We drive all the way from Sacramento for all of our dog's primary care needs. Malone is just in love with Dr. Sullivan and all the wonderful techs at Del Mar. Dr. Sullivan won our anxious boy over immediately with her soft and obviously caring nature. She alone is well worth the 3 hour drive, so if you're local, LUCKY YOU!! Nothing but fabulous things to say about all interactions whether by phone or in person with everyone we've spoken to, and again, could not ask for a better DVM than Dr. Sullivan. wow this place has really gone downhill. I have been coming for 4 years but original doctors have left, and newer staff is so rude. Marjorie must not like working there or answering phones. EVERY TIME I've ever called and left a message, I get a call directly back. She called my emergency contact first this last time and my contact was confused if it was a routine call, and Marjorie acted like my contact was incompetent and when she called me back she said I need to update my contact information? She just called the emergency contact first instead of me but she was so rude about it. Mind you, she called at 7:50 for an 8am same day appointment. They just want to run tests without actually giving treatment. Incredibly expensive and no actual direct help. Dr. Brooks also always seems annoyed when you're asking questions. She always seems rushed and like she has something better to do. They don't keep good records on the actual patient file. My cat got diagnosed with mild cerebellum dysplasia and every time I take him in, the nurses make a comment about "how funny looking he is" and asks me what's wrong. They always asked about his last vaccines. Respectfully, do you folks not look at a patients chart before taking them in? I kindly called to have them send the vaccine records to the new vet since the office said they didn't have them, and Marjorie went "check with receptionists I sent them". Again. So rude and am not sure what for. All that coupled with Marjorie being rude was enough to make me not go back. Took my cat elsewhere and immediately got care and medicine. Paula the nurse was the only reason I kept going. She was incredibly kind and caring. Can't say the same for the rest of them. I have never disliked a vet more. I gave them a second try after a terribly offensive 1st visit. Nurse completely ignored the fact my dog is a rescue and is extremely nervous, blaming me for her behavior saying I'm the problem. Came back for a second visit trying to tell myself to not overthink it. And yet again, was COMPLETELY shamed for feeding my dog fresh food. If I could give negative stars, I would. We have been bringing our cat here for 16 years. Over a month ago, we brought her in for a nail trim and they told us she was due for vaccinations. We said ok because we're not vets so we trusted that they knew what they were doing. However, this sent our cat into complete misery within a week with a fever and covered in painful sores all over her body. We brought her back in and they denied that it could have had anything to do with the vaccines and instead gave her a dose of antibiotics, and steroids (which we later found out could have killed her as she has a heart condition), and told us it was an infection caused by something unrelated. At one point they even suggested it was cancer, as if that would happen overnight. She continued to get worse, so we brought her in a second time, and they told us there was no possibility it had anything to do with the vaccines and LAUGHED when she said it would take us eight months to get into a vet dermatologist (with no offer of a referral). Thankfully, we found an incredible vet office who saw us within a week and were kind and competent (complete opposite from what we had just experienced). The specialist took a biopsy of our cat's sores (without anesthesia, which del mar had suggested they use on a 16 year old cat with a heart condition) and confirmed that she had an auto immune disease (Pemphigus Foliaceous) flare up that was drug induced. It turns out that this is a very uncommon but not unheard of reaction to medicine, and in this case, from the vaccines. The proper thing to do by del mar would have been to help us report this to the FDA and obviously to have shown the slightest amount of care for our cat. Instead, they did neither of those things, and we got no callback from the doctor to check on our cat. Today, we had an appointment to see the doctor to confirm with them what we know now from a specialist and to have everything be put on our cat's file so that something like this never happens again. Again, as might have been expected at this point, they denied any possible relationship between their "care" and her misery, even in the face of a professional opinion from a dermatology specialist. $4,000 later, the doctor, Dr. Brooks McMahan, would not even come into the room. Paula, the vet tech, was completely dismissive and condescending. In a few words, our experience here was horrific, unprofessional, and caused completely unnecessary pain to a sweet 16-year-old cat, and to our family. We will NEVER be returning and we suggest others do the same. * I have attached photos of our cat's sores and how she looked when they laughed in our faces and told us "good luck" finding a specialist. and I have also attached the diagnosis from the specialist. read more

