Named after the owner's wife, I have been coming to Bella Gina's for many years, where the owner, Anthony, greeted us upon entering today and recognized me by name. Being an old-school Italian deli, my go-to sandwich is called Mama's Delight, consisting of fresh mozzarella made in house, tomatoes, and pesto on a hard Italian bread cut into two. One of my colleagues accompanied me, and being a first-timer, she got the prosciutto, mozzarella, and roasted peppers on hard Italian bread. Both orders came with homemade potato chips. Besides sandwiches, they also have a large selection of Italian cuisine, salads, and Italian products for takeout and catering. So I'm angry while writing this. Maybe tomorrow I'll come on here an edit it bc I'm def more loyal than most but tonight I wasn't the only one unhappy w Bella Gina's. My friend was there two days ago and we compared stories of how we were treated w such impatience and indifference and downright rude ass unacceptable behavior. I used to love love love this place. My go to. For like 10 years if not more. Until day. It was the straw that broke the camel's back. . lately... rude customer service and even though you try to think about how this is an old school joint and just like Spiritos in Elizabeth, you can overlook the rudeness of the servers by saying they've been there forever, the prices are way too high here to ignore it. And tbh the servers at Spirito's were actually MORE polite if that is even possible. If I'm spending my hard earned money I want you to be NICE to me and act like you want me there. Pretend if u must. You wanna charge $10 a pound for olives, make sure they're fresh not all crinkly at the openings bc they're getting old and prepackaged. Wtf. Had to go to shop rite after I left here. Why???!!!!?! For a couple things. Not just one. You want people to come back... don't act like I'm bothering you bc I'll just walk right out and drive twenty minutes somewhere else. I don't care that much. I don't wanna be treated like shit when I come here anymore. It's been two or three times and it's very difficult to overlook esp when the display cases aren't filled w appetizing aesthetically pleasing food, and what they are filled with doesn't look super fresh. Lately. Lately it's slim pickings here and then you're rushed or spoken to like ur some jerk off the street. No thank you. Last time my job ordered a bunch of sandwiches, they did some dumb cheap shit and now we're not ordering from here anymore. And we gave a nice order which bums me out bc the food is good. DO BETTER. On a positive note the fresh mozz is always good and there are old school items here like when your grandparents put things out on the table. They even have a version of Brioschi. The owner is always polite to everyone. The staff should reflect the same. Maybe he needs to provide more incentive. Idk what the deal Is but if the workers are not happy, then maybe they're not being treated right and in turn, customers are suffering. My elderly father who is diabetic and half blind went here after getting blood work done around the corner and bought a coffee and pastry. He proceeded to start eating the pastry while still on the premises because he was light headed. The woman employee rudely told him that "this isn't a bodega, you can't eat in here." First of all, a bodega is a grocery store not a deli/bakery. Secondly, how unprofessional and discriminatory to say that to any customer and even worse to an elderly person. My extended family goes there to buy their prepared salads for special occasions and will no longer shop there! A coworker brought us here for lunch on my visit. They apparently once had indoor seating,, but with covid there is just outdoor seating and not much of it so we got this to go. When I saw they had a roast beef with gravy the cajun in me decided to give it a try. The bread is thick, but delicious. The sandwich itself was about 6in long, but about 3 to 4 inches wide - so this is no "subway" sandwich. Have a good appetite or be prepared for leftovers. If sandwiches are not your thing there are plenty of other options available for a meal as well as a variety of cookies and treats. Last minute Christmas Eve day they put together a full tray of chicken cutlet. Huge portions, flavorful, & tender. This was my 1st time there, they had free samples of delicious fresh mozzarella and meat. Live music for the season such a nice touch. Ordered a $15 roast beef sandwich with fresh mozz & gravy. I received a gross looking pork sandwich with broccoli rabe and gravy. I don't eat pork or broccoli. Called the deli and the guy just responded "we are out of stock". I asked why he wouldn't just call me to tell me that instead of sending a random sandwich. He just laughed. I asked why he was laughing, no response. Then I asked if it makes any sense to just send a random sandwich. Again he just laughed. I told him I would never order from there again and he just said "ok" and hung up. Avoid this place for breakfast. They take the order in the front but they cook everything in the back. The major problem is that the person cooking gives zero fucks how good it is. I asked for an egg wrap with zucchini and the guy literally put huge chunks of zucchini in the wrap and never cut them up. Why would he have to cook it well? He is not eating it. Again just avoid this place for breakfast. There's a CVS across the street. Just get yourself a Kind Bar and call it a day. Lol. read more

