a hot dog and a soda

Food has a lot of flavor, my friend and I Really enjoyed. They have coolers with canned and Mexican glass sodas and another cooler has extras like salsas. Tables and chairs if you want to eat there. We ordered one hot dog each and a "quesadogo" to share. It was very filling, we finished our hotdogs, but couldn't finish the "quesadogo".

There's nothing more Tucsonan than Sonoran hotdogs from the side of the street. Although there's a ton of these carts in town, Los Ponchos was really yummy and loaded. If you're near Ft. Lowell and Campbell stop by for a quick bite and you won't regret it! Also, I didn't get to try it but I was intrigued by the "quesadogo" til next time I guess

Just tried this place as we needed something quick and we saw this stand and thought, mmm Sonoran dogs! A second later were inside the tent, only 3$ a dog! I got two and some chips and a soda for a total of 8$-such a steal! The bun was toasted perfectly and so generously filled with toppings (weenie wrapped in bacon, beans, tomatoes, grilled and fresh diced onions, mayo, mustard, and a pepper.) the guy running the cart was super friendly and helpful even though I don't speak spanish, I got my message across with ease. He whipped up four dogs in about 3 minutes. And there was also a little topping bar with cheese, salsas, jalapeños and other condiments. So glad we stopped here and I can't wait to go back next time I'm in need of a quick bite!

This is a simple but delicious food truck/cart. I get the Sonoran hot dog and an apple soda. It's nothing fancy, but it sure is good!

But during this recent visit, I decided to change things up. Let me tell you, the food scene in this city is incredible. I'll probably post several reviews in the coming days, but this one had to be first. Sonoran hot dogs are legendary, and everyone told me they were a must-try while in the area. Several places were recommended, but this establishment was only 10 minutes away from my location -- and yes, it was the #1 recommendation. So luck was definitely on my side. This is a family business that has been featured in dozens of YouTube videos (and probably TV shows as well). I was greeted by a very sweet and polite young lady and ordered a traditional Sonoran Dog, a carne asada taco, and an adobada taco. All I have to say is WOW. The combination of toppings on that dog was amazing. I had never tried anything like it before, and now I want more. That crispy bacon-wrapped hot dog with the beans, onions, crema... just incredible. The tacos were fantastic as well. I can't wait until I return to Tucson in two months. I'm definitely going back and will probably order three of those dogs next time. They also have plenty of seating, both outdoors and indoors, with nice cold A/C for those brutal Arizona summer days.

If you've never had a real Sonoran hot dog, you might think it's amazing. But if you've had the real thing, this isn't it. Every time I've come here, the bread has been dry, stale, or just plain mediocre. A great Sonoran hot dog starts with fresh, soft bread, and they can't even get that right. If you're looking for a real Sonoran hot dog, go to El Nene--or BK if you have to. In my opinion, El Nene is the best of the three. We also ordered a burrito and specifically asked for shredded beef. The girl taking our order looked confused when we said it, but she repeated, "Okay, shredded beef," as she entered the order. I remember thinking to myself, "There's about a 37% chance she's getting this right." So we said it again: "Shredded beef." She replied, "Yes." At that point, my confidence dropped to about 22%. There was no way we were actually getting shredded beef. Sure enough, we got a carne asada burrito. All we could do was laugh. I took it back to the nice girl at the pickup counter and explained that we had ordered shredded beef. She apologized and told me they only make carne asada burritos. I just laughed again and said, "Okay, thank you very much." She was very nice, and I could tell she saw I was frustrated, but I was already expecting that answer. The burrito had more fat than I cared for, so we ended up throwing it away. So why did we come here in the first place? El Nene was closed, and I didn't feel like going to BK because I didn't want to eat with blasting music in my ears. So I figured, "Screw it, let's just go here." That turned out to be a mistake. Now, I'm not giving this place one star because I don't think that's justified. I'll give it three stars because the restaurant is clean, the salsa bar is always well kept, they provide complimentary grilled onions and chiles, and everyone working there has always been friendly. One last thing: if you're going to advertise bacon-wrapped chiles, don't half-do them like the ones we got. That's just ridiculous. And please...order the larger Coke bottles. What's with the tiny ones? It's like buying one of those sample cups they hand out at Costco on the weekends. It's oddly frustrating, especially when you're paying restaurant prices. This place used to be good, but now it's just disappointing. Everyone's taste buds are different, and you may end up loving it. I don't, and I can't recommend it when there are much better local options nearby.