Did major surgery on my animal in the middle of the week, then vet Koploy was not available for followup later in the week when things turned south. Was told to go to emergency vet during reg business hrs because THERE WAS NO VET ON SITE. There was no vet on site, only vet techs, despite the multiple vet diplomas on the wall of DVMs that were affiliated with the clinic? Aren't vet techs supposed to be supervised and how can the clinic be open with multiple customers without a vet on site? Long story short: never again. Something is off. The Vets and technicians at Del Mar Hospital are wonderful, unfortunately the office manager and group that recently purchased the practice have destroyed my relationship with them. I travel with my cat frequently and this requires a health pet certification. I recently went in with my cat to get a updated health certificate and they wanted to charge me 400.00. I paid 125.00 in Nov 2023 for the same certificate. When I asked about the cost increase I was told that issuing the certificate was a lot of work. I reminded them this was a recertificate and after much discussion they reduce the cost to 225.00, which is still a 80% increase for a signature on a piece of paper. I should add this is on top of the cost of the consultation. Unfortunately I have lost my trust in the entire practice. Would give a zero for unprofessionalism if possible. No call back after procedure was finished and paid $2000. I called for concerns when my dog was agitated and wouldn't hold still, no one called back. After another procedure following, I picked him up and he had a staple that wasn't in all the way- it should have been fixed or removed, that was has since fallen out. He has not messed with it at all. He gets out of the collar, no matter how tight. He was so drugged I had to revive him after the second pick up. Never have I ever dealt with such unprofessionalism. I am so upset, I cannot believe the horrible nature when the vet initially seemed so nice. And, the office manager has zero people skills on top of it, she told me if I had to revive my dog he wouldn't be here today! I'm a medical professional, it's not my first. Have some compassion and know that you're dealing with situations that people don't want to be in. Listen to everything before speaking. She's extremely defensive as if she was doing things wrong before she's even heard the entire side! Interesting if you ask me. Unprofessional from beginning to end, 2-3 kind people if that. Leave before you're associated with the sinking ship. The most professional were the girl at the front desk with the name of a place in Spain, very beautiful sounding, and the one that initially checked me out after the first day. I took my cat in for an estimate on a 1-2 tooth extraction due to feline herpes ulcers that have developed over the years on her gums. With no indication of infection or swelling, I was given a $1500-$2400 estimate for tooth extractions, teeth cleaning, teeth polishing, and a biopsy ($279) on a lip that I would've hoped the doctor would've connected to her feline herpes and not potential cancer. I was also sold $100 of booster vaccinations that are not necessary. Beneficial? Certainly...Necessary? Absolutely not save for the rabies vaccine. I feel this is a bit of bait and switch and/or recommendations combined with up-selling using fear. At the very least, it is a breakdown of communication between patient, pet owner, vet tech, and veterinarian. I'm also not happy that I paid $65 for an exam and did not receive an estimate for the information that I was asking for and instead was given an estimate for a plethora of other products and procedures. I realize during these times of Covid, I cannot go in with my pet but it disturbs me when the doctor calls me and does not even know or mention feline herpes as a role in everything that she is observing on my cat and then must be prompted to even indicate knowledge of it. Upon scheduling the appointment, I was very clear with the office why I was coming in with my cat. Instead I left with flea medicine, $75 of unnecessary vaccinations and being told my cat has potential cancer when it's feline herpes and the conditions related to it. read more

