My review comes with an embarrassing admission: For the better part of a year I've lived within half a mile of a divine Jewish deli -- and today was the first day I visited. But not the last! Legitimately tucked away from Delmar Blvd, Deli Divine can be difficult to find (if you don't know where to look and also because there isn't a shop sign). But you will be rewarded upon your discovery! Fresh foods! Hard to find specialty foods! Real sour pickles! Flavorful sandwiches! 'Tis the season for root vegetables, so we each tried the beets and didn't let them drop. Amazing and fresh and gorgeous, I have zero complaints about our beet salad and sandwich (the Herta Peltzman). Pickles, beets, red cabbage, Swiss cheese. What's not to love?! Wow, we are so glad we discovered this spot for bagels and schmear! We first tried Deli Divine out on Too Good To Go (an app which lets restaurants sell their excess foods for a discounted rate) twice and have loved both orders. The first came with a pack of mixed bagels and a giant (GIANT) tub of dill schmear. The second order came with a small tub of salmon salad, a medium tub of split pea soup, and a pack of mixed bagels. We were generally happy with both orders: Bagels: love that these taste so robust and fresh, even though we know these were excess product and potentially day-old. I also appreciate that their bagels with onion/garlic are not A) overpowering or B) burnt, both common issues we have found at other bagel shops. Schmear: Well made, but few flavors available. They have plain, onion, dill, tzatziki, and strawberry from memory. They may have one or two more that we are forgetting. Salmon salad: delicious and absolutely would pick up again! Split pea soup: Our one true miss. This was watery and the flavors were weak. Would not order or ask for in a bag again. The shop/restaurant itself is so cute and a great spot to grab lunch with friends. We're so excited to come back with friends when they visit and we have more time for a sit-down meal. The major downside here is parking! The lot is small and, while there is lots of street parking, the whole area fills up with parked cars for healthcare and other services operating in the attached building. The chocolate chip cookie and footling are a solid lunch choice. I love all the veggies (pickle and sauerkraut) on the dog. Love the low key atmosphere and it was ready quickly. I know. I'm late getting here considering there's bagels involved. Had brunch with a friend on a recent Sunday. I ordered a pumpernickel bagel with onion cream cheese, lox, and red onion. I thought the lox was good but sparse. The cream cheese was plain (when I ordered onion) and too thin and the bagel was potentially freezer burnt. My brunch date ordered a bagel with vegan cream cheese. The employees and the vibe in here was surly. Whoever designed the space and curated what's in here gets it and did a phenomenal job. I'll go back if someone makes me otherwise I'll reserve this kind of food for when I'm traveling somewhere that does it right. read more

I had high hopes for this deli. Having lived with the great Jewish delis in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area, deli food had always been my favorite. But Deli Devine was disappointing. Service was friendly, if a touch slow, given the almost-empty store. They seem to be aiming for takeaway, rather than dine-in service, having only four small booths and three two person tables. My meal was delivered on butcher paper on a plastic tray, rather than a plate. None of this would have mattered had the food been great ... which it was not. There's an old deli joke about a customer complaining that "the food was terrible" and "the portions were too small". But my feelings are along that line. The pastrami in my Pastrami Reuben (aka Rachel sandwich) was under-seasoned, bland, as well as dry because it was too lean. It also was probably overcooked (see photo). That said, the amount of pastrami in the sandwich was simply too small - it needn't be a "mile high" sandwich, but it was simply underwhelming, and did not stand up to the sauerkraut; the balance was off. I was overjoyed to see that they had half-sour pickles, my favorites - but the pickle was terrible, too sour to even eat, with a slightly metallic hint. (The regular pickle was adequate.) No knishes, no deli fries, just bags of chips. A full selection of Dr Browns sodas (and others) was fine. They had an array of other deli foods, which I didn't sample. My first time at any particular deli, my baseline is set by a pastrami sandwich ... and Deli Delight didn't make the mark. Overall, the food was at best NYC bodega quality - passable if you're in a rush for food to go ... but not deli-worthy. I really can't recommend it based on my lunch today. This is my first time going to Deli Divine. I purchased a Surprise Bag through Too Good to Go. My bag contained Isreali bruschetta charred tomatoes, beef sticks and chocolate cake. The restaurant was clean, welcoming and full of goodies. The staff were friendly and told me the best way to use the charred tomatoes. The chocolate cake was divine. My son enjoyed the beef sticks. Been here on a semi-regular basis since it started. I was a HUGE fan at first. It's only dissipated slightly. I still love the reuben. I like that there's not too much corned beef, compared to other places. The Russian dressing and the horse radish are perfect. The beet reuben is also excellent. Other stuff: the cakes (and I tried most of them) sometimes seem a little tired. Could you not slice to order? The soups might be more exciting if served in a proper bowl. They ain't what they should be, and I'm not sure why. A little pricey. The bagel situation, I think, is a question mark. I adored them at first, because I'd been bagel-starved for too long. They're not fresh and chewy on a consistent basis. I've concluded they'd be better served by using Bagel Union bagels or maybe that place out west on Delmar. The lox is excellent - or was the last time I had it. Coffee is classic deli coffee - barely ok. Anyone who complains about parking is a whiner. I've been here maybe two dozen times and never had to walk more than a couple blocks. Deal with it, people! read more

