A cute small deli just a couple blocks from Manchester and I pass several times a week. Finally…read morestopped...I'll definitely return soon and often! First, I love that this is a locally family owned and run Busines. We tried the Zach and the Meatball sandwich. The Zach was packed with turkey, cheese and pesto. The Meatball sandwich is honestly one of the Top 10 Meatball sandwiches in STL! It truly highlights the famous Vitale Sauce/Gravy recipe! One bit and you can feel the love and the time and effort it takes to simmer all day. Definitely will return soon!!

One Saturday I took my kids to Kirkwood park and decided to stop in at Vitale's on the way home. I'm so glad that I did! The shop isn't anything fancy, there is a counter inside and then a handful of tables outside. It is primarily a to go joint which is pretty standard for delis. It gives off the vibe that you should just stroll up from the neighborhood and grab something to eat, chat for a while with other locals, and then head home. It has a nice, no frills vibe that I really enjoyed. The sandwiches are pretty typical for an Italian Deli with most of them featuring variations of lunchmeat. I'm always a sucker for meatball sandwiches though so that is what I got with a side of chips. It was outstanding. The meatballs were GIANT and they were the right texture. It was large enough that I had to split it across two meals. The owner was really nice when I was inside and talked to both of my kids. My kids were so well behaved they convinced me to buy them a cannoli on the way out the door. Over this shop fills its niche well, the shop was clean, the staff was friendly, and the food was good. I'll be stopping back in again in the near future.

Literally one of my fave spots in St. Louis. I first started going because there was a sign out…read morefront that said "best gyros" and of course I had to try it! I will say the gyro is fantastic and they don't skip out on the veggies and sauce. It all comes on a pita which I don't really prefer for a gyro. I think a naan that is a bit thicker would be a perfect fit for this gyro. Besides that, I really like the reuben too. It's stacked high and comes with a nice toasted marble rye (I love a marbled rye!). Recently, I have been getting the gyro salad and I just love that there is a mountain of veggies AND a good amount of the gyro meat. The folks working there are always kind, the food is consistent and they are fast and clean.

I haven't had any of their other sandwiches but I've had their gyro a few times over the years and I like it a lot. I remember the Riverfront Times article years ago saying how it's the best gyro in town as well so I had to try it back then and I think it was a little better years ago than it is today however it's still a good deal price wise with the gyro being pretty filling with a drink and bag of chips. Just know it is a takeout place only since there's nowhere to sit and eat inside and so its good for a picnic in the car or nearby park if you're hungry and can't wait until your all the way home and want to eat it right away. The service is okay, never had any problems. The deli shop itself is clean but basic.

Finding a good spot for sandwiches is hard especially since my husband is a former "sandwich…read moreartist" from his college days, lol. But after an intense Costco trip, we were wanting a hearty sandwich. They are located in a strip mall, where they are many other busy businesses so parking can be a little tough. But going in, they were packed! Tip to tail, it was just people trying to get their food. And, that was us waiting a while to come in to pick up our goods. So, absolutely order ahead because it will make it somewhat easier. We ordered: The JD Cold Shoulder - cold cuts on a garlic roll with chipotle ranch. My husband loved his, and glad he ordered it with the garlic roll. Joe's Spicy Italian - this was spicy and sweet, and it really hits when you love a good spicy italian sandwich. You can choose your bread, and I opted for mine to be on a French roll. Great sandwiches, long wait, but just really good and worth the wait!

Since they close shortly after lunch, I'd highly recommend ordering ahead if you can. The sandwich was enormous....easily enough for two meals for some people and loaded with fresh ingredients. Every bite was flavorful and satisfying. At $20, the value was definitely there considering the quality and portion size. One of the best deli sandwiches I've had in a long time
