We went to Grace to find an Indian restaurant with Vindaloo curry since Delhi 6 is no more. I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken vindaloo and my daughter liked the Chicken momo curry. The mango Lhasi (sp) was also very good. We will be going there again. We arrived late on a Tuesday so business was slow but the staff was attentive. All round great experience! We got seated quickly on a quiet Thursday evening for dinner. The restaurant itself is not decorated in any over the top way. It's actually pretty simple and elegant. Our party wasn't super hungry so we ordered on the lighter side but got to try the idli sambar and chicken seekh kebab. Everything was delicious and I appreciated that the chicken came with a good sized serving of rice. The chicken was well flavored and came out sizzling hot with lots of peppers and onions. About a 1-1.5: Finding Indian lunch buffets nowadays seems to be a bit difficult to find, so when we saw the high reviews of Grace of India and that they offer a daily lunch buffet, we decided to make the trip to try them out. When we arrived, they had just opened; they had almost put all the items at the buffet station. The selection seemed of a decent variety, so we were excited. Unfortunately, everything that was placed at the buffet were cold - it seemed as if they were just taken out of the fridge and placed at the stations to just come to room temperature. The only items we thought were good were the chicken kabobs (which were seasoned well and savory, albeit super dry), the mini samosas (which were super spicy), and the freshly-baked buttery naan (that was brought out to the table). The curries, the lentils, and the veggies at the buffet were all just gloopy, watered-down/thin, and bland. The mango laasi was super sour and almost tasted putrid; the 'hot' chai was not hot in the least, as it was at room temperature. Staff were friendly, but not really engaging. I guess I wasn't surprised that no other patrons came in during the entirety of our visit. This was a disappointing meal. The service was terrible, very inattentive with zero enthusiasm to seat us and no gratitude that we were even at the establishment. The chana masala was bland and under spiced. The vegetable curry looked like Campbell's beef and vegetable soup without the beef, and it was also bland and underseasoned. The vegetables neither appeared, nor tasted, fresh. The samosas were the best part of the meal. Those were very good. We have gotten take out here multiple times and have had consistent food from here every time we order. We ordered two Butter Chicken medium spice and it was delicious! I tend to get this dish from every Indian place we try- kind of the staple like Pad Thai from a Thai place. I would actually say this has been my favorite of all the places in Frederick (that I have tried) because not only was it flavorful, but the chicken was tender. Often times, the chicken takes a backseat in this dish, but this time it was tender- and shared the spotlight! The garlic naan - delightful. This was a little thinner and crispier than I have had at other places. Depends on your preference. It's a must order for me. They close for a few hours (3-5?) to transition from lunch to dinner service and we showed up at 2:20. The owner let us know and got us in and out with almost fifteen minutes to spare! I would not order the mulligatawny soup again. The only dish that was a little bland. Then again, I have only eaten this a few times - no expert opinion here. We ordered Paneer Tikka for an appetizer and I enjoyed the Mulligatawny soup (best I've ever had!). My husband and I finally had time to try Grace of India this evening. The location is on the edge of a shopping center with ample parking. The interior is well lit and decorated thoughtfully. We were greeted and seated promptly, and our request for a more spacious table was easily accommodated as we were the first dinner time customers of the evening. We were presented with a carafe of water, the three sauces and papadum as well as their menus. The waiters utilized an iPad ordering system. We skipped appetizers and ordered 3 "authentic or not?" Entrees. First up was the vegetable kadai-a bountiful variety of veggies in a smoky, rich gravy. Next was the tandoori shrimp served on a sizzling platter of onions topped with a raw carrot slice and lemon quarter-a show stopper for sure! We requested it spicy and my nose ran, so, fantastic! Lastly was the butter chicken is our end all be all judge it an Indian spot. It. Was. Lovely! While all of our foods were well prepared and tasty, the service was kinda of lackluster. Once our dishes were delivered no one returned to fill our waters or ask if we needed anything. We tried the napkin in the plate trick but ultimately it took staring at our server to get his attention. Payment is done table side with a credit card reader that immediately prompts for a tip. Food portions have decreased since I first ate at this restaurant. Moreover, I was horrified that my friend who joined me there was asked for her ID before being served a beer. First time for Indian food and I came to the right place. We ordered for carry out and the food travelled just fine. We ordered the tandoori chicken, chicken vindaloo and garlic naan bread. The tandoori chicken had good flavor from the grill and the onions complimented the subtle spice of the chicken. The vindaloo was spicy and very very good. I am a big fan of spicy food and enjoyed the heat very much. The vindaloo had a lot of heat but there was great flavor from the rest of the dish. Great spot outside of Frederick, just a 10 min drive off the highway. It's located in a quiet and beautiful square adjacent to the library. Lots of cute shops and residential living around. I went relatively early for dinner around 530pm so restaurant was completely empty. Obviously, my group was seated right away. Service was