Great butcher, so glad they opened up in my work hood! I went during lunch and there were no other customers there so it was nice to be able to take my time and ask questions. I picked up some chicken thighs which were cleaned beautifully and packaged nicely. I also picked up a Kurabuta Pork Chop which looked amazing. I had never cooked this type of pork chop before and the butcher was nice enough to give me exact cooking times and write them down for me. I followed his advice and it came out perfect! So. These guys are the very best. I have bought three different cuts of steak, whole chickens, and lamb, all of it was consistently amazing. This place is not cheap. That being said, I feel like it is worth it because a). they really take the time to help you learn how to cook what you are buying so that you get the best experience out of your purchase and b). you know you are getting intelligently sourced, high quality meats. I can't say enough about the service here. I missed my old butchers (Holland Court Meat Market) in Carnagie Hill whom I adored. I have found that some of the other butchers in the Cobble Hill neighborhood sometimes didn't seem to care much about the customer. These guys, however, go out of there way to provide great service. I purchased two, large, dry-aged prime ribeye steaks from Dellapietras over the wekend, and I've never heard more compliments for a steak. I did a reverse sear, first bringing the steaks up to 120 degrees and then searing them, and letting them rest. This was among the best steaks I've ever had, full of richness and the blue-cheese-like taste of a great dry-aged steak. I've had steaks from Flannery's and other great high-end butchers, and Dellapietras is fully world-class. read more

This is hands down the best butcher in Brooklyn. Their dry aged bone in sirloin is better than any steakhouse steak you'll find in the city. I've tried most of their different cuts and they really know how to dry age meat. If you're willing to spend the money, you truly can't find better meat than this. Premier dry-aged steaks and excellent service. I stopped in for a treat for New Year's Eve. The gentleman hooked me up with a recommendation on a nice, aged rib steak. I tried to buy two, but was advised I only needed one for just two adults, which was nice. He politely offered explicit, yet easy, cooking instructions that resulted in a great, crusty steak, perfectly medium rare on the inside. The butcher said it would be the best steak I ever had and I offered to Yelp if it was. Well, here I am. Definitely in the top 5, and I've been to Peter Luger's, Wolfgang's, Sparks, etc. Considering the cost of deliverory a night at restaurant, the price for these steaks is not that bad for the absolute luxurious results. We've also sampled their cooked chickens, hanger steaks, and Italian sausages--all were excellent. Once again, the staff is very friendly and helpful. And this is a kind of lame, stereotypical Cobble Hill-esque comment, but: the place is really easy to get a stroller in and out of. I tend to buy steaks on impulse when I'm walking the kids and we have no dinner plans. read more

I thought this place looked good. Ordered a pound of lean ground beef. Butcher goes into the walk in fridge and in 10 seconds walks out with the beef in his bare hand. I asked him why he came out with his bare hand with the beef on it and he said that he washes his hands a lot of times during the day. The owner I guess he was the owner said I would could cancel the order and I said OK. The guy puts the glove on and then opens the refrigerated space with the hand with the Cleven it. I said to the owner I'm not gonna except that. Theater then said what we cancel the order. I said OK. And I I said this is really messed up and walked out. We are lucky enough to live within walking distance of Dellapietras. Since moving to the neighborhood a year and half ago, this place has become our go-to butcher, and the source of many of our our home-prepared meals. The cuts of beef are rich and marbled, the lamb is succulent, and the chicken is farm fresh. We haven't yet sampled the pork, veal, or rabbit (special order), but I'm looking forward to the opportunity. The stocks, sausages, and sandwich counter offerings (pro-tip: try the champagne glazed korobuta smoked ham or fresh roasted turkey) all make delicious add-ons to our weekly visits. While perhaps not best-suited for cost-conscious shoppers, the higher price point is well-earned with top-notch quality, friendly and accommodating service, and a passion for their product that is rare to find these days. If you're looking to keep the budget balanced, I highly recommend trying the skirt or hanger cuts (or coulotte if they have it), which I've found far exceed the flavor of more expensive cuts from other vendors. read more

On a beautiful morning I decided that it was time again -after 40 years of absence - to walk into a butcher store. Dellapietras on Atlantic seemed attractive enough to seduce a not necessarily enthusiastic meat lover. I ordered four veal slices for Schnitzel. The sour faced guy behind the counter started to slice the beautiful meat. Knowing how expensive this little meal would be I got slowly aggravated by his ponem (look that up!). I therefore asked him if my order annoyed him. The answer was that that was just his face. I am sure the meat will be delicious, but the experience in the store however was not. mainly a butcher but they also have fresh pasta, olive oil and a few other things. they're a gourmet shop just a few steps from key foods, so if you plan to do all your shopping in 1 block, you can hit them up before going to the green grocer and key foods. this is paesanos country, and when they first opened i thought "for sure they wont last". however, they've done well--there just aren't a lot of good places to get meat. the butchers are friendly and knowledgeable, and the quality is outstanding. so why only 3 stars? the price is insane. it is INSANE. they charge almost twice as much as paesanos, a well established local butcher, and i really have trouble believing that its because the meat quality is twice as good. maybe my palate is just not sophisticated enough but i cant tell the difference. for example, i bought a rack of lamb rib chops (8 chops) from paesanos for 28 bucks, and the same rack is 45 from dp's. their olive oils and pastas are also incredibly expensive. the problem is, when you end up paying 40 bucks for meat, and then you get groceries and wine, the preparation for 1 meal runs you like, 70 bucks. why not just go to a restaurant and have somebody make it for you? can anybody explain to me just why they are SO damn expensive? read more

All of their cuts of dry aged beef are out of this world, especially the rib steak, not to mention their prepared foods (the honeyglazed ham, fried chicken, and mashed potatoes are all drool-worthy). And the customer service is unparalleled, Rob and Jose are some of the nicest and knowledgable butchers you will ever meet, the kinds of guys who will remember your birthday and handwrite instructions on how to perfectly cook your steak in marker right on the butcher paper, a nice touch. Oh, and did I mention the store? Beautiful and super clean, instead of the unfortunately familiar funk of most Brooklyn butchershops the smell is fresh and, when they open the dry aged room door, enough to make your heart skip a beat or two. Sure the prices are higher than your average butcher, but as other reviews have said, so is their expertise and quality of product. I was looking for a brisket to roast for a holiday party. They were all out, but recommended a "French roast" cut, boasting that it would be a suitable if not even better cut.They extracted that cut from a much bigger piece of the cow.
