Last month, I went on vacation to the mainland. Stopped in at my old salon to have them color my hair. Showed them a picture of the look I was going for. My hair came out wrong!!! Called the salon the next day and asked them to fix it. Went in later that week and showed the same pic to a new colorist. I came out looking like the little mermaid. I will say it was fun for a minute, but, again, not what I wanted. After almost a month of living with it, I needed it fixed. It faded drastically and looked like 6 months of grow out. It was horrible! I called Lisa, at The Beauty Spot, and explained my situation. They were booked until December. I asked if she could take my name and number for an earlier cancellation. She said she would talk to her team and call me back. Within minutes, she called back and gave me Randi's number. I messaged her with pictures of my hair. She was able to schedule me, three days later, to fix my color. The day of my appt, I showed Randi the color I was going for. I'll be honest, I was nervous and praying the third time was the charm for my hair color. Randi was awesome! She took a few minutes to really look at my hair to see what was done. I think she sensed my nervousness and explained what she was doing. She told me it would be a two step process to fix. Randi was super cute and wouldn't let me watch. She turned me away from the mirrors. The rest of the team was excited for what was happening with the color. Then came time for the "big reveal". WOW!!!!! Randi......WOW!!!!! She is fantastic!!! My hair color was perfect to what I wanted. My hair also looked and felt so much better. It didn't feel like it had been processed three times in a month. I'm so in love with her work! 5 stars and nothing less! Gabbi is ah-mazing. I had a 'balayage' done previously that I was not so in love with through another hair salon/stylist. As soon as I sat down and looked at my hair, it's like she read my mind.. she knew exactly what was bugging me about it. We talked in detail about what I wanted and she quickly went to work. After a couple of hours she fixed my hair and made it even BETTER than I was expecting. Bonus, she is SUPER nice and always made sure I was comfortable. Done. I'll never go to anyone else. Gabbi is the only hair stylist that I go to. She does an amazing job at everything! Out of all the stylist I've been to in the past, she was the only one that was able to get my hair how I wanted it to look. I usually get worried when people do my hair because I have really thick and curly hair and I've had some bad experiences in the past. Due to medical reasons, I'm needing to take a break from all the harsh chemical processing, mainly all the bleaching/color lifting that's been done in a vain attempt to achieve silvery ashy highlights (sigh). Decided to go back to a more evenly-toned darker color since my hair is so badly damaged and could use more TLC and I was tired of it looking and feeling so unhealthy. The Beauty Spot is a cute, little salon on Waialae Ave. between 8th and 9th Ave., across Punchbowl Fender Works. Convenience is key, and for me this place is "la crème de la crème!" It's literally a hop, skip, and a jump away from my bachelorette pad (that I share with the bf. Hehe.) Lisa is the owner and she just opened up shop not too long ago. She's experienced, skillful, and one of the nicest (and funniest) human beings on the planet (that I've come across in my 25 years of life). My schedule is absolutely bananas and Lisa still manages to fit me in. In other words, she's very accomodating and flexible with appointment times. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this salon. Lisa, Randy and Dayna are always so happy and welcoming. There is a warm ohana feeling when you walk in. Everyone is relaxed, talking story and even the customers tell you hi. The warm wood tones and open space makes you want to stay and hangout with everyone. There is also a tv for you/your friends to watch while waiting. One of the best things about coming here is that you never feel pressured to cut your hair in any other way than what you want. If you have an idea and talk to any one of the stylists you will walk out with exactly what you pictured. I have referred my friends to Lisa especially when their haircut/color didn't come out they way they wanted it. She does great work and can fix almost anything!!! Randi was the bomb and she's been taking care of my quick-growing-Okinawan-hair ever since -- and now she moved here to the Beauty Spot. I'm pretty sure I'm her most frequent customer because my hair grows faster than anyone on the planet. If you knew me for a long time, you'd know that I'm picky about my hair. My older daughter went to see Gabbi and my younger daughter and I went to see Dayna. We were all VERY happy with how our hair turned out. My older daughter had very long, thick, and wavy hair and she is a total low maintenance kind of girl. She wanted a shorter cut, right below her shoulders, and Gabbi cut and styled it perfectly. Gabbi worked with her waves and her thickness and now my daughter's hair is the best it's ever been. I had a cut and color with Dayna and couldn't be happier. My younger daughter has curly hair and was sun damaged and Dayna trimmed it to get all the dead ends off and look fresh again. I love this place! There has always been parking, it is clean and although a smaller space, has high ceilings that make it still feel bright and not cramped. All the women that work there are friendly and Randi does a great job with my hair. I've gotten many compliments on her cut and color work, even from other hair stylists! The main thing I would change is that the pricing isn't very clear so I never really know how much things are going to cost. They don't have a receptionist so the first time I had to leave a message and wait until the stylist called me back with contact number that I've been able to use to reach her directly. read more

I have been with Lisa for almost 15 years. and once in a while, on a business trip, I might end up in SOHO or the East village or Tokyo and having some flamboyant fella cut. I have been getting my hair done by Dayna and she is definitely the bomb dot com. I have been to hair professionals in Las Vegas, O'ahu, the Big Island, and Florida. No one compares to her. She uses at least two colors to blend hi lights and/or hombres where as other places I have been to uses only one so it looks terrible. I have long hair and it has taken me quite some time to grow it out so she understands me when i ask for a trim. Others define trim as make over. N.O. I have gotten frustrated with the large salons where the staff keeps changing, so I wanted to try a small salon. I have curly hair and everyone else tries to cut it to be straight. After reading so many positive reviews, my daughter and I were hoping to try the beauty spot. I grew up and live in the community and am a big supporter of the neighborhood businesses. A family friend also owns a business in the same complex so we thought we'd try it. Unfortunately, when I sent my teenage daughter in to ask for a service menu, they simply told her they ran out and offered no other information or assistance. I'm sure they're great with their existing clients, but it seems that they are not interested in taking on new ones :( read more

I have been going to Lisa Kawai for YEARS, followed her from Hino's and I absolutely LOVE her! She knows not to cut my hair too short and she suggests different styles when I tire of the same ole' thing! She even took the time to teach me how to use the hair straightener that I purchased! My husband and I have taken our 3 year old son here twice and have had great experiences both times! We made a request for our appointments via Yelp and received quick responses from Lisa (within a half hour!) The first and second time Randi was able to take us in and was able to work with our late schedule (5:30 pm - half hour before closing.) She was so good with our toddler son who was afraid to cut his hair that the second time around he wasn't afraid at all. She did a phenomenal job talking with him during the process and making him feel comfortable. Lisa was also there and was so nice to us and my son. My husband and I really felt at ease with them. We've been to a lot of hair places for my son and the only other place that was good with kids AND did a great cut was Pig Tails and Crew Cuts, but you pay a lot for a kids cut there. The Beauty Spot was affordable and did an excellent job! We'll definitely be regulars there. read more
