First visit to Pasta Avest was a really pleasant experience. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Penne at the recommendation of our server. Tender chunks of chicken in a perfectly prepared dish of penne pasta served in a Gorgonzola cream sauce with just the right amount of buffalo sauce to enhance the favor without being too spicy! It was delightful! My wife had the chicken Marsala which was fresh, light, fork tender and flavorful rather than be in a heavy "gravy" type sauce. The dining room is small and quaint but clean and comfortable.

Yesterday was the first time I ordered from Pasta Avest. I ordered 2 items: Small Veggie Bomb pizza: $18.00 and a side of sausage: $6.50 priced according to the PDF menu on the website. The actual charges when ordering were increased: Small Veggie Bomb pizza: $21.75 Side of sausage: $7.95 ($5.20 more than expected) In addition there were 2 additional surcharges that took me by surprise: Small order fee: $1.99 extra Distance to deliver fee: $2.99 (I live near the High School!) ($4.98 more) Gratuity was automatically added but I was able to modify it to a lesser amount. Phew - an extra $10.18. Ouch. The Veggie pizza was just ok ....The side of sausage tasted dry. My total VISA bill was $42.21 which I think was costly for what I ordered. If you never ate there before I would encourage you to try it as there are many good reviews. I doubt if I would ever order again, as once was enough for me.

    Family celebration (30 guests).

5/4/24 We had a party at the restaurant (upstairs). The staff (Sarah {owner} & Tyler{Mgr.}), were OUTSTANDING!!! Extremely easy to plan with re: food selections, amounts of food, set up of room to accommodate our guests (30) & checking on us during the event. Sarah came upstairs w/ hot fried dough w/ Nutella drizzle which were amazing & unexpectedly, decided to walk around to serve our guests at the tables! Sarah & Tyler were constantly checking in w/ my wife & I, when they came up to check on us. The room was spacious & VERY clean. It was decorated w/ our choice of linen tablecloths. We were allowed to come in the night before & decorate for our event. The upstairs also had its own restroom. This was appreciated as we had some older guests who needed assistance w/ stairs to 2nd floor. Sarah also assisted some guests w/ their walkers. Food was accessible to ALL in an orderly manner to keep guests flowing. The food was DELICIOUS! We had several types of panini's (halved), stuffed breads, 2 types of pasta, & garlic/cheese rolls. We were allowed to bring our beverages in w/ coolers & it was much appreciated & saved us extra $. Overall, we will be back as will many of our guests, who LOVED the experience at this restaurant. From start to finish, it was a great event at Pasta Avest! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND their upstairs room & of course their food. What seals the deal is their customer service & friendly professionalism. This is hard to find at many restaurants! GRADE: A+ BRENT AIKEN No. Branford

Pizzaiolo Luis makes a great pizza!! We got to see him making a few pizzas and it was a real treat watching the whole process. You'll find Wood-Fired Neapolitan, New Haven & Sicilian Style Pizza at Pasta Avest and Pizzeria and they're not just pasta and pizza. They've got Subs, Paninis, Italian Classics & Fresh Salads too! The Buffalo Chicken pizza was one of my favorites! I really enjoyed their bread pudding and cookies too! The owners and staff are so friendly and there is such an at home feel when you walk through the door. We had a blast and if you're in the Guilford area, don't sleep on Pasta Avest. This is most definitely a local business that you want to support and see thrive. P.S. Did you know? A Pizzaiolo is a chef who specializes in making pizzas and who has been trained to make real, Italian-style pizzas.

Pasta Avest is an adorable spot where you'll feel like family as soon as you walk in the door! One of our favorite parts about the menu was the ability to customize your own pasta dish from a variety of pastas, sauces, and proteins. I wish more places did this! I also thought it was unique that Pasta Avest offers New Haven, Neapolitan, and Sicilian style pizzas. You don't typically see a place offer all three, and it's nice that to have a selection to choose from! The pesto cream sauce is out of this world, and so is their house made focaccia bread. I could eat both all day long! If you're coming in for a quick bite, you can grab a slice at the counter, or one of their prepped meals or salads. Don't miss the bread pudding or warm chocolate chip cookies for dessert!

