I spoke with the server Nelly and I wanted to know what style as in what region do they represent in their cooking. She mentioned owners are from Guanajuato Mexico and bring those flavors to the restaurant. I have personally visited this region and yes !! I can taste it in their dishes. Guanajuato is known for their culinary taste and style and you will fall in love with their flavors. So if you are near Dade City or just willing to take the ride to experience Guanajuato flavors in Florida, Del Carmen will not disappoint!!!!! Del Carmen was our local go to for all things Mexican food. I had a taste for it since I had been in Dade City earlier in the week, so we decided to go. We both ordered sopes which was our fave here. I ordered one, and my husband ordered the sopes platter with two sopes, rice, & beans, I took his beans with my single sopes. This time the steak tasted different and the flavor wasn't all there. It was ok but definitely have had better ones now. They use to include guacamole too. That's long gone. We ordered a horchata and pineapple agua frescas. Of course these are more expensive and much smaller now. Service was ok but difficult to locate our server. It wasn't too busy either bc it was early in the week. Not sure if we will be back here much. Now I still want more sopes bc this one didn't fill my taste buds for it. Ambiance was loud and echoey with two parties. When we arrived it took the server a few minutes to greet us. When we got sat she was super friendly and took our drink order. A few minutes later she came back with the drinks and we ordered our food. Our meals came out quick, about a 10 minute wait. The food was mediocre. I didn't really love the beef burrito and the components of the burrito really relied on each other (and the sauce) to make it taste good. The beans were really flat in my opinion, very under seasoned. This is on the Main Street of Dade City and is attached to a Mexican store. We were seated right away. It's cute inside with painted wall scenery, brightly painted tables and chairs. Our server had a great personality. She was pretty busy so not as attentive as she could have been, but it was average. The food was a major disappointment. The chips are thick and bland. Salsa was runny. I had the house burrito with chicken. It was huge, but there were huge chunks of chicken, chewy and bland. It should have been shredded. Coke products but no Coke Zero. Huge drink cups but the beverages are $3.99 each. They had a dinger there in traditional Mexican attire but it was so loud it was difficult to have a conversation. I would not return. read more

Had a very good lunch at Del Carmen. Betsy, our server, was charming and efficient. I had the Tamale Platter. It came out fast and HOT! The pork tamales with Red Sauce were on point and came with fluffy rice and homemade refried beans. Will definitely be back! read more

