I came back after a few years, and this time we ordered the tacos dorados, one pork tamal, and chips and salsa. The tacos dorados were missing salt in the filling (I had the same issue the first time I visited), but once we added some, they tasted so much better. The pork tamal was on point. The chips, which seemed to be from a bag, and the salsa were just okay. They were also very skimpy with the salsa. Service was good, slightly slow at the beginning, but once they noticed us looking around, they were much more attentive. The restaurant has beautiful décor and a very open, spacious feel. I can't believe this is just my first time here. So excited when I saw the menu and for an early breakfast! My kids had pancakes with vegan eggs and potatoes while my wife and I chomped on some awesome Mexican dishes. The chilaquiles were on point! So delicious as I ordered half red and half green. My wife ordered the chile relleno. Thought it would be covered in like a vegan egg but was doused in this sauce! She was a bit disappointed until she tried it. I was really excited to try this place after coming across their IG page. I went with a friend on a Friday for lunch. I got the sweet green corn tamal and the pork tamal plate, which came with rice, beans, and pico. The tamales were lukewarm, that was a little disappointing. The sweet green corn tamale was tasty but a little dry, needed a sauce or something to go with it. The pork tamale was pretty dry, the pork had some flavor but the rest was bland. The rice was good, the beans were super flavorful, the pico tasted like it had been in the fridge for a while where the tomato starts to get mushy. My friend got the beef sopes. The beef had good flavor but the rest was again so bland, needed citrus or vinegar or something. The watermelon agua fresca was refreshing. I really wanted to like this place. Service was prompt. My friend was in town visiting so she picked this place as they have vegan and traditional options. Both were amazing! This is the spot for amazing homemade food. The guacamole and salsa and chips were the tastiest and freshest I've had in Tucson. The traditional tacos Duratos was amazing down to the rice and beans which is always a big deal for me. I am picky about rice and I ate all of it!! I picked to the beef and potato taco option and it came with a consome and omg it's like eating at your aunties house. Everything was homemade tasting and fresh and full of flavor. I cannot wait to come back. The service is nice and the spot is chill and laid back . Not pretentious feeling. Update: I tried a few other menu items and I'm officially a major fan of their tacos dorados. I ordered them with chicken and they were perfectly fried. The plate comes with three tacos. Very nice experience overall. I tried the chicken burrito bowl, not wanting to commit to a large burrito and had a smaller tortilla on the side. It was very flavorful with the pickled onions and pico de gallo. The bowl also had a good serving of chicken, and a scoop each of rice and beans. We shared some guac and chips and the guacamole was very good. The service was great, but had little omissions of things like no utensils beforehand, the tortilla coming in later, etc. but nothing insurmountable. Everyone was very pleasant and friendly. I cannot believe today was my first time coming to Del Cielo! I have had their vegan tacos from the vegan market at Rillito Park in the past, and thought they were great. Today, I came to try the breakfast menu and was in love. Though I am not vegan, I wanted to try their vegan menu, as this is one of the few restaurants that puts dedication into vegan food, using real foods and not just meat substitutes. The dedication shines through into the taste, textures, and flavors of the food. I ordered the Tamal Plate and loved how the tamale came crispy. The restaurant was busy on this Sunday morning, making the service a little slow. However, every worker was very friendly and helpful despite the busy day. The inside is also decorated nicely, making you feel cozy. There is also some outside seating that I would have loved to have utilized if it wasn't full. I brought visiting relatives here after experiencing their vegan menu during a recent Yelp elite event. It is tough to find good vegan food in a place that serves tasty nonvegan options as well. Server was lovely and made us feel like we were being served in her home. I also love that the breakfast menu is available all day! Everyone was very pleased with their meal. I got a red chile spinach tamale and a birria taco- they were solid although probably the least interesting. My vegan auntie got the vegan chile relleno and described it as very green and fresh . My sister discovered this restaurant recently (at a Yelp event I think) and I am so glad we came. It's a big open space with a nice outdoor area (it's December so not quite outside dinner weather). The tables are well spaced and comfortable, and the table settings are attractive. They have an extensive vegan menu, and our resident vegan got the Chile relleno and pronounced it excellent. The Chile was very fresh, the filling was mushroom and beans and things, and the sauce was exceptional. I was most excited for the all day breakfast options - I got the Andy's enchiladas with cheese and red sauce and fried eggs and it was glorious! The little pitchers of green salsa were also very tasty! I was sad there is only menudo on the weekends but there were plenty of options and I will be back for menudo. I was so honored to be invited to a Yelp Elite event at Del Cielo Tamal - Holiday Posada Celebration! This lovely spot is located just off Campbell, and it was such a treat to experience their 100% vegan offerings. We enjoyed a buffet-style spread and wow--everything was delicious. The beans were seriously amazing, so flavorful and comforting. They even shared that they don't use pinto beans, but a different variety, and you can definitely taste the difference. We also had perfectly cooked rice and two kinds of vegan "meat": carne asada and machaca. I loaded both into warm flour tortillas and made the most fabulous tacos . Let's talk salsa--because it deserves its own moment. So fresh and flavorful! Do yourself a favor and try the green salsa... it's amazing and totally addictive. We also got to try two kinds of vegan tamales: green corn and red chili. Both were great, but I'm definitely a red chili kind of girl. To top it all