I may live in a small state, but I have the greatest team of medical care professionals. This week I was concentrating on my vision. Monday it was my Retinal Specialist, Dr. Schwartz, and today it was my eye surgeon, Dr. Belson. When Dr. Schwartz pronounces me STABLE for another 6 months and Dr. Belson says that with even my eye issues stacked against me, I see almost 20/20 corrected, I am one HAPPY old woman!! Unfortunately, you can't ignore vision problems but I am cared for by the best, so I know that if something weird pops up, my eye care team which also includes Dr. Taylor, my optometrist, we can address it. I brought my cousin to have catarract surgery this morning and was told that I couldn't leave tha facility, as this was the institutions policy. I had hoped to run an errand while surgery was being performed, but can't do that as i am being held hostage. Having had multiple outpatient procedures at multiple different facilities who have not required "imprisonment", I am amazed at the lack of considerat I on for my time. In some of my prior experiences, I even had different people drop me off and pick me up!!!!! In addition, the waiting room temperature is unbearable. I would not reco.mend this facility to anyone based on the total lack of concern for family members. read more

I wanted a new pair of frames so I brought in my eyewear prescription 7 weeks ago to have new glasses made. I was told it would take 2 weeks. It is now 3 phone calls later and seven weeks only to be told the glasses are not ready. Excuse #1 was the Xmas holiday, excuse #2 was requesting new rush delivery, excuse #3 now is lab error in finished RX. Totally unprofessional service. Btw, I have never had issues with the MD's here, just the optical store. For the prices they charge, there should be better accountability. read more

Would give negative stars if possible. Had temporary "Fresno" adhesive put on, to see if prism glasses would help my nystagmus. Didn't look at them in store, but at home they came out of the case mangled. I went back, they blamed me, and then blamed my husband who transported them on a 2 min. drive. Rude and nasty. read more

Always professional & always pleasant- they generally move you swiftly- always confident I am getting great care

This practice is run like most states DMV. The wait to check in is often 10 or 15 people deep. Once you check in they move you from room to room when actually nothing is happening. I have seen 2 of the doctors who came to the appointments at least an hour late and tried to rush thru the exams. Questions? Better be quick as the doc has something more important to do. Finally done and now it's time to get back in that initial line which has grown to 20 folks.....just to hand them a piece of paper. Little respect for their patients time. No accommodation for disabled. I use cane and am not comfortable standing for long periods of time. Lots of choices. This practice is no longer one I will use after recovery from surgery. read more

I went here to order a new pair of Silhouette glasses with the prescription I received from an optometrist in Salisbury. The nice man at the first desk in the Optical Center greeted me and started helping me right away, even though I showed up about an hour before they closed. I ended up ordering the same frames I currently had, because they work well for me. However, the shape of the lens was a mystery. They waited while I called my old Maryland eye doctor where I originally had ordered them several years ago and, after two attempts, was able to get the lens shape, which Delaware Eye Institute also had. Oh happy day!! After that, the process moved right along. The glasses were ordered and I was told approximately 2 weeks they would be in. A week and a half went by and I got a call to tell me they had come in. Now, the past couple times I ordered my glasses in Maryland, they had to be reordered because of some error or another. I am still convinced those folks gave me way too strong of a prescription, but that's a story for another day. I showed up and my same tech was there and immediately sat me down. I put the glasses on (ready to be disappointed due to prior experiences at other places in the past, thinking maybe my past problems were all in my head), and they were PERFECT! He made just a couple minor adjustments to make them fit even better. Needless to say, I am over the moon happy! I had my old glasses for over 5 years. The prescription strength was spot on (thank you Peninsula Eye Center) and I am a customer for life! I plan to schedule my next eye exam here because I live in DE now. This practice is a mill. There is no personal touch, no concern for the patient's time and no service ethic. The waiting room is packed with people waiting for over an hour for their appointments. No one advises on what's going on. Find another place. read more