This is a sweet Jewish deli I would have never found if a friend hadn't told me about it! She said they had a little of everything, and that it was in a super cool neighborhood, the CWE. The parking lot is not big, but it has plenty of handicapped parking right in front, and the deli is accessible with no steps. There are tables outside to enjoy your food, and inside there are booths. You can order at the counter right as you come in, or you can wander to the back to check out the little grocery area. I had fun looking at the books available, and the pictures on the walls. There are lots of random cans and jars of condiments available. I found a can of sun dried tomatoes in oil, jars of Capers, pickles, and fig spread with balsamic vinegar. It all sounded amazing! As for the food - i got some dilly tuna salad, some sweet rolls, and a jar of key lime pie. The people behind the counter said that they are known for their bagels with lox, tomatoes, and dilly cream cheese. I will be back to try that soon! One of my coworkers recommend checking out Deli Divine for lunch one day. The Deli is a bit of a throwback restaurant that is the brainchild of Ben Poremba's Bengelina Hospitality Group (e.g. Elaia and Olio). The same care that they put into their other restaurants is on display here. The space is split between a small market in the back and a deli up front. The Deli is along the lines of a NYC Jewish Deli and features a nice selection of bagels and lunch meat. I got a hot pastrami sandwich which was fantastic. The rest of our group got a mixture of sandwiches and bagels with spreads. The portions were very good and I really enjoyed the meal. We got a selection of baked goods for desert which I also have zero complaints about. Overall the quality of the food was outstanding and it was clear this restaurant was a labor of love. One thing to note, we were a bit lost when trying to find the restaurant. It is hard to see from Delmar. It is tucked into the The Residences at Delmar DivINe complex. At first I thought the building was a retirement community, but it looks to just be some recently renovated apartments. So just make sure you plan ahead and don't miss the turn off into the parking lot. read more

I'm not sure how I haven't reviewed Deli Divine, but I've been a few times for bagels and corned beef, depending on the time of day, and Deli Divine has never disappointed. If you can't find parking in the tiny lot, there's street parking around the back. I have never found lines to be a problem in the late morning. Food: 3 Stars Service: 4 Stars A little ways from the main hustle bustle in U. City, this little deli and provisions store is worth checking out at least once. Just beware of the tiny parking lot- there's a good chance you'll need to park along the side of the road. We didn't dine in, but opted to purchase a handful of good from the deli and then wandered towards the back where we spent way too much time and money on various provisions. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful! We had a great time chatting up a storm and learning where everything came from. Definitely get yourself some marcona almonds. They have several flavors and we walked away buying scoops of everything. Our favorites were the salted herb and citrus ginger. You also have to check out their huge cakes of halva. Sample the various flavors and be sure to take home some. I have yet to find halva as fresh as this anywhere in St. Louis. Well, I'll begin with it was my first time visiting - and for sure will be my absolute last. I saw the renovations that the corner of Belt and Delmar made to the neighborhood and since I was in the area and wanted to stop by to check it out for myself, I figured why not. I parked in the side lot - which I lucked out because there's only a few spots or you'll have to opt for street parking. I did notice a covered parking lot, but from the look of the people walking out towards the building look as if they were going to work - so I didn't attempt to park there. Once I entered Deli Divine there's a cool sign that had a quote saying something along the line of: an intelligent man hires someone better than him ... the signage was pretty cool. So I grabbed a menu and took a look to see what they had to offer and it was lovely if you enjoy bagels - which I do, but it saddened me to not see a single vegan option... there were side dishes like coleslaw without mayo ... With that being said, I put the menu back and decided to walk towards the back of the establishment where it connects to their market. It was pretty small and had items that were from the menu that you could purchase. I did see an assortment of candied pecans and other nut options - chocolate covered pretzels and items similar to that. They were in sealed white/clear plastic tubs and sold by the pound. There was also other speciality chocolate candy bars and packaged coffee, but not what I was looking for - but was willing to get this white chocolate/strawberry candy bar because I wanted to support the establishment .... But what bothered me the most was as small as this inside of the business was / diner included, when I entered there was two employees / three in the market and not a single person gave me a greeting. Not Hello, Good Afternoon, are you finding everything ok - nothing. I felt far from welcomed. I wasn't going to stay where I wasn't welcomed so after reading the white chocolate strawberry candy bar, I couldn't find it within myself to justify their reasoning on the fact that maybe they were busy / didn't notice me ... I was finding myself giving an excuse on why ... I'm barely in town and love to try new places, but the "service" that I got from Deli Divine was a waste of my time and showed me that I don't ever have a reason to visit again. I hate to write a 1-Star Review but when patrons choose to support businesses - at least give them a simple hello and make them feel welcomed. read more