off, we were treated to Mexican hot chocolate, which was the perfect cozy ending to a wonderful evening. They work hard to provide vegan menu and vegan breakfast buffet to serve Tucson vegan community. We are visiting so the dishes that we can try in a short time are limited. We went for breakfast one day and vegan breakfast buffet the next day. Both we had excellent culinary experiences. Their tamales are special and called greencorn tamales. They are delicious. I really appreciated all the vegan options at Del Cielo Tamales. I'm not vegan myself and I often enjoy plant based meals. Came in mid afternoon on Valentine's Day and it was a little less than half full inside. We tried the red beef enchiladas, taco plate, green salsa chicken tamale, and vegan tres leches. I thought the food was good but not super flavorful or impressive. Some of the tacos were kind of bland with very few ingredients (e.g., carne asada and raw onions), the tamale was very heavy on the made without much chicken, and parts of our order came out incorrect. Our server quickly addressed the issues and brought out the correct items. My favorite dishes I have tried are the tacos dorados with house made from scratch vegan carne asada and the carne asada enchiladas Christmas style. Sadly several time I went thy left off the guacamole/ avocado off my dish for me to realize later. I find it disappointing that it happened more than once given that they would certainly charge extra if I wanted to add that to a dish. I also tried the horchata ones to find lots of unmixed powder in. I do like their red and green sauces, beans and in general their very large vegan menu. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I always love Del Cielo's food. What's not to love with a restaurant that has a dedicated vegan menu. The owners are always there, they are very welcoming and knowledgeable with their food. My favorite is the just egg vegan breakfast burrito with vegan Carne Asada. I have no idea what magic goes into this burrito, but it is always delicious. My meat eater friends always love the options as well. It's a great place for any dietary needs. Their tortilla chips are thick, crunchy and salty and amazing. Their tortillas I wish they sold, or maybe I missed the memo but I would eat nothing but those for the rest of my life if I could. I brought my sister and nieces here because they wanted to try some vegetarian Mexican food and this place was recommended to me. The interior is so well decorated that it truly felt like stepping into a nice restaurant. The staff were so helpful and checked on us many times and were able to adjust and accommodate my nieces meals because you know how picky young kids are. They handled it with no problems. I got three tacos. I think one was refried beans and other two were jackfruit. If you need a very good vegetarian or vegan Mexican restaurant this is your place! The menu is extensive but they also serve regular Mexican food. Prices are on par and while the parking lot is small, there is plenty of street parking. Definitely coming back here again. We had been craving a good tamale and this place had high ratings so we decided to try it. This was our first time visit and the restaurant seemed pretty decent and nice decor when we walked in about an hour before closing on Sunday. We thought that ordering a tamale plate wouldn't take too much of the restaurants time. When we were finally greeted we were given a menu with an explanation of the choices they offered. We were told we can choose where we want to sit. After sitting I noticed that there were several employees walking around and there was a young guy on the phone. After sitting a while no one came over until I finally asked if we had to go up to the counter to order. After asking the guy who was on the phone came over and took our drink order. We waited again for sometime and I asked a woman who was cleaning a table who our waiter was because I wasn't sure if the drink order guy was or not. The guy that was on the phone apparently was our waiter and he told another man to come help us. The guy that he pointed to come over asked what we wanted to drink, again! We told him we already ordered our drinks. We asked him if they offered chips and salsa because we hadn't been asked beforehand. Finally the drinks and chips and salsa were brought over and we proceeded to order. Two of the types of tamales we wanted they were out of. Finally we got the order done. Then a few minutes later the food was brought over to us. I ended up ordering the green chile tamale plate. The tamale was under cooked, lacking salt and flavor. Same for the beans and rice. I was so disappointed during the whole process at Del Cielo Tamales. I normally don't like to leave reviews, especially bad ones but this time I felt I should. I've had food from here at the farmers market and loved the chorizo breakfast burrito and tamales. Today I stopped in the restaurant to grab breakfast to go. They have a regular menu and a full vegan menu. I ordered the Navolato plate-eggs, beans, machaca and a fried green corn tamale. Everything was delicious! I was disappointed in the portion size for the price. For $17 I expected a bigger portion of meat and beans. I never had a fried tamale and would request it not to be fried next time as a personal preference. The food really is delicious though. I had really high hopes based off previous reviews and we've had their concha's (which are amazing) at Yelp events. So I was super excited to try the restaurant. My husband ordered the vegan grilled cheese and tomato soup I ordered the breakfast burrito bowl and the waitress asked how I wanted my eggs which I said over medium. A few moments later says they can only do scrambled eggs since it's in a bowl which I feel like it would be the other way around? Scrambled for burritos and not for bowls but it was fine. My husband was given a vegan tortilla soup... and the waitress said they are having "a whole thing" in the back and the tortilla chips were in place of the sandwich... she said she could take it back which we did send it back and just asked for a different menu item. So while I finished my food we waited for the other item to be brought out. Overall service was poor it took 30 min to bring out the wrong order and we waited longer to get something else. My experience seems vastly different than others who have reviewed so maybe I'll try again another day. read more
