Their 150 flavors are beautiful, but it didn't taste or feel like authentic or artisanal gelato, but more like mainstream American ice cream. The staff is unfriendly and cold but attentive. You have to pay before you order, and they reluctantly give you one sample if you ask. I think that with such a variety of flavors, they should give you a few, at the very least, if they're going to require you to pay before you order. Anyway, I felt rushed when deciding, so I went with my usual and got two flavors in their cone: espresso and dark chocolate with nuts. Not bad for $2.50. Very rich. A tour guide directed us to this place after a walking tour of ancient Rome sites. It was a nice way to finish off a half-day of history and also provided a pre-dinner snack for me and my 16 year old daughter. There are over 150 flavors including about 12 varieties of chocolate gelato (...ice cream for us Americans). The portions are consistently "European small" compared to ice cream shops in the U.S. but allow for tasting a variety of really good flavors. When we were there, the system was to pre-pay for the serving size and number of cups or cones and then take the receipt to the counter to select flavors. There was an excellent selection of both cream-based and fruit-based (sort of like sorbet but better) choices. I think I could live on Gelato. Work BFF had heard about this place, so we went in search of it. It is near the Pantheon, so you can have your gelato, find a place to sit, and stare at this beautiful building. The problem is that everyone has heard of this place and trying to get in the door, trying to see the display, trying to pay... all very difficult. You do have to pay at the register first, then you take the receipt and go up to the counter, they take the receipt and ask you what flavours you want. I have to say, compared to some of the places I had gelato from, this place has all the choices you could want, the gelato is very creamy, and it isn't super expensive. I have had: Pistachio, Coffee Crunch, Raspberry, Passion Fruit, Sacher Torte, some other version of Pistachio (with chocolate and possibly candied pistachios), Chocolate, Duplo, and Coffee. All of them were good... the Sacher Torte tasted a bit boozy and the Coffee was a little bit on the icy side rather than creamy, but it they were still good. They have sorbet, they also have some kind of mousse (but it costs extra), they have soy gelato, and they have other desserts if gelato isn't your thing... which is just ridiculous and that is coming from a lactard. There is even a part of the freezer that looks like it is just chocolate based gelatos... AMAZING! This is the best gelato I've had in my life. Granted my sample size is small, around 15 places. Pistachio 4 champagne 3 rum baba 4.5 and nocciola (the best). 5 ABSOLUTELY Delicious. This is my favorite gelato spot in Rome thus far. Was recommended to go here by a friend and glad we did!! I love trying the fruity flavors and usually this affects how I rate gelato places. I have to say that Gelateria Della Palma has their mango, strawberry and mixed berries flavors down and done just right. I tried these same flavors at Giolitti and was not as impressed. The quality of the gelato and not to say quantity they give you all add onto how amazing this place was. We came back twice during our 3 day stay in rome. This place is pretty close to the Pantheon and can easily blend in among a wealth of other gelato shops but it is definitely one you should not overlook! read more

Well I have only been to Rome once, and it was only for about 2 and a half weeks. Also, this was July 2007, so my review is coming from that time.. But it was so delicious, I won't forget. The place was so big, packed, and colorful from the various gelato flavors as well as the candy selections, it sticks to my memory like glue. :) That being said, I haven't tried MANY gelato places. But out of all of the gelaterias I did visit, this was my favorite. I had to make a few trips into this place during my stay. SO many choices! I LOVED the Fragola (strawberry) flavor. I know, I know. Such a simple selection when there are SO many unique flavors.. But even with something as simple as fragola, it was phenomenal. I enjoyed every flavor I tried throughout all of my visits since I was getting three flavors per cup per visit. I also enjoyed the kit kat flavor quite a bit. Visitors should definitely pick out their flavors before being waited on since this place does get packed and there are just too many flavors. Very close to the Pantheon and was within walking distance of where I was staying (across from the Circus Maximus). The atmosphere around the gelateria is very lively and fun to just watch people. Different types of performers or costumed people. We had a clown start following my group on our walk away from the gelateria, so it made for some good entertainment while I enjoyed my treat. :) If I ever make it to Rome again, I will definitely be repaying this place a visit! read more

We went for our second round of gelato feast of the day after looking around Pantheon. Of all the gelato experience we had in Rome (and we've had A LOT of gelatos since coming here), I'd say this place ranks as the top. First, the variety of flavours is mind blowing. For example, if you want a chocolate flavoured gelato, you'd have about half a dozen different types of chocolate flavours to choose from. Second, the quality is top notch. For some of the fruity flavours, I felt like I was literally having a crushed version of those fruits instead of processed gelatos. Finally, value for money is good. The two of us had the biggest cup (six flavours), which cost 10 euros. The portions were healthy, and the seating area was perfect for a quick sit-down as well. They also have a small candy section and very cute desserts for sale. The shop can get very crowded, so it can be difficult to walk around and get a good look at all the flavors you want to try, but make sure you go up the steps on the right of the shop to the cashier to pay first, get the receipt, and then get your gelato. read more

This gelateria is a fun visit due to the 150 flavors, obviously. Quality wise I would say it is pretty standard for Gelato. It tastes fresh and is on par with many other gelateria's in the area. The 150 flavors is what make it great, you will find truly unique and fun flavors that are by no means traditional but still delicious. The line to get our gelato was pretty quick, it was just very crowded. There is not much seating and everyone is standing on top of each other. It was on a hot summer night, so it was understandable. Della Palma really caters to everyone - no matter your taste preference or diet restriction: gelato mouse, gelato yogurt, soy gelato (didn't even know that existed). The flavor options are vast too: pistachio, fig, vanilla, chocolate ... the list goes on and on. Be prepared to feel overwhelmed by the many options. I don't think it is normal to try the flavors before buying here in Roma, but the guy behind the counter was nice enough to let me sample a few flavors before I chose their Pistachio de B-something word here. It was quite lovely and I highly recommend it. Their nacciola and peanut butter was awesome too. The peanut butter flavor offered little bites of crunch for added texture. Although they are the kind of gelato in Rome (at least, IMO), they weren't overly priced at all. I paid a little under 3 Euros for my medium-sized gelato and they didn't have any issues with giving me multiple flavors. 150 flavors - the vast majority of them a joy to behold and my willingness to taste them all was all but possible. But I wanted to. And I still do. The ice cream in this place is about as good as it gets. I've tried just about half of the flavors available and my disapointment over one of the flavors is still pending. I tried Della Palma based on a friend's recommendation and it is definitely worth the hype. Dozens and dozens of gelato flavors, as well as mousse, yogurt, and dairy-free. It took me a while to decide. I got the chocolate hazelnut and fig. Both were outstanding! Tip #1: Pay first, then bring the receipt to the gelato counter! Tip #2: A "small" is really two huge scoops, so make sure you're hungry. Tip #3: The gelato counter area can get crowded, so head upstairs past the bars and eat at a table. read more

Not all gelato tastes the same. I believe with them having lots of flavors, it takes away from the quality. There gelato taste hard like regular ice cream. Very disappointed! The only plus is the quantity- you get 3 scoops on the cone for 4 euros. If you are looking for true Italian gelato, stay away from here. It's a tourist trap. read more

I opted for a medium, which I think would normally be a small at most places. With a medium you're allowed up to three flavors. I got 1) Mozart 2) Panna Cota and 3) Hazelnut. With the hazelnut, I asked the server the best one. The hazelnut was actually amazing and I'm not a huge fan of hazelnut.
