We popped in after a long hike on the Horton Springs Trail just outside of Payson. We had a very lovely and enthusiastic greeting and service was wonderful throughout our dining experience. LOVE the gluten free options and opportunities... it made it a no brainer for where to stop before heading home to PHX. They specialize in sauces... enjoyed the jalapeño ranch and pesto aioli. We stopped off for what we hoped would be a quick lunch. There were three other occupied tables when we were seated. After a brief wait, the waitress took our sandwich order and then the wait began. After about 30-40 minutes, we asked to take our order to go. My chicken salad sandwich on a croissant was mediocre. My son gave his custom grilled cheese sandwich with ham, bacon, and Swiss cheese three stars as well. We did enjoy the indoor decor and the prices were decent. Overall, it was a 3-star experience. We go there every Friday for an outstanding breakfast and tea, followed by a quiet and productive business meeting that lasts until time for dessert :) The owners and wait people are wonderful -- attentive and yet they stay out of your way once you don't need anything more. They could charge twice the price for the quality and abundance of the food they prepare, but they genuinely love people and want to give everyone a chance to afford healthy and scrumptious food! Good news: they have a ton of gluten free options on their menu. Bad news: it's not great. My mom and my sister both ordered the tomato soup. It came out and both of them said it was cold. They asked the waiter to heat it up and he said he could only heat it to a certain point legally so he would do that but not any hotter. Strange but ok. Soup came back. Cold. Still cold. The soup was still so cold the cheese hadn't melted in it. It was inedible. No one offered to take it off the bill and the waiter once again said he legally couldn't heat it up any further. What a great place! Both the sandwich and the wrap that my wife and I had was delicious. The potato wedges especially were probably the best potato wedges we've ever had. Everyone was so friendly. Pretty sure it was a family owned business. They gave us recommendations for dinner in the area. They even gave us free raspberry mousse for our anniversary since we were on our anniversary trip. Oh yeah, the raspberry mousse was homemade, fantastic! Highly recommend and next time we are up in Payson it will be our first stop for lunch. read more

This quaint family place rates 5 stars on friendliness, attentiveness and their "aim to please" attitude and philosophy. Have I had better food elsewhere? Yes. Have I had better service? Not likely. What was most impressive is how this place caters to those with dietary needs. I am gluten/sugar free and there were several items for me to chose from. And they were willing to customize my meal to my dietary needs. Any restaurant that will try and accommodate special diets deserves a shout out and thanks. Driving through Payson after a long camping trip and looking for healthier food to grab for lunch. Found Delicious Cafe on Google with 4.8 stars so had high expectations. The people were super nice and we were given a plethora of beverage options. I ordered a Carmel latte which was so bad I couldn't drink it. For my meal I had "That's a Wrap" which was fresh but I was confused with the plain yogurt since they sell several flavorful sauces. It definitely could have used some flavor. My son ordered The Dipper which he liked but he asked for honey mustard and it was a yellow mustard base (gross! Please use a Dijon base!). Cute little place with plenty of space. When walking in, a customer walking out mentioned something about a "3-ring circus...", looking back now, totally made sense. I won't go into all the details, but service was very slow and food was bland/tasteless - my wife's sandwiche even came out on a hoagie type roll with 2 bottoms and not a top (ha!). They wouldn't let us order even though we were more than ready, instead telling us the food will come out quicker if we wait a while to order...hmmm, ok? My opinion only- I like seeing outside the windows, the windows are covered with a vinyl like lining, can't see outside. I ordered the French dip- my take the aujus could have had more flavor and been hotter (temp), it was a bit bland, the sandwich could have had a bit more cheese, a bit toastier and hotter - the meat could have been shaved thinner and been hotter - would I order that again - probably not. The other order we had was a chicken hot sandwich with some chipotle ranch, bacon etc. that was better and tastier. All in all, I think they have the service dialed in, location is great, but absolutely lack that "mhmm" moment in their finish touches and detail in their food, flavor etc. Would I come back again, yes probably for breakfast but that is it. We came here once for lunch and once for breakfast. For breakfast, I got gluten-free blueberry, muffin, and Grams whippersnacker with gf French toast. Everything was delicious!
