This place deserves a zero rate. I have worn eyeglasses since I was 5 years old, so 40 years now and I have never seen such an unprofessional, callous, rude, and unconsiderate doctor like this. Don't waste your time. You will pay a lot of money to be treated like trash. The man walks into the room and never introduces himself. Start touching your eyes without washing your hands. Dismissed a complaint of eye pain, on the second round of antibiotics previously instructed by an out-of-state doctor to see my ophthalmologist because he saw eye inflammation. I can barely raise my left eye lead, but for him is no problem even though he can't see the back of my eye and therefore doesn't know if there is pressure on a cranial nerve. I have been in the health care field for 20 years, and I can recognize a practitioner who will endanger a patient, and this doctor is one of them. read more

I do not say this lightly but rather in an attempt to save readers from the fate I now face. If you look up the dictionary definition of narcissist, you will discover everything I believe about Dr. Robert Del Pero. I was referred to him by a doctor I deeply respected. And even though I found Del Pero to be rude and uncaring and extremely arrogant, I allowed him to operate on my eye. Bedside manners, I told myself, are not what matters here. I am an old man with good vision and have never needed glasses except for reading; however, a cataract had begun to cloud my left eye. Del Pero promised my family and me that if I were willing to pay him $1500 out of my pocket, he would absolutely, no doubt about it, give me extremely clear distance and midrange vision with no need for glasses except for reading. He would do this by replacing my old lens with a toric IOL, a lens designed to do exactly what he had promised. Instead, he mangled my vision, and he says nothing can repair it, ever. No apologies. Hours late, no apologies. Left surgery for a long phone call, no apologies. Blurred my vision for life, no apologies. Admits to no mistakes, no apologies. Has billed me and the insurance companies for thousands of dollars for a failed surgery, no apologies. Continues to send me more bills, no apologies. Even tried to blame me for the outcome. Worse doctor I've ever seen!!!!! I wish I could give 0 stars. When I walked in the staff were horrible talking bad about patients. The doctor was so unprofessional and rude told me "Look this is going to sound insulting but you just need to relax on a scale of 1-10 your eye problem is like a .5" I wouldn't recommend this eye doctor to my worst enemy. My appointment was at 3:10pm I didn't get seen until 4:35pm. The whole staff was rude and this eye doctor is a joke. I wish I could give 0 stars. I saw him for a vision problem/ cataract. 3 visits. Then getting scheduled for surgery. They never told me that my insurance didn't cover their office. I only found out when Del Pero sent me a bill for 3 visits. Had I not found out and had the surgery I would have had to pay it out of pocket. But wait, there's more ... I ordered glasses to hopefully improve my vision until surgery. I knew my insurance wouldn't cover the cost as it was too soon after my sass lenses. So I personally paid. The lenses for my sunglasses were the wrong color entirely. There was no improvement in my vision but I accepted the clear glasses and rejected the wrong lenses. They will not return my money. Dr. Del Pero is the best eye surgeon I have ever met. He is very thorough, professional, and highly skilled. I have read some of the reviews which really surprise me. Either people are not informed, or are not responsible for themselves. People also need to understand the reality of working in Medical Care. The number of "no show" appointments, failure to see their primary providers, not having stuff done which should have been done prior to coming in for an appointment, showing up late, etc. I have been to Dr. Del Pero's office several times either for myself or family members. I have used his services for surgery four times, and non-surgical eye trauma with referral to a retinal specialist once, and 3 times for corneal injuries. I have never seen, experienced, or have heard any negativity of him or his staff. As he is an ophthalmologist, a surgeon, he deals with serious eye issues. He is not an optometrist. People need to be aware what their insurance coverages they have before they see a doctor. This is really not his job, but they will give approximate estimates. It is ironic people go in and expect everything to be "Covered". It is a also sad to think everything is an emergency. If an eye issue is something that comes on slowly, its more of an age related issue, such as Cataracts. Glaucoma, Retinopathy, etc. In most cases not an emergency. This being said, you may not get in immediately. I got hit in the eye with a foreign object. I lost part of my vision, I wanted to keep my vision, and I would not have picked any other surgeon then Dr. Del Pero. He saved my eye! People need to realize the caliber of what type of a physician he is. He is one of the highest rated eye surgeons in America. He was a pioneer and insturmental in LASIK surgery and more. He is not going to small talk with you, he is going to tell you what you need to know, what the problem is, and what needs to be done. My first visits with him were for my father in the 1990's. Age related cataracts. I researched, I called the insurance companies, I did my research. You just don't go in to get a cataract taken care of. You need to see your primary, get a referral, get an appointment, get an exam, get a diagnosis, get labs, EKG, pre operative prescriptions, get scheduled, pick up post operative prescriptions, follow your pre op orders, go to surgery, do your post op care, do a follow up, and then follow up again. As busy as he is, I have always been able to get an appointment based on the acuity of the issue. I hope anyone reading this understands the reality of medical care and perhaps some of the banter on this review from other people can be "Sour grapes". Thank you Dr. Del Pero and staff. Every time we came here there is at least 1 hour and 30 minutes waiting in the lobby after that once you are inside the room another 30 minutes waiting for doctor del Pero. I hear a lady complaining today that she could not wait anymore . The staff told her sorry for the wait and they cannot do anything about it but to complain to the doctor. The staff in the other hand is always chatting with each other and loud. I feel that they are very unprofessional. The doctor is not friendly and something else I feel is negative is that they close for lunch. Their appointments are always backed up. Dr. Del Pero refused to take me as a patient because I had surgery on my left eye 2 years ago I had a lens implanted now I need cataract surgery in my right eye I got a referral from Dr. Tolman to go to Del Pero it took a year to finally get my records from Kaiser Perm where I had the first surgery done because Del Pero wanted to review it I finally got a call back that he would not take me on as a patient I now am going to lose my Driver license because I don't know who I can go to too get the surgery i am new to Yuba City Ca I have only 60 days before my temp license expires from DMV. read more