Under new ownership as of a few years ago, this place is a great Guilford spot! Definitely order the garlic bread with a side of vodka sauce! The pizza with meat sauce was also out of this world! And not pictured, but the chocolate chip cookies are homemade by the owner, and a must have! Highly recommend!

Cool place with awesome food... Pizza, salad, soup and stuffed breads and coffe shop also. Dont forget to BYOB!

Love this quaint spot with indoor & patio seating. Pizza, soup & calzones we had were awesome. Great prices. BYOB but they do have a coffee ahop here as well. Great local place.

Decent take out. A little pricy but decent in the clutch. Got a number of the pasts dishes, a small margarita pizza and a salad.

While I can't speak for everyone else's experience, I can speak to my own, and I was extremely disappointed with the level of service we received. especially regarding food allergies and the zero percent effort put into finding additional information from the kitchen. When looking over the menu, I asked our waiter whether the pesto contained pine nuts because I have a tree nut allergy. He responded in an annoyed tone that he didn't know and simply told me not to order it. He didn't offer to ask the kitchen or try to find the answer, which was especially surprising considering he had just asked if anyone had questions about the menu. Since I still wanted to know if the pesto was safe, I walked up to the host stand where three employees were standing. I asked the same question, and one of the women immediately replied, "No, of course not. There are no nuts in pesto." When I asked if she was sure, she confidently said they never make it with nuts. It was clear from her reaction that she wasn't actually certain.... she simply wasn't familiar with the fact that traditional pesto often contains pine nuts. (Which is fine if you don't know but please, please ask instead of assuming!) At that point I mentioned to everyone that I carry an EpiPen because I have an allergy. Only then did she say, "Actually, let me ask the kitchen." She returned a moment later and informed me that yes, the pesto did in fact contain pine nuts. Food allergies are NOT preferences they can be life-threatening. It's alarming that staff members were willing to answer so confidently without actually verifying the information first or further more to not even have a care in the world to ask for me and told me to order something else? I hope Cafe Fiore takes this as an opportunity to better educate staff on food allergies and the importance of checking with the kitchen whenever there is any uncertainty. Instead of answering blindly. A simple question about ingredients should never be treated as an inconvenience, and guests should be able to trust that the information they're given is accurate when their health depends on it. It is not a big ask. Simply go ask the kitchen. Overall the food was just okay, the inside however seemed clean and well taken care of but I will not be returning. No meal is worth wondering whether the information you're being given is accurate. When a guest asks about an allergen, the only acceptable answer is one that has been verified with the kitchen.... not a guess. Someone else's life could depend on it.

What a disappointing dining experience. Cafe Allegre, formally Cafe Lafayette was once Madison's…read moreequivalent to the " Gris" in Essex. I had countless delicious meals over the years here with my parents and grandparents. While here in Connecticut Bruce and I decided to dine here this evening. We like to dine out often and love the variety of options here in Connecticut. We had high hopes for Cafe Allegre. What a miserable experience and a total rip off. We opted not to have any alcohol and instead had two hot teas. We ordered the artichokes for a starter. A scattering of over fried dry lumps, no sauce with a minuscule piece of parsley and a small piece of shaved carrot. Bruce and I ordered the Ceasar salad with a double portion of chicken. Although the waitress said the salad was entree size portions, the amount of salad, tasteless rubbery chicken all served on a small luncheon size plate was shameful. $12.99 for the salad and $8.99 for a half a bite of extra chicken! I had the waitress remove my meal and she took it off our tab. I was expecting her to bring something else out or give me a menu but she never bothered. Evidently she thought I said I didn't want anything else. By the time she returned, Bruce had finished his salad. Really? The waitress thought I was fine just sitting there with no dinner? Needless to say her tip was equivalent to the service. So for $66.51, with no alcohol and no dessert, just one luncheon size salad, this was a supreme rip off. When a dish is returned to the kitchen the manager should have gotten off his ass to come over and address the problem and to see how to rectify the experience. Nothing. I left hungry and angry. Rest assured a scathing review will be left on Yelp along with my phoning the owner to voice my displeasure. Now perhaps this post comes across as my being an arrogant demanding patron. Bruce and I have had some amazing dinners and also some less than wonderful. I always try to cut the restaurant some slack. Food services is not an easy job. But when you charge these prices it's important that they know when customers are displeased.
