The corned beef, pastrami, roast beef and turkey are all outstanding choices for sandwiches and sloppy joes. If you're really hungry, check out the triple decker sloppy joe with 3 meats, cole slaw and Russian Dressing. My Family had been ordering from the linden location since I was a kid. Linden is now closed but I heard Clark was the same. I would say the sloppy joes are close but not as good. They seem to be too dry. Probably need more russisn dressing. They should have 2 lines. 1 for those ordering and 1 for those picking up. Had to wait in line for 20 minutes behind people placing orders. When I finally got to the front my order was ready. I ordered it 2 days in advance. I shouldn't have to stand behind people who are ordering now and having their sandwiches made while I wait. The purpose of ordering in advance is to not wait in line and definitely not wait for other people to have their food prepared. Another negative is they charge a service charge. What? So I paid for the food and the tax and they add a little extra as a service charge? Add it to the cost of the food. Don't add it after. All that does is piss people off. Will go back for our yearly sloppy joe platter tradition but nothing more than that! read more

I also always like supporting my people so yes, I want a knish, and put that hot pastrami on rye - then hand me a cold Black Cherry Dr. Brown. This is a charming, old school kind of deli. It's a neighborhood institution and the stars of David do not lie, this is my kind of place. Friendly people behind the counter. It is an old fashioned, delicious looking food on display in the glass see-through-case, and good smells all around for a deli. This also did not feel like a Satriale's (from the fictionalized television show "The Sopranos" aired on HBO) since I did not fear for my life and tremble at any point, like I would at a Satriale's. Everyone was too nice-looking and pleasant in their interactions with the customer for me to think any of them would be capable of murder. It was like stepping back into time when a corner deli was a neighborhood deli, not something trying to cut back on quality so far that they give prison-grade meat so they can produce low-quality food more quickly and cheaply so they can profit more. That is how the mega-deli corps and sandwich shops work these days it seems like. However one should note that since it is a down-home, old school place you will be waiting a bit for the food. Sometimes that is good, sometimes it is bad if you are in a rush to get back to the office and a drive-thru would have been a much quicker option. Also if like me you become an extraordinary impatient buddha when you can see and smell delicious food but it is not in your hands and on the way to your mouth just yet. The waiting is the worst part. Hot pastrami on rye: 9/10 Pickle: 9.1/10 Knish: 6.9/10 because it was totally different from how my family makes them. First off, it was huge. I gave half to a coworker and still I could not come close to finishing my half. The inside potato was more crumbly than my family makes it, we typically like it more creamy than crumbly. The crust was also very thick and hard to cut whereas we like it less thick and very buttery soft to cut into so it is easy to half-it, rather than hacking and slashing trying to half it and split it with a gentile who didn't even know what a knish was until two minutes ago. We have been to Deli King many times over the years and just love their delicious food especially the sloppy Joe. I like corned beef but my husband likes pastrami so they make the Joe side by side. Pastrami on one side and corned beef on the other! They are very accommodating. I recently noticed that they have an Italian hot dog on the menu. I gave it a try and think it was the best I ever had. I've been eating "sloppy joe" sandwiches from Deli King since I was a toddler. My favorite is still the tongue sandwich. I usually order a junior size for myself but I sometimes opt for the larger size. The staff are always very helpful and willing to accommodate their guests. My family loves the "new pickles" & matzo ball soup, as well as the "bottomless" pickles and health salad that are provided for free when you arrive. The food is always fresh and there's something for everyone. Great management as well. read more

I was in the mood for a good sandwich for lunch while at work. Since my company just moved to Clark, NJ I have been relying on Yelp for suggestions. Found Deli King and just kept seeing the word pastrami pop out at me from a quick glance of the review and tips. Went in and ordered the pastrami on rye w/ mustard and wasn't disappointed at all. Really tasty. I am not an expert on what good pastrami is all about, but you can tell when something just taste good and this was it. I had a pickle as well. Not sure what type as they had all different types of pickles but it wasn't as sour as the pickles I've had in the past (insert joke here). I paid $11.72 for the sandwich and pickle. Not sure if the pickle was extra or comes with the sandwich order. I've been told a good, hefty pastrami will run you between $12-$16. I plan to return and try some of the other food. read more