I would give them a zero if possible. As of 6/4/2025, they have cancelled my appointment multiple times over the last 7 months and now have delayed my appointment on 6/19/2025 yet again until December 2025 due to a scheduling issue. I presently have a vision problem, and they expect me to wait another 7 months. Incompetence at its finest. Go to Will Eye in PA if you're looking for quality medical eye care. It will be worth the drive and less time in the long run. read more

I have been going to Delaware Eye Institute in Rehoboth Beach for over four years. I see Dr. Adam Schmidt for my yearly appointment. He is thorough, kind and very professional. He makes sure all my questions or concerns regarding my eyesight are answered. Recently I saw Dr. Curry because I need cataract surgery in both eyes. His passion for what he does was obvious to me. He had a video for me to watch and answered all my questions . The entire staff that works with him were helpful and knowledgable. Maylinda who goes through your paperwork and what to expect was so helpful and returned calls promptly if you had further questions. The day of my surgery, I was met by a staff member at check-in who was kind, friendly and welcoming. When I was taken back to the pre-op area, Ann was my nurse that got me ready. She explained everything that was going on to me, talked to me about general things to relax me. The anesthesiologist, OR nurse and everyone I encountered that day were reassuring. Dr. Curry spoke to me before surgery as well. His upbeat manner puts you at ease. I have had only great experiences with Delaware Eye Institute. I appreciate the professionalism of the staff and their kindness. read more

My husband was diagnosed with a detached retina. As I am a patient there i adked them to call them first. We were told Dr. Schwartz was not taking new patients and they couldn't help him. In hind sight they did us a big favor. We were redirected to Dr. Peck who was outstanding, professional and reattached my husband's retina the same night. read more

Loved them when I first visited two years ago. But I cannot get through to them on the phone, via email or on FB. I have been calling for two weeks and no one picks up the phone. Took my husband multiple times to get through only to find out that they are booking in JANUARY (it was May when he called!) I loved my glasses but sad to say, I have to look elsewhere. I don't mind waiting for an appointment, but need to have someone pick up the phone. read more

First the good-- lovely building, close for Sussex co residents, Phila Eye Dr comes here sev times a month (patients come to see him from all over). Now for the bad: door to entrance is unmanageable for persons in wheelchair or walker; too much "musical rooms"/ triage for older patients, I have NEVER gotten out of here in under 2 hours!!! The scheduling remains poor-- patients should not wait 2.5 hours for what amounts to 15 min appointments. Alternative to this is a different provider in Salsbury- longer distance drive. If just getting a basic eye exam go elsewhere. read more

I like Dr. Smith, pleasant and competent. My major complaint, and why I won't ever go back, is that they charge $35 just to print out your prescription, EVEN IF YOU ARE GETTING IT FILLED THERE!! This is against federal regulations! read more

Clinically I have no complaints although it does feel like you're on an assembly line. My gripe is that it takes over an hour on hold to get through to speak to ANYONE - I would've been happy with an automated attendant. And according to the very helpful staff in the Optical Store out front - it's been this way for awhile. Completely UNACCEPTABLE. read more

This facility does what you need them to do. But please make sure that you have the time for this appointment. I've been here twice now and never leave here less then an hour. Both of my appointments have been between 8-9 am and they seem to already be behind. My first appointment I explained, was my first optometry appointment in my life and would need direction, waited an hour to get the first portion of my examination, they dilated my eyes (didn't explain this portion) and then had me sit in the second waiting room while my eyes dilated (waited at least an additional 15 minutes ). I sat with the actual doctor for less then 5 minutes. I feel that if I had additional questions he would have answered them but considering it was only a routine exam I didn't. The clients (primarily elderly) in this building need more time to talk to the assistants and doctors based on the nurses apologies as to why they were behind. My second visit I had also asked for a contact fitting. I waited again longer in the dark waiting room. At least 20-30 minutes. Reception didn't explain the charges I had. I did not get an itemized receipt. The seemed rushed and I had to ask to schedule my recheck appointment for my contact fitting. My appointment today was scheduled for 9:00am I arrived at 8:50 am and didn't leave until 11:11. read more

Took twenty minutes to get to the head of line to check in. Then at 9.06 he was called back to see doctor. At 9.30 I texted and he still has not been seen. This is every time. And don't try to call on the phone. You sit on hold forever. read more

