First time trying an omakase and throughly enjoying my experience at Delage. Each course was perfectly curated, flavorful and superb. The nigiri was so fresh and well balanced. The atmosphere was intimate which may the service personal and attentive.

Had my omakase birthday dinner here. The food was great. The palate cleanser was different and memorable. The owner was personable and service was good too. Came in on a Sunday and counter space was full. Was easy to find parking too.

Lucky to secure a last minute spot for Valentine's Day! The dishes served were well thought out in that they had a variety of dishes that gave a good contrast in flavor and presentation. It also wasn't purely nigiri but had lots of different items that reminded me more of kaiseki. The servers are great and polite in explaining everything that comes out and the place feels spacious enough for the 9-12 customers at the seating. In general, we liked each dish but felt that the rice could have been better especially when compared to Sushi Yoshizumi. The size of the beer glass is also tiny. But we really liked the order of the dishes and variety such that it didn't feel like a generic nigiri omakase.

Super special place for a special occasion! So glad Oakland's got a spot like this totally worth it. It's a very intimate space with limited seating/services so make sure to book a head. High quality food that's beautifully presented. Dishes are on par but more visually appealing that its sister restaurant utzutzu.

A true neighborhood gem! Came for my birthday and loved it. Great service, delicious food, fun experience. The place is small and simply decorated - the focus is truly on the food. And it's pretty reasonably priced given the amount and quality of food you receive. Great option for date night or other special occasion! I'm a big fan of omakase and this place did not disappoint. Local ingredients thoughtfully put together to create some pretty great bites. One of the standouts for me was the crystal bread - it's super creative and unique. I've never seen it anywhere else. All of the fish is fresh and high quality - hard to pick a favorite. I will definitely be back.

NOTE: When their Resy says to get here early to find parking, they mean it!!! We arrived 20 mins ahead and still found ourselves speedwalking over after parking 3 blocks away. Not too many spots nearby. Date night here~ My bf and I are omakase fiends, so naturally Delage was on our must-try list. I booked a week in advance. Almost missed it with how unassuming the storefront is-- the place is tiny and decorated humbly. Upon entering, you're welcomed warmly by chefs and staff. For $125, it's a steal for the sheer quality and quantity (9 courses...!). I'm surprised they don't charge more. Gorgeous presentation and thoughtfully balanced flavors. My favorites would have to be the Spotted Knifejaw and Sea Bream-- so sweet and delicate. All dishes were served at once to everyone seated at the counter, like clockwork. It was great having the chance to chat with the chef as they prepared our meal, it's quite intimate and feels very homey. A few of the flavor combinations were maybe a little too advanced for my palate (I still think the crystal bread tastes like plastic and the soup was too salty), but overall loved the experience.

Had a reservation on a Thursday night. Parking was easy and this is in a relatively safer area of Oakland. The amuse bouche was amazing, the crystal bread somehow does taste like bread. The housho maki was very savory. The sushi and nigiri were good and fresh but did not blow me away. I appreciated the addition of other flavors to it aside from wasabi. The ginger was very fresh as well and clearly pickled in house. The black cod was delicious and one of our favorite courses. The donburis were good, but I did expect them to be better. Also wish they specified the fish in the "assorted fish" donburi. The yasai soup was so wonderful. So hearty and heart warming. The dessert, strawberry pudding left much to be desired. It had an unpleasant almost jello texture and wasnt creamy as expected. The ambiance of this spot is intimate and quiet which is appreciated. Service is great as well. For the price, I would say this omakase is definitely worth it.

Wow! Just wow! A delightful experience. Not only was each plate beautiful but it was so delicious! I wasn't too sure at first when I heard California inspired omakase but they sure delivered! Very limited seating (8 people) at the bar watching the chef work and cute decor added to this unique experience. They also have tables for 4 people but it's so fun to watch them make the food. Summary: Local ingredients and a rotating menu of delicious and beautiful plates for 125/pp. It's more a treat/celebratory spot for me but well worth it since I would have imagined a higher price point Can't wait for the next occasion to eat here!

