Not great not bad. I had one of the large Detroit pizzas for approximately $37 which I felt was a bit steep for the size and toppings. The toppings didn't have a ton of flavor and didn't stretch to the crust but were all in the middle. Ordered take out but had a nice set up inside and outdoor tables on the patio. Seems like a nice neighborhood spot. I'd try other styles of pizza if I was around but wouldn't pick it out specifically

We got into town late and went to the closest pizza place to our room. What a pleasant experience. The staff was so helpful with tips about visiting DC and the pizza was fantastic. Had a small scoop of homemade ice cream and it was delicious. I'm glad we started off our trip here. Highly recommend for the food and the atmosphere.

Adorable packaging and it made it back 30 minutes home and was warm enough to serve!

We drove from NW all the way to Capitol Hill because I needed deep dish pizza- haven't had it in over a decade (and no I'm not pregnant lol). We ordered a large with some veggies and a personal with the meatballs, Kalamata olives and mushrooms and BABY!!! The personal pizza was mine and it took me 4 servings to finish it! This thing is SERIOUS, the large fed my family of 6 with 2 servings for my husband for lunch and we also ordered garlic knots and wings. The wings were the only meh of the experience. They were under seasoned, weren't cleaned well, and were definitely fried HARD (DRY). My son complained as he devoured them though and the sauce was good. Overall 3.5/5 for two reasons: 1) the price is very very high- $80+ for one large pizza, one pan pizza, one order of garlic knots and EIGHT wings!!! And 2) there is NO parking. Yes it's Capitol Hill and I get it but it was a little frustrating even though we were able to find a spot to pick up from. The owner was really nice and regaled my husband with the differences between Chicago and Detroit pizza lol. Also, for us it's on the opposite side of DC and it should be a once in a blue moon treat but to me, they do Chicago pizza a credit and I was not disappointed.

Really cute corner shop serving great pizza in any style you could imagine (NY, Detroit, Chicago)! Overall the pizza had a nice undercarriage and good sauce to cheese ratio. Ample amount of seating inside with a few smaller tables outside. Friendly staff and quick service!

Trash. Again.

My household has had mixed reviews of the food when we've ordered (sometimes very good, sometimes very bad). But I saw rats near their trash, which we haven't otherwise seen in years on the block. They've really gotten sloppy on dumping food waste on the sidewalk and not having sufficient sanitation services. If this is what they have in the front in their business for everyone to see, imagine what is going on behind closed kitchen doors. One curiosity. They consistently throw disposable rubber gloves next to their trash bins nearly every day. See them in the attached photo. They must take the trash out while wearing rubber gloves, take the gloves off, and then throw them right on the ground? Right there, on a public sidewalk right in front of their own place of business. Kinda bizarre behavior.

Waited 15 for one slice of pizza. Terrible

Waited 15 min for one slice of pizza. Isn't the whole point when ordering a slice for it to be quick because they are reheating a slice? Terrible wish I never paid & waited for a slice that took forever.

Best pizza in the DMV. Everything is artisan and authentic. The Chicago deep dish and wings are my favorite. follow my instagram for more reviews: @daithefoodie

I reviewed this spot way back when I first started my foodie journey!! They were in a ghost kitchen then, and they have a brick & mortar. I had a whole experience in there...LET'S GO!! . Where I am: @dellabarbapizza . Location Reviewed: 1382 East Capitol St., N.E. Washington D.C. . Items Reviewed: STAMP!! Their Meatball's ($14 Three 100% beef meatballs, with marinara, shaved Parmesan, & basil). High quality protein, with savory sauce!! LIKE THAT!! Their NY Thin Sliced Pepperoni Pie ($14 one size with mozzarella, Parmesan, marinara, & pepperoni). A nice crunch, either those cup pepperonis!! STAMP!! Their Nonna Slice ($7 with ricotta, mozzarella-fiore de latte, basil, tomato sauce, & tomatoes). Simple, a thicker crust, their BEST pie!!! STAMP!! Their Chicago Deep Dish Mini Pie ($4 with tomato sauce on top, Italian sausage, & mozzarella). The crust was flaky, & buttery, well sauced, & the sausage was plentiful!! STAMP!! I'm pretty conflicted with this place because other reviews are both good and bad. First off, the pizza. We got the Chicago pizza, and while it tasted great and the quality of ingredients was perfect, it was at the same time disgusting. It's a 3lb pizza, but 2.5lbs are cheese. An ungodly amount of cheese. All you could taste was cheese. I can't speak for other style pizzas, but Jesus, I might have an artery blockage after that. The service was decently fast. The gentleman at the counter was super nice and gave the full run down of the menu and ordering process. It's definitely on the expensive side. Toppings are $2 each and you barely get anything. I guess quality makes up for it? The atmosphere is cozy and cute. It's clean and updated. A nice ambiance when it's not overly crowded. I'd try other pizzas just won't ever be getting the chicago style again.

My first time and I was blown away. I'm a huge fan of authentic pizza and have searched far and wide around the DMV. I have to say Della Barba fit the bill! Nestled in a serene section of Capital Hill its a great spot to check out on a pleasant weather day. I ordered both the NY Style plain cheese and the Nonna (a sort of Neopolitan thicker slice) pizzas. Both were excellent, starting with the perfectly crisp and chewy crusts. I literally felt like I was in NY. Kudos to the chef. Finished off with n awesome toll house chocolate chip cookie and warm apple strudel with vanilla ice cream. that's a wrap! pizza craving satisfied. They also offer the Detroit and Chicago styles which I plan to return for. The staff and owner were very kind and made sure our experience was one to remember. One note: there's not a huge dining area but don't let that deter you or you'd be missing out. I highly recommend Della Barba!