great, server made sure the chef knew of nut allergies one in our group had. She also gave us ample time to figure out what to order and importantly, gave us space. She would check with us frequently, refilling water if needed. Group ordered north Indian dishes and appetizers. All came out timely and tasted great. I had Samosa Chaat to begin, then our main enteees were Paneer Tikka Masala, Baingan Bharta, and Malai Kofta w/ Butter Naan and a few rounds of Mango Lassi' (who doesn't love a round?!). Unfortunately that day, the small dosa selection on the menu was not available, I wanted to try it, but the restaurant is known for north Indian dishes anyways. All 3 dishes were good, satisfying, but mediocre. My Indian tastebuds could tell something was missing whether it was some masalas or salt, I'm not sure but it was good experience overall. We must have been one of the first customers for dinner service, so for being located in a small town, I guess they weren't expecting customers that early. All in all, it's a nice and cozy place. Ordered from here expecting average Indian takeout but was surprised by some very above average food. We ordered: idli and medhu vada (apps), eggplant in a Peanut based curry and navratan korma (mains), tandoori roti and garlic naan. Idli and vada come with solid coconut and tomato chutneys. Soft idli, crisp vada, and tangy hot sambhar with fresh veggies. Can't ask for more. Could use some more eggplant to even out the eggplant to gravy ratio in the curry but that curry flavor is excellent -- if you love eggplant but want a different Indian preparation than baingan bharta this is it for sure. Navratan korma is creamy with a nice kick of spice at the end and totally filled to the brim with veggies which I loved. It's one of those basic dishes that I insist Indian places get right and they did. The roti and naan were average, nothing to brag about and rather more chewy than soft/pillowy (especially the naan). Stick to the rice the entrees come with and you'll be fine. Can't speak to the non-veg options since we only ordered veg but they do a pretty good job overall with the veg so I would happily order from them again. read more

Tried Grace of India after looking for a lunch spot being new to the area and wow. So far the Aloo Gobhi(Spicy), Chana Masala(Spicy), and Veggie Vindaloo were excellent. I love my food very spicy but with flavor and they do it right here. Heat was perfect, spices and flavors were great, each bite kept me wanting the next. Also the naan is excellent. I have ordered the Tandoor Naan without butter, and it is excellent. Not overdone and not too doughy but right in the middle. Service is also great for lunch, put the order in and arrive 15 minutes ish and food is waiting for you fresh off of the stove and very hot! read more

Stopped in for a solo lunch while I was in the area. Restaurant was sparsely populated, but not unusual these days. They were also doing a brisk takeout business. I settled on the Chicken Biryani (spicy!) after assurances that there was no wheat anywhere in their sauces. my meal was excellent! Rice was fluffy, chicken was dark meat and fell apart on the fork. Heat level was just right for spicy- you are going to feel it, but it's not insulting. Portions were very generous- as you can see I ate about half and I'm still going to take enough home for dinner. Ok I've gotta join in on the train if love for this wonderful restaurant. I'm very picky about what is a good solace to get Indian food. I'm spoilt as I come from a town that has the best Indian food in the UK. I've eaten at five star rated restaurants. From southern Indian to Kashmiri and everything in between. I've also grown accustomed to the wonderful cooking of Raj at the Mango Grill in Hagerstown. Thus for an Indian to gain five stars from me means it must be something special, and this place is very special! From the friendly greetings on the phone when you place your order, to the advice that a dish is very creamy, to the friendliness in the restaurant itself. I'm not used to such wonderful service and friendliness no matter how good the food actually is. But the food... oh my god the food. First of all the naan. It's very easy to let it go crispy as it's slapped against the side of a tandor oven. So when it's soft throughout but not under cooked is a sign of great care by the chefs. This is some of the best fresh naan I've tasted. The fish I ordered for myself (paneer pasanda) was great in portion and taste. The creaminess gave way gently to the heat of the spices. It wasn't short of paneer either. It was a dish that I had never tried before, but I'm sure to again. The wife had momos, which were again perfect in execution and taste. The portion size allowed another meal to made out if them. Also the chicken tikka masala. Perfection. I'm more than happy, heck bloody ecstatic to gave this wonderful place a mere mile away from me. In terms of diverse food options, Urbana has limited options. This new restaurant is a great addition to the area. I tried Indian for the first time last year and fell in love with the flavors and dish options. I decided to drag my family here, and as first time Indian restaurant goers they were a bit hesitant. For a weekend night it wasn't very busy, so we were able to receive great, friendly service. It was very clean and quiet, and the decor and ambiance was classy--a perfect date night spot! I took charge in terms of ordering food and went with: tandoori chicken, butter chicken, and lamb curry. We also ordered some sides of rice, naan, and samosas. Everything was absolutely delicious--though the butter chicken was by far my favorite dish. We ate communally, sharing dishes and sides together, which I highly recommend! We were extremely happy with the food quality, service, price range, and atmosphere. The night ended on a high note when the manager brought us out complimentary rice pudding.
