This was my first time visiting a Guadalajara Grill in Tucson, and in years. I was overall quite happy with our experience. The interior is visually congested, not in a bad way but with lots of decor, seating, movement areas and etc. It makes a feeling of the space being busy and distracting. I prefer calmer spaces but it's not terrible. Service was prompt, frequent and wonderful. An older woman came by and asked how we wanted salsa and made us a bowl which was INCREDIBLE! So savory, spicy, fresh and left me wanting more. (You get a certain amount salsa and chips per person than you gotta pay). It was literally perfect. We weren't super hungry and wanted to share, to us the serving was more than enough for two. We enjoyed a house rocks margarita, grilled steak fajitas with rice and beans, sides of sour cream and guacamole and also some chips and salsa. It was all very well made, came out steaming and was very satisfying. The space felt cold to me, but seemed fine to all else. So just a note there if you run on the warmer side. I don't know if they do reservations, but I would imagine on some nights it would be a good idea seeing as they seem very busy. read more

Ugh! I feel genuinely bad about giving this place three stars because it has all the makings of being a five stars if not for one very important thing...the food. Which, you know, is kind of the whole point of a restaurant. The atmosphere was great, a little on the nose, but great none the less. It feels like a Mexican dinner or at least what I imagined a dinner in Mexico would look like. The staff where beyond amazing, especially the woman who made our complementary salsa right at the table. And the salsa was yummy but sadly that's the only part of the meal that I can say that about. The thing is, nothing was truly bad, but just about everything was incredibly bland. You'd have expected someone who puts raisins in potato salad to have served it, not an authentic Mexican restaurant. Though the positive is the lack of seasoning is really the only major problem. The food did not have any weird taste, it wasn't dry, the presentation was fine. It simply needs to be seasoned and this place goes to a solid 4/5 rather than a three. read more

Tucson is so full of legendary restaurants that have stuck around for decades. It is equally filled with establishments that have survived off of hype for longer than I've been alive. Unfortunately, Guadalajara is one of these places. What I like: This restaurant can accommodate well over 100 diners without sacrificing service. Food only took 20 minutes during a dinner rush. I appreciate a well-oiled machine. I will admit, the salsa gimmick is charming. What needs work: Just because there's tableside salsa does not mean it's good. I have never seen anyone use so much cilantro! The drinks are mid--the jalapeno margarita uses the mildest peppers in the universe, and surprise! It's somehow also loaded with cilantro. I excitedly went for the biggest, most famous burrito on the menu and it just has too many ingredients (beans, rice, bacon, shrimp, carne asada) to work. They were too ambitious with this one. My bad. I can see this as a really fun place to take a large group from out of town. I bet if you come from the Midwest (it is full of snowbirds from the Midwest), this is mind-blowingly good. By Arizona standards, however, there are just too many old-timey places that simply do everything better. read more

Visited this spot while on vacation with my wife. Our family that resides in Tucson brought here because they come all the time. I love the entire look of the place. Gives a very authentic feeling. We had freshly made salsa and guacamole that was made tableside. We had the opportunity to have it made with the spice level of our choice. Our waiter Hermando ( I think that was his name) was amazing and so very funny (He was sarcastic and we enjoyed all of it). My wife and I ordered paella and our other family mens ordered other items such as mini chimis. Only thing is, i wish I told them no cilantro (I dislike it and it made my meal and salsa not as enjoyable). However, the flavor of the food was tasty. No complaints. All good came out nice and hot. We all ordered drinks. They had the Diablo and I had the drink found under that one on the menu. Honestly, it needed me alcohol for both drinks. They tasted like juice. We weren't pleased with them. I was told this specific location and the one in Cortaro Farms were the superior ones, so I went to Prince on Monday, 3/30 to see. I will say, it was a tad better than my visits to the Valencia location in terms of food, but this one operates differently. First off, they don't do the tableside salsa until after 4pm, I got there at 1230. So that was a disappointment. I had a lunch combo with a mini ground beef burrito and Chile Relleno. The Relleno was better than Valencia, the burrito was okay. The salsa and chips were good, despite not getting tableside made salsa, their stock one was solid. Now our server had a bit of an attitude and went out of her way to be a bit disrespectful to my girlfriend. My gf asked if she could get a third salsa for herself. She expressed willingness to pay(well for me to pay ‍) extra. The server only brought out the one I asked for. The first two salsas were in these large-ish bowls. (it's worth noting we had a third person who claimed the first salsa) When only two salsas were brought out, my gf reiterated her earlier request. The server noticeably frowned, and sulked off. A few minutes later, she returned, with a MUCH SMALLER bowl of salsa. This was intentional. We took it as a purposeful slight. The rest of the lunch went okay. Albeit the server wasn't the most attentive. My gf also ordered the skirt steak, but got regular carne Asada. She barely ate it. She gave it to me and and I ate it, and it was horrendously overcooked and dry and had very little flavor. Far worse than I've had at even Tacos Aspon or other poor Asadas in Tucson. Yuck. I started writing this thinking it was better than my visits to Valencia, but as I fleshed this review out, I realized it was worse, mostly because of the poor service. I mean, the ambiance was better, I liked the more open layout and colors, but I wasn't really impressed overall with anything else. It's kinda sad because Guadalajara's is a Tucson staple, but I've only once had a really good overall experience and that's not excuseable. I'll try Cotaro Farms, hopefully that's the ticket, but my experience with Prince for lunch doesn't excite me to return. read more

