I've never felt so compelled to write a review, but I absolutely have to share the experience I had with Deleware Rentals. Me and a few friends were visiting Put in bay during Aug. 6-7. After setting up our campsite, me and another friend went to pick up a cart around 3pm. I paid for the cart in cash, and wasn't given any type of receipt. In order to rent with them, you have to leave either a card or your ID, which wasn't a big deal. We had the cart for less than 5 minutes before the steering failed and wrecked the entire cart! My friend drove the cart out of the lot just down the street to his car. Once he got into his car, I started driving the cart. He warned me that the steering was a little wonky, but how bad could it be, right? Totally wrong. I drove down a straight street. I stopped at a stop sign at a 3-way intersection, and waited for cars to go by to turn left. For the entire turn, I had the wheel as far over as it would go. It would barely turn and I ended up going over the curb. The curb was standard height but somehow it damaged that cart so badly that the cost of repairs was $750. Once I went over the curb, the steering was completely gone and the cart wouldn't move at all. There was a man across the street who witnessed the entire ordeal, said he worked for the company, and that he was going to call someone to pick us up. The woman who initially rented me that cart arrived, and was being very very rude. When I told her what happened, she made it evident with her tone of voice that she didn't believe me. She responded with "It just didn't turn??" and "Well how fast were you going???" I was turning left from a stop sign, in a golf cart that doesn't go faster than 20mph. How fast could I be going?? Anyway, she told me that she was on the phone with the owner and he estimated the repair cost to be $500. Upon our arrival back, I was given a final price of $750, with all the parts and their prices listed in the picture attached to this review. (Note that steering joint is listed twice, with two different prices...) I asked if I could be billed, as I didn't have that kind of money with me. She rudely said no and stated that I would need to pay upfront. So I had to have another friend cover the rest of the cost. I paid $185 in cash, which I got no receipt for. I'm a young adult, (21 year old female) and have never been in this kind of situation. So I wasn't sure if I was being taken advantaged of or not. Now that I've returned home and told friends and family about the situation, I'm certain that I got scammed. Unfortunately I didn't check the reviews of this place beforehand. I have absolutely no problem taking responsibility for damaging things, but I feel as if it wasn't my fault because clearly the cart was already on its last legs. I felt as if I couldn't argue the situation because it was so obvious that they wouldn't even believe me. And I knew they would just tell me that they always check out their carts before they hand them out or something similar. Looking at the other reviews, it's obvious that this is not the case, and upkeep maintenance on the carts isn't being preformed. read more

I wish I had read the terrible reviews on Delaware Carts before I made a reservation. I called 3 times in Saturday to clarify things for our reservation on Sunday. I was told we only had to pay for the time used. On Sunday when we checked our carts back in we were told the full day rate applied. When I challenged this citing my telephone conversation I was told that no one would ever tell anyone that and he turned away. Besides that the people at the desk were rude when we arrived and were rude when we checked back in. We went back early in the day because one cart said low on fuel. That part of the family missed an activity. They just said "oh the gage is broken." Crummy. read more

Rented last week. Cart was old, dirty, slow and did not have a windshield. Their add, when I made my ferry reservation said they were the only overnight rental on the island which is why I picked them. This was a lie. There are many that rent overnight. When I tried to cancel and get my money back was told No Refunds. I complained to their Chamber of Comerce, they said there was nothing I could do. I talked to the manager at Deleware who was very rude and unprofessional. I felt like I had been scammed and will never rent from again. read more

I had reserved two golf carts for a girls weekend but unfortunately had to cancel. I followed their cancellation policy and emailed the company three weeks in advance, even though their policy only requires 24 hours. They still charged my credit card and would not answer any emails that I sent to the owner about this matter. I have contacted the Ohio BBB and am currently filing a claim with the Attorney General's Office. Do not rent from them! read more

I rented a golf cart through here because it was the cheapest place that rented to those who are under 21. Soon, I found out why they were so cheap. They informed me that I needed to either leave my ID or my credit card with them, and unfortunately, I let them keep my credit card for the day. When I checked my statement online the next day, I saw that I had 2 pending charges from them. (One of which was full price when I had a coupon.) When they posted to my account, I looked at how they were charged and saw that the one that was the full priced charge was MANUALLY KEYED IN. I emailed them later that day (since they do not have a phone to call for issues). They emailed me back the next day asking for proof of the charges so that they may "look into it". I sent 3 screenshots of proof Saturday at 8:52 AM (they emailed me at 8 & my first email was sent before noon on Friday). I had to send another email today around noon (it's Monday) because I still had not heard back from them. I still have not heard back or got my money refunded. Long story short: if you don't want you card charged twice, overcharged for the second transaction, and no refund sign of getting a refund a week after you leave, DO NOT GET YOUR GOLF CART THROUGH THEM. read more