I think Dr. Del Pero does an excellent job. We might wait a little longer than we would like to occasionally but that is because so many people want to see the doctor. He has replaced lenses in both of my eyes and I've gone from very poor vision to no longer wearing glasses. They do a thorough job and they are very scientific. I don't think he has time for all the pleasantries some people may want but what I want is quality care and that's what you get from Dr. Del Pero. read more

Doctor Del Pero I had such a bad experience I wrote him a letter which in my view fell on deaf ears. I totally agree with some of the reviews that this Doctor and unfortunately it seems the culture around Ophthalmology it is extremely difficult to find a practice that cares about the patient . What is important to me and maybe for those who are going for cataract surgery one would expect to have a careing Doctor not just making it a so called routine assembly line feeling . Making one feel that as a patient you don't count. Sending me out in the sun after eye dilation with out eye protection. And having a video explain the procedur and the person on the video saying that i should have been given a questionnaire that I did not receive I thought the doctor was going to explain all of that to me so i could ask questions. After all these are my eyes that are in question !! And on my second visit a staff person explaining a litany of information as if this is all routine and I should know the subject matter enough to ask questions at the end. Not giving me enough time to ask questions. Last visit before surgery: amazing the Doctor is in an obvious rush and the only thing he wants to bring home to you is that all of the things that could possibly go wrong and he wants me to sign a paper that i understand that . That I did not get a copy of Can you say RED Flag. Done with all that I left I was at BelAir market and I remember i should have gotten a copy I left emedeity before they closed and got a copy. State of California law states you get a copy of when ever you sign. The letter that I wrote only provoked Dr. Del Pero to dismiss me as his patient . What is amazing to to me in all my visits never a mention that we are going to do the best job we can never a feeling that they actualy care. Took my mother to this eye specialist upon the referral of her optometrist. The staff is less than friendly and abrupt. Dr. Del Pero never once smiled or even acted like he was happy to have a patient. He even went so far as to interrupt my mother and myself on more than one occasion. Not expecting to be treated like anyone special, just expecting some respect from both Dr. Del Pero and his staff. There was only one staff member that had any people skills.
