there was a piece of plastic in my sandwich and they gave me a hard roll after saying I had a gluten allergy. then when I went to tell her about the error she said they don't have anything gluten free. gave my boyfriend the wrong sandwich. took 20 minutes to get two wrong orders. one of which wasn't edible. seriously disappointing and a waste of $30 for two sandwiches. read more

Best Bagels In Connecticut! Drove by this place a bunch of times on the Boston Post Road in Guilford. I finally decided to give it a try. The bagels are like nothing I've had before. They are amazing! Great flavors and so much lighter that you can eat two. Also, check out the toppings. These aren't just sprinkles of toppings. The everything bagel is more like EVERYTHING and the kitchen sink. If you haven't tried this place your missing out. Gonna try the Niantic store when I'm in the area. read more

After living in NYC for many years before moving to coastal Connecticut, we have had trouble finding a really good bagel. We like Olmo in New Haven (by Yale), but we were looking for something a little further east. We found Deke's Bagels in Guilford and were really glad to have done so. Fantastic bagels! For me, cinnamon raising with plain cream cheese. For my wife, a rosemary olive (I know!) bagel with plain cream cheese. Interestingly there is corn meal on the bottom of the bagels, but who cares! Not exactly NYC bagels, but excellent on their own. They have drip coffee, only a few seats at a bar at the window and some fancier combinations of bagels with toppings that are beyond my palate. I was excited that there was a proper bagel shop in town--- and had hoped it would be similar to another well known bagel shop a town over. I arrived knowing full well that there would probably be shortages of certain choices bc it was Saturday, AND that the line would possibly be long. We lucked out in arriving just before an influx of people which was great... There wasn't much left for choices (but I was ok with that considering it was just before noon-- this is too be expected, an I right?), but we were able to order something each for the 3 of us. We decided to eat in the car, so once I got everyone setup I didn't got to mine... There was lettuce on it and it was wilted and tasted odd. The bagel itself was decent, but before I could even say anything my son says "so this isn't REALLY GOOD, but it IS kinda good" Took the words right outta my mouth. Overall, not a bad place, looks like there's a bunch of high school employees which is great for the community, but don't think I would go out if my way to come back. read more

My diet wishes I never knew you existed. Every other part of me is screaming halleluiah! Last week, my son nonchalantly asked me, 'Have you been to Deke's Bagels?' WHAT??? A bagel place I didn't know about? How did that happen? He said, 'It's pretty good.' All I could think about is when I could get there... Finally in Guilford for an appt I headed to Deke's to see for myself. I was like a kid in a candy store. I thought I'd decided what I wanted only to see one incredible flavor/variety of bagel next to the other. Rosemary/olive, Poppy Seed (covered in so many seeds you'd surely fail a drug test), Roasted Garlic and more. If that weren't enough, behind the bagel line-up are more sweet treats: muffins, scones, cookies, croissants and DIRT BOMBS. I couldn't help myself; I ordered a toasted Garlic Bagel with plain cream cheese (although there were some very interesting flavors available for another time perhaps: Berry, Bacon Horseradish and Salmon to name a few) and a DIRT BOMB. Covered in sugar and cinnamon, like a donut, I took a small bite while I waited for the bagel. Crispy goodness outside, moist and cakey inside, I was glad I did. I was a bit disappointed that Deke's doesn't serve decaf coffee; I was literally craving a good cup of Joe to go with my bagel. But I soon forgot that thought...hot bag in hand, I headed to my car to enjoy (there's no indoor seating). The first bite was heaven (as were the rest); a crispy crust encased a warm doughy center that was perfectly flavored with roasted garlic and topped with cream cheese. Like many places, they can be short on staff, but if you have the time, it's worth the wait. If you don't, plan for your next trip now! I for one can't wait to go back to try one of their breakfast sandwiches, a pastry or two, and to grab a bag of assorted day old bagels for home. Great Job Deke! read more

Excellent bagels. Chewy and bouncy on the inside, a bit of crunch on the outside. The cream cheese (I only ever get plain) is also very good. The only critique I have is that sometimes the bagels can be slightly overdone. Breakfast sandwiches are not bad but it's the bagels that I keep coming back for. And if you want popular flavors like sesame or cinnamon raisin, you should try to get there early-ish. By mid-morning they are sometimes sold out. Clean, modern interior with bagels on display and a counter at the window but no indoor or outdoor seating. read more

I agree with and can corroborate some of the negative service aspects mentioned by Valerie R. and Luke P. I have been here a few times over the past two years and it has been the same across. The bagels are good and the staff are usually very nice, but they are a little slow and disorganized. They do not have a good system for tracking and updating their supplies for their in person and online orders. Two different times I had ordered online and arrived to have them let me know the orders were not done because they had run out of the bagels I had requested for my sandwiches. I picked different bagels, which was fine and I am fortunate enough to not be limited by allergies. I felt like it defeated the purpose of ordering ahead though because I then had to sit and wait for the sandwiches. This happened two different times and the last time I was there, a few months ago, I heard them calling a customer to let them know they needed to change their online order as they were out of the bagel requested in the order. Still seems to be an issue. I would be fine with all of this if their sandwiches were not so expensive. Their prices are higher than many of the other spots I have been too with the same or better quality bagels and promptness. I like the other Deke's location. I just hope they can pick up some of that efficiency. read more

Artisan bagels is starting to mean nice flavors, but not too big. Deke's staff is very nice and the bagels are ok, but nothing great. Especially disappointing was the salt bagel which lacked much in the way of salt. Onion and everything were very tasty. Bagel hole much too large, and we all know that the smaller the hole, the better the bagel, right? 2 locations, but only 1 does the baking, so this location never has truly FRESH bagels, like some of the better places, like AM in Derby. read more

At last! A decent bagel on the shoreline! I've been struggling with Trader Joe's bagels for far too long. These are not only tasty but have that chew a bagel needs. I only wish they made pumpernickel ones. Of well. Their other baked goods seem pretty good too, but not what I've been searching for. Nice to have a good local bagel shop. Took me a while to find. Great staff. Clean store. Really overpriced bagels. I bought 6 and it cost $10. Had one while fresh, toasted with butter. Sliced and froze the rest. Compares to Cohen's, and pretty good. New York style bagel. Can't by 6 of one kind. Not happy about that. I like their bagels, really. I've tried to order food at the Guilford location more than a handful of times, whether online, over the phone or in person. Often, they are closed during "business hours." I would literally drive there after no answer and online ordering doesn't work, or shows everything is out of stock. I would be let down. I'm writing this review because I want their bagels right now. It's Sunday and says they're open, but of course they are not answering and online ordering isn't working. Quite simply some of the best bagels and homemade cream cheese on the Shoreline. As an early morning landscaper, I've sampled basically all of the hot spots from West Haven to Old Saybrook. Delicious bagels! The Guilford location opened just last week. We came around 9am and there was already a line out the door. They were already sold out of several flavors by the time we arrived so be sure to come early. Most of the bagel flavors are savory with only cinnamon raisin and french toast for sweet, but there's a lot of other sweet pastry options too. read more

I was in Connecticut for thanksgiving week and I'd never been to Connecticut so my girlfriend and her mom recommended this restaurant. So we got there and as we walk in, it just smells so great, the different smells of bagels and other baked goods made my mouth water. I got the square on a red pepper feta bagel and a dirt bomb. I was glad I did, because the dirt bomb was amazing and the breakfast sandwich was made with such good quality while being scrumptious! Great costumer service, high quality food for a reasonable price and this has to be one of THE BEST breakfast's I have had in my life! If you're in the area you have to go here! read more