I was very pleasantly surprised by how beautiful each dish was. And of course tasted very delicious!! There is only one main chef and one server but it is a tiny restaurant with only a handful of seats. There are six seats at the bar and a table that could seat four. So make sure to make a reservation! There is a different set course menu everyday. I am attaching a photo of the menu but it had a pleasant appetizer, salad, 2 pc sushi, 4 pc nigiri, palate cleanser (ours was a super yummy plum/yuzu drink), fish katsu, chirashi, 4 pc nigiri again, soup, and dessert! It was very worth the price ($125 per person plus tax plus tip came out to be $326 for two of us). It was yummy but SO PRETTY!!! Each dish was such an art Would definitely go back many many times. (FYI - there is only limited street parking)

2.2024 My BF surprised booked Delage to celebrate Valentine's. It's our tradition to eat omakase for Vday :) This year marks our 6yr. Omakase is our favorite and we've tried over 20 different places including SoCal and some in Japan :) We both agreed this place hit the mark in terms of creativity, presentation, quality, and affordability. FOOD: The menu came with technically 11 dishes and the style is closer to kaiseki rather than traditional omakase as they start you off with small dishes, nigiris, small dishes, and back to nigiris and end with a dessert. Some standout dishes that I thought were super unique and/or delicious: - glass/clear bread tasted exactly like bread but literally looks like clear glass. Such a cool and unique dish I've never seen anywhere else! - ALL their nigiris were high quality and we enjoyed the variety of fish they picked for the menu and the seasoning and topping on each piece was the perfect bite. It made me happy-dance multiple times (that's how you know it's mouthgasmic!) - when eating omakase, I want to eat at least: uni, toro, wagyu, & salmon. Delage had it all and more. - OMG, their ginger was also very unique here. Not your typical yellow slice of gingers, but rather small pink pickled pieces that came with the perfect amount to palette cleanse before each fish. the small details! - I love the dishware they served each dish :) It's such a big component of omakase and they truly picked out some great pieces! SERVICE: FEMALE SUSHI CHEF! I've eaten at so many omakases and this was my first time being served by a female chef! LOVE LOVE LOVE! There were two chefs total at the counter and although they didn't make conversation like some other places do, it was still a pleasant experience. The counter was also significantly lower than the chef's counter, so the nigiris weren't presented in the traditional way where they presented each piece to you individually. I personally prefer it presented piece by piece because you remember exactly what you are eating at the moment. The nigiris were presented 4 at a time at the chef's counter and the rest of the dishes were brought out by waitresses. The staff was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the cuisine. Another aspect that we appreciated was they serve your food at your pace rather than everyone else's at the counter. So even though we were the 4th party to get our dishes initially, we were the first to finish and leave the restaurant. AMBIANCE: Very intimate and small interior. The counter sits 8 people and 2 additional tables seat 6 people. Very retro and old-school Japanese decor :) There is no bathroom inside the shop, so you have to ask for the code to use the bathroom in the same plaza. Overall, would definitely recommend this place for quality omakase for an affordable price!

Brought my sister here for her first omakase experience in Oakland! It was a bit difficult to find located next to a marketplace type restaurants, They don't open the doors until exactly 8pm so everyone for the 8pm reservation was waiting outside. Then when the doors open u check in with the server who asks u to wear a mask and then seats u. It's a small space not too fancy but u can sit at the bar in front of chef or one table in the corner. One thing i thought was interesting was u need to pay and tip first before the experience. This kind of threw me off bc i like to decide on tip after the overall experience, i def would have tipped more afterwards. Then the courses start trickling out. Loved the first 3 courses the most. The crunchy smoked salmon appetizer followed by a beautiful little mermaid plate that had sparkly foam and seaweed and caviar- something i think Ariel would eat for dinner :) I loved the first set of nigiri. So soft buttery fish and delicious flavors. The alaskan cod was nice with the katsu sauce and i liked the mini bowls of spicy fish and uni. The 2nd nigiri set was okay the mochi dessert was so fresh chewy and delicious!! Would recommend to try!

