We went when the buffet was opening so all the food was extremely fresh. What I liked to most: Mini samosas as part of the buffet Mango Lassie offered with lunch free The variety of offerings: Kabobs were bone in and not traditional tandoori Goat Curry, chicken curry, eggplant curry Naan and a pocket fried bread too All the chutneys Biryani and regular rice Chat with salad cucumber, tomatoes, crispy squares I think the dumpling (Mo Mo) we're okay but think the Asian restaurants are better. Prices were reasonable, food well flavored and service outstanding. I would definitely go again. Very nice atmosphere and servers very friendly.

The restaurant is located in the end unit of a strip mall. There's plenty of street parking right out front. The exterior is old and unglamorous, but that did not faze me. There is a lobby area and no lobby door. There's a cool wall mural to the right when you enter and a host stand to the left. My friend and I were greeted right away. On a Sunday night around 7:30 pm, we noticed that there were very few tables occupied, in an otherwise very large restaurant with lots of booths and tables, a full-service bar, and an area in the back likely for private parties. Almost all of the chicken dishes are made with dark meat but you're able to substitute for white meat if you ask. The only dish that is originally white meat is the chicken tikka masala ($12). We ordered that and the butter chicken ($13), as well as the pakora, which are deep-fried potato, cauliflower, and onion fritters ($4), and shareable order of garlic naan ($3). The total with tax and 20 percent tip came to $40. They use Square to process your credit card transactions, and if you've used Square before to transact with any merchant and have previously provided your e-mail address, you'll get an e-mailed receipt, which is convenient. We consistently received lukewarm tap water; I'm not sure why. The appetizer and entrees came out in a reasonable amount of time. Appetizer: The fritters were a large portion size for four bucks; they came with the standard sweet tamarind chutney and the spicy cilantro chutney. Entrees: The chicken dishes were both hot, fresh, delicious, and exactly as we had ordered. A small container of rice in a metal boat accompanied each chicken entree. There were a lot of onions and peppers in the chicken tikka masala dish. The butter chicken was extremely buttery, but I'm not used to that dish so that might just be the norm. The spice level was appropriate. The portion size for both entrees was smaller than what I am used to as well (I normally have leftovers but didn't this time). The dishes tasted fresh and flavorful, with enough spices and the right amount of sauce. Not too runny, watery, or oniony. Bread: The garlic naan had sesame seeds on them and looked appealing. The taste was very good! The naan portion is smaller than what I'm used to getting, but it's also on the cheaper side at three bucks. My friend and I had two palm-sized pieces each. We did not order any alcoholic or nonalcoholic beverages, but cocktails were about $7 on the menu (but at that price, likely not with premium liquors). The booth we sat in faced the side of the building and the window had lamination over it that mostly obstructed the view outside. The perimeter is lined with booths, and the center has tables and chairs set up. No tablecloth, it's not that level of fancy. The restrooms are past the bar and are gendered, spacious single rooms with (at least in the men's) modern wall decor. You'll have to use your sleeve or toilet paper to open the door handle. I would return here if I'm back in the Frederick area. I enjoyed the food very much.

I was in the area for work and was craving for some Indian food. This place came up on my search and the rating seemed reasonable, so I stopped by. As I walked in there were no one to greet me. I just stood there and then an employee came to say hello and took me inside the restaurant. I was seated and then proceeded to get my meal from the buffet area. I was walking to the right side of the buffet area and saw some plates piled up. As soon as I picked up a plate, the waitress literally startled me saying I picked up the plate from the wrong side. I was supposed to be picking up plate from the left side. I felt so unwelcome but since I was already there I just wanted to eat and leave. I was having the meal and noticed there were some mango drink, so I walked there and was trying to pour some drink. This lady again came and pretended to help me pour the drink and was saying the drink is almost over blah blah. I don't really understood her purpose of trying to help since I didn't even asked her for help and it was self serve! When it was time to check out, another lady came with the check. I was already at the bank earlier so I wanted to pay by cash and all I could give her a $100 bill. As soon as she saw the $100 she immediately was offensive and was saying they don't have change for it. The lady from the register(the one who greeted me and sat me to the table) shouted yes we do. I paid and left a decent tip. Even though the food was above average, I didn't like the way I was treated. I most likely won't be coming back.

I love Indian food so you can imagine my disappointment with the scantily filled trays. Hubby with his glass filled optimism states that it is close to the end of lunch. No excuse. The chicken kabobs were dry and old-looking. They ran out of naan or didn't have enough to restock. Salad tray was empty as was the butter chicken (mostly gravy). Won't come back.

Fresh and flavorful food.. Delhi 6 Frederick brings out authentic Indian flavors with the right amount of spice. I especially liked the goat masala, tandoori shrimp and mango mousse icecream.