I did my friendly Yelp app and found this location. It did not disappoint. Fresh salsa and guacamole at the table, the house margarita. My friend ordered 2 meals chimichanga and chicken fajita (yes some is to go her daughter will help her kill it). I got the ultimate fajita all the meat and shrimp only wish more peppers and onions bean and rice. Stopped here the other day and had the carne asada burrito. It wasn't that it was bad, just not near as good as what I'm used to getting from the little drive through spots. My friend got the chicken enchiladas and they looked pretty good. The prices were about right and the atmosphere was decent. I can see myself trying this again sometime and ordering something different. Definitely not gonna try their carne asada burro again. Of course it wasn't just steak inside, but beans also. Looking for good Mexican food at a reasonable price, this is your place while in Tucson Arizona. I ate here with a large group of 12 but we were seated quickly. The waitress was great at being patient and getting us through the menu. We had their guacamole and chips, as an appetizer, which were good. For my entree, I kept it simple by ordering a carne asada plate. The food is a Sonora Mexico style flavor. The carne asada was cooked as asked, the beans and rice were also good. If you are looking for a fun Mexican food experience, Guadalajara is one of my Tucson faves. I'm lucky to have the Prince Rd location just around the corner and it serves as a versatile eatery wether I'm looking for a quick dinner, happy hour margs with friends, or a nice festively decorated and roomy place to take a large party or out of town guests. This trip was a quick dinner and we arrived around 5pm on a Sunday, so it wasn't overly busy at all. This is a popular spot during typical dinning times though, so it can get busy enough for a waitlist (especially if you have a large party so plan accordingly). The nice thing about their Appetizers is that I can literally make a whole meal from the section so if I'm not craving a big meal I can come away just as satisfied doing apps only. Today I ordered my favorite go-tos: Manchegos - crispy mini quesadillas stuffed with buttery nutty Manchego cheese and served with sour cream and guac, the Ceviche de Cameron - a perfect blend of shrimp-y lime-y pico-y goodness and I love that they chop up the shrimp so it stays easily on the delish chips (we'll talk about those in a sec), and a Shredded Beef Hard Taco - their beef is moist and well seasoned and they don't skimp on portion sizes or toppings. And for the start of the show - the table-side hand crafted salsa and guacamole with their crispy golden tortilla chips. The friendly and totally amazing "Salseras" are dressed in traditional Mexican style and will create your salsa and guac to your specifications and ya'll the chips and salsa are worth the trip alone! Make sure to bring some cash to tip them - it's a cool addition to the overall atmosphere and is especially fun for out of town guests. All this was washed down with a House Margarita with salt and a Frozen Mango Margarita with Tajin (my all time favorite). The bartenders are generous with their pours and I always come away happy with my drinks. The staff is fantastic and super attentive, this visit we had Paloma as our server who took exceptional care of us and the Manager made rounds checking on tables. The whole place is clean, festively decorated, and just plain old fun to be in. It was super chill when we were there but when it's packed it can get noisy but the rooms are set up to help manage some of the overall volume. Great place for families, large parties, or just to meet a couple friends at the bar for drinks and apps. It's a Tucson must-visit and I'm a happy regular who doesn't mind letting others in on this fun hidden gem! read more