RIP OFF REPORT. We reserved a cart online for 2 days, Saturday and Sunday, we also chose the option to keep it overnight and extra 20$. Logically that would be keep the cart all day Saturday, Saturday night and return Sunday afternoon. BUT NO It has to be returned by noon on Sunday. I do not see how that it a 2 day rental but after much arguing logic did not prevail and we were even charged extra for returning the cart at 12.30. Do not rent from them!! RIPP OFFFF!!!! read more

I rented a golf cart from delaware . when i returned it they refused to let me use their restroom and were very rude about it. i got angry and walked out. i realized a few days later that they still had my debit card. i called to see if they would send it to me since i live over 200 miles from them. again they were rude and told me the only i could get back was to come there and pick it up .the cart was in bad shape.it backfired every time i stepped on the gas. this is a place to stay away from read more

Although I'm from Norwalk, I've been in Florida for 36 years and not visited the island for years. My sister and I went to Put in Bay to get lifetime national park passes. I dont remember boat routes or who had cart rentals. I searched 'Put in Bay golf carts' and the ONLY thing that came up was greedy Delaware carts. I thought it was the only one! Fact is, its the inly one that charges $65 a day. All others are $35 to $45. Delaware carts IS NOT close to Port Clinton ferry drop off. You have to take a bus at $2.50 each, then walk to town. Carts are HORRIBLE! Fumes and nasues for backward riders. Doesnt matter how long you try to cancel, they wont. They are liars and cheats. ZERO STARS!!! Do not rent from Delaware Rentals. They have old, beat up, broken down carts that are NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. They also have very poor customer service. One of our carts broke down and had to be towed back. Our choice was to sit in the towed cart (illegal) or walk back two miles. So we hopped in the other cart and rode back. They said we broke the law by having 5 in a 4-person cart and had to be charged for the pathetic time spent using the working cart. We weren't given much of a choice! Absolutely the rudest employees I have every had the displeasure to engage..Always a long line..only one nasty person behind the counter moving at a snail pace.. No mention on their web-site or by the nasty employees, before the obligation of renting, they are going to either keep your drivers license or your credit card..which either causes you to "not" be able to get into the locale establishments or render you "unable" to pay for anything..so make sure you have a spare credit card..or better yet rent from someone else...They are awful!! read more

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Read every other comment below and understand this is exactly what will happen. I rented a cart with them and it was stolen. I later come to find out that they issue universal keys for both the locks and the cart. Anyone who rents with them is able to unlock your cart and take it. Mine was stolen for the entire weekend, I used it no more than 10 minutes. When I returned the keys with no cart they refused to issue me back my credit card and send they would mail it IF they found the cart. Still don't have my credit card. Still was charged $217 for a cart I never used. Still haven't heard directly from Delaware, only the answering service (who is absolutely useless). DO NOT RENT WITH THEM!! read more

My sister-in-law was charged for a week's rental of $587.25 when she only signed up for a day & only used it for a day! So, not only was she charged for the week, but she was also charged a day's rental of $76.00! Countless numbers of emails have been sent to the company.They refuse to take any action to remove the $587.25, claiming that it was her mistake. I would be very careful renting from this company. I am only giving this place 1 star because I can't give it 0. I rented a cart from them because you could reserve ahead of time on line. I picked up the cart it was dirty and full of spider webs, we proceded to try and enjoy a day of exploring the island..NOT!! The golf cart was not only in bad shape and dirty I could hardly turn the steering wheel, it could barely make it up a hill. I took it back, they gave me a different one which ended up being worse then the 1st. Went back hoping to get a refund minus the time we had the cart. They refused to give a refund, when I asked to speak to a manager the very RUDE girl at the counter claimed she was the manager, My advice to anyone is to use ANY of the many other cart rental establishments on the island. Delaware has VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. The carts are old, dirty and poorly maintained and not worth the money. Day trip planned with a friend and our families this weekend so wanted to rent a golf cart as Delaware advertised as "close to the ferry." Well, sure, its location is in the heart of town which is convenient when you get there but really it's still about 2 miles from the ferry - not quite an easy walk for the kids and our mothers. When we first called, we were told that we needed to make a reservation so we did. There was virtually no other information even when we called upon our arrival to inquire about directions, changing rentals, cancellations except some "I don't knows" muttered by an unhelpful teen, until we finally arrived later (by a cart we picked up from a place that IS right off the ferry dock) - this information being that they do nothing via phone, everything is online. We did not know and didn't send the requisite email so the gentleman (manager, I presumed?) could not do anything. Not even apologize, smile or deliver decent customer service. Go ahead and rent your golf cart from anywhere else. We chose E's Golf Carts which is literally around the corner from the dock, with cheaper rates and a lovely lady handing out coupons. Posted a negative review several years ago on a few review sites after a horrible experience. They have all magically disappeared. My experience was so terrible, that I will take the time to leave another review. Went to rent a 6 man cart for my bachelor party. My cousin put the rental on his bank card, and when we went to leave, the cart would not start. We went back and was told that it was the only remaining 6 person cart, we would not be getting a refund, and the only solution was to rent 2 four person carts for additional money. Again, no refund for something they charged us for, yet did not have. WTF!! The blonde foreign woman, who I was told was the owner, was so rude after she had our money, I was speechless. Thankfully my cousin works for the bank, so he told her she could keep the carts, and would not be getting the money. These people don't care. So many folks coming through there, customer service and ethical business practices are not a concern. Avoid. read more

