I have been a small business owner, a customer service rep and a salesperson. I support all such entrepreneurs and am saddened I need to share this review. I am hoping this company will learn. Our experience with David started when we set up an appointment to provide a quote. That morning I called to see when he will come and was told he neglected to notate the appointment. Ok. Stuff happens. So we rescheduled and unfortunately his child was ill and he could not make it. Totally understandable. A third appt was set and he did show up. We agreed for him to supply the service and set a date. The date came and no one came. I called and he told me he had a late night job and didn't understand why he would make an appointment for that morning (?!), but promised me he would call within an hour when he got back to the office. I waited 4 hours, no call, then texted him that we will not use his services if this is how unimportant we were. On top of this, I later found out my husband reached out to him to give him another chance to get our business (David seemed like a nice guy). We had a 23 year old travertine kitchen floor that ha not been taken care of as it should have been. I considered having it replaced with new tile or natural stone, but the replacement cost was outrageous, and the truth was that I still preferred my floor over most other floor coverings. Edit: Totally understand things can get overwhelming, owner investigated and reached out to make things right.. We hired this company to fix a crack in our granite that appeared by the sink. We had two options: permanent solution or crack repair. They said the permanent solution was not necessary for this type of crack so we went with the repair. Fast forward to the repair.. they "sealed" the crack but didn't match the color of the granite properly. Kind of an eyesore but fine, we'll live with it. Fast forward just a couple months. The crack was not sealed properly and came back (pictures attached). We contacted the owner to see what he could do and he said he'd get back to us after the holidays. Totally understood. However, like a few others who have reviewed poorly, I struggled to get emails and calls returned after the initial job assessment and quote. This is the second time we used Set in Stone Restoration to clean and seal our quartzite floors and shower and the second review of their excellent service. Their technician Gab Sanchez did a fantastic job. He arrived at the scheduled time, protected the areas leading up to and surrounding tile, then proceeded to clean then seal the areas to their original look. So this story needs some background. About a year ago I decided to the replace the floor in my kitchen, and being a DIY kinda guy, I thought I could lay my first marble tile floor ever...at my own house.....I was wrong, I should have practiced on a friend's floor. I did manage to get all the tile attached to the foundation, and they looked good, but I didn't know what the hell I was doing and the tiles were as uneven as the Appalachian trail. I credit this to the sheer weight of marble tiles, my inexperience, and I was sorta rushing through the job. Anyways, after 12 months of tripping over uneven tiles I started to research how to fix it, and I figured you could grind it or something. BTW I learned that my problem is called "Lippage", which is awesome. I came on yelp, found a few companies I thought would do it and started yelp messaging. 4 companies responded, two messaged me back and asked for contact info, but never followed up after I gave it to them. One gave me a ridiculous price, but didn't seem very interested in earning that money, but David, the owner of set in stone, messaged me back, with his cell number and then after calling him, came and met me at my house two days later. I think a Saturday morning (he was available the next day, I was not). David came by on time and looked at the problem, gave me a fair estimate, and a work time estimate for the job....that's a lie, he gave me a great price, and I felt it was so good, I counter bid him $75 over his asking. We scheduled a date, but we had some mutual scheduling issues, and we ended up pushing back a few weeks. When Byron from set in stone arrived, it became obvious that the project was gonna take longer than previously expected. Byron explained to me that my floor was in fact granite and would take longer to grind than marble, he also made sure my expectations were realistic, couldn't make it perfectly flat, because the lippage (he he lippage) was so bad he would grind through the tile. Now I am not sure he is right, my receipt says marble on it, but then again I'm not a stone guy, and maybe the retailer was pulling a fast one on me. But per Byron, granite is more expensive and a better surface in the long run. Anyways I am little worried now I will have to pay more money, but no, Set in Stone stuck to their original price, and Byron worked all day on Friday, and a half day on Saturday to get the job done. And what a job, now my "lippage" (I love