Deliciousness - 5/5 Happiness - 4/5 Generations of my family have been going here and I am happy to keep the tradition going. This was my introduction to mile-high deli sandwiches and is still the standard by which I judge all other deli. The meats are bursting with flavor, the rye bread is nice and soft, yet still sturdy enough to withstand all the meat, Russian dressing or other toppings, put on the sandwich. The soups are very good too (which this time of year, is a must order). I recommend ordering a sandwich "sloppy." That comes with cole slaw slathered on the sandwich and it really is tasty (and I don't typically like cole slaw at all). The price is outrageously high, but the food is worth it. I'm always grumpy paying the bill but as soon as I eat, I am immediately ready to return. My mom and step-dad even insisted we bring them back $150 worth of Deli King to them in Virginia. If that's not the highest praise a restaurant can get, I don't know what is! read more

This is simply the best especially when weighing price vs quality. I travel from Marlboro just for the corned beef and pastrami. It is a long round trip, but when I am in the mood for the best, there is nothing better in Monmouth county. All meat is expensive and Kosher meats are even more expensive. The pastrami sandwich was very good but expensive for the size. It cost $18.95 for just the sandwich. I asked the owner, who didn't seem too friendly, how much the matza ball soup was. He told me a small was $5 and a large was $10. So I ordered a small. When I got my receipt, it came out to $28.23. I was shocked at how much money that was for a small sandwich and soup. When I checked my receipt, it said $5 for the soup and $1.50 for one matza. I asked the owner why I was charged extra for one matza when I ordered matza ball soup. He said one matza cost $1.50. That's ridiculous! When you order matza ball soup, you should not be charged extra for the matza. He should just say the matza ball soup costs $6.50 instead of $5. The matza was so small, and the soup broth wasn't even that great. I've had much better matza ball soup at a diner. This was my first time there, and it will definitely be my last. I was shocked to see some less than 5 star reviews. Deli King has always maintained the highest standards for taste, quality and service. So if by chance they made an error and gave me a sour pickle instead of half sour it was no big deal and they made an extra effort the next time. I would like to see anyone run a restaurant that is as close to perfect as Deli King. I just ate there last night and the food was piled so high I had to take 1/2 home. It was just as scrumptious the second day for breakfast. At holiday time, give these folks a break. They do work so hard to make sure that the orders are accurate and of high quality. Went here for the first time today. The girl behind the counter was extremely helpful and nice. I got a jr. pastrami with mustard and a combo sloppy Joe. Both sandwiches were delicious. The pastrami was one of the best I've had. I highly recommend. The comb was corned beef and brisket. I think that would be my go to. Pickles were very good too. Hands down one of the best Kosher deli's in NJ- it's been a long time since I've had the pleasure of being served pickles and health salad the moment I sat down. Pastrami & Corned Beef melts in your mouth. Best hidden gem in the menu is the BLT with fried Pastrami- tastes like an authentic bacon BLT. Cannot wait to go back. I have been going to deli king all my life (even the one that used to be in linden). They have top notch everything. My favorites are the sloppy Joe platters or sandwich. The jr. Sloppys are huge and delicious!! The other thing that makes them stand out is the fresh fish. The whitefish is always fresh and juicy. This is the only place that has belly lox. A salty smoked salmon that goes deliciously on a bagel with cream cheese, cucumber, tomato's - something to cut that salt. Much better than nova lox because it has taste. I love this place and would be there all the time if I didn't move to Hunterdon county. Luckily I have family in Clark so whenever they visit they bring me deli king. I forgot to mention the brisket!! Melt in your mouth. It is pricey but for me well worth it!! If you have never been you must give it a try!! I wish we had a place like that out here. read more

Soooo good. After my dad died in typical Jewish tradition friends and family sent food. They sent ridiculous, copious amounts of food. We had food from literally every Kosher and Kosher style deli in North Jersey. And out of all that deli food there was a clear winner and that winner was Deli King. Their food is at another level of deliciousness. I had not, however, visited their location until 2 weeks ago and I'm here to tell you it's the real deal. If you haven't had a proper corned beef or pastrami sandwich and don't feel like heading into the city, might I respectfully suggest you head to Clark and pay them a visit. Likewise, if you need catering again, they should be your go to place. And on another note, unlike 99.99% of other Kosher delis their prices, while certainly not inexpensive , are more than reasonable. Kudos. read more

I've been craving a pastrami sandwich for a while now and had seen the yelp reviews of this shop. Today we happened to be near the shop and stopped in for a takeout pastrami sandwich. I got the "small" pastrami on rye for $14.95. This sandwich was delicious!! Great thin sliced hot pastrami with wonderfully fresh rye bread and the right amount of mustard. For the smaller version of the sandwich it was packed with meat and was the perfect size for one male adult. I've never liked leftover pastrami and this sandwich was perfect for one meal at a reasonable price. Cole slaw and a nice half sour pickle also were good. Can't wait to go back and try the corned beef. Highly recommend!!! read more

First time there had the pastrami turkey combo. Very good looking and tasty sandwich plenty of meat no skimping. Ask for a sour tomato with my sandwich but they give you one pickle for to go I guess. Best deli in the area. Not perfect (pastrami sometimes too chewy and the franks need an upgrade) but most of it more than good enough: the corned beef, the turkey, the salads (cole slaw, health, potato), the matzoh balls (soup too salty) and all the expected items (dr brown, half-sours, knishes square and homemade, latkes, etc etc) good. Very mediocre with extremely unreasonable prices. Ordered a salad with a scoop of tuna and it was 20 dollars. Food wasn't even cold upon pickup. The gentleman at the counter was gruff and rude and did not speak up. However the woman who took my order was very sweet and friendly and accommodating. After a 15 year gap in between visits, this spot has not missed a beat. It was all updated and a bit upscale compared to what I remember, they did a nice job with it. I used to go here very often for lunch when I worked in the area. The BLT is amazing considering it is not pork. You would swear it was. Still, as there is nothing equivalent to Sarge's or Katz's in Manhattan, Jerseyans might want to try Deli King's wide variety of offerings so that they may pick and choose and find deli items they find good or good enough to provide that deli fix. read more

