I would never tell Ben how to make a deli nor create a wonderful deli space, however I am a world class deli traveler, from Katz's in NYC to Langers in LA and DZ Atkins in San Diego. My first impression is, it's hard to find and in an odd area. The old saying is "Build and they will come" must be what Ben and his team were thinking. The location is puzzling. You walk in the door and are immediately hit with nostalgia of the deli's in the city's a long time ago. Decore is great. Signage is bright and easy to read and the staff is very friendly. I ordered a Pastrami sandwich and a Knish to go. The sandwich was smaller than I thought for the price and the meat was not the freshest. It had already started to turn color, like when a deli cut has been out too long. Taste was a bit dry and not what I expected. The knish was a bigger disappointment then the sandwich. I have had knishes from coast to coast, from my mother and grandmother and I have never had a knish made from Chalah dough. It was in fact a Challah roll stuffed with Kasha. Mind you very little Kasha in fact. Before leaving we toured the back area with the Halah table and almonds and tried some. The Halah was divine. Reminded me of the shook in Jerusalem. The place and ambiance, especially with the market, look super cool. I got a bagel sandwich with tomato, onion, dill schmear, and the basic lox. Bummed about the price though - nearly $15 for a sandwich that I can make at home with Trader Joe's ingredients. The redeeming part is definitely the bagel though, I'd recommend trying either their marble or the everything bagel. One of the servers was quite passive aggressive when I forgot to pick up my order though. But everyone else's kindness more than made up for that. Overall it was a good but not great spot. I'll probably visit again if i'm craving a bagel sandwich. If they lowered everything by about $2-3 it would be an easy recommendation, but they're new in town and have to get the ball rolling somehow. read more

Classic Jewish deli with store attached. Delicious food. We had a bagel topped with dill cream cheese, onions tomato's and capers and a smoked turkey sandwich. Both were delicious! The staff created an experience by explaining the menu options as well as merchandise in the store. A friendly man delivered food to the table and was having conversations with the customers. Stopped in for to go bagel "sandwiches" - sandwich is a misnomer as they are served open faced. After selecting our combos, we salivated over the grab and go bakery selection and wandered in the market. The vibe is like a vintage diner. The woman behind the counter was super friendly. Everything on their menu sounds delicious, so we want to come back and try some additional offerings. I wish they would have given us a heads up the bagels are toasted - I would have preferred not because (1) we were taking for a brunch on our bike ride and (2) I kind of think of Jewish deli bagel sandwiches coming on fresh bagels. We were gifted a slice of kugel when we discovered the lox had been left off one of the bagel sandwiches. Given we were the only customers in there and the wait was like 10 min for 4 bagels, I can't imagine what it gets like when it's busy... keep that in mind if you're going during the lunch rush. My husband travels to New York quite a bit and has a specific place to get a white fish sandwich, never has found another one even close to it outside of New York. Well, that all changed today when we went to the Deli Devine for lunch. He loved it! We also ordered a corned beef knish that was the best in St Louis! Now comes to my sandwich. I had my husband surprise me with whatever thinking we would share it. Now keep in mind, I am very picky when it comes to chicken salad. So much so that I usually only eat Straubs. Well, I have to say, I liked there's better. It's similar, however, they had a tad more flavor that put it over the top! We both felt that the Deli Devine was as close to New York as you can get! I hate writing bad reviews, and in fact, I rarely ever do it. Who cares, right? Just go eat somewhere else. And frankly, it isn't nice and I'm a nice person. But, after having worked in the restaurant business for a long time and being a home cook myself, I want to write this in the hopes that the owners see it and make some much needed adjustments, and that folks in the neighborhood see it too before they go. My brother and I were excited. I've been craving a great Jewish deli in the area. We got 2 small sandwiches, a soda, and a bag of chips and it was $33.00. Honestly. I would've walked out before placing the order, but I was too embarrassed and I wanted to give back to the community. I know how hard it is to open a restaurant, but who can afford that?? For a casual lunch?? The prices were astronomical across the board, and the quality was reflective of a sandwich I might get at a lesser chain. The meat was OK and not overly fatty, but still not out of this world. We got the nosher size pastrami, and then a fresser reuben. The Reuben sandwich was OK, but it was pretty greasy. I thought the pastrami lacked the flavor it needs to carry a sandwich. The portions were pretty small, and the bread was only so so and lacked gravitas. I didn't try the bagels and was planning on coming back a different day to do so, but I dont think I will. I paused for a long time as I read the menu at the counter because I was deliberating if I could even afford to treat my brother to this lunch. When I didn't order right away, the woman behind the counter became impatient and made me feel pressured and embarrassed. There was no line and no one waiting behind me. It was honestly pretty uncomfortable. I can tell they are still trying to figure stuff out, and that they are working on the décor, etc. Maybe they had to make the prices high since they just opened. And the man at the door truly seemed like a kind and lovely person. I wish I was leaving a better review. But I feel like it is unfair to them to do so. In the spirit of what a Jewish deli does, this felt the opposite. I felt unwelcomed in some way. I hope they make changes and work on the prices, because this could be an amazing addition to the neighborhood. We can build so much through food, delis, and atmosphere. Two New Yorkers walk into a room-- actually a deli in St. Louis of all places!-- and are blown away by what they find: better bagels and lox with a schmear than NYC's Murray's, pastrami on rye to rival Katz's, knishes and kugel even your Bubbi would approve. Served up by the friendliest staff in the city, the deli has a store attached with the best cardamom halavah that my Bronx-born-and-raised wife ever had, and an assortment of Israeli as well as other imported products to choose from-- plus Dr. Brown's soda! If you're in St. Louis and are tired of white bread and way too much mayonnaise on your sandwiches, this is the place to go! And, as the old Levy's rye bread commercial said, you don't have to be Jewish to love Deli Divine! read more