I can't say that I can provide a review of the doctors when I couldn't get passed reception. I made an appointment, the usual way, I called. I was lucky enough to get an appointment for February 2023 since I called in late November of 2022; Meanwhile, my husband got an appointment for July 2023. The only reason we switched doctors was that our insurance did not have our previous doctor in-network. Bummer, because I really liked My Eye Dr. I walked into the office and it was packed and there was a line for reception. I was also a bit concerned because I did NOT get a friendly reminder call AND the waiting room was plastered with signs that read: "SHORT STAFFED." My first thought was if you have to post so many signs then the office here is poorly managed-certainly defensive. Trust me ...it is!! Don't bother trying to use their services-EVER! Turned out they had no record of my appointment, no apologies, NOTHING! I was told I was mistaken and booked it somewhere else. So My questions to her were: Is this the Delaware Eye Institute? Is this John J. Williams Highway? My response: Then I'm in the right place. I received no apologies! Instead, they gave me an appointment for late November 2023. You do the math. Perhaps if my eye was hanging off my face they might have provided me with just a bit of compassion or ANYTHING! The question she had for me was could I prove that I called or that I had an appointment? Are you kidding me? PROVE it? Great services!! I left... called my health insurance company and they gave me the name of a place in Ocean City. I got an appointment the very next day. Wink! Vision was excellent. If you are planning to go to Delaware Eye Institute don't bother unless you love wasting you time. I have never gotten out of there in under 2 hours even for a 15 minute appointment. The final straw was waiting three month for an appointment with their cataract surgeon I waited an hour after my appointment time, then time to dilate my eyes with the technician. After another hour I finally saw the surgeon. I found him to be rather rushed. I was told that I would receive a surgical scheduler to call within two weeks to schedule a pre-operation measurement appointment. Hah, that was over a four weeks ago and though I left several messages for her for the past two weeks, she has yet to return my call. If they can't schedule a pre-op appointment how can then even think when the actual surgery would be. I will never go back there. This morning I called the Wilner Eye Institute in Baltimore. I have an appointment in 11 days with a top cateract MD PHD surgeon and researcher. Yes I know it is a longer drive but I will get outstanding service and I trust my eyes to real professionals, not Delaware Eye Institute. read more

After waiting a full hour after my scheduled appointment time I asked how much longer it might be and was told "a few more minutes" (read 10-20). I left, cancelling my pre-op appointment today and my surgery (thank goodness it's elective) next week. I cannot go forward utilizing practice that has so little respect for their patients. Having been involved in medical practices for more than 25 years it is apparent they massively overbook with total disregard for their patients. read more

Every appointment I've had with Delaware Eye Institute (DEI) I waited a minimum of 2 hrs and sometimes 3 hours. The staff is rude as though they are doing you a favor the doctors are very apologetic but this is their business model. Like an airline double book. The doctors that I saw for cataracts seem not to be very experienced and I saw 2 doctors because Doctor Chang informed me he was not doing surgery because his wife was soon a have a baby. Fine with having a baby but why am l seeing you??? I then was passes off onto Dr. Curry not much better. I elected to see a doctor in the Washington DC are where there more choices and was glad to make the trip back. I personally would not recommend DEI but not everyone has the option to go to Philadelphia or DC where the doctors are more established and experienced at least in my option. If you use DEI be abused if the wait time and quality of care. read more

I remember going to this Delaware Eye Institute a few years ago! The doctor there was in a hurry to schedule Cataract Removal but since I was ONLY 66-years-young and thought it could wait a few more years! He went off on some mindless RANT / TIRADE about how I was going to GO BLIND! How I wouldn't be able to RENEW my Drivers License, never mind at the time it was NO up for RENEWAL for another 6 & a 1/2 years! HONEST! never ever before felt so degraded, wanted so BAD to SHOVE my YUGE 15-EEE way UP where the Good Lord SPLIT him but I restrained myself! I would NO recommend Delaware Eye Institute to my worst enemy, I wouldn't take neither of out 2 little Poochies to that $%#&hole like for nothing in the world!