After reading so many rave reviews, we went out of our way to try this deli. Did not disappoint. Pickles and health salad were really good. We shared a Junior size corned beef and a junior size pastrami sandwich. Tasty, great flavor, fresh bread and plenty of meat. The kasha knish was really, really good. "No Wifi Talk to each other Call your Mom Pretend its 1993" (Blackboard sign at Deli King) It's not the easiest place to find, its way back in a shopping plaza behind some buildings. But trust me, it's well worth the effort. We had lunch here today, and minutes after we sat down we were greeted with complimentary bowls of pickles and health salad -sort of a mayo-less coleslaw. I had a cup of matzoh ball soup -it was $4.50 for the basic chicken consommé with noodles and a buck more for a big fluffy matzoh ball. It was excellent- great broth, really nice thin noodles, and a really big matzoh ball that was soft as a pillow and tasted great. Sandwiches come in two sizes -regular and junior, I had a junior sized tongue sandwich for $12.95, and junior must have been a pretty big boy because there was nothing undersized about my plate. Great rye bread, and a good sized portion of tasty thin sliced meat. I added some mustard, and a few sprinkles of the health salad, and it was good to go ! Our server was polite as could be, checked back frequently and was quick on the coffee refills. Deli King's space is divided on half, the right side is the big take out counter, meat case, and bakery. Dear Kenny, I so appreciate you spending the time to respond to my mediocre review. Your recipes, I am sure remain the same - but with that said it really depends on who is preparing it. I did not comment about the stuffed cabbage, only about the gravy. The gravy is not as sweet and not laced with delicious bits of cabbage and raisins. Perhaps I was too harsh because your food is always fresh which is why we have been a customer for decades. Potato knishes have gotten smaller, and we would rather pay more for you are in the past outstanding robust knishes. Just a couple of examples to comment on. Deli King has always been our go to for Shabbat dinners. Still not thrilled with Deli King and will no longer place orders when entertaining, but of course will always stop by for delicious take out sandwiches and sides. I ordered the friend chicken dinner with fries and cal-slaw. The chicken was absolutely disgusting. It was breaded frozen chicken. Nothing fried about it. The fries were completely limp. Terrible. Deli King is the bomb. There are hardly any kosher delis left in New Jersey, and there's a reason this one is still in business. The pastrami is super delicious, and I also really enjoyed the mushroom potato knish. Dill pickles, health salad, and Dr. Brown's sodas - what more does a person need? But my son did learn an important life lesson here: never come to an authentic kosher deli and order chicken fingers! After seeing how disappointing they were, he wanted my pastrami, and then he needed his own. Start with pastrami, people, and you can't go wrong! The sandwiches are just like the sandwiches I used to buy in Manhattan on Lexington Avenue and they taste just as good if not better

I use to work in the area, we ate here all the time years ago. Returned to the area recently with with a friend who loves Jewish Deli's. The place hasn't changed at all. You walk in and they have a take out deli, turn right toward the dinning room with waitress service. Staff came right over. They do carry Gluten Free bread but tonight they were out, might want to call ahead. Some Delis that are truly Kosher will not allow you to bring your own GF bread in. They start you off with pickles and a health salad. We had pastrami and corn beef combo, mine no bread. Meat was lean, sliced thin and so tender. They made me a side of the most delicious mashed potatoes since I couldn't have fries. My friend who is a Jewish deli expert thought the food was great. However, the rye bread didn't have a hard crust which he looks for on authentic rye. That was his only complaint. read more

This is what you get for $12 at Deli King if you order a pastrami and egg sandwich off their "Hot Sandwich" board. See photos. I've been to Deli King many times for their regular pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, which are usually very good and piled pretty high for $12.95. For $11.95 you'd expect to get basically the same sandwich of pastrami piled high (maybe slightly less) with an egg on top. Which is why I was pretty shocked to see 2 fried eggs and maybe 2 slices worth of pastrami on rye here. I actually called to ask if f there was a mistake. As per their terrible reputation for customer service there was no offer to make it right or any attempt to keep the customer happy. They simply said, "that's how we do it". Well, the way I do it is to post a picture of their crappy $12 sandwich on Yelp. Buyer beware. Update: I appreciate the feedback from the restaurant but if you say that it's an egg sandwich than it should be for an egg sandwich price and not on your menu next to the regular pastrami sandwich which costs about the same price. I've been to tons of delis and I've never paid more than $7 for a simple egg sandwich with a little meat on it. read more

Just enjoyed lunch with my Cousin at Deli King in Clark. A throw back to the good old days of delis, with really fresh food, but with healthy options too! Nothing like a Dr. Brown's soda to wash everything down. I 'm not a Celray Tonic fan but it is available for those diehard deli fans! The Rugalach just came out of the oven and were warm and tasty. But the real reason for my review was the amazing Smoked Fish Platter and service I received for Break Fast this Yom Kippur. Everything was superb, the quality unbeatable. For old-school Jewish deli, this is the place to go in North-Central NJ. The Matzah Ball and Mushroom Barley soups are great starters. The corned beef, pastrami, roast beef and turkey are all outstanding choices for sandwiches and sloppy joes. If you're really hungry, check out the triple decker sloppy joe with 3 meats, cole slaw and Russian Dressing.