Bella Gina's is one of the best Italian Delis that I've been to. The fresh mozzarella is to die for! Not only is it fresh, but it's juicy and adds flavor to anything that you get it with. So far I've had their Caprese Salad with grilled chicken on it and it was fabulous. I"ve also had a sandwich with fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, prosciutto, and balsamic and it was so amazing that I ate the whole thing (and they give you a generous portion). The worst chicken sandwich ever!!!!! I placed an order to go and when I got home to eat my lunch the chicken was tasteless, not only that but rubbery. HORRIBLE experience! I had family show up unexpectedly on Sunday - So I get into car and go to Bella Ginas. I've been going there for many, many years... Great when you need Italian food and have no time to do it yourself. They close on Sunday at 1:30 - I arrived at 1:05. Person helping me was S.N.O.T.T.Y!!! I had 4 subs I needed to get and figured I'd shop the store, as I do when I get the opp to go to store. She took 1st sandwich order and stepped behind the deli case to check for a coldcut that I asked to be added to sandwich. After a minute or two, when she didn't come back to me, I asked her if she wanted the rest of the sandwich order....... She comes back to me, huffs and puffs to take the order and tells me: "Well if you called in the order, I would have had it waiting for you"..... I said something to try to find humor in it, but this dog face didn't get the clue... gives me the stink eye and huffs at me, what else do you need! I tell ya, if I didn't have family waiting, I would have left. I dropped almost $50 there. BUT, I DID stop shopping. Additionally, I was going to buy Italian cookies, Tarelli, nougat candy, a few boxes of Ravs, and stuffed hot peppers - - but Bella Gina LOST that part of the sale. PLUS the had her mask on BELOW her nose - - I should have left IMMEDIATELY and should call the board of health!!! Seriously - with $$ being tight and my fear of this darn Covid thing - - I WOULD EXPECT that Bella Gina would get it that CUSTOMER SERVICE is key to getting people to walk in spend their cash! I have been going to Bella Ginas for a few months now the sandwiches are good but not consistent, I ordered a sub last week and usually has the shredded lettuce what should go on the sandwich well the other day ordered the same sub and received mixed green salad, wtf. I have gotten numerous catering items from this place before and was always satisfied. The last time I got an order of chicken Parmesan from this facility it was kind of mushy and the cheese was stuck to the tray lid. Also received a tray of sandwiches that had the oil and vinegar on it already and it was soggy by the time we ate it. It really is the best food VALUE I have ever encountered-anywhere. I eat the buffet probably 80% of the time. How can $10-11 ever be called "pricey"? If I wrote a review on one of the few days I was "disappointed," I don't think that would be fair, but I do think that's where most of the bad reviews come from-one or two bad experiences and it's what have you done for me lately? Seems like they are too busy talking with family and friends at the VIP table in front. If you are picking up something to go then I would recommend this place. I don't think the previous reviewer was altogether fair in his assessment of Bella Gina's. To say you'll "try a different town" is a *touch* biased, even if you didn't care for the buffet. To be upfront, I've never tried the buffet, but I've been coming to this deli since it was called DiCosmo's (and owned by a different family). It's a traditional Italian deli, complete with daily fresh "mootz" (mozzarella in my boyfriend's jargon) and sandwiches made to order. (I LOVE their focaccia sandwiches with that dressing...but I digress) A bit pricey, and certainly not a dieters best friend, but well worth it on both accounts. 4 stars because I haven't tried the buffet to give an honest assessment, but I think the wait at lunchtime for their sandwiches and other such provisions is a testament to their status as a neighborhood staple. read more