Quite a surprising place…read more We didn't know Frederick offered good Indian cuisine, but once we tried this place we loved the buffet over our usual regular down closer to DC. The chicken is tender and soft. The interior is dimly lit and more soothing. The staff is attentive and plentiful. There are several people constantly walking around that can help you. The choices on the buffet has a good variety and they have name plates that tell you if it is vegetarian or not. I enjoyed my experience here and plan to come back here.

The hara bhara appetizer was a large portion and came with chana masala. The malai kofta was fresh, tasty, hot, and a good portion for the price. The paneer makhani was also a great dish with a delicious creamy sauce and also hot and fresh. Each came with a bowl of white basmati rice. We asked for spicy and medium spicy but both were fairly UN-spicy. They told me they don't have chicken tikka masala as white meat, which is how it's supposed to be prepared, and it's only available bone-in. All of their chicken dishes are dark meat, which is not the Indian way, but they're likely catering to non-South Asians who prefer thigh or leg. The service was intermittent, and our main server disappeared and never came back after taking our order. They took some time refilling water glasses or even checking in on our needs so some improvement could be had. Restaurant clientele was about 10% South Asian, 90% not. The ambiance was pleasant. Payment system is via Toast. There is patio dining.

TLDR: tired place, tired food, tired service…read more.. Favorite Oldest Grand Daughter (FOGD) was working yesterday so missed family Thanksgiving. I took her out for lunch to help make up for the missed turkey (take that any way you want, sports fans). I gave her a choice of sushi or Indian buffet; she chose Taj Mahal. Taj has been around for many years but somehow I've missed it. I heard it has a nice buffet (a decent value for $19 at lunch). When we arrived there were very few patrons so server said we had our pick of seats. We sat at a booth near the bar, near the buffet. Seats were ratty but in better shape than other booths. We grabbed plates at the bar and went for food - which was really tired and dried out even though it was was well before lunchtime ended. Server said she would bring pans of rice, butter chicken, saag, and naan so we tried what was available. Samosas were cold inside but filling was tasty; chickpeas that came with it were really good but again, cold. Onion pakoras were great, but some chutneys would have been nice. Goat curry was tasty, dry-spiced potatoes were good and had enough heat to make them interesting, but everything else was middle-of-then-road. When the fresh dishes came out we replaced out plates and tried again. Butter chicken and saag were really, really good, rice was really crunchy (undercooked) and quickly dried out under the warming lamps, and naan was good when very fresh but quickly got crunchy. We did not go back for more and skipped the salad/dessert choices. Frederick has a bunch of really good Indian (and Pakistani and Afghani) restaurants (mmmmm, Mint Room, Tulip Grill, and Mayako) so I would not put Taj Mahal anywhere the top of my list of similar places.

I've been to a LOT of these buffets and there are certain things that just must be done. The chutney/condiments shouldn't come first, they should Come at the end or at least after the apps. If You are serving various types of Indian food (North Indian/South Indian/indo-chinese), group them together. This was a total mish-mash with no coherence (curd rice doesn't go next to gulab jamun, no point in serving sambhar if there's no idli, no uttapam, no dosa to go with it). The burners weren't keeping any of the food warm enough. A non-paneer sabzi is necessary and standard but somehow, nowhere to be found. The floors should NOT be sticky. Ever. But especially 20 minutes after opening. Now moving on the food itself: Hits: - peanut chutney: glorious, delicious, wish I had actual idli or uttapam to eat it with but the fluffy and soft mysore bonda was fine too - curd rice: lovely classic flavor and texture, hit the comfort food spot - Chai: hot, flavorful from the chai masala, and again very comforting - Lassi: right combo of tangy and sweet without being milkshake-like thick Gobi Manchurian: good as a dry app, right amount of breading for the cauliflower. Misses: - veg dum biryani: I know veg biryani is hard to pull off without it turning into veg pulao but it was obvious that they just sprinkled a box of biryani masala without actually taking the time to put real flavor into the dish - sambhar: almost cold, and clearly pre-made with store bought mix and almost no veggies when we got there (again, 20-30 min after opening) - Hakka noodles: adding black pepper doesn't make it Hakka noodles. Flavor was just so sub-par. Paneer butter masala: salty but not flavorful. Just...blah. - gulab jamun: almost certainly just store bought from a can - masala idli: really, really could be crisp. This was spongy idli texture which is great for...regular idly. Masala idly should have some crunch. Also not warm enough. Totally off putting to the point that I couldn't finish. I can overlook service issues in a buffet if the food is good. I can overlook issues with food if the service is great and issues easily rectified. The thing is, there were multiple servers at the ready but they couldn't get it together enough to provide a bowl for sambhar (what are we supposed to eat it in?!?!), we had to ask for serving spoons and tongs more than once and didn't get water until the tail end of the meal. This place just isn't worth the almost $20 they want per person for a buffet. Save your money and irritation.