Inside

A small place with about 8 tables. In the east capital area. They have 4 kinds of pizza. Chicago deep dish, Detroit style, nonna's pizza and classic New York thin. With everyone walked in he ( the owner joe) would go into an explanation about the differnt styles, how they are made and the differnce of ingredients in the dough of each. It took about 5 mins, but it showed the love in what he creates. I went specifically for the deep dish. It did not disappoint. The cheese pulled was very impressive. The crust was deliscious. Tomato sauce on top. Hmmm hmmm hmmm!!! My friend had the Detroit style. The crust had like a parmesan crust and you could tell the difference between the Chicago and Detroit. I did not see the Nonna, but I did take home a small new York thin. It was good as well, but I will stick with the Chicago or Detroit when I go again.. I will be going again. The strawberry cheese cake..there are no words to describe. I did not talk at all while eating this whole meal. Back to the cheesecake. It comes in a cup, with fresh strawberry on top. Thick and creamy with a Graham cracker bottom crust. I was so waiting to try this restraunt and so glad I did. Worth the trip to DC from manassas. Definitely an experience and one I will be doing again and most definitely again.

Street Parking Only & It's Definitely Hit Or Miss. I Got Lucky & Found A Spot, But It Is Metered So Be Prepared To Pay. This Spot Is Literally A "Side Door" Located On The Side Of Scarlet Oak. Super Unique Setup With Cool Lights That Make It Easy To Spot. It's Different From Your Typical Pizza Place, Which I Actually Liked. Since It Was Monday, They Had Half-Off Pizzas If You Dine In & I Had To Take Advantage Of That. CHEESE PIZZA I Ordered A Cheese Pizza & Lemon Water. This Is Detroit-Style Pizza, So Don't Expect New York Style. It's Thick, With A Generous Amount Of Mozzarella Cheese & Tomato Sauce. Honestly, It Almost Felt Like A Cheesy Bread Situation But In A Good Way. The Crust Was Buttery With A Slight Crisp On The Outside & Soft Inside, Which Was The Perfect Balance. The Ingredients Tasted Fresh, & It Was Very Filling. The Size I Got Came With 4 Slices, & Honestly, 2 Slices Was More Than Enough. I'd Definitely Come Back & Bring My Son This Feels Like A Spot He'd Love, Especially If He's Into Breadsticks & Cheesy Pizza. The Staff Was Decent, Though I Didn't Interact Much. The Overall Setup Is Interesting, A Full Restaurant Vibe Inside With This Separate Pizza Concept On The Side. Different, But It Works. I'm Glad I Finally Tried It, Unique Setup, Solid Detroit-Style Pizza, & A Great Deal If You Catch It On The Right Day. Just Have To Be In The Mood For Detroit-Style Pizza.

Through the side door, of course. Side Door Pizza is essentially a takeout counter just off the kitchen with its own separate entrance. We didn't quite realize that going in, and since it was cold and windy, we asked if we could take our pizza inside and sit at Scarlet Oak. They were happy to accommodate, asking only that we order something there as well, so we grabbed a drink. The pizza came out quickly, hot and fresh. We're vegetarians, so we ordered one square slice of cheese and one square slice of mushroom. The cheese slice was good but not great. It could have used a bit more sauce and seasoning. The mushroom slice, however, was excellent. We both immediately agreed we should have just ordered a full mushroom pie. Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience. The environment was welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive. If you're in the Navy Yard area, it's definitely worth a stop. They also have a fairly extensive menu beyond pizza, which we didn't explore this time--but if you go, it's worth checking out the full lineup.

Whoa now! We had a slice of the Bacon Me Crazy and a small detroit style Butcher's Block Pie…read more(Cup-n-Char Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Virginia Honey Ham, Bacon, Fresh Oregano, Mozz-Provo Blend). Premium toppings. Fresh, plentiful, great quality. We ordered both well done and received a nice crispy edge on the crust but with all the toppings it's damn near impossible to get a strong enough base to avoid bend. It's worth the compromise- trust me! Both were delicious but I'll skip the detroit crust next time, and there will be a next time. For me the detroit crust was a bit spongy and had a slight yeast taste. Not enough to ruin the experience but enough for me to choose a different crust next time. We also got the ranch for dipping - new experience. That too wasn't for me. The ranch is homemade and great texture and flavor just not what I expected. It had a heavy dill flavor...yep...dill. Again, tasty but, for me, this is more for veggies than pizza. All in all, looking forward to trying other pizzas. Check them out.

My biggest pet peeve about NY style pizza places is that it's impossible to snag a hot slice out of the oven. When the pipping hot pizza is taken out of the oven, it's tucked under the display case. By the time the pizza pie is depleted from the display case, the hidden pizza gets cold as it's finally moved up. The cycle repeats itself...so you can never get a hot fresh slice of pizza. The Garlic Knots were hands-down the best part of my oil! I wish I could order a single knot as I didn't really want 3 knots. While the Chicken and Eggplant Parm are heavily promoted on flyers at the tables, I didn't see them on the menu, it would have been helpful to see before ordering. There's plenty of seating upstairs. Decent neighborhood spot to grab a slice of pizza.

The crust was airy crunchy with the perfect bite. Savory tomato sauce and just the right amount of cheese. The cupped charred and large portions of pepperoni hit the spot . It was a very good pie. The brussel sprouts with added goat cheese & balsamic was the ideal pairing and we really enjoyed both. I didn't rate it a five not because of the food but the charge extra for " dipping " sauce.
