It's is a Father & son team that are easy to work with, knowledgeable & very dedicated to their profession They were able to fix the clock that my Grandfather gave to my Grandmother on the day that my Dad was born. The clock is 111 years old this year. They had it running perfectly. Came to pick it up & delivered it back to me. This guy has my clock for four weeks and did NOTHING! It's an antique clock (originally electric) that he was going to swap out for battery. Even I could see it was a relatively easy fix. Went back after a week and was told he's too busy but will order the part. Checked back several times (told it's not ready, "check back later". Nothing happened. DO NOT GO TO THIS GUY! HE DOES NOTHING! Today was week four, and still "I'm so busy". Took my clock home to find an actual repair shop. read more

The owner & employee may have good intentions but it surprises me this place can still be in business. My husband brought 2 watches in one for a battery and the other to be repaired. He went a week later to pickup the watches. He paid 185.00 and within 5 minutes both watches still didn't work. He brought them back and after a few more go arounds they finally did. Disappointed ! I come for watch batteries change and cost me $40 for 2. And the batteries last for couple day. When I call back to asked him that to have anyway to take a look on my watch. He told me to the shop and he will check . ( shop always open from 1pm to 7 pm and closed on Monday and Sunday. The reason I'm working when the shop open. So he ask me to come in on Wednesday at 9:30 am. And Today I came at 9:00 am and waiting for him until now 10 am...called him for 4 times and have no answered...I have to go to work...and took me 30 minutes from my place to get here....Did he a business man ??? Did he take a word on what's he said ? Did he care for his customers ???? So ridiculous ! I'm not recommending this place ! read more

NO! NO! NO! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! I dropped off 2 vintage Mickey Mouse watches a few months ago for repairs and battery replacements and never heard back. Just stopped in today to check the status and and get a battery for another watch and saw both of my watches sitting in the display case (for sale?!) When I told the man those are my watches and I never heard back from you, he said he that they were not repairable and he did not know why they had never contacted me. Then, it became obvious that one of the watches was now missing both of its 'hands'. When I asked where they went, he responded, "I don't know. My son..." with nothing more to say after the word 'son'. I'm in shock. He barely spoke English so I decided that this was one of those 'cut your loses' situations and left. Take a look at this place - it's a total dump (worse looking place on Del Mar) and has only continued to degrade over the years. The hands from my watch are probably on the floor somewhere with everyone else's lost stuff. The appearance of a business reflects the person's mindset; cluttered, disorganized, incompetent, disrespectful... After years of giving them the benefit of the doubt (not the first time stuff like this has happened), I finally get it. I won't be back until the place is gutted and something else is there. read more

Came in on a Tuesday to get the bracelet on my new watch adjusted to fit on my wrist. Owners son was there and told me to come in the next day since the owner would be there then. The son told me he would be there by 11am the next day. I show up at 11:30 and find out that he wouldn't open the shop until 12:00. I brought my self winding watch in for a tune up. It had finally stopped working altogether. The watch was worth the "overhaul" cost if they could do the job. It was a gamble having never gone there before, I was pleasantly surprised with the results. The guys did a great job at a fair price and now my watch keeps time like never before. BTW they are honest. I brought a second self winding watch in and they told me it wasnt worth the tune up cost because it was a cheap Chinese knock off. Well my experience at this shop was very pleasant. I was selling a watch and needed it authenticated. A vintage diamond Cartier watch was on the selling block, and a guy down the street at jewelry forever has dismissed the watch as being rubbish. Little did the guy know that it was a watch from the 80's and did not have all modern traits. After opening it, and cleaning it a little more in the process (dust and such) he showed is the inside, authenticated the item, and put it all back together. I used this place for some watch overhauls over the years. We're talking high-end Rolexes and other swiss brands. Sometimes the work has been good, sometimes it has been bad. To the people writing reviews about batteries, seriously... batteries are very easy to replace so your review doesn't have as much merit to me as watch and clock repair. Watch and clock repair is where the rubber hits the road. It is a lost art and it is increasingly more difficult to find someone who does it these days. While this guy is good, I think it is a hit or miss situation with him. I think maybe he's got personal problems that sometimes take away his ability to focus. One of my watches came back spot on time and only gains a second a day. While two others ran much faster than they did before I brought them in for overhaul. However, this has been the case with every watchmaker I have used to date. It is called human error, it happens... and unless you send them back to a manufacturer... you are going to have to be willing to take the risk. Personally, I send my watches back to the factory from now on. read more