The place is delicious and huge . They also have a grocery store attached where they sell meats , veggies and lots of goodies . The location is big and clean . The service was great from the front of the house to the servers. We had a chorizo cheese dip trio it was delicious. My chicken burrito was amazing just great flavor and served hot . Sadly some place have great food and the food isn't hot or just room temperature and that kills it but not here . Zero complaints with our meal or service. My husband chicken fajita he said was very flavorful and he was happy he got few tortillas some place give you like 2 or 3 here they have 5 tortillas and he was in heaven . First time at Del Carmen. I was very excited to try this place because my cousin has been here many times and highly recommended it. We actually came here together and it lived up to all the hype :) I get a sense/feel for a place as soon as I walk in. When I walked into Del Carmen I immediately felt "home". This place doubles as a market AND restaurant!!! We walked in through the back and they have EVERYTHING that screams Mexico ! A plethora of things/options! From piñatas hanging from the ceiling to artisan gifts/ceramics, Mexican candy... and more. They have a "takeout" window as soon as you walk in and a section for indoor/sit in dining.I ventured off after eating and it just kept getting better. They have a small section with fresh made "pan dulce" (bread) and a ramp that leads to a "meat shop"...oh but there's more! Lol....behind that there's another section with cowboy hats, boots and traditional (Mexican)women and men's clothing. I mean, they have it ALL. I was in awe! Ok, let's get to the food because it was very delicious. As a Mexican who actually grew up visiting Mexico earth summer and had home cooked traditional/from scratch Mexican meals, I'm not picky but definitely selective. They have a pretty extensive menu. I had the chicken mole and it was actually VERY delicious. The salsa for the chips was a bit watery and bland for my taste but overall the mole being that good made up for it. Their horchata is also very yummy. I like it with a bit more cinnamon but it was still very good. Service was very prompt despite it being crowded for lunch! I will definitely be returning and before finishing my review I must say the ambiance/decor/aesthetic was my absolute favorite! I love the colorful vibrance that is so true to our culture. The customer service was amazing. The waitress was friendly and helpful with us even after taking a little than longer in deciding what to eat. The menu all looks delicious! My husband and I had the the fajitas sampler (steak, chicken , and shrimp) for two and it was a lot food! The steak, shrimp and chicken were all soft and tender and juicy. My husband had a Modelo beer and I had a lemonade. Everything was brought out in a timely manner. The margaritas the other patrons were having did look good though!! The ambience for a Saturday evening was excellent! There were both small and large groups eating and the music was not loud. My favorite part of this restaurant aside from the food was the decor. The booths, chairs and the paintings on the walls were all authentic Mexican decor. I definitely recommend eating at Del Carmen if you are in the area. I've had this spot book marked for so many years and just finally got the opportunity to get in the area and give it a try. Located an a cute downtown centric area, I had no problem finding parking on the street on a Sunday afternoon. This is a restaurant / bodega so don't forget to stop in the attached store after your meal. Plenty of seating, this is a pretty spacious restaurant. I was seated immediately. Service was friendly albeit a bit slow. Pisole is served on the weekends so I had to go for a bowl. It was a large serving for $13.99 easily enough to take home some for lunch the next day. The broth is rich with chicken flavor. This has definitely been stewing for hours. The chicken itself was not flavorful and a tad bit dry but the Verde soup and hominy was really good. I also ordered three tacos with rice and beans to take home. Wash all this down with a Modelo especial and I call it a good meal. They have beautiful frescos on all of the walls, and all of the chairs & tables are painted differently. Their chips & salsa were so good. Service was excellent. I went here for lunch with my daughter . The place was not busy. It took a while for our food to come and when it did it was cold . The chicken in my burrito was so tough I couldn't chew it and the sauce over it tasted like ravioli sauce . I mentioned to my server who seen I only tried a bite she only said sorry and walked away. They nickel and dime you to death! My daughter's quesadilla came with a little tiny squirt of sour cream, we asked for more and they charged $1.99 for some extra... I got a bean taco, beans in a flour tortilla, that's it - $5 and it came out mildly warm, by the time they brought me the sauce to go on it 10 minutes later -stone cold. Lastly, my daughter ordered veggie fajitas, it came with weird vegetables like carrots and celery?!? So no protein, just some random veggies and some flour tortillas - $18.99 !!!!! I don't remember the chips being that thick. It didn't taste good. They gave us 2 bowls of salsa, we thought one was spicy and the other is not spicy, but they were the same. We've enjoyed Del Carmen every time we visit this area from San Diego, several times a year for the past 4 years. We love the look of the place, we buy groceries, and the food's been excellent. And this last time was a disappointment. The hostess seemed unhappy to be there, the margaronas (which we looked forward to!) were undrinkably sweet, the music way too loud, the chips were rock hard, and 3 of our 4 dishes were inferior. It is a restaurant? It is a grocery store? It is Cowboys store? Del Carmen is all three. Del Carmen has many face depends which corner you turn. I would consider this is the Disneyland in Dade City. I was impressed with the grocery store at the main entrance. Once you are in there, the piñata is decorated over your head. There are some sundry fruit candy display on the side. They also have the fried pork skin by the weight also. The Cowboys section is located on the right of the grocery section. They carry the cowboys booth, hat, dress and more. You can try to yew haw a day here since they have the cowboys products. The restaurant is the major attraction in this store. The wall is paint with Mexican scene. The decorations is crazy. I like the painted wall with amingo. I have ordered the grill tilapia with rice and bean. It is delicious. I also order the watermelon juice that is very refreshing. This was an interesting establishment. When I was researching it I wasn't sure if it was a grocery store or a restaurant. Turns out that it's both! I was meeting some other people here and was the first to arrive so I had some time to poke around the grocery store. Near the front door they had coolers full of frozen treats and ice cream. The thing that really caught my eye was the chamoyadas. I was too full when I left to have one, but now I regret not trying one anyway. They looked really good. The restaurant seats a lot of people. Before your entrée comes out they bring you chips and salsa. I liked the salsa, but the chips were too thick and hard for my taste. I got a grilled chicken breast and really enjoyed it. The flavor was excellent and they gave me a lot of rice and beans on the side. The bathroom situation was pretty dreadful. For the entire restaurant there is only one toilet. Not only was the sink clogged, but the only way to wash your hands was with a bar of soap. Gag. I was initially confused about where to park to come here. If you look at a satellite view of it you'll see that there is actually a very large parking lot behind it. Head for that if you're coming here. read more

I am so sorry to only give three stars. It is because I found my food to be mostly disappointing. But first I'll tell you what I found to be good. The decor is outstanding, the chairs are comfortable and the ladies room was super clean. We had a long wait for the table but chairs outdoors were provided and I much appreciate that. Now the reason I gave this three stars, burned tamale and earsplitting loud noise! I ordered my usual but ordered it ala cart. One Chile Relleno and one tamale. The tamale was burned.....inedible. I'll attach a picture. Haw can a restaurant allow something burned to leave the kitchen? The Chile relleno was ok. Too much fried coating on it so I could not taste the poblano pepper at all. I ended up giving half of it to my husband, he said he liked it. The Chile Relleno was dressed beautifully with a nice red sauce and sour cream and some cut up lettuce. The sauce and lettuce were the highlights of the dish. Needless to say I left the restaurant hungry. There were chips and salsa served but not the kind I like, the chips were too crunchy, they looked homemade but seemed like maybe they were baked or fried too long. My friends liked them though and ordered a second basket of chips. The three people I was with didn't complain about the food but then again, I didn't verbally complain so I don't know if they liked it. The restaurant is very very loud. In order to talk we had to shout at the tops of our lungs and even then had to repeat what we were saying. I assume everyone in the restaurant was trying to shout loud enough to be heard over the music. They had a really great duo playing music but they were very loud and when they took a break, recorded music was put on the loudspeakers at an ear splitting volume. I will say that the price was very good so that is why they at least deserve three stars. This restaurant has so much potential to be great because with such beautiful decor and comfortable chairs and cleanliness they have something good going on. I've only been here once, but I loved their shredded Beef Sopes so much that I'm throwing out the 5 star rating. Order Guacamole with those. Just automatically order for no good reason. Eat it with everything. Why not? Guacamole makes food go from great to awesome. I think most people would agree with that. Like other reviewers have said, there is a grocery store attached in a whole separate room. You will not be sitting inside the actual grocery store like some places FYI. This restaurant is comfortable, spacious and has a nice Mexico feel besides the Coca-Cola Plastic cups that read something about having mmm mmm tasty Ribs. Are those from Sonnys BBQ?
