They had several empty tables and the bar area was almost empty. While waiting I had plenty of time to notice how run down and dingy it is inside. When I looked in the bar it smelled musty. We talked to another couple at the RV park we are staying at and they had the same experience.

Although it was raining and windy we got off the cruise ship and walked about 15 minutes to this restaurant located adjacent to a small boat harbor. I was surprised more cruise ship passengers didn't stop in here to experience this adorable little slice of old west Americana. We arrived soaking wet and were thankful to have a nice quiet, toasty and warm space nearly all to ourselves. Here's a few things we loved: Views: unobstructed view with small boats, and great view of the cruise ship in port that dwarfed everything else in the area. Peace and Tranquility: after being on the endlessly noisy cruise ship it was almost jarringly quiet in here with the soft rain and gray clouds outside we enjoyed the fact we were about the only patrons in here and could have a nice conversation over a cup of coffee without yelling to hear each other and no constant clanking of dishes. Service: prompt, courteous, super nice polite waitress. All our food came out quickly, hot and exactly as ordered. Food: we ordered the halibut n chips, chowder and shrimp. The halibut was fresh, and perfectly breaded, with a light beer type batter, crispy on outside and juicy on inside. Tartar sauce was on point! Fries/chips were as expected. Chowder was rich and had good flavor also. Shrimp cocktail as expected. Of course the halibut was the star of the show as expected. Do yourself a favor, when in Alaska you must always order whatever fresh local fish they have no matter what! Beer: we had the Alaska White beers on tap and they paired quite well with the fried halibut! Overall we loved this place, primarily for the quiet ambience, and super fresh halibut. If we ever get back to Haines we want to come back to this restaraunt for sure, and would love to try the attached bar and pool table room which looks quite cozy but was closed at the time we visited. Looks very "Wild West" cozy with great Alaska beer selections as well!

After reading the Yelp reviews and seeing the photos, I decided to give this place a try. Our…read moreexcursion guide had recommended another restaurant, but the food here looked much more appealing and the reviews were stronger. It also appeared to be a newer restaurant, which caught my attention. After dropping my things off at the cruise ship, I walked from the Broadway Dock to the corner of 4th and State Street. The walk took about 10 minutes and was very easy as it was mostly a straight shot past shops and other businesses. The restaurant is located next to a food truck that I had also seen reviews for. I wasn't entirely sure if they were affiliated, but they're right next to each other. The restaurant itself is in a small house-style building where you order at the counter. There is an enclosed seating area with curtains and heaters, as well as an outdoor patio with picnic-table seating. It was a beautiful day, so the heaters weren't really needed, but it was nice to have the option. I ordered the smoked salmon dip and the halibut sandwich. The salmon dip was decent, but not my favorite. It had a nice smoky flavor, but it was a little dry for my taste. The day before, I had salmon dip during our glacier excursion that was much creamier, almost like a salmon salad with a hint of Old Bay seasoning, served with Ritz crackers. That version set a high bar. Here, the dip was served with cracker-style chips, which I didn't enjoy quite as much, and the texture wasn't as creamy as I prefer. The halibut sandwich, however, was excellent. The fish was fresh, lightly breaded with panko, and fried perfectly. It was served on fresh French bread that held up well without becoming soggy. The sandwich included a vinegar-based slaw with fresh cabbage, oregano, and tartar sauce, all of which complemented the fish beautifully. The halibut was mild and flavorful. I wasn't even sure I liked halibut before this meal, but I suspect I've never had it this fresh. It completely changed my opinion. My only criticism is the portion size. The piece of halibut was fairly small, and at around $27, it felt a bit pricey. That said, seafood is expensive, and being right off a cruise port, I wasn't expecting bargain pricing. The quality was definitely there. The fries were also very good...crispy, well-seasoned, and a great side to the sandwich. Overall, I left satisfied, though not overly full. The food was fresh, the atmosphere was comfortable, and the location was convenient for cruise passengers. I would absolutely recommend this spot and would seek it out again if I return on another Alaska cruise.

This one is a longer walk away from the tourist trap of the main city. They do have taxi's that don't cost much to get you around if needed. The Poki bowl was absolutely amazing. The salmon was so fresh and delicious. The fried salmon I had was awesome as well and very flavorful. This is a rustic outdoor eatery only. Seating can be crowded if arriving at a rush our time frame fro lunch or dinner. It's well worth it. They also have local beers and ciders that they serve in some amazing glasses. You have to purchase the glasses if you want to take them home. They sale the glasses, shirts, stickers, etc at the shop. It's a hidden gem, well worth the trip and time to experience the food.

Everyone is here as there are 3 cruise ships in port today but, Skagway Brewing Company is down off the Main Street so it was quiet and it was also before 11am. Cute place! Quite large with dining upstairs and down with a bar upstairs too. I loved the sign by the bathroom. They have a balcony that is only for drinking. . Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and a cool interior. We walked right in and were greeted friendly and sent upstairs where we immediately sat down. Our waitress was nice and took good care of us. I ordered the blackened southwest salad with halibut. OH MY GOODNESS! Their salad dressing is house made, the blackening spices they used on the halibut is house made AND they have an aeroponic garden so all their greens are grown right there and are the freshest and tastiest I've ever had! Now, I have to say, if you are in Alaska, GET HALIBUT!! I have to confess halibut is my absolute favorite fish so I died and went to heaven. Excellent salad! I ate every single bite and I got the full salad. Totally worth it. I also got their house made root beer that came in a super frosty mug and was delicious!! My husband got the beer flight that has four 2 oz beer pours. He also got the Brewer's Alaskan Halibut fish and chips. The fish was so hot and fresh he had to wait to eat for a bit! The fries were super tasty, crisp outside and perfectly cooked inside. He enjoyed his beers too! I'm a bit sad we won't be back in Skagway as I would eat here again! If you come to town, eat here. Do it. You will be very thankful! Also they have cute gift shop with swag on the first floor. Thanks Skagway Brewing Company!!

I was trying to get some souvenirs and she told me a couple spots to check out and held my table while I went across the street! I wanted something fresh and local and they're a great place for that. It's her parents restaurant and her mom grows herbs that they use in dishes. Olivia travels a lot so it was serendipitous that I actually got to meet her! Seemed like a spot a lot of the locals hang at, felt very homey, Cheers type everyone knows your name place with delicious food! I did a Rojito, seafood pasta and a side of crostini. The drink was so refreshing! I remember her mom was involved with its creation and of course it's her fresh grown mint! The pasta had huge chunks of very tasty seafood! Outside of being here (AK) I probably wouldn't order something like that but I'm glad I did. The pasta was delicious and the seafood was fresh. The crostini's were so good too. I hear they have great desserts but we shared a fry bread earlier and there was just no room for more. I got a shirt bc I couldn't not. I truly loved it here. Such a chill, kind vibe. If ever in Skagway I'll be back. Thank you to Olivia and team for more than making me feel welcomed.
