Nice little tucked away BBQ spot in San Diego. It's large and open and has lots of TVs for sports viewing. They also have happy hour during football Sunday. Got a giant mug of their house ale for like 2$. The BBQ meats in their combos were not standout just solid bbq. But their 24 hours wings were delicious. Being from Texas, my wife and I are very picky when it comes to barbecue. We've tried a lot of BBQ spots in California, and most just don't get it right. But Del's Hideout really surprised us in the best way. The vibe is more modern than traditional southern spots, but it still feels like a true "hideout." It's relaxed, clean, and inviting. We sat outside, which worked out perfectly because they have a kids' play area right next to the patio. As parents with a toddler, that little touch made a huge difference. It let us actually enjoy our food without the usual chaos. We shared a barbecue platter and everything was genuinely delicious. The meat was cooked right, flavorful, and juicy. The sides held up just as well. You can tell they care about the food here, which is rare for a lot of places trying to serve barbecue outside of the south. The staff was great too. Both had great "other" flavors but maintained the tried and true character and flavor of the classic. Because we weren't that hungry we decided to order 1 plate to share of their brisket w/ sides of collared greens and potato salad. The brisket was tender and had very nice flavor and seasoning. The collared greens had decent amount of tanginess and tenderness that I like. The potato salad just fit with the brisket. I really enjoyed the potato salad. We ordered the 2 meat combo to share which consisted of hot links and brisket with sides of potato salad and Mac and cheese with a cornbread muffin. The beef brisket was moist and flavorful, hot links were good although a bit too salty for me. The potato salad was a tad on the plainer side, needed a little extra spices added. I think it's mostly a drinking hole for the surrounding apartment complexes. I got the 2 meat combo with brisket and baby back ribs, fries, green beans and corn bread. The brisket was tender, by no means dry but I wish a little more moist, over all very good. The ribs were very small but moist and tender. Both were very good with the tasty bbq sauce. The fries were very crispy and a large portion. The green beans were nicely cooked they were freshly cooked whole green beans which had a good texture, not the mushy canned type. Service was excellent, you order at the counter then they bring the food to your table. There is also a QR code on the table which you can scan and order thru. I love the BBQ here, but today. Wow, I was very embarrassed, already an old, and ugly gal that I am, and eating alone. So, I also forget my sell phone to entertain myself while waiting, so, yes, awkward, and all my fault. I think he maybe was trying to show me, how annoyed I was by moving to a larger table. By giving me a SIPPY CUP, LIKE my children had when they were small. I asked for it to be in a grown up glass. I said, no one else is using a child's sippy cup! Check. Anyways, by the time my food came, I asked for my silverware, because it was hiding behind the center items. We were able to make it to the last day of restaurant week to try this place and it did not disappoint. Location is definitely unexpected. It's around a quiet road right off the freeway, easy to get to. We went on a Sunday around 4:00pm and parking was easy. Walking in, it wasn't busy at all and our party of 5 was able to be seated right away. Our server and the food runners were friendly & efficient. We ordered off the restaurant week menu and got an appetizer, main course and dessert for only $25! And for a few more dollars, you can get a bbq plate upgrade. Our food came in a timely manner. We had the onion rings, brisket chili and BBQ loaded fries to start, then for the main course, the TJ burger with fries, BBQ sandwich & BBQ plate. This place was amazing! First of all, I love that they cater to kids and has an area for them to play. That is so rare for restaurants to have and that just gave me the 5 stars off the bat. We did the two meat platter with brisket and ribs. Our sides were baked beans and fires with corn bread. I really enjoyed the brisket, although it was on the fatty side. The ribs were also bomb with the bbq sauce they have. The corn bread was a little dry and I wish I got the Texas toast again. Not bad for the pricing and especially letting my little one play while we enjoy our dinner! Another downside was the parking. This place barely has parking even if inside isn't all that packed.