I wanted to support a local business with a simple battery replacement for a watch I recently purchased online. I figured the place to go in San Clemente would be the place with "watch" in their name. I was wrong. I was quoted $22 for the replacement, but "for me" he was willing to do this for $17. I had recently had a battery replaced in a dive watch by another south county merchant for $10. I was surprised this quote was 120% more and with my "local" discount it was 70% more then I had previously paid. I took my watch to another Del Mar store for a quick easy replacement. The no haggle non discounted price quoted there was $10. Unfortunately, I can't review Del Mar Watch and Clock's service since I took my business else where. If you decide to use Watch and Clocks I would make sure and double check prices before having a repair completed here. read more

I took them two watches for batteries. I also bought a new band for one of them. When I got them back, mine ran but didn't keep time. I returned immediately with my watch, and wanted a refund for the band. I figured the watch was broken and I was going to throw it out. They suggested opening back, and blowing or lubricating or something and to try longer. I only wear the watch on planes, and returned a month later to report it didn't work. They would not give a refund on the band because it had been too long (even though I had requested a refund weeks ago). Then my husband said his expensive Tag Hauer watch wasn't keeping time either. Couldn't believe that two watches suddenly don't work with new batteries. I took his to a jeweler who said it was full of dust and sticky stuff all over- like silicon. I love this old school watch and clock repair.  The owner is always there working and i can depend on his expertise. He was able to repair my husband's Tag Heuer watch which another jeweler just couldn't get right. Whenever i have brought my watch in for a battery replacement, Gustavo is always quick to do "on demand" service.  It doesn't hurt that the quaint shop is on Del Mar Street in San Clemente and then i have an excuse to stroll down this adorable street. read more

This business should be in a strip mall. If they fix any timepiece if yours they won't use the same quality that it was made with. Instead they will use the cheapest possible method to "repair" it. Not a true watch repair business. I had them replace a crystal of mine and they used one that was way too thin so the bezel set up to high above the crystal then I had them repair it again and this time the crystal was thick enough but the cyclops was the wrong magnification. Then they never called me to come get it after fixing it a second time, so after a month I had to go find out if it was done. Simple things that a true watch repair place of quality wouldn't do. Bottom line is if you want your quality timepiece to be returned and to the same state that you bought it in don't go here. I had two watch batteries replaced for less than $20, and Gus polished and removed minor scratches from one steel bangle watch for free. Also, Gustavo is a true gem. The repair estimate for one of the watches was more than $130, and he fixed it for $50 while I waited. Love this place! read more

Impressive shop, but the repair was expensive and sub-par.. I had 2 of my watch batteries replaced on the same day, and within 2 days they stopped working again. One of them had filled with water in the shower, but is a waterproof model - poor replacement of the back panel? also i was charged $20 for the batteries.. why did the other reviewer get a better deal? I was pleasant and patient, despite the language barrier.. Buy an awesome clock here, but don't bring anything to fix. read more

Used the 30% check in discount on batteries for my Burberry watch. Got it replaced in about 5 minutes!

I brought two vintage dive watches in for service. There was moisture inside. Also the day of week would not change at midnight. Six weeks later I called to see if it was ready. The owner said there ready for pick up. After I had the watch less then a week it had moisture in it, second time. I took it back. Two months later it was ready. I picked it up Again. Had it a few days. Moisture again ! I was done!!! Took it to another jeweler, he said the previous repair shop used the wrong seals, so that is why it leaks. So use your own judgement when taking anything to Del Mar watch and repair!!!!! He didn't even offer me any refund! And the day of week still wasn't changing at midnight, it changed at 1:00 p m every day !!! I will never use this rip off watch store again! read more