I am a really big fan of Ben Poremba's food, but something about our visit on this specific day wasn't good at all. First of all, the entire parking lot was full but there were no customers inside and it was a Saturday so I'm not sure who is parked right out front. I was really excited to finally come try this and we were warmly greeted by someone at the front, but she also proceeded to follow us around. We ordered our food and it's quite expensive, but this was a special Saturday treat. We decided to look at the market in the back where the person was consistently 2 steps behind us. It felt really uncomfortable. We had been there for awhile and only my husband got a bagel, so we didn't know what was taking so long. We went to the front and waited by the pick up counter and we think the didn't start preparing our food until then. I got a side of egg salad and potato salad and both were weirdly sweet. I've had the egg salad at Olio and don't ever remember it being so sweet. My husband got a bagel with lox and the lox were the best part. My coworkers and I got lunch to-go on a Friday. They were busy but not packed. We had a hard time finding the entrance at first since it's around the side of delmar divine. I got the marble bagel with dill schmear and lox. It was delicious but a tad too oily (I assume from the lox). The portion was huge and definitely a good value for the price of ~$13. I also got the chocolate babka and it was just ok, too much chocolate for me personally. Their market is super cute but pricey. I didn't get anything but browsed around. Attended the soft opening and met John who was absolutely lovely to me and showed me the gourmet market area on the back and how to order the food up front. I grew up in Los Angeles eating Brent's, Art's, Langers and most recently Wexlers, and I love it. I've been feeling a bit sad I can't get decent Jewish Deli in Saint Louis. I ordered an everything bagel with dill schmear, shaved red onion and thinly sliced tomato. A nice bit of fresh dill was added to the bagel. This was the best bagel I've had in years. It was big, and the outside had a nice crust while the inside had perfect chew. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients and it was truly a moment for me. I also tried the corned beef Reuben. I admit I'm used to a bigger sandwich and more thickly sliced corned beef. The sandwich was thin and I cant remember what cheese was supposed to be on it, but it tasted like provel and I was a bit surprised. It ended up being mushy and wasn't toasted enough to withstand the sauce, the soft cheese and the sauerkraut. I also tried the beef barley soup. I'm also used to it being a bit thicker but it had a lovely smokey flavor from the brisket in it. Extremely tasty. I got a Dr. Brown's cream soda as well. Smokes and canned fish lovers this is your spot!!! They have so much variety! I loved my whole experience here. I think if you recognize going into it that the products are specialty and not the same as going to Panera you will understand the pricing. I had the best salmon pastrami and egg salad bagel per the recommendation of the staff. Every part of the store I stopped a staff member was there to explain everything and the products which was so great. In the back of the deli there is a market which has a ton of ready to go deli items, and specialty items like nuts by the pound, baked goods, etc. There was plenty of seating inside and out and an overall cheery atmosphere. The bagel and lox is different and, although they say it's new York style, it's not like what I've gotten at legit delis in New York. In addition, I asked for my bagel sandwich to be open faced. As a resident of the nearby Delmar Divine apartments, I was excited to see a locally owned deli opening in the neighborhood and to find that their food is excellent. I especially enjoyed their desserts, with their cake slices being freshly baked and large in portion enough for two to share. I additionally appreciated their hospitality. When I visited recently to purchase a chocolate babka, they threw in a coffee cake for free. My hope is that St. Louis residents continue to patron this wonderful deli. read more