Delage is a wonderful experience which focuses on the food. Quality is top notch, creative, and the staff is excellent. Two of us sat at the counter for an 8PM seating last Sunday. Atmosphere isn't much but pleasant and we didn't care. Again, the quality was off the charts. I only have a few pictures of the courses but they were all excellent. The chef also gave us a taste of this wonderful Chardonnay that his beverage guy brought in who happened to be eating as well. Money well spent here as one would pay nearly double I bet in some super bougie/chic atmosphere for similar quality. Cool neighborhood too. Hope to return here sooner than later!

The good: fresh, quality ingredients The bad: started with the host/wait list. I accidentally added my name twice for a solo diner. Host thought it was a mistake and completely removed me from the wait list and seated other parties that came in after me. Thoroughly confused - she didn't even call my name to confirm so I had to go up to her and ask. No apology either. Was seated at the counter where solo diners usually sit. Service was non existent. Server came up to me and ask "what would you like to order?" I've never been there before. No "hi my name is ... I'll be your server" nada. They're just a machine - people in people out. The ramen - broth was fine. The squiggly noodles aren't my favorite. Expected to have kernel corn but had corn ribs instead (good thing I'm good with chopsticks!) The charshu was just okay. Enoki topping was just ... aight. The nice touch was that they didn't put it in the ramen and served it on the side to preserve its crunchiness because it definitely needed the texture! It was loud, busy, and nothing spectacular about the dining scene here. $55 dollars later (ramen, 2 additional toppings, one box of sake) ... I sadly don't think it was worth it.

The price is reasonable for the variety, for the bay, and the sushi is fresh and tasted great. The restaurant itself is elegant and cute. Highlights for me were all the Japanese fish, which are specially curated and killed with a technique to reduce fish stress. The taste was close to what I got in Japan, and each coming piece was exciting. The sashimi courses at the beginning were also amazingly crafted, especially the first tuna course. Where it lost a star for me was 1) the amount of food was quite small. In total it was about 17 courses, but each is essentially one small piece of sushi. What makes this place so special is their fish supplier, famed Japanese fish concierge Hiroshi Hasegawa. He's known for sourcing rare and unusual fish that are rarely sold commercially, and he sometimes even free-dives to catch them himself. Sushi Salon is currently the only restaurant in the United States that he supplies, which means you truly won't get this exact experience anywhere else. The rice alone deserves its own praise. The vinegar they use is only supplied to a select few in the U.S., and in my opinion, it was the best sushi rice I've ever had. I could honestly eat the rice on its own. The space is incredibly intimate, with only seven seats per seating at 5:00pm and 7:30pm. Watching each course being prepared right in front of us made the entire experience feel personal and immersive. Every piece of fish was excellent, but the standouts for me were the saba, uni, medai, ninjin, and kegani. Joji Nonaka and Anna Osawa were wonderful hosts. They engaged with guests throughout the evening and shared thoughtful insights and history behind the fish and techniques, which made the meal even more meaningful. Parking was surprisingly easy with street parking nearby, though the surrounding area feels a bit gritty, so I wouldn't leave anything visible in your car. At the end of the omakase, you're given the option to order additional pieces or specialty items not included in the set menu. I highly recommend taking advantage of that and trying as much as you can. Overall, if you're looking to splurge on a truly unique and elevated omakase experience, Sushi Salon is absolutely worth it. While I waited, I hung out at their sister ramen restaurant next door, where Lia, the bartender, was fantastic and made the wait enjoyable. That said, reservations are definitely a good idea for my next visit! I ordered the OG Omakase set, which featured all the tried-and-true classics, and every course was beautifully prepared. They share the bathrooms with the ramen spot next door, which looks like an equally good spot to check out next time.