Nailed it. Interesting location, love the greeter and decor, and counter folks were awesome. Only did a bagel and ended up leaving with 1/2 dozen, lox, tuna, knish, and pastrami. Ordering at bagel counter was a bit slow with folks getting more than bagels but love that the employees didn't seemed bothered by it. Just relax and enjoy the place. Dig the old blue and white bakeware. Reminded me of my parents' kitchen. Hard working cookware for hard working families. Only warning is that it's not cheap. But good food isn't cheap and it was worth the price. read more

If you're up for a kind of expensive bagel then this is your spot! When I walked out I was like eek I hope it's good cause it was $15 granted it's lox and that is how it is, but I have to say it was much better than the other expensive bagel place I went to. When I ate the bagel I thought yes, this is good. The reason was the lox was not ice cold. The bagel was also one of the better ones I've had around town. The coffee I would skip the next time - it's Kirkland brand batch made. There is a shop next door that was cute and had to go stuff. I was worried it was going to be crowded - it was not on a Friday morning. And beyond that there were lots of seats in a courtyard. So when I went I was a little confused about open faced versus not. Long story short I feel like they could drop a dollar or two from the price and make the open faced into sandwiches with less cream cheese and fish/additions at a slightly lower price that would make me go back more often. read more

We went here for lunch and we were looking sooo forward to it but it did not hit the mark for us. There were positives but the negatives were too much to let go. Positive 1- cute place, a bit hard to find, a market attached. 2 - - great Jewish rye and pickles. Negatives 1- ordered chicken soup which was warm at best when delivered and quite frankly bland and the chicken was dry. 2- we ordered a corned beef fresser and a tongue fresser and neither came out warm. We assumed I guess at ordering that it would so never thought to ask for warm, which was so disappointing especially since it was rainy out and we were looking for a cozy soup and sandwich experience. The tongue was sliced a bit thick but the taste was good as was the corned beef, but the staff needs to ask if you want it cold or warm or put it on the menu as an option. They have some delightful looking desserts, knishes and a bialy that looked real good but we didn't try any. The staff was lovely, and the market was cute. I bought some rice from Chahokia Il which I didn't know existed so that was fun! Overall I would give it another try but will be asking for warm next time. read more

Four of us drove there from Edwardsville and it was worth the trip. As someone else just wrote, it's a bit tricky to find but "don't give up"! I had a (warmed) corned beef knish with gravy and it was really delicious. We also shopped in the market. Lots of interesting and enticing items. We'll definitely be back! read more

I had high hopes about his place. Unfortunately, they were misplaced. The lox bagels that my wife and I ordered took 20 minutes to be prepared, even though the restaurant was pretty empty. The whole sandwich/bagel prep area seems too small and poorly arranged. The bagels themselves were tough - maybe they don't make fresh bagels on Sunday; and the presentation was weird - one half had lox and cream cheese, the other had onions and cream cheese - making it hard to eat (put lox on both sides, even if you need to charge a bit more). Coffee was some of the weakest coffee I've ever been served. Also had the knish, which was ok, but served cold. My wife had a piece of gooey butter cake, which she said was tasteless. This restaurant has a cute concept. There is a store attached to the small restaurant in the back. The store sells some refrigerated food items, cute Jewish & Yiddish themed items, and a variety of gifts. We had lunch at Deli Devine. The corned beef sandwich was on the small side, fatty, and the rye bread was soft, with no chewy crust. The bagel, lox & cream cheese was fair. The bagel wasn't anything special, the lox was plentiful but the cream cheese schmear was hardly enough to see or taste. Bottom line, this was disappointing because this city could use a GOOD, Jewish style deli, which we expected this to be, but NO.
