Rick was incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful, patient, and trustworthy when evaluating the old jewelry and other pieces I brought in last week. And, whether he bought them or not, he spent a good deal of time explaining what everything was, which I really appreciated. He offered more than fair prices for the items he ultimately bought. Without expertise we never know how we'll be treated when we drop into a business to offer items for sale, and it can be daunting. But Rick, the owner, was really helpful when my elderly Mom and I visited over a decade ago. She was a bit skeptical about selling some of her old jewelry. But Rick made her feel welcome, and respected, offering candor along with his expertise. That patience and kindness made her comfortable, and pleased with the experience. This was my second time coming here, and they are always so kind! I brought in a semi-costume jewelry bracelet I've had for over 20 years. It was broken, and no jeweler had ever told me they could fix it...until now! They gave me a great price and had it looking perfect within two weeks. I came back today to have the battery replaced in my Tiffany watch. Tiffany themselves refused to change it since they no longer sell Baum & Mercier watches, but Mikey took care of it right away. My wife wanted to sell her previous wedding ring and we had asked several family members and peers about who would be interested or what company they would trust. Many times over we heard Paradise Jewelers. One day after work, we made our way down to Del Mar and walked in and were greeted by professionals. The ring was more than 20 years old and although it said it was certified at a certain grade the explanation that we received made sense about how the ring was overpriced when it was purchased. I also have to note that the ring did have a flaw which was not notated anywhere. Highly would NOT recommend! Rick is the worst business owner I have ever dealt with. He is extremely rude and aggressive. I took my tennis bracelet in to get fixed and they tried to convince me to rebuild the whole thing, no thanks. Then didn't even fix the correct links that were marked clearly with a sharpie. When I came to pick it up, I asked them to fix the link closest to the clasp since it was extremely loose and they told me they would. 5 days later I got a call from Rick telling me he doesn't do work for free and that I should come pick up my bracelet and never come back. Be Aware... silver tongue devil RICK. Says one thing, does whatever he wants. Be sure to take your own notes. I brought a family heirloom set of earrings into Paradise Jewelers on Del Mar in San Clemente, along with other trade in items. The earrings were to be turned into matching eternity bands to complement her engagement ring. When I first went into Paradise, I was told to come back and talk to RICK, as he is the master. He is rarely available, so I came back when he was in. When I returned, I sat down and talked in detail with RICK about everything I wanted to do. I wanted 3 rings: 2 matching eternity bands that complemented her engagement ring made out of the heirloom rings provided. A matching male band for myself with a stone set in the middle (secondary). I had drawings, examples, everything laid out in extreme detail. I also told him right off the bat that this was my first time doing anything like this, so his help and guidance was very much needed. "No problem, this is what we do. We will take care of you." From there, we started with the eternity bands. He identified that they were single cut diamonds, scanned the gold with his nifty machine, and we continued to talk about trade in value. I had multiple items to trade in and he started scanning and talking and taking his own notes on my receipts. After talking about the bands and trade ins, I had more than enough to pay for the eternity bands with trade in, but he was unsure if there were enough single cut diamonds to complete the band. He would reach out to me and let me know if there was an additional fee to add any extra stones. From there... we started to look at bands for me and he told me that because the other rings we less than I anticipated, I could get a heavier gold ring (an additional $200) from what I said from square one... I do not want to pay more than 1500 for everything including trade in. From there, he said, "you got it". He pulled out paperwork, started to get his people on ordering bands to start setting the eternity bands... and we picked out a pick stone for my band. When all was said and done, he gave me 2 pink slips with 1 total. That total was paid in the store. When I left, I had 2 pink slips and a total of under 500 paid out of pocket. Exactly what I had planned for. All I was waiting for was word that there were enough stones to make the eternity bands. The next phone call I get is that the rings are ready. No word about the stones or the settings just that the order is ready to be picked up. When I arrive, I am told that only my ring is paid for, and the eternity rings are owed an additional $600. On reviewing the rings, they are not eternity rings, they were only filled half way... meaning we should have purchased more and I should have been contacted. I told the young man working that these had been paid for and were not what I ordered. The yellow copy that reflected that amount owed had been changed from the copy that I received. Since I did not have the copy on me... I left with my ring and a request to talk with RICK, because there was clearly a breakdown in communication somewhere. I received a call from RICK about an hour later. He insisted that I was mistaken, there was clearly an amount due on my pink slip and since I did not have a copy, there was nothing he could do. He threatened to sell the rings if I did not want them, somewhat forcing my hand. I immediately went back to Paradise Jewelers, and paid the additional $600. They showed me the yellow copy that did not reflect my pink copy. Because I had no choice, I paid the $600, just to get the rings in my possession. I left with a yellow copy of my original $500 purchase. They kept the altered yellow copy showing the additional $600. I went home and found my copies. When I followed up with Paradise and RICK, they had me send them copies of my receipts. From there, RICK goes into defense mode and gives me 2 conflicting excuses, never addressing the ETERNITY element. 1. The price was incomplete because I did not know if we were going to need more stones. 2. The price was on the paperwork, RICK just never tallied everything up. Sometimes he does the tally after the work. I never received any phone call about anything... and when I asked him about this, he pretty much just called me stupid and kept on referencing that he has been doing this for 42 years. The final communication I receive from RICK is "I never wish to ruin a customer relationship, but yes, best you find a new jeweler." So in the end, I went in with a flexible budget, was very clear about what I wanted. I paid more than expected, was not treated with any sort of respect once I had walked out and already paid (or so they told me and wrote down)... and did not get what I want. Be careful... Silver tongue devil RICK. Be sure to take your own notes... they alter receipts, so possibly audio recording, because he can run in circles. read more