Had the corned beef and pastrami sandwich here. It was really big, we were able to split one sandwich for lunch. Didn't realize they had a whole inside seating area, really nice spot if you want to have a relaxing lunch and sit inside. I suggest you study the menu online before you go in because once you walk in and see the Buffett in the front case your going to want one of everything. Coney Island knish are perfect and their sloppy joe (corned beef and pastrami with cole slaw on rye) are addicting. They give you complimentary pickles and cabbage when you sit down. I've been going here for years, and I make it a priority to pick up my standard order whenever I'm in New Jersey - a third of a pound of hand-sliced smoked salmon, a small container of homemade scallion cream cheese, and a couple of fresh bagels. For me, this is the perfect meal. This place is a full kosher deli and caterer, and the high quality of the food is a well-kept secret of the locals. Don't tell them I'm sharing it. The prices may seem a bit on the high side, but they do everything themselves, and you need to pay for that. Worst experience ever. Went in to order 2 hot dogs to go. Woman behind the counter was waiting on one gentleman ahead of me on Sat at 5:45. Placed my order. Then it got busy and I waited patiently for my hot dogs but enough was enough after 20 mins. The line for pickups was getting longer and the 1 woman was now handling all other orders. The counter and kitchen staff was a hot mess and pick up orders were also not ready. I finally had to ask about my order and she replied "oh you're still here?!" This is what I found when I got home. They obviously left it cooking (broiling?) all that time and rather than cooking 2 knew ones, turned the burnt side down in the buns, and wrapped it up to serve to the customer. It has been five-plus years since my Yelp review of Deli King, and during that period a few things have changed. Their dining room, then evoking memories of a cafeteria, is now considerably brighter and more visually appealing. Their sandwiches are larger than they once were; now a hearty meal for a hungry diner without resorting to side dishes. Of course, all of these upgrades come at a price, and DK's prices have risen considerably to that $15-20 plateau which is the going rate for a packed, top-line corned beef or pastrami sandwich. "Junior sized" versions may be had for a few dollars less. To those who truly appreciate a very good Kosher deli sandwich every once in a while, the experience is well worth the price. Further, a stuffed classic Sloppy Joe (corned beef and pastrami, of course, with well-drained cole slaw and Russian dressing) in the hands of DK has the power to be transformative. Yes, it is that good! Deli King's meats lack just a bit of the deep and salty punch of their New York counterparts, partially because they are very skillfully trimmed of excess fat. Their cole slaw is also just a bit too sweet, and the complimentary pickle bowl brought to each table isn't as generous as some. Yet, in the context of enjoying a premium Kosher deli sandwich, these are small concessions. Their rye bread, essential for keeping a moist sandwich together without becoming a distraction, is understood to be baked in-house, and as good as any you'll find on either side of the Hudson River. Service is reasonably fast, always friendly, but never hovering. In my world the true mark of an excellent Sloppy Joe is measured by a want to repeat the experience again the next day . . . and the day after . . . My mother was visiting me and I had a craving for matzo ball soup. My mom hasn't had kreplach in over 30 years. My grandmother used to make it for her when I was growing up. She was so thrilled to find a place she could visit with my father. I have t had good Jewish deli food since our days visiting Bubee and Zaydee in Brooklyn. We ordered matzo ball soup, kreplach, a turkey sandwich & vegetable wrap. Everything was freshly prepared. The soup was so good! Tasted like homemade soup, not heavily processed garbage from other restaurants. The turkey sandwich was piled sky high. Enough for 2 meals. My vegetable wrap was very fresh and I really appreciated the portobello mushrooms on it. Not a lot of places add that to wraps and it ups the quality of it for me. This little gem is tucked away in the Clarktown Shopping Center, and I'm so glad I found it! Now this is no Harold's NY deli, but they do have reasonable sides portions for the prices and has that same, eclectic hodge-podge decor with cute catch phrases on the wall like - 'No WiFi. Talk to each other, call your mom, pretend it's 1993.' I adore the fact that Deli King is not just a sandwich spot, but also has all the delicious knishes, latkes, pickles, and salads you would expect of an authentic Jewish deli. We are not from the area but these two upper west side and northeastern NJ Jewish women were very satisfied...and that is hard to do. Classic pickles and health salad starters were crisp and juicy. We had a pastrami on rye, stuffed cabbage and a potato pancake. The bread and pastrami were out of this world! Soft and flavorful. Stuffed cabbage tasted like years of experience. One and done! Good: place was spotless, staff seemed friendly and efficient. Bad: the exorbitant prices for average food in this category. $13-15 per for corned beef, pastrami, and tongue sandwiches. I couldn't see the young lady making them behind the counter but I figured they must be piled high. Upon opening the packages at home I discovered they most definitely were not. I was moved to weigh them on a kitchen scale and found that each had 6-7 ounces of meat on it. $25-30 per lb for smoked meats? Not me! Loved it. Big piles of delicious corned beef and pastrami on my combo sandwich. The meat was sliced perfectly and the cuts were lean with just the right amount of fat to be tasty. Perfect, classically sour rye with caraway seeds completed the sandwich. Owner Ken gave me some of his great pickles as an appropriate accompaniment. I'm only giving Deli King 3 stars because I bought stuffed cabbages there and when we tried to eat them they actually sizzled in our mouths. They were went rotten, i just can't believe they served them to us. I didn't go back only because it was a rainy day and that's why I got dinner take out to begin with. I can only assume they would have given me a refund. I also bought a knish which was pretty good and some side salads. They were pretty good, but not the best. Honestly, this place didn't strike me as being really fresh which was a disappointment after hearing all of these other reviews. I may give it one more shot with the pastrami and amend my review if it's any good. read more
