Pains me to write this, after 15+ years of rave reviews. I knew the original owners and still friends with many of the staff (John - Manager, Walter - Chips & others) - I will really miss them! The food quality has gone notably downhill after giving them 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th chances the last 12-18 months... but it's just not good. Taco salads minus the meat, over-cooked/under-seasoned chicken fajitas and rubbery Chile rellenos (today!) - Too long under the broiler....there wasn't even 1 good bite. The chips are good, but they were out of Modelo Especial three times of the last 4 visits, so I can't even say the beer is good. Sadly I don't think I'll give it a 6th chance and move on. Don't you love good surprises? Yeah, me too. I'm a long fan of Vallarta's... and had been to most locations-except for two. This was one of them. For some reason, I never seemed to be in the area during margarita hours. That changed on Saturday, when we met up here for a weekend wind-down. It's bigger inside than you think-with a large dining room and a roomy separate bar area. I love the colorful Mexican-inspired tables and the tile on the room divider. There's a fun and festive vibe flowing in here. I'm very familiar with the Vallarta's menu and knew I wanted the cheese dip. You can use the complimentary chips (that come with salsa) for dipping, but I was craving the warm, soft tortillas---totally worth the extra $1.50 for three of them. I could have been full on that, but couldn't resist ordering one of the combos. For $16.95 (as of June 2026), I had a taco (beef/crunchy), an enchilada (cheese with verde sauce) and a chile poblano (no tomato sauce on top). What an amazing mix of flavors and textures-so tasty and filling, I took more than half of it home. That taco was stuffed with well-cooked beef, crunchy fresh lettuce and their yummy white cheese. Divine! The verde sauce had tons of spice and a depth of flavor. And the stuffed and battered poblano was huge! This is a massive value for money... and so satisfying! And the adorable sun shaped lime wedge on the margarita... sensational!!! That's their Instagram moment... and such a fun extra. So, I expected the solid food and fun atmosphere. But the service took this to the next level. Carlos was so accommodating. He really listened-made great suggestions-always picked the perfect moment to check in. He brought a plastic bag with the box for leftovers-and even a container for the remaining queso. His kindness and thoughtfulness is so appreciated-and elevated this experience. Bravo-and thank you. This location is in a bustling strip mall, on the south side of SR 54... just west of Wesley Chapel (the Caribou Coffee Shop is right in front of it-and there's a Trampoline jumping place next door). First time here and was pretty impressed. As usual they offered chips and salsa that was pretty good. Personally wish it had a little more of a bite but that's just me! I ordered the Grande Burrito. Great size and packed full of meat and other filling. They offer 2 different sauces for topping so of course I went with both half and half. One was more tangy and lite bite to it, other had more tomato base with a creamy under tone. Both are great but the green sauce was my favorite. Service was good overall. Kinda wish the waiter came around a little more as they weren't very busy but he did keep my water topped off for the most part so can't complain too much. Overall this looks like a Mexican restaurant but way more themed chairs. Really makes the whole place pop more than regular boring chairs. Local place to the house will definitely stop by for more food and drinks. read more

I have loved every single Vallarta's I've ever visited. I wasn't able to dine in this past weekend since I had my picky toddler with me. So as we exited Flying Squirrel, I spontaneously decided to pop in and order an appetizer - the greatest Bean Dip that ever existed - to go. My order was fulfilled within minutes and included two bags of chips and a side of salsa, in addition to the warmed white queso atop refried beans. My only complaint was that the aluminum container with plastic lid which was used to hold the bean dip was not completely secure and made a small mess in my car. Stopped in for my daughter's birthday on a Saturday night, party of 8 and got right in. Service was great, very attentive and the young lady was always with a smile. Typical Mexican restaurant murals and colorful ambiance, even the chairs were painted with portraits of different people. I had a combination with a burrito and taco and a tostada. The server asked beef or chicken and I said surprise me. The burrito was chicken the others were beef and the burrito was AWESOME. Didn't look special but the flavors were soooooooo good. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed and felt it. We got seated and soon after the chip's and salsa arrived. Let me tell you... the Salsa is on point. Just enough spice and full of flavor. The chips are perfect and have the perfect crisp to them. I had ordered Birria Taco plate. Comes with 3 tacos full of shredded beef, cheese, cilantro and onions fried in a corn tortilla. They are accompanied with Mexican rice that is fluffy and full of flavor. My husband ordered chicken and steak fajitas for one. Man.... It's a huge order. It comes with all the accompaniments and is plenty for even 2 people. The platter was hot and sizzling when it arrived. He loved every bit of it. This will be our go to place for sure. I come here monthly for a meeting and figured it is time for a review.. service is always efficient and prompt and friendly..it is welcoming inside when you enter as well...I ordered the Beef Fajita lunch today and have to say I was pleasantly surprised..I did not hear that sizzle noise as they were being delivered and thought oh no..I have been to places that serve them on a plate and they were horrible ..not here! The ambiance of the restaurant is very welcoming; even the chairs are works of art! I ordered La Última, which was a steak burrito with a chile relleno (with a side of rice and beans). The portions they serve are huge, which is a plus in my book. They were not shy about cheese being served on the plate; I mean there was a lot. Service was great and quick too. This place is a definitely must have! I've been ordering foods via uber eats/doordash for awhile, and the food has always had a high level of quality. I'm big on the fajitas and they use premium meat, fresh toppings, and very well spiced. I would though highly recommend going in person. The reason is, of course delivery won't give you the same portions (in-house your portions are twice as large). The waitstaff is friendly, the place is very well decorated for the budget of the food, and it's easy to locate. Will keep ordering/coming here. read more

