This place really isn't set up well for outdoor dining. You can do it, but the tables are small, there are no lights outside when it gets dark, and the mosquitoes were relentless. Service missed the mark, too, with us not getting napkins, utensils, and plates until we asked for them, and water came in tiny plastic cups. As you can see from the picture, a deep dish pizza here really required utensils and napkins. The pizza itself was great. We kept remarking about how tasty the sauce is, and one deep dish pizza was more than enough for 2 of us. If we go back, we'll either order for takeout or try eating inside. read more

My husband and I went to Della Barba for our annual Pi day pizza this year. As a former Chicago native, I was blown away by the deep dish Chicago style pizza. The crust was absolute perfection, the cheese was extra delicious and the sauce went on for days. Literal perfection. I'm still drooling over it. Hands down the best pizza we have ever had on Pi day! The service was fantastic. Even though the restaurant was busy, the man we interacted with went above and beyond to provide speedy and friendly service. Nope, never again sorry! On top of being 25 minutes delayed on an order placed before 6pm on a Friday (that already had an 80 minute cook time), the pizza just wasn't good. The pizzas aren't big, they overall don't have enough sauce, there were issues with each style (except NY) in terms of the cook, and each topping is $2-3 so costs can add up quick. Why not just offer pre-made combinations? Garlic bread was nice and fluffy, one of the few aspects I enjoyed about this meal. Deep dish had a huge, dry crust. Not enough sauce. We got onions, peppers and sausage - the vegetables were uncooked, I did not taste any sausage and question if it was even on there. New York had a decent dough, but crust was fluffier than I like. This was the best pie of the night, but seriously $2 to put garlic on there? Bleh Nonna, where do I begin. If you want mostly dry bread with very little sauce, this one is for you. And for somewhere that was once said to be the best Detroit style in DC (I wouldn't know, they were never open or answered calls when I tried to visit the Ivy City location in the past), this was easily one of my least favorite pies in DC, down there with Emmy. The dough was not fully cooked, edges were not crispy or cheesy. The pepperoni on it was not cooked at all, it was like eating cold generic pepperoni out of a bag from the grocery store, serious lunchables flashbacks while eating this one. The one positive was the brick cheese they use tastes great. To round out the experience, the chocolate chip cookies were not fresh at all. You want to dine in here, on the sidewalk in good weather or in the little nook indoors or when it's rainy or too hot. And espresso drinks in the morning! If I could select a negative star, I would definitely rate this in the negative. Easily the worst restaurant experience I have had in my 10+ years in Washington DC. I walked in with my two kids and was immediately met by a rude and pushy employee who I assume to be the owner. I am sure the owner would have his own perspective, but his disposition from the start was confrontational and accusatory towards me the customer. I would not recommend going here with kids. We had dinner last weekend at Della Barba. We were very happy with the experience. It's a small pizzeria which makes pizza in 4 different styles according to thickness. Visiting DC, we went for dinner and each got an individual Detroit style pizza. It was very good and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Went back a few days later to get a small take-out order, Buffalo Wings and some (Pan de Ajo) Garlic bread. The wings were inedible, fatty, undercooked, and broken. Simply gross. The garlic bread was just ok at best. Our 2nd experience was horrible. They seem to have some odd "rules" specific to this establishment. While I waited for my to-go order, the manager (young lady at the front) was constantly telling people to "stand behind the line" until it's your turn. At the most there were maybe 4 people waiting, so this seemed really dumb to me. If you're going to have a restaurant with a very limited menu and quirky rules (ala Seinfeld's grumpy Soup proprietor) you better have delicious food to back it up. Della Barba does not! read more

The pizza is amazing here! We had the Detroit and chicago styles and still can't decide which one I like better - both were great. I personally liked ordering up at the counter and having the pizza brought to your table. They also have 'mini' pizza options if you want something smaller but we did two full size for four people and had some leftover. Arugula fennel salad was a nice light appetizer. The indoor restaurant is small but adorable. I have been going to della barba since covid when they only had the ghost kitchen and eating on site at the restaurant the pizza is even better and more fresh. Horrible service. Rude, unprofessional, and belligerent service. Avoid this place at all costs, unless you want to get ignored, insulted and generally abused by the young woman working behind the counter. I had the worst service in the worst treatment of my nearly 50 years of eating out. It's kind of a shame I will never return because the pizza is actually pretty good if pricey. The salad is on the other hand are a pedestrian joke, and very overpriced. The Caesar salad is literally just plain lettuce some shaved cheese in some very boring croutons, for 13 bucks. Total rip off. If you need to eat at this place, just stick to the pizzas. And just know that the pick up time is very flexible. Also, if they make a mistake, they will be sure to take it out on you in rudeness and unprofessionalism. Awesome!! Really wanted deep dish pizza this evening and I can certainly say we got what we paid for. Price is a little steep if your points of reference are chain pizzeria's. We had the Nonna and a mini deep dish. Glad we tried the Nonna, it was spectacular! The deep dish was better than any I've had in Chicago!! No kidding! The crust, sauce, cheese and other ingredients are of the highest quality, which is more important than a massive quantity. The ambiance is cozy and inviting. Service was attentive from the owner and staff. Look forward to coming back (try all the pizza's) and bringing others who will appreciate great pizza. I gave the owner one word when departing... - long story short - this may be the best pizza we ever had - After spending a day at the arboretum, my wife and I stopped here for lunch and we're pretty much blown away by the pie. We had a Chicago and a Detroit and they were absolutely delicious. The sauce was fresh, the crust was perfectly caramelized on the Detroit and the Chicago had a incredibly flavorful crispy crust I haven't had since Burt's. And I soooo appreciated the freshly made sausage on my Chicago. I wish I took better pictures to do it justice. Service was great, and the guy knew everything about the different pizza. Reasonably priced. The customer service I received this afternoon was terrible. I've received better service from Manny and Olga's on U Street at 3 am than this restaurant. My boyfriend and I ordered a kale Cesar salad that was supposed to come with a Cesar dressing. We received a plate of dry kale without any dressing. After letting one of the workers know, she preceded to hand me a side of thick Cesar dressing. Unless I was ordering takeout, or specifically requested dressing on the side I have never experienced this at any other restaurant. When I returned to my table with the side of thick dressing, it became apparent that trying to add the dressing to the salad ourselves would cause a mess. My boyfriend brought the plate to the workers and asked them if we're were supposed to mix the salad ourselves, and the worker had the worst attitude and was loudly yelling as she returned to the kitchen to find a bowl. Needless to say after that "show", the salad was not mixed. Although the service was poor, I left a tip because I was raised better than that and not all of the workers had this poor attitude. But save yourself a trip and don't eat here. read more

I placed a large delivery order for 6 pizzas, but only 5 were delivered, and one of those was incorrect. I called them and opted for a refund for the missing pizza so I wouldn't have to wait another hour for correct delivery, and the person who answered was beyond rude about it. Days later I had not received the refund. I called and left multiple messages with no response. I finally got someone on the phone who said he would "look into" the refund but refused any compensation for the incorrect pizza. This is an abominable way to run a business and treat customers. Please consider giving your business to literally any other establishment. No pizza is worth this. read more