However, the price, service, and waiting area need work. There are two convoluted lines without direction, one line blocks all condiments, napkins, etc. Service is just fine. The price is very tough to justify visiting more than once in a very long while. The open face bagels are an okay deal, especially given the number of ingredients. However, the price for sandwiches (Turkey Pastrami) is abhorrent. 4oz of meat and inexpensive rye bread for $15.75 before tax is unjustifiable. Deli Divine is tucked into the first floor of a larger building. It's a little hard to spot but don't give up! The parking lot occasionally fills up but there's a free lot right across the street. This review is for the back section of the deli, the market. The interior of the entire place is welcoming and classic. I have interacted with staff a few times and they have all been kind, informative and generous with samples. I tried my first halvah here. I had never heard of it and never had it. Turns out I love it. Their's is delicious and the flavors change. I usually just get 2 ounces and nosh on it but it would be great on top of yogurt. They have a bunch of fun foodie items for cooking with and a large cooler of food filled with things from the other associated restaurants. They also carry Russel's cake- best in the city imho. I've picked up the olio egg salad, cream cheese (get the dill), tuna, pickles, and bagels(very good). All have been fresh and delicious. I love a good deli and I love great service. While at Deli Divine a few days ago, being a food enthusiast, I always attempt to find something positive in my experiences. I must admit, the pastrami I ordered was quite delicious. Although, for a bakery item, a pastrami sandwich, and a water, my bill for lunch was over $26, which is relatively expensive when compared to other delis. While the quality of the food was decent, it was not worth $26. Perhaps, this kind of place would be better suited for an upscale location such as Clayton, Ladue, or Frontenac. I'd DEFINITELY buy that for myself next time. I LOVED the outdoor seating they offered in front as well as the middle area although we didn't stay. Ok, this place definitely slaps. It's hidden away and there's no way I would have known about it if my coworkers didn't bring me. It has both street parking and a small lot. The interior is small, and you order at the counter. There is some seating through the small grocery and outside. All of our dishes were incredible. The pastrami sandwich and pastry, the roast beef sandwich, and the salmon bagel - everyone was hella impressed. The price point for what you get was a little much though. There were 4 of us trying for the first time. We all agreed on the following: 5 stars for the atmosphere and decor and the service. 3 stars for the quality of the food. 2 stars for the value of food to perceived value. The pea soup had some uncooked pieces, just warm and just ok. The egg salad (their famous), was pretty good )my wife makes it better). I had the Herta veggie sandwich. It was tasty, but not enough or big enough. They need bigger bread to look like you are getting more. I had the kasha knish. After we noticed how little amount of kasha it had I showed the staff. They agreed there should be more. I was given another knish. It was exactly the same, mostly bread and little kasha. So, I won't do that again as it was disappointing. The cabbage slaw was really good and we were given samples of things and most were good. The bottle line is we have 3 stars as we wish them well, but really 2.5 stars may fit our experience. The desserts looked wonderful, but I felt that as the food was both good and not so great, the desserts might follow suit. We also were surprised that they are just sitting out for everybody to come and breath on without a cover. As we left, we walked through the market. We feel it may have been better to have people walk through the market both in and out. Or, better for sales. I'm sure it was considered that way... We will be back one day and try the kugel and maybe a dessert. We hope they do well as STL really needs another deli. The creativity of the place IS appreciated! read more

As a native New Yorker, I'm so glad to see a new Jewish Deli come to STL. Very friendly staff. I really enjoyed the potato knish and the whitefish salad was delicious. Pastrami on rye was freshly sliced and very good quality. My suggestion to the owner would be to add creamy coleslaw to the menu, as a true NYC deli always has this as an add-on for sandwiches/hotdogs and the sauerkraut offered was just not the same. read more

But, the sandwiches, soups, braided chocolate bread, noodle kugels (Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, depending on the day), homemade cheesecake, all melt in your mouth.
