We were interested in refreshing our fireplace in our modern home and had always dreamed of having a black marble fireplace instead of just white drywall. I Yelped and found Del Mar Tile and Stone and checked out photos and crossreferenced everything. He had stellar reviews everywhere. John the owner came out within a day or two (on a Sunday!) to look at the project and gave me a quote the next day. The project involved tiling on the fireplace surround and also into a cutout for our TV and the vent for the fireplace above. The quote was fair for the amount of work involved and I thought, hey if he's already there maybe get him to re-do tile in one of our bathrooms (a much smaller project)? I texted him a video and measurements of the space prior to him working on the space and he was able to quote the bathroom without coming back! Super cool. The quality of work is amazing. I am a detail-oriented, visual person and with the beautiful black marble with white veining that we chose (with a fluted pattern!) I wanted to be particular with what tiles we should use and which we should not. He was more than accommodating and we have a beautiful, beautiful fireplace now and a gorgeous bathroom. Not everybody could do this job. It was technical as a fireplace surround. The tile contractor had to use the right mortar and he had to level it out just right. As we homeowners know, rarely is your house completely true and flat and square everywhere and the tile had to be done to accommodate all of the imperfections in our visually perfect house. The corners and leveling had to be perfect. He had to carve into drywall to make the corner of the fireplace square. It was crazy and it would have taken me decades of experience to do this myself (enter John). The cutouts for the fireplace and the TV surround had to be perfect. The bathroom turned out flawless as well. John is an awesome person and was so kind and courteous to our pets (he told my dog Thatcher she was beautiful) and was respectful of other contractors we were having at the house at the same time. His son Hunter and his other employee Carlos who worked with him were conscientious, clean, and all three were just all around good people. Please see photos! Del Mar Tile and stone will be my go to place for all future renovations and flooring needs. John, the owner, and team are true professionals, who are experts at their trade and their customer service is simply amazing! We wanted to install porcelain tile flooring for our small patio area (~ 210 sq ft), that is attached to Master bedroom of our condo. The previous flooring was some sort of concrete in extreme disrepair (Please see my 'before' picture). Among all the contractors we interviewed, John was the most responsive and also gave us the best quote for the job. He was very prompt in setting up an appointment to inspect the patio and very patiently explained all the details that the installation would entail (levelling of surface and ensuring proper slope for drainage of rain water, best patterns for laying the tile etc.). Next, since we live in a condominium, we needed to provide a ton of paperwork to our HOA in order to get approval, and again, John new exactly what was needed and provided us everything (insurance papers, quotes, license information etc.). He also provided the convenient service of picking up the tiles we had ordered from Home Depot, the day before the installation. Furthermore, given that our patio was relatively small, we had to set up a work station for cutting tile and miscellaneous activities in a much smaller 'alley way' which was the only area that he was allowed to work in by the HOA. Although it was not ideal, john and team very cheerfully adjusted, and made do with the space. I commend them not only for their superior workmanship, but also for their ability to adapt to situations to complete the job at hand. They completed the installation in record time (1.5 days). Del Mar Tile and Stone did an excellent job on our kitchen. We had a leak in July and thankfully it is now all fixed. Pricing was fair, and the team was able to finish installation of backsplash in one day, and it looks beautiful. We went with a seashell mosaic behind the oven and a subway tile pattern where every tile is different and not perfectly flat for the rest of the kitchen. They also installed our range hood, which did not look easy. Separate from the company's work, I recommend asking the company ahead of time about where to purchase tiles. We purchased tiles on our own before contacting Del Mar Tile and Stone, and the tiles arrived after being shipped and many of them were broken, so we had to reorder. Del Mar Tile and Stone has recommendations on where to purchase tiles, so we should have asked them first! read more

He is busy so try to get on his schedule well ahead of when you want to complete your work, but he's busy because he's good. We were lucky we had a relatively small job and he was able to fit us in in between other jobs. He and his crew are quite professional. They installed some slate in our outside front entry porch. The results were great and he did all the things that distinguish good workmanship such as; tight fitting tiles to the wall, straight and accurate grout lines, clean cuts at the step edges, sealing the slate and grout, and cleaning up after finishing. John did amazing with my sink installation. I had a cracked sink that was attached to a granite countertop and he was one of the only people willing to give it a shot. He was prompt and replied to all my messages quickly. Just after sending a couple of pictures, he quickly made an appointment the next day to come take a look. He finished the job in 1.5 hours and was very careful and precise. He explained everything to me step by step to make sure I understood everything he was doing. He even knew where to purchase my new sink bowl just by looking at pictures of the old! I only needed to have the sink replaced at first but we also had to reinstall a new tailpiece since the last one that was installed by the landlord was utter junk. He clearly explained to me why the old installation was hazardous in case of water back flow and reassured me a chrome tail piece would work better than the last piece installed. Attached are the before and after pictures of the pipes under my sink! You can obviously tell the difference between the shotty work the previous workers did compared to John's. I found John on Yelp. He was terrific. Responded very promptly to my questions, and swung by to look at the job. He told us the floor's square footage, and my wife and I spent a day or two to find nice replacement travertine mosaic tiles. Bought them at a "big box" store , and brought them home. Texted John to say that we were good to go, and he and his crew were there 3 days later. John installed tile in a shower during a bathroom remodel we did 2 years ago, and he did such a great job that we asked him back to do the same for another bathroom we are now remodeling. I like to do some of the work myself (installing vanities, fixtures, etc.) and John was very accommodating working around my schedule 2 years ago. This time I just needed the tiling done, and he and his team came right away and had the whole thing done (including taking out the old tile and drywall) in 2 1/2 days! Despite our dog's constant barking, everyone remained cheerful. John's been doing this a long time and clearly knows what he's doing. He pays a lot of attention to detail and recognized some unevenness in our bathtub that made the installation a bit more challenging, but the finished product looks great! It was certainly not inexpensive, but I am happy paying a bit more for high quality work. Over the years we have had issues with contractors, but John and his team are very reliable.