HORRIBLE customer service! HORRIBLE ethics and business practices! HORRIBLE ownership! All ferries to the island was cancelled on ALL DAY on 6/27/15 due to a monsoon of a storm. But I am a "pre-planner" and chose to give Delaware Carts my business and pre-booked an all-day golf cart for 6/27/15 (when I could have easily got one at the many different golf cart vendors at 8:45am when we planned to take the very first JetExpress over). Anyway, after contacting them numerous times over my $76.13 charge to my card, they STILL say "they don't control the 3rd party transportation to the island". They are claiming and stated to me "I should've hired a private HELICOPTER, private AIRPLANE, or SWAM from Port Clinton to the island". They will not understand an "act of God" closing BOTH ferries. They must really need the $76.13. HORRIBLE!!!!! UNETHICAL!!! NO COMMON SENSE BUSINESS PRACTICES!!!! They offered for me to use my golf cart within 7 days but I cannot..today was the only day I could, I work the next 7 days. SO BAD. If I could give this place a zero I would, less than zero even better. Absolutely horrible customer service, and, whatever you do DO NOT "reserve" a cart over the phone at 419-285-2724, which is the phone number all over their carts and on the back wall of the check in desk, because they will tell you that's not them, even though they have confirmation paperwork in their hands! Also, if you "reserve" over the phone with a credit card, that is actually considered a non refundable $100 on-line reservation, even though you clearly stated to TWO people over the phone you only want to rent the cart for two hours at $22/hour. Golf carts on the island are a dime a dozen, and every other place has better reviews. I only wish we would have checked this before. Oh, by the way, if we would have just walked up and asked for a cart, we could have gotten it for only two hours! I was advised, over the phone, to reserve one, and I stupidly did it. DO. NOT. USE. THIS. COMPANY. Literally if I could give them ZERO stars I would. Didn't tell us they needed an ID or credit card to reserve a cart until we got there. Didn't tell us to bring back the cart at a certain time before they closed for the day. The girl was rude and shitty. Big and short hair. Then when we we tried to leave at 10pm (a super decent time for Put-in-Bay) they were CLOSED. So we couldn't get a CREDIT CARD BACK. Are you kidding me?? THEY NEVER told us to be back by a certain time to make sure to get our cars back. IT WAS A ONE DAY RENTAL. When I called the number on the shitty piece of paper on the outside of the CLOSED box office I got a person that told me they could do NOTHING about it other than emailing the company. Screw that. LESS THAN 1 STAR: On Saturday Aug. 20, 2016, my husband, his sister and spouse decided to come to Put in Bay to spend the day. On the way to Port Clinton, I made a reservation on my phone (internet) to rent a cart for the day from Delaware Cart Rental. I never received an email confirmation so we weren't sure if we really had a rental. We arrived to the island and went to Delaware Rental and they did have my reservation for the cart for 1 day. We delivered the cart back around 6p, ate dinner and took the Jet back home. On Tuesday morning, I was checking my bank statement and saw the draw on my account for 1/2 of the day rental as we split this with the other party we were with. In addition to this, there was a draw for $587.25. When I notified Delaware Rental of this incorrect draw, they stated I had also rented a cart for a week!. This is impossible as I only entered one reservation so I have no idea where this one was generated from, nor did they provide any paperwork for this reservation when we presented to the counter on Saturday. This vendor does not take any phone calls to discuss the matter and communicates only via email. They are refusing to reimburse the $587.25 for a reservation I did not make. I don't know if there is a glitch in their reservation system but it is frustrating that they can charge for a service that was never received. The irony of this situation is that there was a couple in front of me at the checkout who was disputing a charge for an additional cart that they did not reserve so it makes me wonder if this is a common practice at this place of service. Terrible service. Rented a cart for labor day weekend and they charged me twice for it - understandable, that happens by accident sometimes. So I called after the weekend and they said that it takes 2-3 business days for the security deposit to come off. Ok, again understandable, forgot about it for about a week and then checked again. Still a charge to both my debit and credit card from them, so I called again and apparently they have no phone number for dealing with billing so I had to respond to the confirmation email they originally had sent me. I did and they told me that I need to email them a copy of both statements to show double charging. UMM Hello! I should not be responsible for fixing their mistake! With any company that I have ever worked for it is not the customers responsibility to disprove a mistake that the business made. But I sucked it up and sent the statements today so we'll see if they continue to give me a hard time. Either way that is terrible customer service. Like the above comment said, they have the business and location so they have no reason to care about good service.