Guadalajara Original Grill is one of my favorite spots because the food is consistently amazing. I've been here multiple times and it never disappoints. The fresh guacamole is a standout -- you can even get it made table side, which is always fun and tastes incredible. My go-to meal is the Burro Panzón. It's huge, packed with flavor, and I can usually stretch it into three meals. The seasoning, the texture, everything about it is just really good. I did order a drink during my last visit and wasn't very impressed, but that may have just been the particular choice I made that day. oh my G-d, ignore the haters. The Prince location of this restaurant is amazing. I love the fajitas. I love the table made salsa, and I love the margaritas. The bartender is on point, I usually sit at the bar. I love how they keep the ambiance of a mexican restaurant with women in traditional garb and the men wearing similar. The salsa they make can be hot if you aren't from Tucson or familiar with spicy foods. I highly recommend this location over Broadway. I had dinner here two days ago with four friends. I had the Chile Nogada ($21.95), which is a poblano chile stuffed with fruit, nuts and ground beef. Sounded intriguing. It didn't make me swoon, but it was pretty good. It came with rice and beans. We also had chips with salsa and guacamole, both made tableside. All the extras were also pretty good. Service was good, though it was a Friday night and it took some time to get our food. The restaurant is old-fashioned, full of traditional Mexican decorations and well-trained staff. My cousins love coming here for a slightly more upscale experience and we LOVED all the food here! My favorite thing is the tableside salsa and guacamole cart with customized freshly made-to-order salsa. The guacamole does cost extra but it is so worth it. My kids enjoyed watching the staff mix everything for the salsa. We tried their seafood paella which is my cousins' all-time favorite thing to order. The rice was so fragrant and flavorful with seafood. I tried molcajete for the first time which they're famous for--molcajete is a volcanic rock bowl filled with tomato-based Spanish rice, beans, chicken, and tortillas on the side. Visiting Tucson for the week and had a group dinner at Guadalajara. Wasn't extremely impressed, and I'd say their food is truly nothing to write home about. Their chips and salsa were quite good, as was their guacamole. I'd give it a solid 4/5. For the entree, I ordered chicken and beef enchiladas and they weren't bad but also not amazing. Service wasn't bad but again, nothing spectacular. They did take quite some time to refill our water. Wow! What a fun place. Big, cozy, clean. Great service including making salsa right at your table! The salsa maker asks if you want mild, medium or hot and then about 3 minutes later, after mixing a bunch of ingredients together as we watched, you have a giant bowl of fantastic tasting salsa with warm tortilla chips. I had crispy tacos with shredded beef and they were good. By the time I got to the end of my second taco, the shell had softened from the ultra tasty and moist beef, so it wasn't crispy anymore. Trio enchilada meal was great. Carnitas chimichanga was super stuffed and delicious, as was the house margarita. Would go again! read more

Festive, colorful and fun. Tables and booths are available for seating. The menu was very diverse with a wide selection and gf options. Especially known for seafood which is lovely. The grilled tacos were delicious. Their guacamole freshly made. Salsa is done table side preparation for dinner! Tucson has a plethora of Mexican restaurants but this one is loved by locals and visitors alike. Centrally located with plenty of parking. We drove up and it was so packed which is pretty normal for a Friday. We thought we were going to have to wait for a table but we're sat immediately. Our server Josue came and checked in with us right away. He took our drink orders. I had the Paloma as I always do and let me tell you? It never disappoints. We had them make us salsa table side and ooooo-weeee it was spicy but so good. We ordered carne asada fajitas and their holiday special which was two sweet corn tamales, with a side of their smooth and rich refried beans. Our server checked in on us often even though it was busy. The atmosphere was loud but jolly with people celebrating the holidays and birthdays. We came in around 3:00 PM today, sat at the bar, and were served exactly ONE drink. After that, we were completely ignored for over 30 minutes. No menus, no check-ins, no offer to order food--even though we absolutely wanted to eat. We tried waving servers down and were straight-up ignored. Several staff members were standing around, clearly more interested in going home than taking care of paying customers. There was no manager in sight and no one overseeing the bar area at all. What really says it all is that we had to get up and start walking out just for someone to finally notice us--only then were we asked to pay. No apology, no concern, nothing. I read the chicken mole reviews just now, and I truly believe they either made our food incorrectly or anybody who's ordered it doesn't know what mole really taste like. My partner and I were here last week and got to taste it, and honestly, it tasted like barbecue sauce. Wayy too sweet. Mole isn't as sweet and has more flavor to it.