Beware! They're terrible! I had my clock repaired there. They took forever to fix my wall clock, which of course did not work when I brought it home. The second time around I needed to pester them again after not hearing from them after about 2 months. They promised it would be ready in 10 days. Another month passed, no call back. I finally picked it up, but when I got home, the winding key was missing. So it was back to the store one more time for the key. But I had no proof they had my key. They said they wanted $20 for a new key and they produced a box full of old keys. Several of them looked like my old key! Clearly this was a box full of their previous customers keys! Finally after some haggling in front of another customer who walked in, they relented and gave me my key back. My advice is to stay away from this unprofessional place. GR, Dana Point CA read more

I'm local and would like to give a good review BUT they are dishonest and not sure they know what they're doing. They lost parts to the clock we left for repair and claimed we never dropped them off. My wife and I were together so we're sure all the parts were there. They say "we'll call when it's ready" but they never call. Twice this happened. They over charge and do sub-par work. I took my wedding ring in for repair and was in no hurry as long as it was done right. When I picked up the ring, I complained that the stones that were replaced were too small. The tall guy calls the repair man, speaking Farsi or something so I couldn't understand, then put me on with him. He argues those are stones he had, I questioned why he didn't order correct size, he garbled something stupid. SO UPSET? Ruined my ring. Stones fell out the next day! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have gone to this watch shop several times before and worked with Jose who was very honest thorough and helpful. It seems a young man-- either the owner's son or some cheap hire was brought on to help out and I have had the worst customer service experience I've had in years with This man, Michael. He is EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL, brazen, rude and runs heavy interference to make sure he does what he wants and the owner doesn't know about his bad customer service. I came in on September 26th, a Tuesday, to put in my husband's watch for repair in time for his 50th birthday on that Friday. I told Michael it was a big occasion and what repair needed to be done and wanted an estimate on when it would be complete. He advised it should be done in plenty time by Thursday and we agreed I call later that afternoon to confirm the price and the exact repair to move forward. He called me later, that afternoon around 4, he gave me the estimate on the repair and after confirming it should be done by Thursday I said please go ahead. Well, Michael forgot to put the order in and when I called on Wednesday to check up on things he said he remembers me but didn't remember getting confirmation on doing the work. I advised that I did speak to him the day before, same day I turned the watch in when he gave me a quote later that afternoon, and I have the screenshots from the timestamps of our phone conversation. Michael INSISTED THAT HE "NEVER MAKES MISTAKES" and he never spoke to me and then he hung up on me. I called back the next day and ask to speak to the owner and was told from the 27th all the way through the beginning of October that The owner was not available and to call back later. I was very upset and I let Michael know that I demanded to speak to the owner and here is my number for him to call me. The owner never called and seemingly was never informed. Every day thereafter I called to speak to the owner or dropped in and was continually told that he's not available to speak with. At one point Michael even said the owner has been sick and he has to deal with the whole shop, to which I replied you seem overwhelmed and he scoffed . Some serious blocking was taking place and when we, now well after my husband's birthday and without his gift, said that we did not want to pick up the watch without speaking to the owner we were hung up on. When my husband finally went to go get the watch this past Monday October 21st, the owner was there and on the phone ... my husband asked to speak with him and the owner Gustavo waved him off . My husband let them know that to earn on our business again they're going to have to do something about this whole botch job. Michael only offered $2 off and said take it or leave it and Jose even tried to step in and was speaking Spanish with him to let him know that we are long-time customers and that we should get a some kind of discount. They argued and Michael refused. Apparently they didn't know we speak Spanish. The owner, after getting off the phone still did not come out to speak to my husband after seeing him visibly upset. We got our watch, paid full price, and will never, ever, go there again! read more

I love supporting business on Del Mar, but would never use this repair shop! tl;dr - This guy ruined a nice Swiss watch. Avoid business. Brought in a Swiss quartz watch with chronograph I've had for 10 years in for battery repair. Owner seemed a bit surly, but he seemed like he might know his trade and I trusted him to change a battery. Shortly after had to return for repair, and stated movement needed repair and quoted a reasonable price for replacement. Shortly after the movement replacement, I noticed condensation in the case. Just got back this report from the manufacturer with quote for full repair. - Case back has been damaged by use of an inappropriate tool. - To guarantee water resistance, the case back must be replaced. - The movement is rusted. - Moisture damage evident on dial. - Moisture damage evident on the hands. read more
