care. I sent my daughter there and they discovered 2 cavities and recommended a 'deep cleaning'. When I said just take care of the cavities now and we'll do the 'deep cleaning' later. They refused to do anything unless we got the cleaning first. After going to a new dentist they discovered no cavities and also recommended the deep cleaning, so that's what she'll be getting. Once before Dehnert Dental told me that I had a cavity and then when I showed up to the next appointment they said that there was no cavity. I suspect that Dehnert Dental knew my daughter had no real cavities and the real issue was the deep cleaning, but why they didn't just say this up front I can only wonder. After making my complaint to them I received a letter saying I was no longer welcome at their establishment. I really don't appreciate feeling like I'm working with a used car salesmen when getting medical care. I would've given them two stars, but their equipment is up to date and frankly I don't know if there are many dental offices much better, but when treated this way I leave. read more

I wish I could give a higher rating. I'm hoping I will upon my next visit. However, I really loved many things about this place, and I'm pretty darn picky when it comes to dentists: 1. The Dr. Mednick was great! She was extremely thorough and explained everything she was doing in layman's terms. Very nice. 2. The staff was very friendly 3. You have a front row seat of the Catalina's while you wait in the dental chair. I few things went wrong for me with this place: 1. After giving my insurance information 3 separate times over the phone, they asked me once again for it when I came for my visit 2. I scheduled a cleaning, and ended up being put down for just a check-up. The next appointment was not for another month and a half, even though I'm way over due for a cleaning. 3. I was there for 2 hours for only a check up. Granted I needed new x-rays, but, still quite a while to wait. Overall I really like this place, and am looking forward to returning and re-reviewing. Highly recommend this dentist office. The girls on the front desk are so cheery and personable. They always made me feel very comfortable. Rates are very reasonable. Very patient with all my questions, courteous in explanations. I knew before hand what was going to be done, how much it would cost and what it would entail. Dr. Dehnert is very knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. He spent time with me and explained to me what he saw on my x-rays and what treatment he proposed to use. His staff are well-trained and professional. The treatment can be expensive if you don't have insurance. But the service is impeccable. Plus, you don't have to wait for weeks, sometimes months to get an appointment. You can get an appointment with them usually within a couple of days. I would recommend it to anyone. read more

Hands down... THEE BEST DENTIST EVER!! Dr. John Dehnert has seriously changed my life. I had terrible previous dental experiences, including being made fun of by prior practicioner In my presence...if that does not make you want to see a dentist again, i don't know what will...completely, evil. so I did not see another dentist Until I found Dr. Dehnert. with said said, Dr. Dehnert has transfromed my smile and along with it my attitude and confidence regained. It turned out I have mild periodontitis, (bone loss, which means your gums recede away from the teeth exposing roots) some cavities, and a couple root canals and crowns will also be needed. it also means cleanings every 3 months and a deep cleaning every year. I am MORE thank OKAY with this. these ARE the only teeth I have! :D from the moment I came in, I was not made to feel inferior for my teeth's less than great condition... In fact, I was treated kindly, and with dignity and respect. Like a real human being unlike my prior experience I have learned so much, I never would have known.My gums are on road to recovery. My teeth are white, I have the BEST DENTIST there is, anywhere! They are GENTLE, (very important factor!!) KIND, Everything you ever wanted in dental care, Dr. Dehnert DOES. There is NO comparison to his work. TOP NOTCH. I went specificly to Leeant Mednick at Dhanert dental because my brother has seen her and said she was a good dentist. I went with my privious Xray of my cracked Tooth, that has been hurting and i needed to finally do something. It was obviously cracked in the X rays and i knew it to be cracked. She took her own X rays and dis counted mine stating the crack looked like a hair on the Xray ad it may not be a crack at all. She then convinced me the tooth wasnt cracked and the privious dentist i saw didnt know what he was doing and i JUST had a large caviety. $1200 later we fixed the big caviety and 4 small ones...i still had pain but she said it was a "big filling". WELL now here i am inCosta rica and i have had 5 days of in bed serious pain, and have seen a local dentist who again tells me i have a cracked toooth and very very bad pain because of it. Im upset but keep my cool and call the great Dr. Leean mednick at Dhanertt dental who said, "O well ya cracked tooth..that would be $250 for me to remove, IF you can fly all the way back from Costa Rica to Tucson". i hung up the phone...im just too upset to believe i would get treated like thats after she made a serious serious error and didnt identify a cracked molar....and drilled two filligs right on top of the crack. She is the worst dentist i have ever seen and need people to know.. she is hasty, doesnt take care and isnt slow and carefull. she is rude and shruged off the privious dentist i saw who said it was cracked. she then gave NO discount what so ever for the FIXing of HER error. worst dentist EVER!!! can not believe she hasnt had more bad reviews! I walked into Dehnert 3 years ago without having been to a dentist for 10 years--I was first greeted on the phone by a kind individual who helped me figure out my insurance. My experience only got better. The lady I spoke to on the phone and everyone in the office are professional, warm, and energetic! Checking in as a new patient was painless and efficient. My hygienist made me comfortable and with ease settled me in. Then there is Dr Mednick...Dr Mednick is one of those few health care professionals who sits down next to you, looks you in the eye, and engages you as a human being, not just a patient. From my first visit through all of my visits for cavities and annual check ups Dr Mednick patiently explained her thoughts and gently completed all procedures. While I am leaving Tucson one place I will truly miss is Dehnert--I know I was always in good hands there and received top notch affordable dental care. For that I am forever grateful. I need a couple fillings. Went to the Dr. and one of them was really deep. Dr. Dehnert showed me on the computer x-rays haw close I was to having a root canal. When it came time to have the filling done, he worked as slow as he could to help make sure that I didnt need a root canal. He explained that it might still need to have one but that it will be sensative for a couple days. It took almost 2 weeks but the tooth is good now. Everyone was great. I have been going to Dr. Mednick for at least 7 years. She is a great dentist, I find her thorough, knowledgeable and very personable with her patients. I have dental anxiety from a terrible dentist in the past and when I go to the dentist now I am very comfortable. The hygienists in this office are all top notch. They do an excellent job, explain everything, and are considerate about how I feel during treatment. I recently had an unusual dental/medical situation and was very thankful at Dr. Mednick's skill in treating me. Just like lots of people, I am sensitive to getting xrays all the time and I was always questioning why we do them. Now I get it, I had an unusual, silent tumor in my jawbone and Dr. Mednick found it on the big set of panorex xrays patients get every so many years. If we had not done the xrays it would have continued to grow and do damage until it made its presence known. What could have been a huge surgery, ended up being small because we found it early. During the treatment and referral process Dr. Mednick and her team were extremely helpful. I've had about 8 dentists in my lifetime, Dr. Mednick is the best. read more