We tried another spot for Mexican as we love Mexican and it was pretty good. Soccer on tv and great laid back vibe. The cheese dip was amazing and the burritos were good. I enjoyed the chicken better than the beef but my preference. My other half got the pollo fundido. She enjoyed most of it but part was a little chewy. Our server was pretty good answered questions and on top of things. All in all a pretty good meal. I would come back though not at the top of my list. Vallarta's Mexican Restaurant is located off State Road 54 and Collier Parkway in Lutz in a Plaza next to Kekes Breakfast Cafe, Grace Family Church, Esporta Fitness, sweet Frog, and Ayoki Japan. Ambiance: 4/10 Service: 6/10 Food: 8/10 Vallarta's loses some serious points in the ambiance department unfortunately. The overhead lighting is way too bright. It is as bright as the lighting at Walmart and quite a buzz kill. There are some dimmer charming string lights setup in addition to the bright fluorescent lighting. I asked staff to dim the lights or turn off the main lights as just the string lights should be enough but they said they're not sure how. The decor of the restaurant is a bit dated but is a traditional Mexican style with chair backs that have vintage style Mexican people art on them and the table tops have various Mexican art on it as well. 4/10 The complimentary chips and salsa was not bad but not my favorite. The salsa was a bit on the bland side and missing a bit of a kick or spice. 6/10 The Burrito Mexicana comes stuffed with shredded beef, topped w/ cheese, sauce, lettuce, tomato, sour cream & guacamole. 7/10 The Burrito San Jose comes stuffed with simmered pork, cooked with tomatoes, onions, peppers & enchilada sauce, served with salad. 9/10 The Quesadilla Mexicana came with a flour tortilla grilled and stuffed with cheese, chopped beef and retried beans, served with guacamole salad and sour cream on the side. 8/10 The Taco Salad came with a large crispy flour tortilla with beef, beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream and guacamole. The salad came with a lot of beef but did not come with enough lettuce or greens. 6/10 Service was a little on the slow side and I had to send a dish back because it came out cold. Luckily the staff was able to heat up the plate in a timely manner and the dish was good after that. 6/10 I normally like Vallarta Mexican Restaurants and this location is super close to my house but this spot fell short of my expectations. I hope management can fix the ambiance, service, and bland salsa because the food is actually pretty good. read more

This is one of my favorites Mexican restaurants, my to go place when I am feeling Mexican. They all know me there. They take care of me immediately and find me a booth. The fresh chips and salsa come right up and I take the opportunity to have a friendly chat with the hard working guy in charge of bringing them. I always order the same, La Ultima. One steak burrito, rice, beans and the cheese stuffed pepper. The food there is always delicious and hot. My daughter always order the Pollo Fundido, chicken breast with tons of queso and fries. Next time I want to try the Mocajete!! Ask about it! A few years back they upgraded the chairs and tables with beautiful Mexican motives. The restaurant is pretty big and can accommodate a lot of people. There is a small bar on the other side with TV's. They used to have mariachis on Fridays. Not sure now. In minutes we have our food Everyone is happy. Tacos are hot. Beans are hot. Service is always usually mostly on point. We pay tip and leave. No cleaning. Dinner done. Definitely room for improvement. The facility was clean and the service was great. The margaritas were delicious. Where they failed a bit was in the taste of the food. I had the steak fajitas and my ride or die wife had a burrito. Both lacked seasoning and the steak was well done when I asked for medium rare. The fajitas pretty much tasted like they just threw the meat in with some veggies and forgot the spices or marinade. I'll definitely try this place again and will adjust the review if my opinion changes. read more