Excellent for a quick, drop in dog/cat vaccination clinic every Tuesday night. I usually go to Pet Pals for their Saturday "low cost vaccination" clinic but I needed just ONE shot *and now* so I went. I already have a vet but he was not around that day either.....so this did the trick. I got there at 7pm per their recommendation (the lady behind the counter told me that the first in line at 6pm? is not necessarily faster and I would agree) and I was in and out. I think it was $27 for my dogs DHCCP booster (or whatever it is called). I still will go to Pet Pals for my other shots.....but, it is tempting to go here because I can check in, tell them we will be sitting outside on the bench when they are ready for my dog....and.....it just went a lot quicker than our Saturday morning booster routine. PLEASE READ BELOW AND AVOID DEL MAR PET HOSPITAL: Our dealings with Jeanne Koploy and her Del Mar Pet Hospital were dire and ultimately fatal to our dog, and best friend, and so to save others from having their dog misdiagnosed and possibly dying (as was our case), we are making this post urging others to AVOID DEL MAR ANIMAL HOSPITAL AT ALL COSTS--to SAVE the life of your beloved pet, find a better and more experienced veterinary office. We took Inky in with labored breathing, the day after having an attack where he slightly passed out (he had been having itchy allergy issues the week before.) We saw Dr. Jeanne Koploy, the owner of the Del Mar facility (for some 20 years we were told). Dr. Koploy looked over Inky, including listening to his heart, and then told us that he was having allergy issues; that he needed some teeth (molars) pulled, and his teeth cleaned; she surmised that between the allergies and the teeth (possible swelling), he was having trouble breathing. She prescribed an antihistamine, expressed his anal glands ($24), and sent us home with a written estimate for teeth cleaning. She did blood work, and assured us Inky's breathing was nothing serious, and he should be breathing better soon. Inky's breathing got much worse overnight. We went back to Del Mar, and this time saw Dr. Molly Takabury. Dr. Tackabury instantly noticed a heart murmur and recommended X-rays. Two hours later she was telling us that Inky had fluid in the lungs due to congestive heart failure; she gave us the meds for CHF, and told us the next 72 hours would be crucial. She said to keep him inactive and get food and water down him. We loved and stayed with Inky for the next 48 hours, (his breathing did get a little better) until he died in my arms, two days after leaving Del Mar. Dr. Takabury was very informative and did find what was wrong with Inky. Unfortunately due to the incompetence of the owner/managment, Dr. Koploy, we cannot recommend anyone take their pet(s) to Del Mar for any reason or to see any doctor in practice there. The antihistamine that Dr. Koploy wrongly prescribed for Inky causes breathing difficulties, and probably worsened his compromised lungs (fluid in his lungs, a secondary condition caused by his sudden onset CHF.). Rather than receiving the proper care from Dr. Koploy, our Inky probably lost his life faster than he should have! This is a practice where the incompetent head doctor (owner) sent home a beloved family member with undiagnosed congestive heart failure, and instead, gave him a medication that worsened his already compromised breathing; not to mention an estimate for teeth clueing--a further $500 charge/profit for her business. Had Inky been treated with the proper meds 24 hours earlier than he had (when he first saw Dr. Koploy), he might still be alive today (we realize that no dog can actually be cured from CHF, but some live decent lives for up to a few years). PLEASE--join us in avoiding Del Mar Pet Hospital for any and all reasons. Our beloved family members deserve better and more accurate care than most of this hospital can provide. read more

Unfortunately, our old man doggo, Dante, crossed the rainbow bridge a month after seeing the vet, but I think if we hadn't seen Dr. Brooks, he would have left us much sooner. The folks working this last Saturday morning helped us during the horrible moments after we found he'd passed, with his cremation, and they'll be scattering his ashes with some new doggo friends in Mount Hermon for us. I'm looking forward to seeing the tile with his paw print, so thank you for offering that. He was the goodest of boys, made it 15 years, 100 in doggo years (or so I've been told by an online converter). Recently Bailey was having some breathing issues. i was worried and as always, the staff got me in right away. The staff and techs are always so amazing and comforting...both to me and my dog. On this particular visit i was more than emotional as I was worried about Bailey and also had financial concerns. Dr. Wilson is a pretty good doctor, and we were big fans of Dr. Hassan, back in the day. They weren't bad for Aptos. That being said: steer clear of this office if you value your wallet. If you sign up for "email notifications" with them, it's outsourced to some cockamamie portal provider, and "unsubscribe" means nothing... Even if your animal has been dead for months, their notifications come with helpful hints and tips about wonderful, as a rule, expensive medications you can buy from them. Medical care for the critters was medium good.. but the push for "add on" items killed the vibe. read more

They have been helpful in trying to answer questions over the phone and even helped me to save money by advising me how to treat my dog with some of the pet meds that I already had. My experience has been that from the person behind the desk, to the doctors to the person who cleans the cages, all have a great love for animals. Dr. Wilson, in particular, is willing to go the extra mile, when necessary, and explore alternative treatments if that's what you are looking for. Here are a few examples: When I had them out to put my cat to sleep they were caring, gentle and loving, treating me and my cat with great dignity. When I called, on my way over, with a neighbor's dog that was hit by a car, they had everything set up by the time I arrived and they ran out the door, rushed it in and saved its life. Could have been much better! We took our golden retriever to Dr. Nicole Brooks at Del Mar Pet Hospital for a checkup. She suggested X-rays, so we brought our dog in and he wagged his tail as the vet tech walked him into the hospital. Dr. Brooks promised a call to us after a radiology report was received. Now, the big problem!: Our dog was returned to us with paralysis in his rear legs. After him waiting in our car for several hours, there was no improvement. We ended the day by having our dog euthanized due to his paralysis! Not once did Dr. Brooks give us a call or did anyone offer any explanation as to how our dog was treated which resulted in his paralysis! In short, it cost us over $ 1,000 to lose our dog! read more