I waited a year and switched insurance to get into this practice, and I'm so glad I did. The staff is kind, punctual, professional, and highly skilled, and Dr. Dehnert, whom I see, has exceptional skill and goes beyond all expectations in caring for his patients, as my story illustrates. I saw John Dehnert to repair two root canals done a few years ago by another dentist in Maryland. I had developed a toothache, and when I came in, Dr. Dehnert said he had been looking at my records and felt almost certain there was an infection in these root canals, which he had put on his "watch list." His hypothesis was confirmed by x-rays. He answered all my questions about treatment completely, without rushing. When I came in for treatment, Dr. Dehnert said, a few minutes into it, that he thought he was seeing the top of a broken instrument in my root canal. This was shortly confirmed by X-ray. There was a long, thin, metal piece of a broken dental instrument embedded in my root; the previous dentist had not told me he had broken a tool and left part of it in my jaw! Dr. Dehnert said it was very difficult to remove a broken instrument under these conditions, but there was "one trick" he could try. He called another assistant to set up an ultrasound machine. He wasn't satisfied with the first machine, so he asked for a second to be set up. He explained to a student at Pima College who was observing that repairing a root canal was one of the longest procedures, because one "had to be meticulous." Indeed, Dr. Dehnert was. Patiently he worked around the embedded instrument until, several minutes later, he was able to pull it out, loosened by the ultrasound. It was at least half an inch long! After two and a half hours only one tooth was done due to this complication, and Dr. Dehnert gave me the option to come back another day or finish the second tooth. I elected to go ahead and finish the second repair. I asked Dr. Dehnert if that would inconvenience him, and he said it was his lunch hour but he was happy to do it if I wanted. The second tooth proved difficult as well because of a very calcified, 18 mm root. The procedure took all of Dr. Dehnert's lunch hour, but he finished as carefully as he had begun. Then he had an assistant give me ibuprofen before I left, explaining I would be sore from the extensive work he had done and need to take medication for at least one-two days. That afternoon Dr. Dehnert called to check on how I was feeling and left his cell phone in case I needed to call him. The following morning one of the assistants called me as well to check on me. The assistant, Cheyenne, who worked with Dr. Dehnert, also could not have been better. When I began to panic and feel like I was gagging every few seconds early into the procedure, she suggested breathing through my nose to minimize that sensation, and it worked! She was also very patient and skillful, despite working 4 straight hours on my mouth with Dr. Dehnert. It's important to trust your dentist. Dr. Dehnert has my complete trust. read more

well I guess if I would have known going to the dentist was going to be this painless, I wouldn't have waited two years to go! being a military spouse, it's hard moving around so much and having to relocate your records and find a dentist that accepts tricare's version of a dependent's dental insurance. However, Kelly was amazing! I called and she literally took care of everything! all I had to do was provide the SSN of my hubby and she said not to worry about anything. she even called when someone cancelled and I was able to get in a week early. AND when I got referred to a oral surgeon, I showed up, oblivious to the fact that I would have needed to bring my records (duh) but Dehnert (Kelly again?) Dental had already sent the records over! both trips (one for X-rays, the other for cleaning) here were pleasant and I never even had time to pick out a magazine to read or play in their cool sand thing before my name was called. Even his lecture ("um, go to the dentist more than once every 5 years, OK?) was plenty calm.