I was looking for a reputable jeweler to repair several pieces of jewelry, including both my wedding band and engagement ring. A friend of mine had good luck with Paradise so I went down there with her to discuss what my options were. I had held off on the repairs because I assumed it would be costly and would take a long time. I met with the jeweler and another associate and we went over the different costs and options to either repair or replace the setting. We agreed on replacement and he explained what he was going to do. It turned out more beautiful than I could have anticipated and the price was very reasonable. Throughout the process I was treated professionally and was very confident that they would make sure I walked out of there as a happy customer. I was told Both watches were "serviced" with batteries but not tested according to Paradise policy....only one was working but expected to pay for both. We live in Paradise - San Clemente, California and so it's only natural to want to find every little piece of paradise that's in this town. So, I found this jeweler by reading YELP, and noticed that Paradise Jewelers,( PJs), has almost all 5 star reviews. (There's bound to be a grouch in every group!) I had some turquoise jewelry pieces that needed repair and Josh did a pretty good job with them. I also brought in an antique garnet broche, that came from old world Czechoslovakia. He replaced the missing garnet on that piece to restore it's historical value. To say I was pleased is an understatement - I was delighted with the excellent work and the promptness of the work. I paid him, and asked for my wedding ring to be cleaned, which he was happy to do. He said it would only take about 10 minutes, but within one minute, he came back and informed me that the diamond of my wedding ring was hanging by a thread! He showed me that two of the six prongs were bent in a way that would allow the diamond to slip off of the setting. I wear my ring every day - I never take it off - and I forgot to get it checked up for -about 25 years! I guess I'm lucky some times. That ring has brought me the best luck throughout my life, or is it just that I somehow managed to marry the best man in the world? Josh informed me that it's a miracle that the diamond didn't already fall off of my wedding band - the prongs were worn down to nothing. He repaired all 6 prongs within a day, and my ring was so beautifully repaired and shiny! It hasn't looked this beautiful in about ten years! I most highly recommend Paradise Jewelers to anyone and everyone who needs their beloved jewelry pieces cleaned, repaired or retooled. Give them a chance, you will be happy that you did. In the back of the shop, there are some wonderful collections. Everything from Lladro figurines, to baseball memorabilia, and some rock and roll legendary mementos are available for sale in this neat little shop. There's more interesting stuff too, but I have to cut this short. I had my husband come along with me when I picked up my wedding ring, so he could enjoy seeing the baseball collection of real historic baseball treasures! A while ago, my husband took my wedding rings in to clean and check the settings. Whoever waited on him, decided to change the prongs so they are now set way above the diamond than originally. The result has been snags in just about every garment I own. This is a significant diamond and I they were probably trying to be helpful. I just wish they would have asked before doing it. Let's just start with I should have read some of the reviews. My process with Rick, the owner, started off really well. I had a bracelet I wanted to get custom made. I went through the process, which for some reason took much longer than expected, (2 1/2 months) and finally was able to see an end product. The problem I have is that I was quoted $600 as an estimate, then I went back in during this process and ask more questions. Rick went through line item costs with me and gave me an estimate again of $600. He did tell me the price could vary a little bit because he did not know the final weight of the bracelet in question. When the actual bracelet came back and now the cost was $870. For a $600 bracelet , it went up $270?!? That's almost 50% of the original quote. I questioned the pricing again. At this stage Rick got very mad and insulted and started accusing me of calling him a crook and having a lack of integrity. Although I had never said the things and told him that calmly, he still got quite mad and angry and raised his voice. I have never experienced a more non professional situation with a business owner. He exclaimed he has been doing this for 35 years. To that statement I responded, that he was the expert and in my opinion his quote should have been more accurate based on his years of experience. I told him the new price was out of my budget and I would not be buying the bracelet. He threw my $200 deposit on to the counter and told me never to come back into his shop again. And based on that and the experience and poor customer service I received from him, I absolutely will never go back into his shop again. Buyer beware!!! You may get yelled at for asking questions. Heaven forbid you may want to make sure everyone is on the same page. I would not recommend this jewelry/pawn shop to anyone. read more

I have lived in this area for over 25 years. Purchased many things from Paradise. Beautiful turquoise bracelet, diamond earrings and the most stunning Paradise Watch which always draws a compliment or two. Why I insisted on going to the LA Jewelry Mart to upgrade the diamond in my wedding ring over the years, I am not sure. I guess I thought I would get the best price along with the best product. And I traveled North to LA and traded in my existing diamond along with cash for a new and bigger stone. This year we hit 35 years and I decided to head to Paradise Jewelers to see what they could do for me. That is when I found out how foolish I have been. Upon examining my diamond I was told there were several feather like flaws in the stone along with a couple of carbon marks. Which I could see clearly when shown. I never liked the 6 prong mounting I thought the work was sloppy. When we talked about what I paid and what the stone was worth, I was understandably disappointed. For about the same price I purchased a gorgeous stone, and Paradise and their incredible service department mounted it with a four prong setting. It is elegant and I have had dozens of compliments at work on how it sparkles. This is a quality stone and is way above the anything I was getting from the Jewelry Mart. I simply love it! I have never been more pleased with an item, the service and the respect that is afforded when working with this Amazing group of people. As far as I am concerned ANY future repairs or purchases I will ever make in the Jewelry arena, will be Paradise. The stones are phenomenal, service is quality, efficient and they always clean my wedding ring when I come in. I don't have to ask they insist on doing it. Now that I have done a direct comparison it's a no brainer, Paradise will get absolutely ALL of my business. read more