I have been bringing my dogs to Del Mar Pet Hospital for over 10 years. I have seen most (all?) of the doctors there - Paula LaHue, Patricia Wilson, and Molly Tackabury; and they and their staff are WONDERFUL. Over the years, they have consistantly been kind and accommodating to me and my two dogs. Last month we had to put our 13 year old golden retriever to sleep. Dr. Tackabury was very sensative when she told us what was wrong. This was heartbreaking for our family, and I felt that they were hurting right along with us --- they were so compassionate.They were so wonderful to our sweet golden, me, and my family as we struggled through putting him to sleep. I know they do this a lot, but by their actions and sensitivity, one would think it was the first time. Afterwards, we received a lovely card from them; and I just received a letter in the mail from the University of California at Davis that Del Mar Pet Hospital made a financial donation in Cutter's name. Took my dog Mango here this morning for an impromptu eye exam after a scare last night. The receptionist was very accommodating over the phone and when I got to the clinic we were taken care of almost right away. The vet techs and our animal doctor were all very affectionate towards Mango and seemed so happy with their jobs. They answered all of my questions and I left feeling at ease knowing that I have a good vet to call to if ever there is an emergency (knock on wood). read more

I have never dropped off a pet at any location to be left overnight or watched. In an emergency we had to locate a location to leave our pet. This was the place we went to. I called them ahead of time to see what the procedures were. The staff here was super friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I inquired about and asked what I needed, they said they needed the shots paper for my dog. They asked what pet hospital he goes to and they did all the calling etc. It was beyond helpful!! For one night it was only 28 dollars!! I mean I haven't been to a lot of pet places like I said but 28 is pretty cheap in my opinion. They confirmed everything within 15 minutes, called me and we were ready to drop off my dog. When we got there they knew who we were, what to do and was so so so helpful!! Next, the staff even gave us a quick tour to where he would be staying for the night. The next day we came in, picked up our pet, grabbed some free drinks in the lobby, and was on our way. This place is wonderful ! I cannot say how great the staff and Vets are here. My cat had an emergency- she ate something, couldn't throw up and was choking and difficulty breathing. I got her to the Vet and they saw her right away without any appointment or much of a wait. Both my cat and I were scared to pieces. The staff and Vet were very helpful, friendly and informative. The fees were reasonable for what they had to do to get this small foreign object out of the cat's mouth. The next day, they even called to check up on her. We have found our Vets! We just went to Del Mar walk in clinic that they do on tuesdays. There is no office visit fee. They only charge you for the vaccinations your pet is getting. The service we received was fantastic. She took her time and answered all our questions. I would recommend them to anyone. FYI the clinic starts at 6:30pm. I would get there at 6pm if you can. Otherwise you might end up waiting a while to be seen. read more

Well Tracy in reception is not only rude and abrasive, as another reviewer wrote, but she is simply a very mean person. Even though my dog had a hurt paw I simple could not take him here after dealing with her. She offended my so much that I actually left the office right before my appointment, when I asked if I could first speak to the vet she told me no the doctor was too busy. Really? Even though I had an appointment with her? She refused to let me talk to the doctor because she knew I was planning on complaining about her! Even the other receptionist was standing behind Tracy shaking her head and silently mouthing to me that she was sorry for Tracy's behavior. Does the management not realize that the front desk is the face of their business? Well they lost my business of two dogs and I will never go back! Fortunately for my dog the very nice vet at Mt. This was my first visit to Del Mar Pet Hospital as my vet who I have been seeing for at least 15 years just transferred to their office. The team of staff was so welcoming, warm and professional. I wanted to leave a review about Dr Condreay as she is an incredible vet and is new to this office. When we went in for my dogs check up, we were welcomed by her loving spirit and ease. She always gets down to my dogs level and is a true animal lover. She has helped us problem solve many things to do with all our animals past and present.