that word), was pretty serious and I am not sure I have pictures that will show had bad it is, but when my toe caught it, it was like stubbing your toe on the coffee table at 3am just after finishing your "I had to too much to drink burrito, from your favorite burrito place, because you know they are opened 24 hrs" kinda pain. Well when they were done, it was like my lippage had gotten a Brazilian wax, up close it wasn't perfectly flat it was about 98% though, and I definitely wouldn't trip on it, I would more likely slip on it. The high buff polish was amazing and I could almost seem my reflection in it, and the sealing job was way better than I had done myself a year ago. It was everything I wanted, expected, and more, like Myspace.com before facebook showed up. Great owner, great company. David's guys refinished a marble-topped vanity in my master bath to remove water spots and etching. I called them again when I chipped the edge of my quartz countertop in the kitchen and was in the midst of showing my property. They responded immediately, Robert came early the next morning, and spent over an hour repairing it with great care and expertise. Engineered quartz is notoriously difficult to repair and he did a fantastic job, better than I hoped, making the chip barely noticeable by matching the color and adding additional color to match the pattern of veins in the rest of the countertop. We had a few stone areas in the house that needed freshening up - the master bath countertops and shower (both had some etching on them, and were generally just kind of blah looking), shiny marble in the entryway that needed a bit more shine, and the granite countertops in the kitchen which had some odd variation in sheen we were hoping to even out. David came out and looked at the 3 areas, and we had a short but productive discussion about them. David talked me through the kitchen counter issues, and indicated basically that that's just the nature of the marble - he could give it a little bit more shine and consistency, but likely nothing really noticeable. The entry and bathrooms though, he could make look like new. Later that evening, David sent over a very clear and reasonable estimate for the 3 areas, and after a couple emails we settled on a date and likely duration (1.5 days), and to skip doing anything in the kitchen. I was very happy with how easy it was to communicate, and that the estimate was on-par with the other 2 I had received for the same work. On the day of work, Set In Stone arrived right on time, and after a few minutes pointing out the areas to get worked on - to make sure we were on the same page - they got to work. After several months of remodeling, my new tiles did not look so new. Grout haze, dirt, concrete dust, and drywall dust had taken their toll and been ground in to the tile by heavy construction foot traffic. Set In Stone didn't just steam or wipe the tile, they scrubbed it, then resealed and buffed it. This process uncovered some pre-existing flaws in the grout, which Set In Stone immediately repaired to make the floor look better than when it was laid. I would have given this company a 5 star rating because their work was outstanding. Sam did a really good job with my limestone etching removals. Looks like brand new now! However, there were 2 appointments cancelled on the day of the appointment because of staff issues. David finally came thru on the 3rd appointment scheduled. Sometimes this is out of his control so I do understand. However, that was very disturbing for me to have to get everything ready for them to come and then having to put everything back. Set in Stone was everything and more! I purchase my first home and wanted the travertine floors restored to make it look like new. I have to say I had a hard time finding a trusted company, but after several interviews I decided to go with Set in Stone. I have to admit I was very impressed with the overall presentation and attention to detail that was taken by David (the owner) and his crew. The floors looked horrible and thought of replacing the entire area, but after looking at the overall cost it was to expensive and restoration was my only option. Set in Stone did a great job restoring 600 sq ft of granite in my kitchen/family area! Initially David came out and bid the job for much less than I had expected. The floors hadn't been serviced for at least 12 years and I was expecting a large sum to fix them up. I had inquired about regrouting and he opined that it wasn't necessary; his team could actually just resurface the floors and do some touch up work for a great result. They were able to schedule me for two weeks later. The day of, the crew of 2 guys (Sam and Hector) arrived early 7:52am. After working all day, they wrapped up around 6pm. I think the job took longer than they expected, but they had great attitudes all day, were courteous and pleasant to work with, and had great attention to detail filling all the holes in the travertine tiles and mixing a custom grout color to patch the grout.
